Reclaim

RECLAIM's mission is to increase access to mental health care so queer and trans youth may reclaim their lives from oppression in all its forms. RECLAIM is one of the region's only resources where queer and trans youth ages 12-25 can get financially accessible, specialized mental health care. Reclaim provides individual, family, group, and couples counseling to folks who are seeking support with identity development as it relates to sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression. Reclaim supports young people in building resilience as they navigate multiple biases and oppressions that can impact their wellbeing. Beyond therapy, RECLAIM provides community trainings, education, and outreach to local partners to change the overall landscape of access to care for queer and trans youth.

What we do: RECLAIM increases access to mental health support so that queer and trans youth ages 13-25 may reclaim their lives from oppression in all its forms. We provide therapy to 65+ youth each week, 80% of whom are trans or gender nonconforming; develop practitioners with an emphasis on changing the landscape of access to care in our region through training POCI therapists in gender competent care; and partner in community through outreach & education and the intersection of gender and racial justice.

Therapy: RECLAIM provides individual, family, and couples counseling for young people ages 13-25 who are seeking services focused on identity development as it relates to sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression. We support young people in building resilience as they navigate multiple biases and oppressions that can impact their wellbeing.

RECLAIM’s therapists use the Adaptive Internal Relational (AIR) Network as a foundational approach to guide their work with young people and their experiences of trauma. The AIR Network is “a neuro-developmental, competency-based model of therapy that is primarily oriented toward giving people the freedom to engage fully with themselves and in relationships with others.” More information on this model can be found at www.airnetworkinstitute.com. In addition to the AIR Network, our therapists also use Narrative therapy, CBT, DBT, somatic experiencing and person-centered models of care.

Practitioners: RECLAIM has historically offered training, mentorship, and support for practitioners and practitioners-in-training through internships, fellowships, and Passages (a program formerly known as the POC Therapy Cohort). We believe in supporting practitioners of all experience levels to provide care that is sensitive to the diverse needs in our community. We currently have limited offerings for training and plan to restart internships in the Fall of 2022; please check back for future updates.

Trainings and Consultations: RECLAIM offers both training and on-going consultation to organizations that are interested in improving their ability to work effectively around experiences of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Discussion of preferred language and terminology and the impact of chronic and acute trauma

Examining how sexual orientation and gender identity intersects with other forms of oppression

Press Releases: IANA strives to show representation for our people and give a voice to our community when we can do so through our actions and our platform. IANA works heavily on community advocacy and social justice. It is vital for IANA to give a voice to those we represent.

Da’wah: IANA Islamic Association of North America (IANA) was founded in the year of 2001 to meet the religious and social needs of Muslim societies in North America. As a response to the changing realities of Muslim communities, IANA re-positions itself to effectively reach diverse Muslim communities across the country.

IANA Relief: IANA pushes for not only supporting the local community but the communities we have back home. In any case of relief and aid, IANA is willing to help support our people when they need it most. In the past decade, IANA has raised over 5 million dollars in aid and funding.

COVID-19: During the COVID-19 pandemic IANA has raised awareness and delivered detailed information regarding the virus and resources for those who have been affected by it. IANA partnered with MDH to best serve the Somali and Muslim community at large. By partnering with MDH, IANA has set up a COVID-19 hotline where the community can call and ask questions pertaining to finding a COVID-19 testing site, rental and food assistance, and any other resources. Mosques and Islamic organizations were closed during the peak of COVID-19 to ensure everyone’s safety.

Civics Engagement: IANA partnered with Faith in MN in order to engage the local community and member mosques to complete their civic duties and claim their voices around the issues that matter. Some of those issues include ending islamophobia, mass incarceration, immigration reform, economy, and climate justice. We also conducted several training programs and mobilized many of our members to become senate district and state delegates. We have participated in many forums with candidates to build powerful public relationships and start a co-creative relationship to shape the future we need in Minnesota. We created campaigns to do pledge drives at our mosques during Fridays and contacted thousands of Muslims through phone and text banks. We also hired, trained, and developed Muslim and Somali canvassers to do door knocking and help get people to the polls. We had several of our Imams hold a press conferences on the importance of engagement and standing for our issues and values. We continue to partner up with community partners in order to ensure a more just and equitable society.

Family and Business Counseling: Due to the needs of the Muslim community for counseling services, IANA will provide very comprehensive counseling services for families, youth, and business people. The counseling program is designed in that a number of our renowned scholars, Imams, and professionals in that field are designated to handle each individual case according to Sharia’ and the cultural background of the community. Community members and business people contact the organization and set up a counseling session. They also provide General Fatwa to those inquiries about all aspects of the Islamic religion especially with inquiries that require further research and deep understanding of the Islamic jurisprudence.

Everyone should have the opportunity to lead a healthy, self-directed life, and people living with HIV should not feel stuck, isolated, or stigmatized.

