You look at it, and obviously it’s gamesmanship. You’re never going to say that. You’re not going to give Georgia any leads whatsoever. If Kirby Smart is smart, which I’m pretty sure Kirby Smart is pretty smart defensive guy, he’s going to prepare for Anthony Richardson to be the starter. Obviously, he knows both quarterbacks pretty well, and he even said that, Kirby did. I get it.

The issue becomes, and we’re going to get into this more after we talk to Eric, but the issue becomes when you get this far down the road that you really are, everything you say is scrutinized to a tee and picked apart to a tee. You’re in a no-win situation. I feel like that’s where he’s at. I think he could tell us the sky was blue, and we’d argue with him.

David: It’s rightfully so though. He brought it onto himself.

Andrew: Agreed.

David: You can’t sit here and recruit lackluster all year and then on top of that, we’ll get into some other recruiting and all that towards the end of this podcast, but you can’t lackluster recruit. You can’t have an anemic defense two years in a row. You can’t lose games you shouldn’t lose, especially whether it’s by three, seven, or two points. It doesn’t matter. You can’t lose games that you’re not supposed to lose. Good coaches close out close games, whether they’re playing Alabama or they’re playing an LSU team that’s hobbled with 30 players. Good coaches, elite coaches, close out close games. You can’t do that on a consistent basis without getting some sort of criticism for it.

Andrew: Agreed.

David: We’ll get into it later on. Dan, the same energy Dan has, you can see it starting to wear on him a little bit.

Andrew: Right.

David: You’re wondering now what’s his response going to be? Is his response going to be it’s going to be the same thing each week, next week, the week after, evaluate this, evaluate that? Or is he going to take another step and say, I need to prove all these people wrong, the pressure’s too much, I need to do something, and then maybe accelerate that into the Jacksonville game? Maybe just start Richardson to begin with and see how he does.

Andrew: I was listening to someone today. If you start Richardson, and Richardson pulls a shoe out of his hat and wins the game, people are going to be pissed that he hasn’t played all year.

David: Don’t say shoe around here.

Andrew: Whatever. Pull a bone out of a dog. Whatever. Still, if that happens. Again, Dan’s put himself in this position that it is. Everything is scrutinized. He’s 4-6 in his last 10 ballgames. That’s the same thing that Jim McElwain and Will Muschamp were when they got fired.

David: That’s pretty bad.

Andrew: The difference is those two guys got fired with really good recruiting classes coming in. Dan’s recruiting class, and we’re going to talk about this more, but Shemar James decommitted. That was their highest rated guy.

David: It’s falling apart.

Andrew: Probably going to go to Georgia. This class isn’t looking great.

David: No.

Andrew: Where are you planning to go from good to elite? I was reading a story on Wednesday, and they said you can out scheme teams and win eight and nine games, maybe even 10. You can’t out scheme yourself for 12 wins, 13 wins.

David: No.

Andrew: You can’t. Here’s the thing. It has shown. As our man, Wunderlich said, the margin of error for Dan Mullen is zero.

David: You have to be perfect with that roster that you have right now. You have to have no injuries, nothing going on. You don’t have good quality depth. You don’t have elite depth. Who’s going to step in if one of the offensive linemen gets hurt? Who’s going to step in if a corner gets hurt, like Jason Marshall or Kaiir Elam? Who’s stepping in there? You don’t have good quality elite depth. Then you went to the portal to try to band-aid that, and now you got Elijah Blades out of here.

Andrew: Right.

David: Who do you have?

Andrew: You look at it. We’re going to bring on Eric in just a second, after this point real quick.

David: We’ll get into it later.

Andrew: My last point on this is this. Alabama, for instance. Let’s just talk Alabama. The Florida game, their worst game of the year probably. They found a way to win. Great talent. You look at teams when things go wrong, and they’re able to still win games. When things go wrong for Florida, they lose, because they don’t have enough depth to just overcome it. They don’t have enough star power to overcome it. A lot of teams, great teams, can figure out a way to overcome eight penalties. Guess what? They have enough star-studded athletes. They can convert 3rd and 15.

