His work with The Cancer Genome Atlas helped reveal that what was once thought to be a single disease was actually several distinct diseases with different underlying biologies, a discovery that continues to influence drug development today. He later led global oncology drug development at Novartis before returning to patient care and research.

In this conversation, we explore the tension between evidence and individual patients, why more data doesn't always make decisions easier, and whether some of the biggest challenges in oncology stem from the disease itself or how we've chosen to study it. We also discuss clinical trial design, patient education, the future role of the oncologist, and why collaboration may be one of the most important drivers of progress.

This episode offers a thoughtful look at some of the hardest questions in modern oncology.

Covered in this episode:

When it's right to follow the guidelines and when it may not be.

Why more data doesn't always lead to clearer decisions.

The gap in patient understanding and education.

Why trying to understand everything about AI could be blocking us from solving bigger problems.

The power of collaboration in solving oncology's toughest problems

If you got value from this episode of Beyond the Chart, subscribe on your favorite podcast platform so you don’t miss the next one.

LEARN MORE

DeepScribe - https://www.deepscribe.ai/

CONNECT

Adam Bass on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/adam-bass-a1402534

Matthew Ko on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/komatthew/

LISTEN

Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6IQlU4UeNKLLM4Y1lPTaOV?si=33679e9eb2294adf

Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/beyond-the-chart-exploring-the-ai-frontier-for-oncology/id1832485207

YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@deepscribeinc.5623

https://www.deepscribe.ai/

<itunes:image href="https://artwork.captivate.fm/bac314e9-e935-47fe-8103-0ee097b9aa99/BTC-022-C.jpg"/>

<itunes:duration>58:38</itunes:duration><itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:episode>22</itunes:episode><podcast:episode>22</podcast:episode>

How Do You Build Technology Oncologists Actually Trust? with Lavi Kwiatkowsky
<itunes:title>How Do You Build Technology Oncologists Actually Trust? with Lavi Kwiatkowsky</itunes:title>

How do you build something oncology practices will actually use and trust?

In this episode, I’m joined by Lavi Kwiatkowsky, Founder and CEO of Canopy, an AI platform built specifically for the care that happens between oncology visits.
