We had a powerful Pentecost Sunday with a wonderful message from Senior Leader, Duncan Smith, on “The Empowerment of the Holy Spirit.” While religion often focuses on what we can do for God, Christianity is about what God has done for us, particularly through Jesus’s sacrifice and the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. Drawing on John 7:37-39, Smith highlights Jesus’ promise that believers would be filled with "rivers of living water," symbolizing the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ death and resurrection provides believers with the Holy Spirit, enabling us to live in union with Christ and perform acts empowered by the same Spirit. We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit, which can be likened to new wine that requires new wineskins. This emphasizes transformation and renewal. Embrace this empowerment and allow it to visibly change your lives and witness.

Reading from John 21, we see Jesus standing on the shore, calling out to Peter and the six other disciples to come and have breakfast with Him. It’s a powerful story of Jesus seeking out Peter who has returned to what he’s always known and restoring him back into fellowship, forgiving him, and calling out purpose and destiny in Peter. God uses the lowest moments of our lives to reveal His greatest love for us. Despite the letdowns and shame that we carry, God wants to call us back into fellowship with Him and remind us that there is destiny after the disappointment.

Even if you deserve what is going on in your life, the Father does not desire that for you. There will always be trials and tribulations. It all depends on how you handle them with your attitude and perspective. Let peace overtake worry, let confidence overtake fear, and let joy overtake sadness. Cycles can never be broken in your own strength. Silence is never the solution. Jesus is the answer! He is with you in every mistake and every lapse of judgment. He will never leave you. He has defeated sin and has given us the victory. There is hope! It is never too late. Expose whatever is holding you back, repent, and pursue the Lord with every fiber, every breath, and every thought of your being. Don’t wait, just reset. ACTION It is a new year, Hallelujah. Take time to repent and draw close to the Lord. Let Him reset and refresh you for this new year. PRAYER Lord, I am sorry for all of the ways I have fallen short of following You. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45 We can gain the whole world and lose our soul. Materialism runs our culture, but we are called to be in the world and not of it. Where is your heart? Living for Jesus requires dying daily to the things of the world. When we sacrifice for Jesus we cultivate heavenly treasure. This treasure is not our motivation, Jesus is. He is the best gift we can ever receive. Treasure Him. ACTION Check your heart with these questions: ∙ If you could be in Heaven without Jesus would you go? ∙ What do you talk about? And how do you talk to others? ∙ Is your heart in the right place? PRAYER Lord, I give You my heart. Help me to see Your value, Jesus. Let how You treasure me, awaken my desire for You. Open my eyes to the kingdom of Heaven. Calibrate me to operate in Your will. If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:7-11 A father loves to lavish his children with gifts. Abba wants to bless us more than we can ever ask, think, or imagine. We are blessed beyond measure. To pursue Him we need to ask where to go. To commit to His plans we need to knock with confidence. He wants to answer us with love. It might not be what we want to hear or the route we want to go, but He knows what is best. Trust Him. He is worth the pursuit. Pursue Him! ACTION Think about what to ask for, what to seek for, and what to knock for in your life. Pursue Him with whatever you come up with! PRAYER Father, give me what to ask. Give me what to desire. I am a child of God. Forgive me from any pride or arrogance that makes me think I can do everything by myself. Help me to depend on You. Help me to pursue You with my whole heart. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 Why do we worry? Is it because of inadequacy, second-guessing, fear of man, or something else? The verses today hold the keys to overcoming worry. When we do not have it figured out, or it seems hopeless, just pray. Pray with a posture of gratitude and simply let the Lord know how you are feeling. Thank Him for His goodness, and His perfect leadership. Through doing all of this His perfect peace that surpasses anything you can do will cover and guard both your heart and your mind. You will be sustained by His peace and free from worry or anxiousness because you trust Him. A C T I O N Gratitude is a theme in a lot of these devotionals. Wear it like a coat. Focus on who He is and what He is doing in your life and everything else will fall into place. PRAYER Lord, you know my situation, you know what I have been praying for, and you know my family and friends that need you. Father, I trust You with all of these things that I worry about. Anything that causes me to stress, I trust You with them. Thank you, Lord for being my rock and my sure foundation. Thank You for taking care of me. He is our sustainer. The well that never runs dry. He is more than enough. Emulate Jesus to be satisfied. Pursue Him. Be His hands and feet, be His mouthpiece, be His joy, and peace. Let our affection and our devotion flow from the depths of our heart and soul. This life cultivates the destiny God placed inside each one of us. Grow us to be grounded and sustained by Your love. Take time to truly just rest, not worry, and be stress-free. Let His peace restore your soul. Take a drink of His presence. Take a drink of living water. There is more than enough. Feast and have your fill. Abide in Him. He will lead you just like a toddler on dad’s feet. One step after the other. I am not in a hurry. Holy Spirit, lead me! Psalm 23:4-5 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18 Do not be afraid, fear not, or some variation of that is in the Bible over 100 times. Fear is the opposite of love. When you really look at fear it is operating in a lack of something. Sometimes a lack of knowledge, lack of strength, and a lack of trust. Look at David and Goliath, in any normal circumstance he should have been afraid, but he had no fear because the Lord was with Him. David had to rely on God or he would have died. Trust the Father with your life. Let His perfect love complete you. Like oil from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. Let the overflow of His presence distinguish all fear in your life. ACTION What is a valley that the Lord is helping you walk through? Feel free to write this down somewhere. PRAYER Lord, thank you for not giving me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Thank you for being with me through the hills and the valleys. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 The light of the world lives inside of us and sometimes we hide it. We put it under a basket or we even put a blanket over it. You are the light of the world. Everyone is drawn to the life of Christ you live. When we follow Jesus it brings us out of darkness and into His marvelous light. A light that purifies us as well as keeps us warm. Draw closer to Him. He is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path, He guides us while dispersing darkness. The Father deserves all the glory, honor, and praise. Shine bright, there is nothing to hide, darkness can’t stand the light of the world. ACTION Be the light of the world by delighting in Him. Let that joy be your strength to impact somebody around you today. PRAYER Lord, I am a vessel of light. Nothing can contain this marvelous light. Help me to shine to everyone despite my preferences. Matthew 6:12-13 We owe God everything because he paid our debt in full through Jesus Christ. Everything we have done or will ever do has been forgiven. The Father does not hold any grudges. It is forgiven. The only thing we are called to do in the Lord’s prayer is to forgive others. This forgiveness should be grounded in us so much so that it naturally flows towards others because of our love for Him. He is our protector and our deliverer. If we ever feel trapped, He will save us. He holds all power and the enemy has been defeated. ACTION Take a minute to thank God for everything that He has forgiven in your life. In addition, if there is any unforgiveness, take some time to address that and forgive. PRAYER Father, I owe you my life. Forgive me for anything I have done that goes against your design for me. Bring to mind people that I need to forgive. Help me to be quick to forgive. Thank you for your protection over my life. We tend to fill ourselves with all forms of entertainment and dialogue. And through all of that, the Father wants your undivided attention because He is so in love with you. Draw near, He is waiting.