David: You kind of saw it in the LSU game. You have one star, which a quarterback makes a huge difference. Don’t get me wrong. You can be depleted of skill level talent, if you have a good quarterback. You saw it in the LSU game. LSU, they were going to blow us out of the water, until Anthony Richardson stepped in. He’s one of those guys that is a good skill level athlete, but who do you have after? What if Anthony Richardson gets hurt? We got Emory Jones. I’m not trying to trash Emory Jones. Anthony Richardson is leaps and bounds better than Emory Jones, from what I’ve saw. If he gets hurt, who do you have?

Andrew: Here’s the thing I want to say. Emory Jones would be a lot better with last year’s football talent. With Kyle Pitts, Kadarius Toney, Emory Jones would look really good. The talent surrounding him is not good. Let’s go. Let’s talk to Eric, David. We’ll talk some basketball, some Mike White. Maybe Eric can cheer everybody up with some Mike White talk.

David: I don’t know about that.

Andrew: Yeah. They may surprise some people.

David: Maybe some other basketball talk.

Andrew: We’ll get Eric. We’ll talk the basketball, and then we’ll come back, and we’re going to break down that video you had on Twitter.

David: Let’s do it, man. Folks, we have on Eric Fawcett, basketball expert over here at GatorCountry.com, covers the Gators basketball team for us in every facet of the game. With all the bad news going on in Gator football, come shed some light on the Gator basketball team for us and give us some good news.

Andrew: Bring us some good news, Eric.

David: Good news. We need good news.

Andrew: We’re over here talking bad about losing to LSU and Kentucky. Bring us some good news, my man. Is Florida going to beat Florida State this year?

Eric: That’s a tough one. You know what, both kind of my general thoughts on the team and what will happen against Florida State are a little bit tied in here. The first thing I’ll say is if you’re looking for an optimistic way of looking at this Florida basketball team, the first thing to look at is that it really does look like a team that’s very different than the Gator teams of these last couple of years.

What I mean by that is you look at the last couple of years, and there’s been a couple of returning players that the Gators like, whether that was KeVaughn Allen and Chris Chiozza or Kerry Blackshear or last year with Keyontae Johnson. Of course, it didn’t turn out that way, but with Keyontae Johnson and Tre Mann. All those teams had a couple returning pieces that you liked, but then there was a whole lot of young players, fairly highly thought of recruits, that were going to be really heavily relied on. What we have kind of seen with the last couple years is if you rely on young players, that’s just often not going to work in college basketball, where everyone is trying to get older and more experienced.

You look at this year’s Florida team, and they’ve got a hell of a five-star recruit in Kowacie Reeves , who I love a whole lot, 6’7” shotmaker, but you know he’s going to have to be relied upon, because the Gators have Colin Castleton coming back. They have Tyree Appleby coming back as a fifth-year point guard, Anthony Duruji coming back as a fifth-year player. Then all the graduate transfers they’re bringing in, that I’m sure we’ll get to, Brandon McKissic and Myreon Jones and Phlandrous Fleming and CJ Felder. They have a bunch of players that are older, have already shown that they can contribute, a couple of them at the high major level, a couple of them just at a high level at some lower leagues.

Again, I just look at this Florida team, and it looks a lot different than these last couple of years, where Florida was going to need to get a whole lot of production from some very young players, and banking on that in college basketball, not just at Florida but around the entire sport, that has a recipe for experience. You can really look at them in a little bit of a different way than some of these past teams.

As that relates to Florida State, one thing that’s nice is that the Gators get to play Florida State in the second game of the season. You look at Florida. They are definitely the more experienced team. More new younger pieces for Florida State. They’ve got a lot of talent. They’ve got some really good recruits coming in, some good younger transfers, but Florida is the older team. So, I think when you look at a game that’s being played second game of the season, oftentimes those matchups are going to benefit the more experienced team.

