In this episode of Attack on Opinion we will discuss our favorite and least favorite ships in Attack on Titan.

Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series set in a world where humanity is forced to live in cities surrounded by three enormous walls that protect them from gigantic man-eating humanoids called Titans. The story follows Eren Yeager, who vows to exterminate the Titans after they bring about the destruction of his hometown and the death of his mother.

Amy:

My favorites are Sasha and Nicollo and Historia and Ymir
I don’t really like Eren and Mikasa
Eren should treat her better
She’s so in love with him even though he is so mean
Jean and Mikasa is sad because Jean is in love with her but she loves Eren
Jean is a second choice for her after Eren dies but Mikasa has always been his #1 choice
Jean and Marco were cute together
Sad that Marco died and Jean lost his best friend
Sasha and Nicollo is very wholesome
He loves to cook, she loves to eat
Lots of very clear chemistry
Sad that Sasha died
Liked how Nicollo attacked Gabi to try to avenge Sasha’s death
Historia and Ymir is a good ship, they loved each other a lot, had a lot of chemistry, sad that Ymir died
Gabi is annoying and doesn’t deserve Falco
Levi and Erwin idk about, they have their moments
Annie and Armin are okay, I didn’t see much chemistry at first but there was more later
I don’t like Eren and Armin I think they are just bffs

Segment 3: Audience Opinions

People either really like Eren and Mikasa or really don’t
Most people like Ymir and Historia and Sasha and Nicollo
Levi and Erwin is a popular one as well
Levi and Hange coming right after this one, but most people seem them as platonic
Annie and Armin for some people seemed evident and for others not at all
But it’s very clear they hold feelings for each other
The point of argument would be when Armin developed feelings for Annie, people aren’t sure if it’s because he inherited Bertolt’s feelings or if it was developed before

Episode 6: Why are Eren and Zeke so Different?

You are listening to Attack On Opinion with your hosts Jenny and Amy.

In this episode of Attack on Opinion we discuss: Eren and Zeke’s relationship and why they are so different even though they are brothers.

Segment 1: Context of the Anime

Eren and Zeke are brothers
They grew up separately in different environments: Zeke was treated very badly, Eren received love
Zeke’s parents are Grisha Yeager and Dina Fritz, who is a royal
Eren’s parents are Grisha and Carla Yeager
They both have titan powers, Zeke is the beast titan and Eren is the founding and attack titan
Grisha injected Eren with titan serum
They have different plans for humanity: Eren wants to kill everyone except for the Eldians and Zeke wants to make it so the Eldians can’t reproduce so there will be no more titans
Zeke wanted Eren to follow his plan and Eren tricked him into thinking that he would but ends up betraying him

Segment 2: Audience Opinions

Eren did the right thing in betraying Zeke
“Sorry, brother. I was just playing along…so I could get here.”
Zeke just wanted to live the rest of his life in harmony, Eren’s betrayal wasn’t worth it
“Hey Eren… we're the only ones…who understand, right?”

Segment 3: Our opinions

We do not agree with Eren’s plan we think it is genocide
Eren literally orchestrated Grisha’s trauma, which in turn, orchestrated Zeke’s trauma
Wants to kill everyone except his friends
Wants to have kids with Mikasa so doesn’t want to be sterilized
Eren is being petty; he wants the non eldians to die because some of them are racist to Eldians which is not cool but that doesn’t mean all of them should be killed
Eren was a spoiled child while growing up
Zeke had no real love, he was used as a tool
Found out that Eren grew up loved but never held it against him, instead he wanted to have a good brotherly relationship with him
Eren took advantage of that to trick Zeke
Wants to eliminate titans for the good of humanity, even though it would cost him and other Eldians to be sterilized
Although both options are not ideal I think sterilizing the Eldians to eliminate the titans is a better option than killing everyone except for the Eldians

Should Ymir have left with Reiner and Bertholdt?

Episode #5

You are listening to Attack On Opinion with your hosts Jenny and Amy.

In this episode of Attack on Opinion we discuss: Ymir’s relationship with Historia, Reiner, and Bertholdt, and whether or not it was the right decision for her to leave the scouts.

Segment 1: Context of the Anime

Ymir is technically around 100 hundred years old because she was turned into a titan by Marleyan soldiers after the empire of Eldyia lost its power. This was because she represented (they believed she was the reincarnation) of Ymir, the founder of the titans. Therefore, some Eldyians worshiped her to seek out peace. Little did they know, she was simply an orphan that was used to gather money from the people that prayed to her. When the Public Security Authorities found out about this cult, the man who named Ymir placed all the blame on Ymir. Ymir didn’t fight back because she felt as if she did share responsibility for deceiving the people who worshiped her, so she, along many other members, were stoned and turned into pure titans.

Ymir has the Jaw Titan power, which was from eating one of Reiner’s friends who possessed a titan power.
Ymir and Historia fell in love with each other
Reiner has a crush on Historia
Ymir feels guilty about keeping her powers secret and for eating Porco’s brother, aka Reiner’s friend. She also felt indebted to them because their arrival to Eldyia technically saved her life.
They kill Ymir

Segment 2: Audience Opinions

Many people deny the clear intimate relationship between Ymir and Historia because they deny the Lesbian representation, which may influence their opinion on how important it was for Ymir to be sent away.

Some people even debate that Historia is straight, which is clearly wrong. But others say that she’s bisexual, which could have some essence to it but she’s only shown interest in Ymir in the show.
She does get pregnant but many people say it’s because she had the responsibility to do so, not out of her own will.
Majority of people believe it was the right decision to leave and that there’d be no story without this

We liked Ymir and Historia's relationship

It was essential to have Reiner and Bertholdt return but we wish there was another way
Wish she didn’t die
Was a great way to wrap up her end

Episode 4: Which Titan is Best?

