The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.

Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

This is Vime's Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness. This has nothing to do with the episode this week, its just interesting to think about.

Some TV finales are great, like M*A*S*H. Some TV finales are bad, like How I Met Your Mother (sorry Mike). Some are just puzzling, like this one. Boy Meets World meets the end of the line with part 1 of a 3 part finale that bids farewell to one of the best characters on the show as Angela says her farewells to Shawn and the gang before going to Europe with her father.

Things get weird as UFO-X makes another appearance, giving us the silliest Gotchard suit yet, but not if X-Rex has anything to say about it as Super Gotchard X-Rex also makes an appearance to square off with Kamen Rider Dread once again. Its a wild and fun time as the series begins to ramp up and get going somewhere.

Boys Meet Shangri-La and the Death of the Utopia

As Boys Meets World continues its strange march into the series finale, so too are we following like the lemmings we are. (In reality, lemmings do not actually all throw themselves to their deaths, that we nature documentarians trying to make things more exciting for the viewers at home (capitalism baby!) but I digress.)

This week, we watch possibly the strangest episode of Boy Meets World since Cory thought he was turning into a werewolf in a thinly veiled allegory for puberty I guess, with "As Time Goes By". It is a tribute to noir and hard boiled detectives and an examination of the very concept of the utopia and how easy it is for it all to come crashing down. Or maybe the writers ran out of ideas and are scrambling, it is hard to tell. Either way, its a fun time.

The Boys, along with long time guest HiFiMike, finally made it to the one they have been dreading all this time. The episode that both agreed was a bad bake Mary Berry, is the one this week! And hooboy were they right about this one.

"This is my thing now" you might say. Well, if you have been listening along to these episodes as we explore non-struck media while studio executives continue to show how they don't value the people that made all that money they love int he first place, then you know what this is about to say.

We here at Boy Meets World Fever have found a new love, not that Boy Meets World isn't something we enjoy anymore, but just like Cory and Topanga at so many points throughout the show, we are broken up, knowing that one day we will get back together (big kiss). That new love is the Japanese Tokusatsu Kamen Rider.

This week we are going all in as we review not one, but two Kamen Rider series as Chance and Cameron have just finished watching Kamen Rider Revice and Kamen Rider Kuuga respectively. Sometimes in life, you have a plan, a way you think things should go. Everything seems to be lining up and it is time to go full steam ahead.

But then, well, billionaires happen and they ruin everything.

Since studio executives decided they should not have to pay the actors and crew and writers for all of the things that they do and provide protections for them from the uncertainty of the AI future, SAG-AFTRA and the WGA are on strike. And Boy Meets World, being a Disney property, is struck material.

Now, we have no delusions about being members of these unions, but we want to support them as best we can. So until the strikes are resolved, we aren't talking Boy Meets World. We are still the Boys, this is still Boy Meets World Fever, and when you think about it, the content isn't changing all that much.

The Pack

Virtually all Solitaire games are played with one or more standard 52-card packs. Standard Solitaire uses one 52-card pack.

Object of the Game

The first objective is to release and play into position certain cards to build up each foundation, in sequence and in suit, from the ace through the king. The ultimate objective is to build the whole pack onto the foundations, and if that can be done, the Solitaire game is won.

Rank of Cards

The rank of cards in Solitaire games is: K (high), Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, A (low).

The Deal

There are four different types of piles in Solitaire:

The Tableau: Seven piles that make up the main table.

The Foundations: Four piles on which a whole suit or sequence must be built up. In most Solitaire games, the four aces are the bottom card or base of the foundations. The foundation piles are hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs.

The Stock (or “Hand”) Pile: If the entire pack is not laid out in a tableau at the beginning of a game, the remaining cards form the stock pile from which additional cards are brought into play according to the rules.

The Talon (or “Waste”) Pile: Cards from the stock pile that have no place in the tableau or on foundations are laid face up in the waste pile.

To form the tableau, seven piles need to be created. Starting from left to right, place the first card face up to make the first pile, deal one card face down for the next six piles. Starting again from left to right, place one card face up on the second pile and deal one card face down on piles three through seven. Starting again from left to right, place one card face up on the third pile and deal one card face down on piles four through seven. Continue this pattern until pile seven has one card facing up on top of a pile of six cards facing down.

