Working primarily with hand-cut vintage print materials such as books and magazines, Jessica explores how meaning shifts when familiar imagery is separated from its original context and recombined into new relationships. Though collage is often associated with spontaneity, her process is tactile and methodical, involving the careful sourcing, cutting, and arranging of printed fragments to create surreal compositions. She is particularly interested in how a single shift in scale or position can alter the reading of an image, inviting close looking and curiosity.

At seventeen, she left home to pursue a dream of becoming a scientist at Dalhousie University, enrolling in Neuroscience with a minor in Philosophy. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 proved to be an unexpected turning point. Choosing to graduate with a degree in Psychology instead allowed her the space to take time off from academics and focus on her mental health. During this period, her connection to the arts deepened significantly.

Even as she returned to the workforce, her creative practice continued to expand and evolve. Already a writer and musician, she gradually took up painting and later began modelling, with the aspiration of one day moving into performance art. As she puts it, that likely means it's time to start connecting with videographers too.

Before stepping fully into his solo work, Nicolae built his reputation as a drummer, performing across Atlantic Canada and beyond. Alongside many other projects, he was a founding member and drummer for Lindsay Misiner & the 7th Mystic, a project that earned two Music Nova Scotia Award nominations and an East Coast Music Award nomination. In November 2025, he performed his first solo showcase at Nova Scotia Music Week, delivering a live-producing set as a singing and rapping solo drummer, building full arrangements in real time using live drums, vocals, and electronics.

Outside of music, Nicolae is also a professional Dungeon Master, running hundreds of paid tabletop role-playing games for players around the world. Storytelling connects everything he does — from world-building at the game table to songwriting and live performance. By nineteen, she began recording and performing with bands. She rebuilt her project, co-founded the independent label Caída Libre, and adopted the name Mueres en el Mar, embracing a sound that merges technology and nature, emotion and instinct. Inspired by artists like Björk and Aurora, she chose to create freely, allowing contradiction, tenderness, rage, and silence to coexist.

Under that name, she released the EP La timidez de los eucaliptus and the album Ikigai (2023), supported by Chile’s Ministry of Culture. After a period in Toronto, she is now based in Nova Scotia, rebuilding her project, writing in English, and performing with renewed clarity. Double A first made his mark as a pioneering drum and bass DJ in Montreal’s underground scene in the early 1990s. Over the next decade, he toured extensively across North America and around the globe—from Cape Town to Tokyo, Los Angeles to Toronto. Alongside longtime DJ partner Twist, he co-founded Dune and Nude Recordings, two influential Montreal-based labels that helped shape the city's electronic music landscape.

With a string of releases and remixes to his name, Double A shifted gears in the early 2000s, stepping away from drum and bass to embrace open-format DJing. On Canada’s East Coast, he became known for producing some of the region’s longest-running monthly events, earning a reputation for his genre-spanning sets and dynamic crowd connection.

After a move to Halifax, Nova Scotia, his work with paper shifted towards music: creating posters, fliers, and cassette booklets as a DJ/organizer and selling handmade mixtapes at local craft and record fairs; and to mail art, keeping ties with friends made through zines or while travelling across North America as a record collector, a hitchhiking banjo player, and an occasional roadie and tour manager.

A growing focus on DJing led to moves to Melbourne, Montreal, and Negril, and to music production and audio engineering. Serena Wu is a multilingual singer-songwriter from Halifax, Nova Scotia, whose pop-driven music blends relatable, emotional lyrics with upbeat percussion and catchy melodies.

Her latest single, Étranger (French for "Stranger"), is available on all streaming platforms, along with an official music video. Produced, recorded, and mixed by award-winning collaborator Daniel Ledwell, the track explores the intrigue and uncertainty of falling for someone while questioning who they truly are. It starts with a staccato ukulele riff and quickly expands into a lively arrangement featuring soulful, funk-infused instrumentation. A playful bassline, shimmering guitar riffs, and a vibrant brass section provide an exciting backdrop for Serena’s dynamic voice and textured harmonies.

