Opportunities of the Internet for the good news of Jesus

Part 1: The internet is like a new Pax Romana, and for reason, Christians have not really understood its potential or have used it to its fullest. I am not sure how long the internet will remain open, and I am not of the opinion that it is inevitable, and eternal, as it is certainly the case that governments can restrict, censor and block the internet if they choose to.

Part 2: I see it as a way to clearly, regularly, and decisively proclaim the good news about Jesus, whom I believe is the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity, the Saviour of the world, the Lamb of God, the presence, the power, and the person of God

Part 3: We are to We are to ‘encourage one another daily,’ and Jesus for Busy People is my way of encouraging you, and if God permits, I will do so until I am called home, because I see this as my calling, to present to you, and to others, a daily reflection on the life of Jesus as we live out our busy lives.

Part 4: I am not interested in a rambling podcast, or a long sermon, as I don’t believe these fit our times, or our needs. I have to date, crafted many messages, and most of them are on a theme, or a series, and so over the course of the years, they will cover, rather comprehensively, the person of Jesus, so we might know him better, and in knowing him, know ourselves and truly appreciate the good news for it is good, and it is the message we need to hear today. We all matter to God, and we all need to follow Jesus.

Challenges of the Internet for the good news of Jesus

Part 1: In a way, the internet has changed nothing. People often lose interest in something and something new comes along. In the past, there have always been fake experts, snake-oil salesmen, or in ancient times, false prophets. Cancel culture is also not new, as politics has often condemned those outside the narrative. In the past, the unapproved were killed, or imprisoned, but these days, they are simply deplatformed, demonetized, and denounced. The use of A.I. for nefarious purposes is simply a new form of propaganda and that has been around for centuries.

Part 2: The path forward in presenting the good news is simply to provide a daily reflection on the life of Jesus, in audio form, for busy people, and this will, God willing, become a way to encourage people to follow Jesus, as we journey together to see the authenticity, the identity, the spirituality, and the freedom of Jesus, the presence, the power, and the person of God

Why Jesus Matters Everyday

Part 1: Churches have lost authenticity, authority, and relevance in a rapidly changing capitalism system. That is, essentially, the problem. Western capitalism is now bearing fruit. It is a bumper crop. We have had several generations that have produced crops of consumerism, materialism, and narcissism in the past, but nothing like today. The branches are laden with fruit, so heavy that they are struggling to stay upright. The fruit of our society is not goodness, love, or mercy, for these are the poisons in our capitalist system. They will kill it, and the prosperity with it, and so we do all we can to extinguish them.

Part 2: On one level, the internet is just another platform for the dissemination of information, and another place to craft a message, and a medium to transfer values. Many see the internet as the first vehicle or transmitter in history to do this, but it is just the latest, and one day, the internet itself will be obsolete and overtaken, perhaps because of WW3 and coming censorship wars.

Part 3: We live in an age of incredible prosperity, and during such times, it is usually the case that true spirituality, true faith, and true faithfulness to God takes a big hit. Wealth was for Jesus a warning sign of the potential for spiritual apostasy (Matthew 6: 24). His brother, James, devotes much of his letter taking on the wealthy in Christian communities. The teachings of Jesus and James, as well as Paul, John and Peter, echo the prophets of the Hebrew Bible and their teachings on wealth, such as Amos, and Malachi.

Part 4: The message is the same, the presence, the person, and the power of God, Jesus. In our prosperity, we have distracted ourselves from the inevitability of eternity.

Part 1: My name is Michael J. Sutton, and I am the founder of Freedom Matters Today, looking at freedom from a Christian perspective. My background was in academic research, and then theological study and pastoral work. When the pandemic struck, I joined the freedom movement, opposing lockdowns, mandates and vaccine passports.

Part 2: Imagine having a short chat with someone about one aspect of the life of Jesus, with one main point, something to ponder and leave with your friend as you go about your day, something true, something grounded in the Bible, something authentic about the life and significance of Jesus.
