EA vs Hellenistic dilemma! - Hey Kirah, Thank you for everything you do! Thank you so much for opening yourself up to questions, I am at a cross roads in my astrological studies, and am hoping you might be able to offer some insight. I’ve been deep in my astrological studies for about 4 years now. My foundation is the astrology podcast. I love Chris Brennan, I love the whole sign house system and I have built myself a successful client base from giving readings using traditional methods and techniques. So for years I have felt very loyal to Hellenistic astrology. However I received a reading from an evolutionary astrologer a year ago that had me sobbing. She streamlined 6 years of therapy into an hour long session and I was shook. Since then I have been studying under the renowned astrologer, and im loving it… but EA is soooo different from traditional astrology and it’s making my head spin ! I’m reluctant to use modern rulership and it feels wrong to use the 12 archetypes to describe the houses. Buttt the use/understanding of Pluto and the nodes in EA feels profoundly invaluable. My question for you is: Is there anything in my chart that indicates if I am better suited to be an evolutionary astrologer vs a Hellenistic astrologer? Thank you! What can someone whose chart ruler is Saturn expect for their Saturn Return?
I’ve had a people pleasing imbalance and with my saturn returning in pisces I know this is something that I need to eventually address. As a highly sensitive person with fibromyalgia I noticed people pleasing creates harm in my body and trust with myself is damaged. What can should I do to prepare myself for this glow-up period?
My Saturn return is ending but I just started the first of two Saturn ruled years... Is it going to feel like two more years of Saturn return?
Can you fail your Saturn Return? I know I have only just come out of my first one, which also included the start of the pandemic. But I have a night chart with Aquarius Saturn in the 9H opposing venus, mars and jupiter so it’s a serious question. Have I caused irreversible damage by not getting things “right”? I failed/dropped out of my last year of an overseas university and had to move back to my home country. I am unemployed, living with my parents and I have just been dumped. I feel these past years caused irreversible damage, so it’s a serious concern. I am used to rock bottom but DAMN. Saturn return got me down bad.
Saturn return, saturn square, sure - but what about the saturn trine? Can we look forward to some good saturnian news? Is that an oxymoron?

Before receiving a scholarship to learn Hellenistic and electional astrology under Chris Brennan, they spent time working in and around the NYC arts and culture space, cutting their teeth as an assistant producer for Afropunk and as a bookseller at Strand Book Store. Wild for vivid stories and expanding language to translate them, djenneba is the lead editor of Mercury’s Brood, the forthcoming astro-literary anthology book funded on Kickstarter. Concerned with the ways that popular understandings of astrology can fail or overlook marginalized experiences, they apply an intersectional black queer feminist lens to both client work and mundane astrology. djenneba is also contributing writer to the love horoscope app CUSP, Buzzfeed’s monthly horoscopes, and is creator of the horoscope newsletter Twelve Questions.

Astrolojohn (any pronouns) is a 24-year-old genderqueer astrologer currently residing in Rhode Island. John’s practice is rooted in traditional Hellenistic and Medieval techniques, mainly under Chris Brennan. Within the four main branches of astrology, their specialties lie in electional and natal astrology. John’s practice aims to center the voices of marginalized communities, and allow for their experiences to be seen, heard, and felt through the language of the stars. This is an hour-long movement ritual practice called Witchdancing, with time for conversation and sharing afterward. This practice asks: what if a dance is also a spell with which we conjure our bodies and the worlds in which they live? In Witchdancing, we move through a continuous series of images, qualities, and states, engaging in a metamorphosis of the body. The movement is improvisational and requires no previous dance experience.
This event is donation based.
As a participant in reparative justice, this event is free to all Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
They ask that all others donate to support the event with a suggested scale of $20-30.

Erin Tack Shipley is a liberation-centered astrologer. She works to help people see themselves clearly and affirm your purpose, without burning out or abusing wellness tools.

Erin provides astrological guidance to socially-conscious individuals through 1:1 counseling, written content, and live workshops. Over the last decade she has worked as an advocate, educator and capacity-builder within multiple intersectional feminist organizations, learning first-hand the challenges that pervade social justice environments. Erin writes about the intersection of wellness and justice because she understands how vital the relationship between them is for liberation - and how often that relationship turns toxic. Most of her clients are bad-ass activists navigating burnout or compassionate healers who are seeking to be more mindful of their capacity to do harm. Erin believes that people doing de-colonial work should have solid support and that wellness leaders should conduct their practices with conscious integrity. She understands that being well and being free are inherently linked - and we need both to belong and affect change for a better world.

Erin lives and works on unceded and occupied Native Popeloutchom (Amah Mutsun), Awaswas and Ohlone Land (also known as Santa Cruz, California). Her work is deeply influenced by my peers and colleagues as well as living healers, educators and activists such as Rachael Rice, Toi Smith, Carmen Spagnola, Bayo Akomolafe, adrienne maree brown, Eryn Wise, Jen Lemen, Joanna Macy, Donna Haraway and Layli Maparyan.

She is currently working on an astrological research project to help clients and astrologers alike better navigate the impact of environmental and systemic collapse. In this research she is paying special attention to cadent houses and spaces in the chart on the declining side of the angles. My orientation is firmly rooted in Traditional and Hellenistic Astrology with the goal of ultimately developing a technique designed to support people in moments of enormous urgency. She will likely open a second round of research consults in the summer of this year.

Zacchary Powell is a Black Queer Astrologer currently based in Philadelphia who graduated in 2013 with a degree in political science and sociology, focused on the intersection of race, politics, inequality, and constitutional law. Along with his client work, he is the Communications Manager for Fresh Voices in Astrology; the Board Secretary for Association for Young Astrologers; a student of Kelly Surtees, Austin Coppock, and Chris Brennan; and a practicing astro-mage (to be clear, we STAN Venus). Prior to making the glorious leap to become a professional astrologer, he worked in the fashion industry for a number of years; served as a policy analyst for a civil rights non-profit working to make structural changes to increase access to clean, safe, and affordable housing; and managed the Manhattan office of a top marketing consulting firm.

Jason also teaches a graduate-level continuing education program for therapists drawing on the astrological tradition in their work, as well as several experiential astrology groups using methods such as psychodrama, art-making, and poetry.