Serena performed with Ashley MacIsaac at the 2021 Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo and in Halifax for the 2022 Acadian National Day, where she joined him on his hit Sleepy Maggie. Last November, she was featured among artists presented by Acadian Embassy at Nova Scotia Music Week in Yarmouth, NS. Recently, she’s been working on new original songs, showcased live at venues like the Seahorse Tavern and the Emerge Festival with her band.

Courage has developed a number of skill sets in her career journey, and combined with her diverse experience, she is able to support and champion different causes across Africa - first in her home country, Nigeria and two Eastern African countries - Ethiopia and Kenya. Some of these causes include financial literacy training for women and tech education for children.

A lover of art and entrepreneurship, Courage operates a digital media outfit in Halifax and spends her weekends photographing individuals, and helping professionals and small business owners create memorable brands through photography and storytelling.

Courage holds a master’s degree in International Development from The New School, New York, a Bachelor's degree in Guidance and counselling from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria; and several certificates in finance, Web design, Marketing and Project Management.

In her downtime, Courage enjoys photographing, designing, bead crafting, cooking, reading, volunteering and travelling.

Linda holds a Marketing and International Business Degree, a Diversity and Inclusion Certification from Cornell University and a Diversity and Inclusion Service Management ISO 30415:2021 certification from the University of Georgia. Linda was the first DEI consultant in Canada to be certified to implement ISO 30415:2021 Diversity and Inclusion Framework in organizations. 

Linda has lived and worked in Mexico, Canada and the US. Living in these three different settings has taught her that differences are what make places and organizations thrive and diversity must be celebrated. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. 

Most recently, Linda joined the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the national representative to the ISO (International Organization for Standardization). She has introduced the first DEI Certification in Canada, based on the International Standard ISO 30415, specifically for DEI professionals.

In addition to her crime-related pursuits, Lize is a dedicated philanthropist, always looking for opportunities to bring positive change to others' lives. Together with a friend, she started a fundraiser "Love and Smile SA" aimed at providing toothbrushes and toothpaste to underprivileged children in South Africa, with the goal of "brightening and broadening smiles one by one." To date, they have raised enough funds to supply oral hygiene products to 650 children, creating lasting, positive effects on the health, confidence, and social interactions of these young individuals. Yangsta is a hip-hop artist and radio/podcast personality from Dartmouth Nova Scotia. He is an avid supporter of the local NS hip-hop scene and has been releasing music for over a decade. Yangsta’s musical style is inspired by the likes of Will Smith, 2Pac, Jay-Z, Notorious BIG and other notable figures of old school 90s rap era.

A lyrical perfectionist, Yangsta prefers to write bars on a pen and a pad vs. freestyling songs. The polished and to-the-point song structure in all of his music serves as a testament to his effort towards creating the best music.

Yangsta co-hosted a popular radio show on 88.1fm CKDU called “Pyrate Radio”, a one-hour-long local hip hop show alongside Vadell Gabriel. Over the eight years of the show being active, the duo brought on countless guests from the local music community to showcase their content and talents, including the Blackout Podcast’s host. Scott Ellis is a community-oriented leader from Nova Scotia with extensive experience in advocating for mental health and supporting individuals with eating disorders. He currently serves as the Clinical and Operations Manager at Eating Disorders Nova Scotia. Ellis is a survivor of anorexia nervosa and uses his personal experience to help others in similar situations. Ellis is also an author; his book "Chasing Numbers: Sleep, Starve, Repeat" details his personal journey with an eating disorder.

In addition to his work in mental health, Ellis has been involved in politics, having run for the Progressive Conservative Party in Nova Scotia in 2021. His campaign focused on understanding and addressing the struggles faced by his community, particularly regarding mental health issues.

His delivery is effortless and groovy while providing the listeners with an insight into his life, he describes his music as therapy sessions where he shares his ambitions, fears, hopes and achievements.

Loïc grew up in a musical house, with his grandmother playing a major influence on his musical taste. She had a cultural dance troop that helped him navigate music and dance as one and the same. He started rapping at the age of 13 after three friends dared him to write a rap, and he fell in love with the craft. 15 years later, he is still striving to better himself.