You are listening to Attack on Opinion with your hosts Jenny and Amy.

In this episode, we will discuss which titan is the best.

Segment 1: Context of the Anime

There are the regular titans who have huge deformed man-eating bodies. They all share some common characteristics. They don’t react to pain, they move as long as there is sunlight, don’t have a functioning digestive tract- they throw up after they’re “full” to continue eating humans. They also were mindless beasts, easy to trick because they had no intelligence.
Titans used to be humans, meaning that if the titan dies, they die. This was not a known fact.
There were also abnormalities that has some intelligence. Such as the titan in Illse’s notebook that thought she was lady Ymir and began to pray to her. Also, Connie’s mother recognized him and greeted him when he came home.
There are nine major titans, each possessing a different power. These titans are conscious because they have a human who is able to operate them- or really, a human that is piloting them. This is different from a regular titan because they can abandon the body they’re operating.

About each titan:

Founding titan: Belongs to Eren Yeager, giant, by screaming, could turn Subjects of Ymir into Titans, control the minds of Titans, and alter the memories and bodies of Subjects of Ymir. It was connected to all Subjects of Ymir and Titans via paths.
Armored titan: Belongs to Reiner, covered by hardened armor-like skin, can harden armor for protection, really hard to kill (Reiner just won’t die)
Colossal titan: Belonged to Bertholdt but now belongs to Armin because he ate him. The biggest titan, emits burning hot steam and blasts.
Female titan: Belongs to Annie, good at fighting and running, could summon pure titans by screaming and could harden skin for protection as well
Attack titan: Belongs to Eren Yeager, can receive memories from past and all future inheritors of titans.
Cart titan: Belongs to Pieck, good stamina, fugly, runs on four legs, fast, transports materials, kidnaps people
Beast titan: Belongs to Zeke Yeager, furry, very long arms, can scream to summon titans and order them, can throw rocks, can talk
Jaw titan: Belonged to Porco, now belongs to Falco. Sharp claws and teeth that can break almost anything, fastest titan
War hammer titan: could materialize various weapons and structures from its own hardened flesh. It could be controlled from afar through a cable of Titan flesh while the user remained hidden within a hardened crystal casing. Eren beat it very quickly by finding and killing the host body.

Lots of people think the Warhammer titan is OP but was killed so quickly
Cart titan is ugly
Fan favs: Armoured, Attack, Colossal, Female, Beast

Segment 3: Our Opinions

Amy’s ranking

Founding: OP, OG, can control the minds of other titans, can even control non-titan Elydians. At one point King Fritz changed the molecular structure of his subjects to stop them from dying from the disease. But, the founding titan doesn’t have any fighting powers.
War hammer: OP powers, got killed too fast, can make weapons from its own flesh AND be controlled remotely
Armoured: So much protection from the armour, can break through walls. No one can kill Reiner no matter how hard they try
Colossal: Steam blasts are very destructive, can break through walls
Attack: Holds memories of all titans. But other than that, not many powers
Beast: Can control other titans, but that is only because Zeke has royal blood, not because of the titan’s trait. Can talk and throw rocks with its very long arms, but that’s not thaaat cool.
Female: Good at fighting, but that is only because Annie is good at fighting and she controls the titan. It’s not the titan’s power. Can attract other titans.
Jaw: Fast and can bite through stuff, but that’s it. Not much fighting ability.
Cart: Fast, can carry stuff, not much fighting ability, also ugly!

Segment 2: Who should’ve gotten revived? Audience opinions

Armin and Erwin were both on the brink of death, only one of them could’ve been revived
Levi wanted to rescue Erwin
Eren and Mikasa wanted to rescue Armin
Some people wanted Erwin to be saved, because he was the commander and formulated a lot of the plans for the troops. He had future ideas, like to get to the basement to find info ab the titans, and many thought he would guide the troops well. Some thought Armin was not as wise and was too weak.
Others wanted Armin to be saved, because he is a very likeable character. He is smart too, and made plans as well. People believed that Armin would be able to come up with future plans that could save humanity. Erwin also wanted Armin to be saved.

We think Armin should have been saved
He is very smart and good at coming up with ideas
He plays a vital role in the future of the series
Erwin wanted Armin to be saved

In this episode, we will discuss whether or not it was necessary for Marco to die.

To give some professional background, I will be reciting a short summary about this anime from wikipedia.

Attack on Titan (Japanese: 進撃の巨人, Shingeki no Kyojin) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. It is set in a world where humanity is forced to live in cities surrounded by three enormous walls that protect them from gigantic man-eating humanoids referred to as Titans; the story follows Eren Yeager, who vows to exterminate the Titans after they bring about the destruction of his hometown and the death of his mother.

At first, Marco’s death was just something people grieved over, people didn’t think it would lead them to one of the biggest plot twists in the show
People wish his friendship with Jean could’ve lasted longer, some feel as if it should’ve developed into something romantic…
People believe that Marco also had just an exceptionally terrible death
Were Reiner, Annie and Bertholdt justified?
How this affected Reiner’s growth as a character
What was revealed to the audience

Segment 3: Our Opinions

Finally, for the part that is the most interesting for us, we’re going to give our takes on his death.

Was necessary for the plot, could’ve lived without the pain
Death was definitely out of pocket
Him being cut in half symbolizing Reiner’s split personality?
We loved Marco for being so kind
Being kind is hard in this setting