The Aliveness Project was founded as a community center for and driven by people living with HIV. For over 30 years, we have been facilitating connection to community, offering nutrition & wellness services, and linking our members to resources to lead fulfilling & healthy lives.

People living with HIV who access services at The Aliveness Project are called members.

Anyone living with HIV is warmly welcomed to become a member of The Aliveness Project at no cost.

Youth AIDS Project

The University of Minnesota Youth and AIDS Projects (YAP) was founded in 1989, with a mission to prevent transmission of HIV to and from high-risk youth and to provide care to youth and families living with HIV infection. Our governing philosophy is that adolescents can and do make responsible health-related decisions, given appropriate resources and support. YAP programs are grounded in the belief that HIV-related services for youth must be developmentally appropriate, culturally competent, coordinated, and family-centered in order to be effective.

YAP is administratively housed in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Health in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. As both a University- and community-based organization, YAP intertwines service provision, research, and teaching in all aspects of programming.

Overall COVID-19 Response:

The safety and health of our clients, community, and staff are central to our response to COVID-19. As a result, YAP staff have moved to a hybrid remote/in-person work model. Walk-in services may not be available at all times. Education groups have resumed, and we are making our best efforts to include a virtual option for these sessions.

If attending an in-person appointment, face coverings (masks) and social distancing are recommended. If you would like the staff person you are meeting with to wear a mask, please inform them. Masks are available to all clients for both YAP office use, and for PPE use in the community. If you require additional assistance or precautions, contact YAP staff prior to your appointment.

HIV services help HIV+ youth achieve quality of life, prevent premature illness/death, and prevent secondary transmission to partners and offspring.

This is accomplished through comprehensive case management and easy access to:

HIV Prevention Program

Our Prevention Program aims to prevent transmission of HIV to and from 13 to 24 year-old young men who have sex with men (YMSM) and to improve the capacity of providers and parents to meet these young people's prevention needs.

HIV Risk Assessment

Upon enrollment, all clients complete an individual risk assessment with our HIV Prevention Program staff. These sessions are scheduled at the clients' conveniences in a variety of locations. The initial assessment provides the case manager a baseline of information for individualized education and risk-reduction counseling and also allows us to monitor subsequent changes in knowledge and attitudes about HIV/AIDS and other STI's (sexually transmitted infections), and risk behaviors. At the same time we are gathering information from a client, the client is receiving valuable information about HIV/AIDS and other STI transmission, and learning (and thinking) about their own level of risk.

Referral Services

After the initial assessment, prevention staff work with clients over a three month period to correct any remaining misinformation and to set individual goals for AIDS prevention. Youth who are in need of additional medical (including HIV testing and hepatitis vaccine), mental health, chemical dependency, or social services are offered appropriate referrals at this time. Whenever possible, clients are encouraged to involve their parents and families in the planning and implementation of referral services.

Follow-up

Clients are scheduled for a follow-up assessment within approximately three months of the initial interview. The purpose is to monitor short-term change in knowledge, attitudes, and behavior, to reinforce learning, and to encourage progress.

This program is open to HIV+ youth, ages 13 to 30, are the sexual or injection sharing partners of HIV+ youth, or identify as high risk of getting HIV. To enroll, please contact Wendi Johnson.

HIV Testing Services

The goal of YAP's HIV testing program is to reduce illness and death by promoting the early identification and treatment of HIV infection. HIV testing is a free service of the Youth and AIDS Projects. Learn more about our HIV Testing services here.

Our specific objectives are to:

Make HIV antibody counseling and testing easily available.

Link HIV+ youth with existing systems of care after diagnosis.

What are the testing procedures?

Our staff will explain the process and ask permission before testing.

Complete a questionnaire with a case manager to determine your specific level of risk.

We use the INSTI HIV 1/2 test kit that is at least 99.5% accurate. Testing is done by taking one drop of blood from the finger, results are available in as quickly as one minute.

A case manager at YAP will provide results and post-test counseling for follow up services.

Avenues programs not only provide safe shelter and housing options for youth, but holistic supports to meet a youth's mental, physical, and life-long goals. Youth are the drivers of their own journeys, and Aveneus is here to walk alongside them during this part of their story. Avenues programs support youth in Minnesota who are 16-24 years old, and their children, who are experiencing homelessness.

Avenues Mission

Avenues partners with youth experiencing homelessness to achieve their dreams.

For more than 25 years, Avenues has supported youth ages 16-24 in Hennepin County. Whether a young person needs someplace to stay for just one night, or a year and a half, Avenues empowers youth to find their path out of homelessness. They do that by providing a stable home, building trusting relationships, and navigating the youth’s education, career, health and wellness and housing goals.

Avenue believes:

Homelessness does not define a person. It is just one part of a journey that we are here to help young people navigate.