The remaining cards form the stock (or “hand”) pile and are placed above the tableau.

When starting out, the foundations and waste pile do not have any cards.

The Play

The initial array may be changed by "building" - transferring cards among the face-up cards in the tableau. Certain cards of the tableau can be played at once, while others may not be played until certain blocking cards are removed. For example, of the seven cards facing up in the tableau, if one is a nine and another is a ten, you may transfer the nine to on top of the ten to begin building that pile in sequence. Since you have moved the nine from one of the seven piles, you have now unblocked a face down card; this card can be turned over and now is in play.

As you transfer cards in the tableau and begin building sequences, if you uncover an ace, the ace should be placed in one of the foundation piles. The foundations get built by suit and in sequence from ace to king.

Continue to transfer cards on top of each other in the tableau in sequence. If you can’t move any more face up cards, you can utilize the stock pile by flipping over the first card. This card can be played in the foundations or tableau. If you cannot play the card in the tableau or the foundations piles, move the card to the waste pile and turn over another card in the stock pile.

If a vacancy in the tableau is created by the removal of cards elsewhere it is called a “space”, and it is of major importance in manipulating the tableau. If a space is created, it can only be filled in with a king. Filling a space with a king could potentially unblock one of the face down cards in another pile in the tableau.

Continue to transfer cards in the tableau and bring cards into play from the stock pile until all the cards are built in suit sequences in the foundation piles to win!

There was a gentle ding as the doors to the shop opened and a man stepped in. His hair was short cropped on the sides and long on top. He wore a western shirt with a bolo tie, very out of place in the New England coffee shop. He had an easy smile and easily commanded the room. But his eyes, oh his soft blue eyes, they told a different story all together. This was a man who had been hurt time and time again. A man who had hurt, maybe intentionally, maybe not, time and time again. The mischevious glint was an invitation, a dare, maybe it will work out, maybe it won't, but why not roll the dice and find out.

He ordered a coffee and sat down at the table with her. Noticing that she had been staring at her since the moment he walked in, he decided to strike up a conversation.

"Hi," he said, voice raspy and world weary, despite his young appearance. "I'm Chet Hunter."

"Elaine McGinty," she replied. "Nice to meet you Chet."

M*A*S*H is a show that really does it all. It runs the gamut of whimsy (Corporal Klinger and his antics, Hawkeye makes up a Captain and hijinks ensue) to very serious (the whole cast had very weird dreams in one episode about the effects of the war on their minds, Hawkeye and Trapper help a soldier realize that he is horribly racist and needs to get over that real quick and stop being terrible). It is an incredible show that ran for so long and is absolutely worth watching again and again. Even 40 years later, the finale is still the most watched non-live television program, even beating out the OJ verdict.

Well it looks like "The Honeymoon is Over" this week on Boy Meets World Fever. Cory and Topanga discover just how "hard" marriage is and move into a slum. Just like Cory and Topanga need to, it is important if you are renting a house or apartment, that you know just what your rights are as a tenant. So here is some helpful information from the legal website Findlaw.com

Anti-Discrimination Laws

Under the Federal Fair Housing Act, landlords may not discriminate against current or prospective tenants on the basis of their race, gender, sexual orientation, familial status, religion, ethnicity, national origin, or disability. This applies to advertisements that exclude any of those protected characteristics. Some states also extend these protections to other protected classes, as well.

The Right to a Habitable Home

A "habitable home" is a house or apartment that is reasonably fit to live in. This means your rental should be free from unsafe conditions, such as the following:

Bad electrical wiring

Lack of running water

Faulty floors

Infestation of rats, cockroaches, or other pests

Mold

Broken doors

Leaking or unstable ceilings

Keep in mind that most state laws prohibit landlords from adding language in the lease to "waive" this right.

Security Deposits: Limits and Deadlines

Most landlords require tenants to pay a security deposit upon signing the lease, which is then returned to the tenant after the lease term ends (minus any money needed for reasonable repairs, cleaning, or unpaid rent). However, most states have laws that place limits on how much of a deposit a landlord may require and how soon it must be refunded at the end of a lease. Keep in mind that tenants may have to pay an additional deposit for pets or other factors considered that are considered liabilities.

