Happy Gilmore 2, the 2025 Netflix sequel to Adam Sandler’s 1996 cult hit, reunites the beloved comedic golf underdog with original stars like Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, and Ben Stiller while introducing new faces including Bad Bunny and a host of modern golf pros. Directed by Kyle Newacheck and co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, the film follows a now-widowed, down-and-out Happy Gilmore—a recovering alcoholic and former Tour Champion—who returns to the green to finance his daughter’s coveted ballet education in Paris. The Time That Remains, a 2009 semi-biographical drama written and directed by Elia Suleiman, chronicles Palestinian life under Israeli occupation from the Nakba of 1948 through to the present via a stylized, episodic narrative rooted in Suleiman’s own family history. Drawing from his father’s resistance-fighter diaries and his mother’s letters to exiled relatives, the film unfolds across a series of deadpan vignettes marked by dry humor, minimalist dialogue, and elegant visual tableaux reminiscent of Jacques Tati and Buster Keaton. Suleiman inserts himself as a silent, observant presence—his restrained performance a pointed expression of emotional and cultural endurance—portraying daily realities that are both absurd and deeply affecting. Rosa reviews 2025's 'Materialists', an American romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Celine Song. The film stars Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. Set against the backdrop of New York City's luxury-driven dating culture, it follows a love triangle between a matchmaker, her aspiring actor ex-boyfriend, and a charming millionaire. The project marks Song's second feature following Past Lives, and continues her exploration of intimacy, identity, and modern relationships.

We then talk about '964 Pinocchio', released in the United Kingdom as 'Screams of Blasphemy', a 1991 Japanese cyberpunk-horror film directed by Shozin Fukui. It deals with themes such as autonomy, memory, love between outsiders, brain-modified sex-slaves as well as mental breakdowns in a hallucinogenic thrill-ride. It is widely considered as one of the best examples of the underground Japanese Cyberpunk genre.

Rosa and Kite review 2025's 'Phoenician Scheme' an espionage dark comedy film produced, written and directed by Wes Anderson from a story he conceived with Roman Coppola. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, Hope Davis, F. Murray Abraham, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Willem Dafoe, and Bill Murray.

We then review 'Pride', a 2014 historical comedy-drama film written by Stephen Beresford and directed by Matthew Warchus. Based on a true story, it depicts a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the British miners' strike in 1984, at the outset of what would become the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners campaign. It was screened as part of the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Queer Palm award.

It is the direct sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) and the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible film series. The film stars Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, alongside an ensemble cast including Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett.[8][9] In the film, Hunt and his Impossible Mission Force team work to prevent the Entity, a rogue AI, from unleashing global destruction against humanity.

We also review 'I, Robot' (stylized as i, ROBOT) is a 2004 American science fiction action film directed by Alex Proyas. The screenplay by Jeff Vintar and Akiva Goldsman is from a screen story by Vintar, based on his original screenplay Hardwired, and named after Isaac Asimov's 1950 short-story collection. The film stars Will Smith in the main role, alongside Bridget Moynahan, Bruce Greenwood, James Cromwell, Chi McBride, and Alan Tudyk, as the robot, Sonny.

Rosa and Kite Unajoy review 2025's 'Friendship', an American black comedy film written and directed by Andrew DeYoung in his directorial debut. The film centers on Craig, a socially awkward marketing executive who yearns to be friends with his new neighbor Austin, a charismatic but unfulfilled weatherman. It had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2024, as part of the festival's Midnight Madness program. It was theatrically released in the United States by A24 in limited release on May 9, 2025, before opening wide on May 23.

We then review 'Suzanne’s Fugue' (La fugue de Suzanne), a 1974 Jean-Marie Buchet directed film - "Suzanne has had enough of her boyfriend Albert. The drama unfolds in fifteen tableaux, in which she goes over to Albert's friend Emile. Still, these romantic worries go hand in hand with insatiable boredom."

Lastly, we talk 'In the Name of the Father'a 1993 biographical crime drama film co-written and directed by Jim Sheridan. It is based on the true story of the Guildford Four, four people falsely convicted of the 1974 Guildford pub bombings that killed four off-duty British soldiers and a civilian. The screenplay was adapted by Terry George and Jim Sheridan from the 1990 autobiography Proved Innocent: The Story of Gerry Conlon of the Guildford Four by Gerry Conlon.