Her musical talent was fostered from a young age as she grew up learning from her grandmother to play piano and watching her father sing in calypso/soca bands in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After high school, Tamara moved to Prince Edward Island to study classical music at UPEI.

A singer for as long as she can remember, Tamara has sung both lead and backing vocals in many bands over the years covering many genres including R&B, Soul, Rock, Reggae, and Salsa Fusion.

Currently, Tamara plays bass and sings backing vocals with the Charlottetown-based Hip-Hop band, The Umbrella Collective.

DJ Hotcue developed a love for DJing in high school when he was a part of an eight-week DJ course called Rhythm that was taught by Gerald Wheatley and Craig Muise. From there, he gained some of his first performance opportunities at high school dances.

He made his official debut at a wedding & later a Family Reunion. In recent years, DJ Hotcue performed at events such as NBA Canada Tours: Campus Pass, All-Star Skills Challenge,  NBA Nation Tour  NSMW 2022 & 2023 and has opened for acts like Ice Cube, DJ Yella of NWA, Fetty Wap, Sean Kingston, Ace Hood, Joyner Lucas & many more.

These last 6 years have been a rollercoaster of challenges and self-discovery.

In January 2024 after years of wandering and trying to find her place, she travelled back home to Moscow, feeling drained and exhausted from life in Halifax. Being away from home for over 3 years took its toll, and she was desperate for peace and healing. That's when her Mom stepped in; first by sending her to a retreat and secondly by believing in her to lead/guide AUM practice in Halifax.

Now, about AUM practice itself.

It's an incredible release. It's like a washing machine for your soul, a beautiful spring cleansing. It's about releasing all the baggage you've been carrying inside, the stuff that's been weighing you down for months, weeks, years. The screaming part? Well, you can be angry, mad, scream, shout, cry, laugh, love, hug, dance like crazy – it's all about being your true self.

AUM practice, while recognized in Europe, remains relatively unknown in Halifax and across Canada. Recognizing its transformative power and the importance of emotional release, Anna felt compelled to introduce the practice in Halifax. She truly believes that if this practice has helped her, it can undoubtedly benefit others as well.

As a versatile cellist, Blanche collaborates with Indigenous artist Jeremy Dutcher, and in recent years her talents have graced over 60 Canadian stages and have been showcased in a Tiny Desk Concert and at the JUNO Awards. Her advocacy efforts span various arts service organizations, demonstrating her commitment to cultural storytelling and representation.

Blanche has presented at esteemed conferences and platforms including Folk Alliance International, Music Nova Scotia, and the PHI Centre's Digital Literacy Incubator. With a polymathic range, a rich background in arts management, an impressive funding track record, and a profound artistic presence, Blanche Israël is poised to lead the East Coast Music Association towards a future characterized by innovation, inclusivity, and unparalleled cultural impact.

She is also a novelist with both published and unpublished manuscripts, including "Fiona Sallami" and "Harder Choices," and has contributed articles to platforms such as Manchester University Peace Studies, UNICEF Voices of Youth, and Sleepless in Monrovia. Hilary MacCormick (she/her) is an obstetric anesthesiologist practising in Kjipuktuk/Halifax. Her academic research focuses on improving perioperative care for LGBTQIA+ communities. She is a volunteer with @CASIEF, which takes her to Rwanda every couple of years to help teach the anaesthesia residents at the University of Rwanda.

Hilary began pole dancing 15 years ago for exercise but quickly fell in love with the community and mental health benefits. She has competed regionally and internationally, winning gold at the Pole Sport Organization Northeast L3 Senior Championship (Boston, 2019) and Halifax Theatrix (2020). In addition to pole dance, she also trains partner acrobatics (Halifax Circus) and lollipop lyra.

Hilary began performing burlesque as Lola Pop in 2021 and is incredibly grateful to the supportive burlesque community for welcoming her with open arms. As a self-titled “collector of hobbies”, she also rides horses and has started learning West Coast swing dance.