Nearly all youth experiencing homelessness have or are experiencing trauma. Therefore, mental health is at the center of all our work.

There is no one reason why youth experience homelessness – it’s intersectional. Systems of oppression, racism and poverty are some of the root causes of homelessness. Without addressing these systems, homelessness will persist.

Youth are resilient, inspiring, and the drivers of their own journey. With stability, trust and youth-centered supports, their dreams can become reality.

Avenues work is guided by the 9 Evidence-based, Guiding Principles to Help Youth Overcome Homeless and our core values: equity, community, respect and dignity, trust, liberation and anti-oppression.

Avenues operates two shelter and transitional living programs that support youth ages 16-20 of all gender identities. Minneapolis Avenues, in North Minneapolis, provides emergency shelter and housing in a welcoming and youth-driven environment. We're here to help you navigate resources to get you where you want to be. If you're looking for a one-three night stay in an emergency bed, reserve a bed using the link on the website. If you are looking to enter the program, our beds become available on a first come, first served basis. Minneapolis Avenues has 20 program beds. Check YSNMN for our availability.

Brooklyn Avenues has 11 program beds. Both houses are staffed 24/7 with supportive adults who are dedicated and focused on supporting you.

Brooklyn Avenues and Minneapolis Avenues support individual youth ages 16-20 of all gender identities. Minneapolis Avenues and Brooklyn Avenues do not accept families, couples, pets, or youth over 21 or younger than 16. Emergency Bed

Need a place to stay tonight? Avenues has an emergency bed at each shelter where you can stay, have a hot meal and connect to resources. The emergency beds become available at 4:00 pm every day and are first call first served. Call us at 4:00 pm to reserve a bed.

Host Homes

Interested in living in a community host home? Avenues' ConneQT program centers LGBTQI+ youth and youth of color and work to secure community housing.

Young Families

Avenues' Young Families Program connect young families with housing and services. Families are supported through a referral process.

Youth Drop-In

The health and safety of youth at Avenues is, as always, our top priority. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, Avenues is making our youth drop-in hours at Camden Avenues by appointment only (Tuesdays from 2:30-5:00). If you are a young person, or know of a young person, in need of resources, we are here to help. Maia Pruim can bring supplies to you and can connect you with resources. About ConneQT, Our Host Home Program

Our host home program is youth-driven, meaning you decide what's the best option for you. Hosts are screened and trained community members who have a spare bedroom and are able to share resources with you. Our host home program supports marginalized youth. All of our host homes are LGBTQ or allies.

Host homes provide housing and food while you figure out your next steps. Avenues staff will work with you, and your host home, to make sure the process is as comfortable as possible. We'll connect you to resources like housing, education and career support, and more while in the program.

Our program supports LGBTQ youth ages 16-24 for up to a year. It can take 3-6 months for someone to move into a host home.

Red Door Clinic

The first nonprofit that we’re exploring is Red Door Clinic! This information is coming from the Red Door Clinic website:RedDoorClinic.org

Red Door Clinic is located in the Health Services Building at 525 Portland Avenue on the 4th floor. That’s in Minneapolis MN 55414. Their clinic hours are M,T.W.F 8-4 and Th 10-4. They’re closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and county holidays.

Red Door provides sexual health care for all people. We never turn away based on ability to pay. Services are divided into STD, HIV, and other Services.

Here is a breakdown of those services:

STDs

Anyone who has sex can get an STD, also called STI (sexually transmitted infection). Many people don’t know they’ve been infected because they don’t have symptoms. STDs can cause serious health problems and increase your risk of HIV infection.

Red Door offers testing for all people ages 12 and older. We also treat many infections. Red Door's specially trained staff will talk openly with you to determine the right testing and treatment

HIV. HIV services are divided into Testing, PREP and PEP, Support if you are HIV+, and if you are pregnant.

TESTING

Go to Red Door to get the rapid HIV test

The only way to know if you have HIV is to get tested.

Red Door will take blood from your finger and give you your results during your visit. Results are confidential.

PREP and PEP

PrEP is a daily pill for people who don't have HIV but are at high risk of getting it. Red Door prescribes medication that helps protect against HIV infection. This medication, along with condom use, safer sex counseling, and routine testing for sexually transmitted infections, can help reduce your risk of getting HIV. PEP is a pill for people who don't have HIV but may have been exposed to it within the last 72 hours. PEP appointments are available during regular clinic hours. The sooner you can come in the better, since PEP is most effective when taken closest to the time of exposure.

Some people who are HIV positive and on treatment are undetectable, which means their virus level is so low that it's highly unlikely they could transmit the virus to others. To date, there've been no cases of transmission among people who are undetectable.

Support if you are HIV+

Red Door connects people living with HIV to medical care, including those who are out of care and want to get back in, or are new to Minnesota and need help finding care here.