It follows the life of Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, a Los Angeles slacker and avid bowler. He is assaulted as a result of mistaken identity then learns that a millionaire, also named Jeffrey Lebowski, was the intended victim. The millionaire Lebowski's trophy wife is supposedly kidnapped and millionaire Lebowski commissions The Dude to deliver the ransom to secure her release.

'Max, My Love' - a 1986 comedy film directed by Nagisa Ōshima, starring Charlotte Rampling, Anthony Higgins, Victoria Abril, Pierre Étaix and Milena Vukotic. The screenplay was written by Ōshima and Jean-Claude Carrière, and the film was produced by Serge Silberman. It is about a woman having an affair with a chimpanzee.

We then talk about 'Black Bag' - a 2025 American spy thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by David Koepp. It stars Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan and follows a British intelligence officer tasked with investigating a list of possible traitors, one of whom is his wife. The film was released in France on March 12, 2025, by Universal Pictures, and two days later in the United States by Focus Features. It received critical acclaim and grossed $38.4 million on a budget of $50–60 million, becoming box office disappointment.

Rosa is joined by Xiyn from Rose Media to talk about 2025's 'Warfare' a 2025 war film written and directed by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland. Based on Mendoza's experiences during the Iraq War as a U.S. Navy SEAL, the film depicts an encounter he and his platoon experienced on November 19, 2006 in the wake of the Battle of Ramadi. To maintain historical accuracy, the film's material is exclusively taken from the testimonies of the platoon members, and is presented in real time. It stars an ensemble cast that includes D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai as Mendoza, alongside Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Joseph Quinn, Charles Melton, Noah Centineo, and Michael Gandolfini.

We then talk about 'Paths of Glory' a 1957 American anti-war film directed by Stanley Kubrick, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Calder Willingham and Jim Thompson. It is adapted from the 1935 novel of the same name by Humphrey Cobb, which was in turn was based on the Souain corporals affair during World War I. The film stars Kirk Douglas as Colonel Dax, the commanding officer of French soldiers who refuse to continue a suicidal attack, after which Dax defends them against charges of cowardice in a court-martial.

It was produced by The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend, and distributed by The Daily Wire and Voltage Pictures. The film follows a family of pioneers as they defend themselves from a gang of outlaws on the Montana plains. The film features the cast of Gina Carano as Hattie McAllister, Donald Cerrone as Jeb McAllister, and Nick Searcy starring as The Captain, with Rhys Jackson Becker, Gabriel-Kane Day Lewis, Tyler Fischer, Heath Freeman, Samaire Armstrong, and Matthias Hues all featured in supporting roles.

We then review 'The Monkey' a 2025 American black comedy horror film written and directed by Osgood Perkins. Based on Stephen King's 1980 short story, the film stars Theo James in a dual role as twin brothers whose lives are turned upside down by a cursed toy monkey that causes random horrific deaths around them. Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O'Brien, Rohan Campbell, Sarah Levy, Adam Scott, and Elijah Wood also star.

It was directed by Jared Hess and written by Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener, Gavin James, and Chris Galletta, from a story by Allison Schroeder, Bowman, and Palmer. The film stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen. In the film, four misfits are pulled through a portal into a cubic world, and must embark on a quest back to the real world with the help of an expert crafter named Steve.

We then review 'The Dictator' a 2012 political satire black comedy film co-written by and starring Sacha Baron Cohen in his fourth feature film in a leading role. The film was directed by Larry Charles, who also directed Baron Cohen's mockumentaries Borat and Brüno. Baron Cohen, in the role of Admiral General Aladeen, the dictator of the fictional Republic of Wadiya visiting the United States, stars alongside Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, and Jason Mantzoukas, with uncredited appearances by John C.