Hilary loves marvelling at the capabilities of the human body and creating meaningful connections with people - whether that is through relieving someone’s pain and anxiety during labour, collaborating with colleagues providing care in low resource settings, or cheering someone on when they nail a new skill in pole or circus.

Following a brief and disillusioning attempt at university for Philosophy and Fine Arts, respectively, Veronica moved to Montreal where she completed a diploma in fine cabinetry, which suited her much better. She played drums in punk bands, ate poutine, worked in factories and joined a local zine distro that encouraged her to self-publish and distribute her mini-comics. This encouragement turned a lifelong love for comic books into a passion for creating auto-biographical work in graphic novel form.

She left Montreal for the allure of Eastern Europe, where she created the characters Langosh and Peppi and began working on what would become “Fugitive Days”, published by Conundrum Press and awarded with the Doug Wright “Nipper” award in 2020.

She continues to create work based on these characters and looks forward to creating more work exploring their world, and her own.

With a diverse background that intriguingly blends music and law enforcement, Jasko's journey is anything but ordinary. Before his venture into the business world, he served as a dedicated police officer for a decade, a career that honed his sense of community and service. Tanya is passionate about mindfulness, self-compassion and somatic bodywork as ways toward healing and thriving not just surviving.

Kevin purchased his first duplex in Truro, in November 2022 by using money that he saved while working throughout university. He describes how buying a duplex significantly decreased the cost of living via a tenant renting his other unit. A year later, he purchased his second duplex but this time, with none of his own money. By teaming up with an investor, he is able to continue growing his portfolio while simultaneously creating passive income for his partner.

Mary Beth released her second solo album, “Crossing the Causeway” in November 2022. Since then the album has made several appearances on the Earshot! College Radio Charts in Canada has reached No. 1 on Richard Gilman’s Folk Radio DJ Chart, and No. 3 on the Folk Alliance International radio play chart. It has also been nominated for two 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Mary Beth’s debut solo album, 2017’s Les biens-nommés, earned nominations at the Nova Scotia Music Awards and the ECMA’s. It features original, accordion-fueled songs in French and English, with Donald MacLennan on violin and the Melchin brothers on double bass and percussion.

As a member of the former duo Bette & Wallet, Mary Beth was nominated Traditional Singer of the Year at the 2009 Canadian Folk Music Awards. The duo toured extensively and released two albums, Voici… and Électrique. Their most popular song, “Squeegees,” transforms a public domain French-Canadian song into a humorous, bilingual anthem about urban winter hardships.

In addition to her work as a solo artist, Mary Beth is in demand as a guitar accompanist for Celtic fiddlers and has performed with many of the best, including Cape Breton’s Ashley MacIsaac, Colin Grant, and Chrissy Crowley. She is known for her distinct, rhythmic style, keen ear, and mastery of the unusual DADGAD tuning. Michaela Jessome is a 27-year-old makeup artist from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia with over a decade of experience under her brush belt.

The Text Collector is a multidisciplinary project that deconstructs poetry and pop music, rebuilding the pieces into a listening experience even richer than the sum of its parts. The songs use the swirling melodies and glitzed-up production of Top 40, and lyrics that address the interconnected relationship between desire and despair.

The album was written from a poetry project where Hoffman wrote one poem a day for 365 days. All of those poems are now published in a book called “The Text Collector: An Anthology”. In addition to the written work and the songs, The Text Collector was accompanied by eight art pieces, handmade by Hoffman, and four music videos.

By pressing light up against dark until it’s evident they’re just different parts of a multi-faceted whole, Hoffman dismantles illusions of duality on her sophomore record, clearing space to meet her feelings on their own terms instead of forcing them into a box.

In late 2014, she joined inesS, a pole and circus studio located in downtown Halifax. She started with aerial silks but fell in love with pole dancing. She started competing in pole art and pole doubles beginning in 2017 and holds three gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals in competition.