We provide a list of HIV health care providers in the community, help you make appointments, figure out insurance and financial assistance, and help with referrals for mental health, food, hormone treatment, employment and housing. For HIV-related consultation and referrals, call us at 612-543-5555.

Red Door offers the Positive Perspectives discussion group, for people living with HIV.

If you have HIV, we recommend telling your sexual partner(s) so they can get tested and treated. Red Door has specially trained staff who can find and notify your sexual partners. Ask about partner notification when you come in for testing.

If you're pregnant

Pregnant people who are HIV positive can spread the infection to their unborn babies, or during childbirth or breastfeeding.

Go to your pregnancy health care provider, such as an obstetrician or gynecologist. If you don’t have a provider, call the United Way for a referral at 651-291-0211 or call 211 from a land line.

Syringe services

Sharing needles and works such as cookers and cottons can transmit infections, such as Hepatitis C and HIV. Red Door offers needles and works at no cost to you so you can use fresh supplies every time.

You can drop off used needles and get new needles and works (cookers, cottons, ties, and alcohol preps) during regular clinic hours.

Tell the receptionist or any Red Door staff that you'd like to drop-off or exchange needles.

Bring used needles in a puncture-proof plastic bottle with a screw-on cap, such as a soda or laundry detergent bottle.

Stop an overdose with Narcan

Narcan (Naloxone) is a medication used to stop heroin or other opiate (e.g., percocet, oxycontin) overdose. Anyone can get Narcan without a prescription at Red Door for themselves, friends or family members.

Ask the receptionist or any Red Door staff for Narcan. We’ll ask you a few questions, but will not report names or addresses to anyone.

Supportive services

We offer a support group for people living with HIV. The group is currently meeting virtually. For information, email reddoor@hennepin.us

Birth control

Red Door offers pills, patch, ring, IUD, and Depo shot for people up to age 30.

Condoms and lube

Pick them up at the clinic free of charge. Red Door has non-latex condoms and internal condoms (formerly known as female condoms) - ask any staff member for assistance.

If you need assistance applying to the MNsure site, have questions regarding MNsure, or would like help with medical insurance renewals, contact our MNsure application counselor Luis (Angel) at 612-543-9309 or by email at Luis.SantosHenriquez@hennepin.us.

The time to get your children and teens vaccinated is now! As the school year approaches, now is the time to make sure your child is up to date on all recommended vaccines, including COVID-19 vaccines.

This includes young adults headed off to institutions of higher education, too! Children and teens can get COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines they need at the same visit.

Getting vaccinated is an important tool to keep our students safe and healthy while they are in school.

Announcements

A new COVID-19 vaccine called Novavax has been authorized by the Food and Drug

Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have provided recommendations for who can receive this vaccine.

Novavax can be given to people who are age 18 years and older and have not received other

COVID-19 vaccines.

People should get two doses of the vaccine given 3-8 weeks apart.

People who get the Novavax vaccine for their primary vaccine series are currently not

recommended to get a booster shot, but one may be recommended in the future.

At this time, Novavax cannot be used as a booster shot for people who received other COVID-19 vaccines.

Appointments open for vaccinating children under 5 at the Mall of America

State run site one of many options for parents, along with pediatricians, local clinics and pharmacies

Today, the State of Minnesota announced that appointments at the state-run Mall of America COVID-19 vaccination site are now open for Minnesota children between 6 months and 5 years old. This follows final authorization of the COVID-19 vaccine for this age group, which was recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) over the weekend.

Parents can now book appointments for the Pfizer vaccine at the Mall of America site online by going to: Community Vaccination for COVID-19. The Mall of America vaccination site is open Wednesdays through Fridays, 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Appointments are required for children 6 months to 5 years at the Mall of America, and initial demand is expected to be high. While the state-run Mall of America vaccination site is one option for parents, Minnesota’s provider network – primarily large medical systems, pediatricians, local clinics, and pharmacies – will administer most COVID-19 vaccines to children between 6 months and 5 years old because of their expertise caring for young children. Vaccine shipments are expected to arrive to Minnesota providers in waves over the next week.

For some young children that means they’ve missed important well-child visits and may be behind on immunizations they need to help keep them healthy. Projects should be guided by two or more young people between the ages of 15 and 26 who have been involved in the juvenile justice system. Priority areas for projects include restorative justice and practices, prevention practices that divert youth from initial contact with the juvenile justice system, expansion of community-based support for young people already engaged in the juvenile justice system, and/or solutions identified by youth or community members with direct experience with the justice system. The scope of projects can be local, statewide, or national. Two to four grants ranging between $25,000 and $50,000 will be awarded. Selected grantees should be able to demonstrate youth leadership and authentic youth-adult partnership throughout their work.

Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MNCASA) Community Prevention Partnerships Program (CPPP) Request for Proposal (RFP)

Deadline: May 25, 2022

MNCASA welcomes you to apply for the Community Prevention Partnerships Program (CPPP) Request for Proposal (RFP). They seek to fund two culturally responsive or culturally specific community-based organizations focusing on sexual violence prevention strategies within Minnesota. MNCASA is awarding $225,000 over a period of three years ($75,000 per year) to each of the two recipients.

RFP applications are due Wednesday, May 25th, 2022 by 5:00pm.

MNCASA will also be hosting a “Virtual Lunch & Learn” session on Monday, May 9th from 12:00-1:00pm where interested applicants can learn more about CPPP and have the opportunity to ask questions. NED is interested in proposals from nonpartisan programs that aim to promote and defend human rights and the rule of law, support freedom of information and independent media, strengthen democratic ideas and values, promote accountability and transparency, strengthen civil society organizations, strengthen democratic political processes and institutions, promote civic education, support democratic conflict resolution, promote freedom of association, and strengthen a broad-based market economy.

The Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood supports development projects and promising research to significantly enhance the physical and mental health, safety, nutrition, play, social integration, and/or quality of life of children from birth through seven years of age. The foundation is inviting letters of intent in the categories of Early Childhood Welfare (providing optimal support for all aspects of children's development such as child-rearing practices and models that can provide creative, caring environments in which all young children thrive); Early Childhood Education and Play (improving the quality of early childhood teaching and learning, and design of imaginative play materials and learning environments); and, Parenting Education (programs that provide cognitive and emotional support to parents). Letters of intent must be received no later than May 31, 2022, and selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application.

The Child Health Foundation is inviting applications for its Innovative Small Grants Program. Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded for innovative research or innovative service projects directed at improving the health and well-being of newborn infants during their first year of life. Through the program, CHF will consider a range of technologies and approaches, including biomedical and social projects that show promise, are innovative, and may have widespread application. Projects may address child health issues in developing countries or the U.S. Eligible applicants include registered nongovernmental organizations certified in the country of their origin.

FVPSA ARPA COVID-19 Special Projects for New Grantees: Family Violence Prevention & Services Act (FVPSA), American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds are available to support domestic violence and/or sexual assault programs in addressing the impact of COVID-19 on their agency’s services and increase supports for survivors impacted by the pandemic. These funds are designated for programs serving domestic violence and/or sexual assault survivors that currently do not have a Renewal Crime Victim Services (CVS-2022) grant from the Office of Justice Programs. $800,000 is available in one-time funding. The project period is 24 months starting July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2024. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2022.

Dream of Wild Health (DWH) Indigenous Food Share (IFS) Program
Dream of Wild Health (DWH) announces that the purchase of shares in their Indigenous Food Share (IFS) Program (https://dreamofwildhealth.org/farm/ifs) opened to the general public in February. They have transitioned towards a sliding scale payment model which will increase food access to Native families in the Twin Cities. To make this possible, they've created the Indigenous Food Share Solidarity Fund, which will subsidize the cost of IFS shares for DWH program families and community partners who otherwise would not be able to afford a share. If you would like to support Native food sovereignty and help them reach their $10,000 fundraising goal, please do so by donating to the Indigenous Food Share Solidarity Fund (https://www.givemn.org/story/Indigenousfoodshare).
Gov Walz Announces MN College Registration as part of ‘Kids Deserve a Shot’ See Word Document
We’ve been through this one. You can enter to win a 100,000 college scholarship if your child, age 5-11, is fully vaccinated for COVID-19. That registration is open until around the middle of April.
Vaccine Data Dashboard Update
We talked through this one last time as well. The dashboard is now tracking fully vaccinated people and defining that as having the appropriate number of initial shots AND a booster.

The conference theme "Together, for Planet and Community" will examine how public health professionals are taking action on some of the most urgent challenges of our time. Challenges, such as climate change, health inequities, and our public health workforce, that without action threaten the health of our communities and our planet. Addressing these challenges requires us all to learn from each other, share our wisdom, and commit to bold action.
Registration fees vary. MPHA strives to make conference attendance possible for all interested participants. Based on the amount of scholarship sponsors received, MPHA will offer a limited number of need-based scholarships to defray registration costs.
Eligibility: MPHA is committed to ensuring that conference participants from priority populations including people of color and American Indians, LGBTQ+ communities, persons with disabilities, and public health students attend and participate in our annual conference.
Based on the amount of scholarship fundraising, MPHA will have a limited number of scholarships for registration for attendees who identify themselves with one of these priority populations, or for those that have a special interest in advancing healthy equity in any one of these populations.
In addition, a limited number of scholarships are available through a lottery who work for an agency with a general operating budget of less than $50,000.

Applications are now being received on a rolling basis and awarded according to the donations in our scholarship fund.