A reboot of The Wolf Man franchise, the film stars Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, and Sam Jaeger. The plot follows a family man seeking to protect his wife and daughter from a werewolf, only to become infected and slowly transform into the creature. Jason Blum produces alongside his Blumhouse Productions banner. We then discuss 'I'm Still Here' (Ainda Estou Aqui), a 2024 political biographical drama film directed by Walter Salles from a screenplay by Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega, based on Marcelo Rubens Paiva's 2015 memoir of the same name. It stars Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Montenegro as Eunice Paiva, a mother and activist coping with the forced disappearance of her husband, the dissident politician Rubens Paiva (Selton Mello), during the military dictatorship in Brazil. Lastly, we talk 'Bulworth', a 1998 American political satire black comedy film co-written, co-produced, directed by, and starring Warren Beatty. It co-stars Halle Berry, Oliver Platt, Don Cheadle, Paul Sorvino, Jack Warden, and Isaiah Washington. The film follows the title character, California Senator Jay Billington Bulworth (Beatty), as he runs for re-election while trying to avoid a hired assassin.

It stars Adrien Brody as a Hungarian-Jewish Holocaust survivor who immigrates to the United States, where he struggles to achieve the American Dream until a wealthy client changes his life. We also review 'Conclave', a 2024 political thriller film directed by Edward Berger, focusing on the secretive process of electing a new pope after the death of the previous one. The film features a cast including Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci, and it explores the intrigue and scandals among the cardinals involved in the election process. Lastly we review 'Hard Boiled', a 1992 Hong Kong action thriller film directed by John Woo from a screenplay by Gordon Chan and Barry Wong based on a story written by Woo. The film stars Chow Yun-fat, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, and Anthony Wong.

Based on the 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric! by Elijah Wald, the film portrays Dylan through his earliest folk music success until the momentous controversy over his use of electric instruments at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. We also discuss 'Memoir of a Snail' a 2024 Australian adult stop-motion animated tragicomedy film written, produced and directed by Adam Elliot. It stars the voices of Sarah Snook, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Eric Bana, Magda Szubanski, Dominique Pinon, Tony Armstrong, Paul Capsis, Nick Cave, and Jacki Weaver. Lastly, we review 'The Wages of Fear' a 1953 thriller film directed and co-written by Henri-Georges Clouzot, and starring Yves Montand, Charles Vanel, Peter van Eyck and Véra Clouzot. Joku and Rosa review and analyze 'The People's Joker' a 2022 / 2024 American parody superhero film directed by Vera Drew, and written by Vera Drew and Bri LeRose. The film unofficially parodies characters from the Batman comics, and the main character is a transgender woman based on the Joker, played by Drew. The film also features Scott Aukerman, Tim Heidecker, Maria Bamford, David Liebe Hart, Robert Wuhl, and Bob Odenkirk in supporting roles. We also review 'Nosferatu' a 2024 American gothic horror film written and directed by Robert Eggers. It is a remake of F. W. Murnau's 1922 film Nosferatu, itself inspired by Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula. The film stars Bill Skarsgård as the vampire Nosferatu and Nicholas Hoult and Lily-Rose Depp as the married Hutter couple, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe in supporting roles. We also review and discuss 'Crash' a 1996 Canadian erotic thriller film written, produced and directed by David Cronenberg, based on J. G. Ballard's 1973 novel of the same name. Starring James Spader, Deborah Kara Unger, Elias Koteas, Holly Hunter and Rosanna Arquette, it follows a film producer who, after surviving a car crash, becomes involved with a group of symphorophiliacs who are aroused by car crashes and tries to rekindle his sexual relationship with his wife.

We also review and discuss 'Workingman's Death' a 2005 Austrian-German documentary film written and directed by Michael Glawogger. It premiered at the 2005 Venice Film Festival. The film deals with the extremes to which workers go to earn a living in several countries around the world. The film is composed of six chapters.

We also review and analyze 'Balladonna of Sadness' a 1973 Japanese animated surrealist art film produced by the animation studio Mushi Production and distributed by Nippon Herald Films. It follows the story of Jeanne, a peasant woman who makes a faustian deal with the devil after she is assaulted by the local nobility on the night of her wedding day.

Sonny and Sal attempt a bank heist which quickly turns sour and escalates into a hostage situation and stand-off with the police. As Sonny’s motives for the robbery are slowly revealed and things become more complicated, the heist turns into a media circus.