After winning a bronze medal in pole doubles at nationals, she and her pole partner, Jill, were offered positions on Team Canada to compete at Worlds. However, between the pandemic and the kind of time and energy required to compete on the world stage, they never did compete at that level. She now teaches and performs at inesS. At the age of five, Julien began playing the drums, shortly after that he started writing and recording raps. It wasn’t long before the home studio that Julien created became the neighbourhood recording studio. Being able to create a space, and provide resources, knowledge, and access to equipment was what Julien enjoyed the most. Today Julien does just that through artist management and development, live music production, and public speaking.

Julien served as an active member on the board of The African Nova Scotian Music Association (ANSMA) from 2020-2023. During this time on the board of ANSMA, he curated panels and showcases and fundraised to fuel the organization's mission. While engaged in his volunteer work, Julien stepped in as Interim Investment Program Manager at Music Nova Scotia in 2022. In this role, he provided information to those pursuing a career in the music industry, in addition to overseeing the distribution of public funds allocated to each of Music Nova Scotia’s Investment Programs, and much more.

Julien is currently the Programming Committee Chair at ADVANCE Canada’s Music Business Collective and also serves on the East Coast Music Association’s African Canadian Music Committee.

In 2023, Julien was hired as ANSMA’s first Executive Director in the organization's history. In this position, Julien aims to serve the African Nova Scotian/Black community with greater emphasis on youth and career development in music. Yasmine developed the concept behind Ange while working with handprinted/ painted silks for her graduation project that hit the runway at her university’s gala in 2018. The project was based on hand-painted sheer white silks and elegant duchess satins.

Yasmine worked as a bridal consultant and this helped her get closer to realise the huge demand for modern, unique and light features in bridal gowns. This led to her going back to her painted white silks and creating something out of them. From that moment, Ange was born!

As a deeply creative child who lived with undiagnosed ADHD, Nami spent a good chunk of her childhood and teenage years playing the piano, reading books, journaling and observing the world around her. After getting diagnosed as an adult, she shared her experiences of living with ADHD on Tiktok (@namisayshello). She built a community of like-minded people who engaged in conversations about invisible disabilities, shared resources and coping strategies, discussed the inefficiencies of ADHD treatment in Canada and more.

They are interested in making unique jewellery that explores humanity’s place within the natural world and the constructed nature of identity.

Piper’s work has been exhibited at the New Brunswick Government House and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.

They attended NBCCD and graduated with a diploma in jewellery and metal arts in 2018, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Saint Vincent University in 2011. Piper’s artistic career blossomed from an existential crisis regarding a political theory thesis and their love for making odd little things, and they’ve happily managed to merge both those loves into their practice today.

She received her formal training at Mount Saint Vincent University, earned an Early Childhood Management Certificate at St. Mary’s University and was granted a “Baccalauréat en sciences humaines” from “immigration et communautés culturelles”, in Montreal. 

She spent most of her formative working years at the East Preston Day Care and Family Resource Centre and ultimately became its Executive Director. 

In 2018, she co-founded Learning4YoungMinds, a company offering online and in-person workshops teaching empathy and socialization to young children; anti-racism training for educators and student support workers; and writing support for BIPOC youth. 

She currently serves on the ECE advisory committee and is filling the role of lead faculty for the Africentric Cohort of the ECE program at the Nova Scotia Community College.

As a roughneck, he studied alternative health modalities, and when his encounter with the fossil fuel industry motivated him to study renewable energy, he kept an eye out for hints about the kind of energy he studied in that context. These dual interests have all stayed active, recently leading to two books - one on the spiritual side of programming, and one a children's book on health.

Chris has an ongoing interest in combining technology with spirituality and hopes to continue his exploration of the weird overlap between those fields in the years to come. He believes there is a lot we don't know about the world - and that learning more about it all is a great way to spend his finite time on the planet. 

His current research on time and quantum mechanics has really stretched his brain, and he hopes to use that flexibility to work on similar projects - he's interested in bioinformatics and music, but also open to whatever else comes across his path.

DeRico Symonds holds an undergraduate degree in Child & Youth Study (2012) and an MEd in counselling through Acadia University (2018).