Call for Community Partners: Healthy Brain Community Grant Opportunity (MDH)
DEADLINE: APRIL 11, 2022
The Minnesota Department of Health seeks community partners to implement public health approaches to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Funded community partners will use community knowledge and evidence-informed strategies to increase impact in one, two, or all three, of the following overarching strategies: risk reduction, increasing early diagnosis, and caregiver well-being.
Understanding memory loss and dementia differs among communities, and strategies that work in one community may not work in another. This opportunity provides funding to community-based organizations to lead with their lived experience and engage their community in identifying promising practices. Creativity and new solutions that are tailored to your community are encouraged.
Eligible applicants include community-based nonprofit organizations within Minnesota. MDH will select 1-3 partners to receive up to $20,000 through September 2023. No funding match is required.

Women's Sports Foundation invites LOIs for Sports 4 Life initiative
DEADLINE: MARCH 25, 2022
The Sports 4 Life initiative was created based on the knowledge that while sports participation offers tremendous life-long benefits, young girls of color are disproportionately excluded. The program aims to increase the participation and retention of Black, African American, Hispanic, and/or Native American girls, inclusive of American Indian and Alaska Native communities. A minimum of $280,000 will be awarded this year. Grants may be used for coaching, curriculum, equipment, uniforms, transportation, facility rental, tournaments and/or team-building activities, all while fostering the Sports 4 Life benefits: leadership, self-esteem, confidence, and perseverance. Eligible applicants include nonprofit schools, parks and recreation departments, nonprofit organizations, or amateur sports leagues.
Letters of Intent are due March 25, 2022, and selected applicants will be invited to submit a full grant application.

Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS)-- Community Engagement and Needs Assessment for Rural and Underserved Communities
DEADLINE: MARCH 31, 2022
A "Quick Call for Proposals" is being issued by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) inviting community-based organizations to lead targeted engagements that will inform major grants and spending initiatives including capacity building for alternative methods of service delivery, technology access, workforce development, caregiver respite and other support services. The engagement topic will be how to best expand access to Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) for older adults and people with disabilities.
Authorized by the 2021 Legislature, the grants of up to $50 thousand dollars will help address inequitable systems and disparities faced by underserved communities in need of HCBS services.
The target audiences for these community focused engagements include:
• American Indian and indigenous people, inclusive of MN sovereign tribal nations;
• Asian and Pacific Islander;
• Black and African-born;
• LatinX;
• LGBTQ;
• Rural and regional centers outside the metro area

Ann Bancroft Foundation invites applications for projects led by Minnesota girls
DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2022
The Ann Bancroft Foundation invites applications for its grants program which supports Minnesota girls each year to inspire and encourage them to imagine something bigger. The application is open to any Minnesota resident who identifies as a girl, including those who identify as cisgender, transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender non-binary people in grades K-12. Grants of up to $500 can support art, cultural, leadership, educational, outdoors/wilderness experiences, sport, athletic, dance equipment, or participation fees. Given the increased requirements for technology due to the COVID-19 pandemic for this Spring 2022 granting cycle, the foundation is also funding technology equipment and technology access for the activities. Applicants must have a grant mentor, a trusting adult who can support the applicant during the application process and throughout her grant activity. The mentor cannot be a family, the activity provider, or an employee of the activity provider.

Medica Foundation invites applications for behavioral health programs
DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2022
The Medica Foundation invests in community-led initiatives that advance health equity. The foundation has issued a request for proposals for behavioral health programs from organizations located in and providing services to the Native Nations of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and certain Wisconsin counties (Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Burnett, Chippewa, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pierce, Polk, Sawyer, St. Croix, and Washburn). Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded in support of creating new or expanding existing programs that provide support for serious mental illness and recovery from chemical addiction, including programs that address gaps in current service, integrate physical and mental health care, address co-occurring disorders, attend to the mental health needs of children experiencing homelessness, and provide supportive and intensive case management services. Organizations using trauma-sensitive practices and a strengths-based approach to care are preferred.

WITH Foundation invites applications for programs serving adults with disabilities
DEADLINE: APRIL 11, 2022
The WITH Foundation provides financial support to nonprofit organizations that promote comprehensive health care for adults with developmental disabilities. Programs supported are those that improve the delivery of health care to adult consumers with developmental disabilities and include at least one aspect of improving health practitioner competency; addressing inadequate reimbursement systems; advancing innovations in formal care coordination; enhancing public awareness of the inadequacies of developmentally disabled care; increasing understanding of supported decision making in healthcare settings; promoting national efforts in digital health to include the perspectives/experiences of the IDD community in the design process; and identifying and overcoming barriers to high-quality healthcare access. Applications from the San Francisco Bay Area may be given preferential consideration, but applications from other areas of the U.S. are not excluded. Letters of intent are due April 11.

