The New York Yankees played their first game of the season against the Philadelphia Phillies at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida, over the weekend. Although they lost 7-4, many takeaways from the game were notable, including six in particular. Despite the introduction of new rules, including pitch clocks and shift restrictions, which are expected to change the game's dynamics, the Yankee's performance wasn't affected. The biggest highlight of the game was 20-year-old outfielder Jasson Dominguez, dubbed "The Martian," who hit a homer 420 feet to left-center field to lead off the fifth inning. Here are the five other takeaways from the game:

First, Dominguez is the youngest player at big-league spring training for the Yankees and is considered the second-best prospect in the team's organization. Manager Aaron Boone praised Dominguez's understanding and ease of the strike zone, saying he has "no panic up there."

Second, batters will need to adjust to the pitch clock, ensuring they're in the batter's box at the eight-second mark, and picking up signs from the third-base coach may prove challenging initially.

Third, the pitch clock will make pitchers work faster on the mound, which will benefit infield defenses. Infielders will be more engaged than ever, and infield positioning will change.

Fourth, Boone said there could be times when managers and umpires clash over the finer points of the new rules. There were some issues with the pitch clock resetting too soon during the game, which didn't give players enough time to get into their defensive positions.

Fifth, infielders can no longer stand on the outfield grass due to shift restrictions, which might require some getting used to.

Finally, despite Dominguez's impressive performance, he's focused on the task at hand and not on reaching the Bronx before the end of this season.

The Yankees and Guardians moved to Progressive Field after Cleveland tied the series 1-1 winning Friday series in the Brinx. Homers by Aaron Judge, Oswaldo Cabrera, and Harrison Bader and pretty decent pitching performance from Severino were not enough as the Yankee bullpen could not hold 5-3 and 5-4 lead.

A do-or-die game 4 is scheduled for Sunday, October 16, 2022, in Cleveland with Gerrit Cole on the mound.

Sauer struck out 17 batters in eight masterful innings against Double-A New Hampshire. He allowed only two hits and one run. Perhaps the most impressive stat is that he racked up all those strikeouts in just 95 pitches thanks to an exceptional 78% strike percentage. Sauer became the first full-season minor leaguer to strike out 17 batters in a game since Phil Pfeifer did so in July 2019 with the now defunct High-A Florida Fire Frogs. No other major or full-season minor league pitcher has struck out more than 14 in a game this year.

Yankees Acquire Andrew Benintendi (7-29-22) - BONUS

The New York Yankees announced that they have acquired OF Andrew Benintendi from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for minor leaguers RHP Chandler Champlain, LHP T.J. Sikkema, and RHP Beck Way.

Benintendi, 28, has hit .320/.387/.398 (111-for-347) with 40R, 14 doubles, 2 triples, 3HR, 39RBI and 4SB in 93 games this season with Kansas City. The 2022 American League All-Star entered today ranking second in the Majors in multi-hit games (34, first in the AL), fifth in batting average (third in the AL), tied for seventh in hits (tied for second in AL), and eighth in on-base percentage (fifth in the AL).

The left-handed hitter has reached base in 31 of his last 33 games with an at-bat since June 14, batting .360/.430/.416 (45-for-125) with 19R, 4 doubles, 1HR, 17RBI, 16BB, and 4SB in that span. Over that stretch, Benintendi leads the AL and ranks third in the Majors in on-base percentage and ranks second in the AL and fourth in the Majors in batting average.

He has also hit safely in 19 of his last 22 starts (since June 27), batting .398/.457/.434 (33-for-83) with 12R, 3 doubles, 14RBI, 10BB, and 3SB in that span.

The 2021 Gold Glove Award winner has made 89 starts in left field this year and has not made an error in 164 total chances. His 40 outfield assists since 2017 are tied for the fourth-most in the Majors in that span.

Over seven Major League seasons with the Boston Red Sox (2016-20) and Kansas City Royals (2021-22), he has batted .280 (749-for-2,677) with 382R, 160 doubles, 17 triples, 71HR, 372RBI, 296BB, and 65SB in 712 career games. In his career, he has hit .324/.410/.491 (203-for-627) with 45 doubles, 9 triples, 14HR, 284RBI, and 109BB with runners in scoring position.

Benintendi has made the postseason three times (2016-18 with the Red Sox), hitting .272/.322/.407 (22-for-81) with 18R, 5 doubles, 2HR, 9RBI and 5BB in 21 career postseason games. In 2018, he started 13 of 14 playoff games for the Red Sox during their World Series campaign.

Corey Kluber threw the first Yankees no-hitter this century in a 2-0 victory over the Rangers on Wednesday night at Globe Life Field.

"I think it's all kinds of emotions," Kluber said on the field after the game. "It's excitement, you know, probably some relief, too, that it's over with."

The last Yankees no-hitter had been David Cone's 6-0 perfect game against the Montreal Expos on July 18, 1999, at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees have now thrown 12 no-hitters in their history, ranking 12th on the all-time list.

Higashioka caught Kluber tonight and the battery only allowed one walk over 9 innings.

I recognize that speaking publicly will be an important step for me and I will do so in the upcoming days."
Aaron Boone said that Domingo Germán talked to the team (around 30 min.) Germán talked to pitchers and catchers as a group and addressed the position players separately. Boone: "It was a good step; something that was important to happen and gave everyone a chance to really start that conversation."