Tenant's Right to Privacy

Just because the landlord owns the building you're renting doesn't give them the right to enter your unit whenever they like. As a tenant, you have the right to a reasonable level of privacy and quiet enjoyment of the property. There may be times when the landlord needs to access your rental property to do a repair or check something, but they are generally required to give you notice beforehand.

Landlords also have the right to conduct reasonable background checks into a prospective tenant's credit history and crime records.

On our show we sometimes make silly claims alongside Boy Meets World like "Don't Join the Mob" or "Don't Join a Cult" but in all seriousness, if you do find yourself in unsafe or unlivable housing, know your rights and reach out to others in your community to get help either improving your situation or getting the heck out. I (Cameron) was planning to go into a long diatribe here about how sports betting worked as it is relevant to today's episode and Chance gets into it a little on the episode but I honestly cannot wrap my head around it or find it all that interesting, so instead I am going to continue to unpack how Eric Matthews helped define the early 2000's film industry with a look at the 2000 classic Bring It On starting Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union.

Once again, just as he did with Master of Disguise, Eric Matthews seems to be predicting major cinema moments before they happen as he portrays a sleazy cheerleader looking up the skirts of the cheerleaders he lifts into the air. I am not sure if this is merely coincidence at this point. Have I been making signal when there has been only noise for 6 full seasons now and my brain is broken? Will I ever truly find happiness outside of making seemingly random connections between things that don't actually exist? I must scream, for I do not know.

Boys Meet Rachel Ought to Chill

In 2002, the world was in deep despair. There was war, economic turmoil, and sorrow after sorrow. The president choked on a pretzel, U2 performed the halftime show at the Super Bowl, Rudy Guiliani received an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth. Trouble was all around us and fear was never far away. But one man, one brave man, knew just what the world needed to make things good again. Dana Carvey released his magnum opus, Master of Disguise. Despite critical and audience revulsion to the film (if you could call it that) the world began to heal, just a bit.

None of that would have been possible without this episode of Boy Meets World, episode 703, "Angela's Men" (probably) in which Eric disguises himself as many different things in a attempt to exact revenge of Topanga for beating him up. There is also a wonderful story about Angela and dealing with trauma and all of those things, but also Eric pretends to be the farmer in American Gothic.

Boys Meet Kayfabe and Brand New Hairdos

In professional wrestling, kayfabe is the portrayal of staged events within the industry as "real" or "true", specifically the portrayal of competition, rivalries, and relationships between participants as being genuine and not staged. This allows for a real investment in the characters and events within the sport while downplaying the staged nature of the events (which are not actually staged because kayfabe tells us they are not).

As we begin season 7 in earnest and not as a hilarious prank that made everyone laugh, it is clear that some element of kayfabe has infiltrated the world of Boy Meets World. Some of this is through the literal presence of wrestler Mankind and maybe the strangest moment in Boy Meets World to date. But at the same time, things are starting to feel a bit off, but rather than acknowledge the fact that season 7 of Boy Meets World is in some ways going against all of the characters and not really doing the things that we know the show does well, we are just joining in the Boy Meets World kayfabe and are along for the ride.

Ah Mary Poppins. First introduced in 1934 in a book of the same name written by P.L. Travers, Mary Poppins blew into our hearts alongside the East Wind as she came to care for the Bank children in London. She was further popularized by the Walt Disney Company with the movie Mary Poppins in 1964 starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. Through a wonderful mixture of play, songs, and a dash of magic, Mary Poppins guides the Banks children to be more fully realized people who care for things like laughter and feeding birds and flying kites. She also has an umbrella, this is an important fact. The character of Mary Poppins has been referenced across much of pop culture since she was first introduced, recently in Guardians of the Galaxy Part 2. But there is no reference to that beloved, magical, possibly witchlike figure of Mary Poppins more endearing, hilarious, or twisted than in this special episode of Boy Meets World, "The Psychotic Episode." Thats right, "I Mary Poppin'ed ya".

The underlying premise of the school of thought is that organisms do not perceive the individual parts of a larger structure, but rather the structure as a whole. It is very brave of the creators of this episode of Boy Meets World, season 6 episode 18 "Can I Help to Cheer You" to really put this theory to the test.