Mental Health Therapist (LICSW)
RADIAS Health seeks a full-time Mental Health Professional licensed in Minnesota for their Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic. This position will treat adolescents, families and adults using evidence-based practices in compliance with federal, state and professional codes. This person will be responsible for treatment planning, assessments, individual and group therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills group and participate in DBT consultation team. This is an opportunity for a clinician to develop their practice within a setting that has an established client base.
Qualifications: Candidate must be a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the state of MN, a minimum of 4,000 hours of clinical experience, completed intensive DBT training, and must have experience with assessment, treatment planning and delivery of services using evidence-based practices.
Individual must be able to accommodate a flexible working schedule with some evening hours.
Mental Health Practitioner Housing Specialist
The FACT Team is seeking a Mental Health Practitioner Housing Specialist. Responsibilities include: assume primary responsibility for writing and implementing treatment goals in collaboration with the client and the treatment team; knowledge about housing and community resources; develop new housing opportunities for the population served; develop landlord relationships through outreach and education about the population served; assist clients with all aspects of psychiatric rehabilitation and all aspects of obtaining and maintaining housing; will assist and /or teach clients independent living skills; collaboration with appointed corrections liaison officer. Last week we talked through the new CDC COVID Community Level Guidelines. As of today, March 12, the COVID Community Level in Hennepin County Minnesota is LOW. Here is what the CDC says is appropriate behavior when the COVID Community Level is LOW.
“In areas where the COVID-19 Community Level is low—people, households, and communities can take minimal, practical precautions.”
So - that’s not NO precautions. That’s minimal, practical precautions. I would still suggest leaving a venue of someone is showing signs of COVID but for the most part you don’t have to give every stranger on the train side eye for sitting down in the seat next to you. Especially since it’s still required to wear a mask on the light rail.

Gov Walz Announces MN College Registration as part of ‘Kids Deserve a Shot’ See Word Document
Governor Tim Walz has announced the registration form is open for Minnesota parents whose 5- to 11-year-olds receive the COVID-19 vaccine to register for a $100,000 Minnesota college scholarship, the next phase of the “Kids Deserve a Shot” vaccine incentive program.
Any Minnesota parent or guardian whose 5- to 11-year-olds have ever received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine by April 11 can enter to win one of five $100,000 Minnesota College Scholarships. On April 15, the State of Minnesota will hold a drawing for five $100,000 scholarships valid at any public or private non-profit higher educational institution in Minnesota.
Some updates have been made to the Vaccine Data Dashboard. I reviewed the list of changes and the biggest update seems to be that they’ve included a tab for how many people are up to date on their vaccine. Right now up to date is defined as having the appropriate series of vaccination shots followed by the appropriate number of boosters. Of course the number of shots that you need to be up to date depends on the status of your immune system and the initial vaccine that you got. So - since I’m an adult and had Johnson and Johnson - I need that one initial shot and a booster to be up to date. Other people will need more or fewer shots to be up to date.

A paragraph from the story: The Connections Shelter Ministry (CSM), a faith-based homeless shelter organization, worked with Salvation Army, local pharmacies, and low-cost clinics to provide shelter space for quarantine and isolation, testing, and vaccination services. This was welcomed by communities who were "facing many barriers to health care access" and it was a "safe space to quarantine," said Bishop Regina, SE MN Synod of the ELCA. Initially, there was significant resistance among many people experiencing homelessness to get vaccinated, which the staff addressed through continued conversations to address their fears. A resounding success was the number of people experiencing homelessness being vaccinated increasing from 25% in the spring of 2021 to 70% in the fall of 2021, said Pastor Collette Broady Grund.

Today I’m sharing information that was sent to me from The Minnesota Department of Health, CDC, the Cultural, Faith, and Disability Communities COVID-19 Updates list, the MN Immigrant and Refugee Health Announcements list, and The Center for Health Equity.
For this episode we’re going to start with Announcements and then talk through Vaccine Events that are taking place around Minnesota and then finish up with CDC Updates.

Announcements
MAJOR CDC UPDATE

On Feb. 25, 2022, CDC updated their framework for monitoring the level of COVID-19 in communities.
With this new framework, the focus of recommendations is on minimizing severe disease, limiting strain
on the health care system, and enabling those at highest risk to protect themselves against infection and severe disease.
This new framework is called the “COVID-19 Community Level.” It moves beyond looking just at cases
and test positivity to look at factors that reflect the severity of disease – including hospitalizations and
hospital capacity— and helps to determine whether the level of COVID-19 and severe disease are low,
medium, or high in a community.
Knowing the COVID-19 Community Level in your area and your own underlying risk will help you
determine what prevention measures to take. Go to www.CDC.gov to view the County Check Tool
where you can identify your COVID-19 Community Level and the recommended prevention strategies
for your community.
Given this new framework, MDH website content, materials, and guidance will be reviewed and
updated as needed in the coming days.
The COVID-19 Community Level will inform CDC recommendations on prevention measures, like
masking and screening testing in public settings, including schools. And CDC’s recommendations for
layered prevention measures will depend on the COVID-19 Level in the community.
In areas where the COVID-19 Community Level is low—people, households, and communities can take
minimal, practical precautions.
In areas where the COVID-19 Community Level is medium—CDC recommends focusing specific
prevention measures on protecting those at increased risk of severe illness.
In areas where the COVID-19 Community Level is high—layered prevention measures are recommended to avoid overwhelming local hospitals and health care systems by preventing severe illness and death.
Layering prevention means the more steps you take to slow the spread of COVID-19, the safer you will
be.
Regardless of level, people should stay up to date on their vaccines and get tested when needed.

