For Joe Patneaude, the answer required one of the hardest leadership decisions of his career: stepping away from the corporate world after decades in financial services, including senior C-suite leadership roles, and redefining what success and identity meant to him.

Joe began his career in the mailroom of a mutual fund company and worked his way into senior leadership, eventually serving in roles including Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. Along the way, he also built financial practices, an insurance agency, an adult education business, and other ventures.

But eventually, something changed.

Joe realized that what energized him most throughout his career wasn't the title, the paycheck, or even the business itself. It was helping other people learn, grow, and become more successful.

For Terence Chatmon, one of the most difficult decisions of his career was ultimately about purpose, impact, and what he wanted his leadership to accomplish.

After building a senior career in corporate America—including leadership experience with Johnson & Johnson, Citibank, and Coca-Cola—Terence made the decision to leave a highly successful corporate path and devote himself to a very different mission: helping families flourish by equipping parents to raise and disciple their children.

One of his earliest lessons came when he had multiple job offers after graduating from the University of Illinois. That is the leadership decision Aasha LaCount faced.

Aasha is the Founder & CEO of Beyond EQ, where she works with leaders and organizations on emotional intelligence, leadership performance, decision-making, and the human factors that can affect business performance.
