In the latest episode of Behind the Curtain at ROFL Comedy Club hosts Cokey and Franki Falkow chat to Jeff Innocent and Wouter Meijs.

The one and only Jeff Innocent is visiting the wonderland that is Stoke for the first time and tells us an amazing story of his first comedy gig at the age of 41.

Wouter Meijs, a keen cyclist, fills us in on his passion for cycling and how soon you'll be able to see him in lycra on stage.

About Jeff:

Jeff Innocent is a popular and experienced stand up comedian, actor, writer and cultural commentator. As a stand up comedian he has reached near legendary status among his peers and audience alike by staying at the top of his game for over 15 years. He was voted Best Live Club Comedian 2016 AT the UK Comedy Awards and was Runner Up for 2013, 2014 and 2015, won Best In Fest at the Norwich Comedy Festival 2014 and was nominated in the 2015 Chortle Awards Best Live Club Act category. His unique appeal lies in the contrast between his East End ‘Geezer’ appearance and demeanour, and his educated, philosophical delivery and subject matter. Inspiring the guardian to describe him as a comedian with, ‘The body of a nightclub bouncer and the brains of a university boffin’.

About Wouter

Dutch comedian Wouter Meijs arrived in the UK in 2005 after a successful career in the Netherlands and has been very well-received – a huge achievement considering he is performing in his second language! – he now performs across the UK but and also been seen performing with his Dutch colleagues at the Edinburgh Festival 2007&2008 with the Amsterdam Underground Comedy Collective. In Holland he was a regular at Toomler, Boom Chicago and Comedycafé and openingact for weekly jazzshow ‘Hans Teeuwen Zingt’ in nightclub Panama, Amsterdam. He was the Runner-up for Lastminute comedian of the year 2011 and Worldseries Manchester 2011 but the winner for Dirty Dozen Yeovil 2012.

The World's One Liner Championships at ROFL Comedy Club

It was a Winner takes all! 12 comics, maximum of 10 mins minimum of 5, as many one liners as they could throw out.

Sam Gore

Sam Gore is a British stand-up comedian who started gigging in 2007. By 2009 he had cemented his position as one of the best new comedians of his generation with five New Act of the Year awards, including the national Laughing Horse competition. Over the following years he has proven himself as a comic and MC who can keep the laughs rolling anywhere from weekend clubs to music festivals, biker rallies and theatres.

With his rapid-fire delivery and unique use of language and imagery, nobody writes a simile quite like Gore. His skills as a writer have landed him work with some of the UK’s top television acts, seeing him write for performances on Mock the Week and Comedy Central’s Roast Battles.

Milo McCabe is a character comedian with over ten years experience on the circuit. He has twice been nominated for the Amused Moose Best Edinburgh show award and was listed as GQ's Top Ten comedy shows of the festival. TV credits include ITV'S Benidorm, BBC3's Live at the Electric and various hidden camera and talking heads projects on Channel 4 and 5. As himself, he is shortly to appear in US documentary 'Everyone has an Andy Dick story'. As Troy Hawke he is currently touring comedy clubs and festivals in preparation for his 2019 show

Troy Hawke is an erudite homeschooled 1930's throwback...the Errol Flynn of the high street. Educated, sophisticated, but utterly clueless. He tackles modern issues head on in his uniquely untimely manner.

Daliso began his comedy career in Canada with the acclaimed one man show ‘Feed This Black Man’. Following this, he began honing his craft in comedy clubs across the country. He regularly appears in comedy clubs and theatres across the around the world. He has been part of the Melbourne, Edinburgh, Singapore, Cape Town, and Montreal Festivals.

In addition to stand up comedy, Daliso is also a prolific fiction writer. He has published science fiction, murder mysteries and fantasy fiction in numerous magazines and anthologies. Recently, a play he co-wrote aired on BBC Radio 4.

Multi-award winning comedian Tom Taylor has received high praise from audiences and critics alike.

In 2013 Tom reached the final of the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny? competition, the following year he was a finalist in the Hobgoblin Comedy Award and in 2015 he took home the award for Comedian of the Year at the inaugural Great Yorkshire Fringe. Most recently he picked up the Audience Favourite Award at the Musical Comedy Awards 2017 and reached the final of English Comedian of the Year 2018.

Jon Pearson

Jon began standup comedy in 2010, with his first performance at Birmingham's Highlight Comedy Club.

Two successful Edinburgh shows later, and 5 years working the UK comedy circuit, Jon is now regularly found at the biggest and best comedy clubs across the UK including The Glee Club, The Comedy Store and Jongleurs, both as an act and a compere. His 2015 Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival show, Jon Pearson: Tall Order, sold out at Melton Theatre within 2 weeks of the tickets going on sale.

Ashley has been entertaining audiences up and down the UK for nearly 17 years, and many many 1000's of motorway miles.

In this episode hosts Cokey and Franki Falkow talk to Tom Little about how dolphins and wolves are related and lucky underpants.

Tom Little is an award-winning comedian. He once won the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year, an award previously won by acts including Johnny Vegas, Rhod Gilbert and Jason Manford, and never stopped going on about it. His last Edinburgh show was nominated for the Amused Moose Comedy Award 2018 and he was also a BBC Radio New Comedy Award finalist. He never shuts up about that either.

Cokey and Franki also chat to comic legend and Filmmaker Dave Fulton about Aunt Jemima and Jack Daniels as well as racism, motorcycles and literature.

Dave started making a living doing stand-up comedy stateside back when there was only clubs and Letterman. He certainly never envisioned it would lead to living in London England and to have done shows in 25 different countries. When nothing else is going on he’s building motorcycles, climbing frozen waterfalls and looking after his adopted son.

Rob Coleman recently returned from an epic voyage and he touches on his rowing trip across the ocean as well as near death experiences, comedy and dealing with people in close quarters.

Away from comedy Rob is a writer, cyclist, ocean rower and fitness fanatic. He's also done a little acting.

Behind a black curtain, in the glorious town of Newcastle Under Lyme, exists arguably the poshest, most luxurious red "green" room of any comedy club in the UK... possibly the world.

A brand new venue for an established club, this is worlds apart from the previous ROFL green room, a cupboard sized box, with a Del Boy paint job, dodgy heating and a permanently leaking tap.

We've upgraded for our 5th anniversary and it was worth it!

To celebrate this, the first episode of Behind the Curtain, co-hosts Cokey and Franki Falkow introduce you to the ROFL Comedy Club Podcast.