Gov Walz Announces MN College Registration as part of ‘Kids Deserve a Shot’ See Word Document
Governor Tim Walz today announced the registration form is open for Minnesota parents whose 5- to 11-year-olds receive the COVID-19 vaccine to register for a $100,000 Minnesota college scholarship, the next phase of the “Kids Deserve a Shot” vaccine incentive program.
Any Minnesota parent or guardian whose 5- to 11-year-olds have ever received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine by April 11 can enter to win one of five $100,000 Minnesota College Scholarships. On April 15, the State of Minnesota will hold a drawing for five $100,000 scholarships valid at any public or private non-profit higher educational institution in Minnesota.

1 - Accidental Poisoning
Don’t let your kids ingest the COVID tests. You know how kids LOVE to explore things with their mouths. Keep your tests in a cool, dry place that is out of reach of your kids. And I know that some people are on here thinking that that should go without saying but - let’s be real - we’ve all got a lot going on right now and sometimes we need things pointed out to us. So - watch your kids and keep those tests out of reach.
2 - Deaf Blind Workshop put on by the Minnesota Commision of the Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing.

The program erves refugees, asylees, & certain other humanitarian-protected immigrants. Please contact them to determine eligibility. The Family Assisters connect families to community resources like: Employment, ESL courses, Housing Energy assistance, Language access, Navigation, Letter-reading, Health care, Application assistance for public programs, Immigration services, and more.
4 - Public Engagement and Equity Update – Kids Deserve a Shot campaign ends on Feb 28th see attached Word document for more information.
The Kids Deserve a Shot program provides a $200 VISA gift card to kids that get fully vaccinated in the months of January and February.

1 - Summary of recent changes to relating to COVID-19 Vaccine (last updated February 22, 2022):
Added considerations for an 8-week interval between the first and second doses of a primary mRNA vaccine schedule

Key points
COVID-19 vaccines currently approved or authorized by FDA are effective in preventing serious outcomes of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), including severe disease, hospitalization, and death.
COVID-19 primary series vaccination is recommended for everyone ages 5 years and older in the United States for the prevention of COVID-19.
A 3-dose primary mRNA COVID-19 vaccine series is recommended for people ages 5 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised, followed by a booster dose in those ages 12 years and older.
In most situations, Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 Vaccines are preferred over the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine for primary and booster vaccination.
A booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for everyone ages 12 years and older. Timing of a booster dose varies based on COVID-19 vaccine product and immunocompetence.
Efforts to increase the number of people in the United States who are up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines remain critical to preventing illness, hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19.
These clinical considerations provide additional information to healthcare professionals and public health officials on use of COVID-19 vaccines.

2 - Information relating to Adolescent Mental Health
What is already known about this topic?
The proportion of pediatric emergency department (ED) visits for mental health conditions (MHCs) increased during 2020.

What is added by this report?
Weekly ED visits among adolescent females (aged 12–17 years) increased for two mental health conditions (eating and tic disorders) during 2020, four (depression, eating, tic, and obsessive-compulsive disorders) during 2021, and five (anxiety; trauma and stressor-related; eating; tic; and obsessive-compulsive disorders) and overall MHC visits during January 2022, compared with 2019. The proportion of ED visits with eating disorders doubled among adolescent females; those for tic disorders approximately tripled during the pandemic.

What are the implications for public health practice?
Early identification and expanded evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies are critical to improving pediatric mental health, especially among adolescent females, who might have increased need.

Announcements
The MN Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (MNCCD) is partnering with the Minnesota Department of Health to address issues impacting people with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. They’re hosting an event called Let’s Connect on Zoom. ASL and CART services provided. That Zoom meeting will take place on Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 3:00-4:30PM
Minnesota Department of Health announced adjustments to COVID-19 testing network. The Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport testing site has resumed accepting walk-ins, though appointments are recommended. The federally operated testing site at the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will close as scheduled on Feb. 14. MDH has secured the federal testing team for an additional three weeks, and it will take over the testing site at the Anoka Armory beginning Feb. 16 and ending March 8. As of Feb. 16, the Anoka site will offer nasal swab PCR testing instead of saliva PCR testing. It will also offer limited rapid testing.
