Intercity Trip

Today we are sharing a behind the scenes look at a trip we took last week with the Asheville Chamber of Commerce. Each year our Chamber hosts a trip to a host city to support learning, exchange of ideas, and best practice sharing. This year I enjoyed a wonderful two days in the city of Charleston, South Carolina, where I was able to sit in on various panel discussions, learn about the King Street Business Improvement District (BID), and explore the city of Charleston with fellow leaders from Asheville.

In this week’s episode, Tracy Eames, CEO of TEAMES & CO is talking about optimizing your strategic planning process. Do you ever feel like you are always strategic planning? You start in August, and you have customer discovery, stakeholder surveys, data reporting, program/product assessments as you start creating forecasts for what next year could look like.

And that usually ends up being a 200 tab Excel file, right. There is the forecast and the reforecast and the re-reforecast and so on down the line. And this takes a lot of time, right? It usually takes most of our Q3 and a lot of our Q4 because we sit in meeting rooms, especially the senior leadership.

The worst part is that if you are setting strategy in Q3 & Q4, it means you are not setting goals until midway through Q1, and you are already behind the ball. How are teams expected to execute on the annual plan if they do not have goals until March.

In this week’s episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with Leah Craig Fieser, Executive Director at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.

In honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day we are interviewing Leah Craig Fieser, the Executive Director of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, NC. We invited Leah to speak with us about her team as one of our goals is to bring awareness to adopting senior pets, and chose Brother Wolf, as I adopted my senior pup, Weezie from their rescue in 2019.

Weezie was a bit older than 10 years old at the time, but still has the energy of a 6-year-old :)

I am dedicated to raising awareness about adopting senior pets as they have often, like Weezie, been in family homes for many years, and adjusting to a shelter can be difficult. While they may come with unique needs, animal rescues and shelters can work with you to find the right match for you and your family, and a senior pet can be a wonderful companion - I know my senior pup has been a welcome addition to the family.
