If you feel stuck with creating content, it’s usually because you’re not moving. Overthinking leads to under-implementing.</p><p>It’s like how blogging has evolved over the last 10 years. Back when I started Model May I, everyone was sharing everything, just because they wanted to. I was blogging because I got dressed. I wasn’t hunting for content - I WAS the content. Now, I see ladies dressing up and staging things in order to create content, and that just seems backwards. Document what you’re doing and who you are, and you’ll build a content bank that you can always pull from.</p><p>I know you’re ready for the brunch analogy, so here it is. Take a pot of gumbo. You can put pretty much whatever you want in there, but if you don’t take the time to make a perfect roux, you may as well throw the whole thing away. Same thing with your marketing. You can make all the cute reels you want but if your messaging, goals, and target audience aren’t clear, throw the whole business away.</p><p>When you get stuck, here are some things I want you to do.</p><ol><li>Audit your content consumption. Unsubscribe and be more intentional.</li><li>Create how you consume. What content has made an impact on you recently? Your content strategy is the nourishment that your business needs to survive, so stop treating it like a side dish. We’ve been force fed the idea that our content needs to keep up with trends, go viral (big eye roll), hack the algorithm, blah blah blah. This type of marketing can work well for some people, but if you don’t have your messaging solidified on the back end, the exposure of going viral isn’t going to do any good.</p><p>How do your vanity metrics such as likes and followers correlate with your key performance indicators (KPIs)? Oh right, they don’t.</p><p>So. The consumption of content is bottomless… just like brunch!&nbsp;</p><p>I spent my 20s living in New York and we went to brunch every chance we got. There was even a restaurant that had a midnight brunch - same vibe, same music, same chicken and waffles, but in the middle of the night.</p><p>The conversation was filled with so much substance, so much conversation that led to connection, and that’s what your content should do for your business. Even in corporate with their big strategies, the goal was always to tell a story in their content. Whenever you leverage storytelling in a meaningful and impactful way, your audience will crave whatever you are selling.</p><p>Your content needs a few things to really be successful. First thing, it needs to taste and feel good when your audience consumes it. It makes them want to stay. It needs to create a long lasting connection with people, just like what happens at brunch. It needs to have substance. People are tired of fluff. Last thing: it needs to be bottomless. You can’t just do it one-and-done.</p><p>I have a simple framework that I teach my clients to help them build their content strategy: Serve, Sell, Storytell. Hook them with a story, serve them the substance, and then sell them the thing they need to take their life or business to the next level.</p><p>To get started on your Serve, Sell, Storytell, ask yourself these questions:</p><ol><li>What part of my story am I holding back that can really change the lives of my audience or my clients?</li><li>How can sharing this story help your audience?