That’s also I’ll say part of the reason why Florida State has really dominated the rivalry recently was because Florida State was always the older team, and then Florida’s bringing all these young players first or second game of the season. The Gators don’t know how to play together yet, and Florida State just comes out and blitzes them. I don’t think that’s going to be the case. If Florida is going to catch Florida State, it’s probably going to be this team, with the much older more experienced roster.

Andrew: Two-part question for you. A, can Florida go more than seven or eight deep, like they were last year, where it seemed like it was a limited group? Then based off of what you know, who do you think roles out as that starting five?

Eric: This has been a good question. There’s the starting five that I think would be the best five, and then the starting five that I think Mike White is going to play, just kind of based off what he has done in the past.

Andrew: Can you give him the starting five that’s going to win games? That’s what we want, Eric.

Eric: This is the starting five that I think will win games. Starting at point guard I’d have Tyree Appleby, fifth-year player. We saw him do pretty well next to Tre Mann last year, and now he’s going to be a lot more suited to his skillset, so I think we see a big year out of him. I see Myreon Jones, the Penn State transfer, 15 points a game, proven high major guy, at shooting guard. I see Kowacie Reeves, the five-star freshman, 6’7” shotmaker, at small forward. I see CJ Felder, 6’7” physical power forward, unlike anyone that the Gators have really had on their roster recently and a proven ACC player, played in one of the best leagues in college basketball the last two years. Proved he can contribute at a high level. I see him at power forward. And I see Colin Castleton, of course, preseason first team All-SEC, at center.

The lineup that I think the Gators are going to play, just based off of what Mike White normally does. Tyree Appleby at point guard. Brandon McKissic, UMKC transfer, combo guard, smaller guy, can really defend at the point of attack, shoots threes, and then I would say Myreon Jones at the three. That would be three 6’3” and under guards on the perimeter. Then I would see Anthony Duruji at the four. Mike White has always loved playing smaller, kind of more stretchy guys at the four than traditional power forwards. Then Colin Castleton at the five.

That’s the five I’m expecting to see when they open the season against Elon. I mentioned the starting five that I think is going to kind of emerge as the best one by the end of the season. You know what, Andrew, this is very easily the most depth that a Mike White team has had. As much as I say this is the starting five I think should happen, and this is the starting five I think is going to happen, I don’t hate the starting five I think Mike White is going to roll out. Let’s just roll with the starting five that I think Mike White’s going to roll out.

Andrew: Do you think that helps get to the pace of play Mike White wants to play?

Eric: It certainly helps. Florida would have 488 total yards. Zero penalties. We got onto penalties the last two weeks. Zero penalties, 488 yards of offense, and still manages to lose the game by seven points.

Andrew:It’s one step forward, two steps backwards. It’s every time with this program, David. This program will fix one issue, and another issue arises. It was like last year. They would fix the run defense, pass defense sucked. Then they’d fix the pass defense in practice, and the run defense would suck. They’re fixing penalties now, guess what? Now they can’t run the ball, because the guys can’t get off the ball. Ethan White and Gouraige were whipped all day long.

David:They were.

Andrew:By BJ Ojulari and Glen Logan. Ojulari had a career day against Gouraige. Multiple times just flying by him. Gouriage not even touching him. Maybe Gouriage isn’t 100%. I don’t know. But the physicality of this football team, David, from Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3, is gone. There’s no physicality to this football team anymore. I don’t know what went on after that Tennessee game, but whatever went wrong after that Tennessee game, whatever has happened to this team, it’s gone. The physicality of this football team is gone. There’s no more physicality up front from this offensive line to where they’re getting to the second. They’re getting to the third level, and they’re just pushing people around. It’s gone. This team threw for 350 yards on Saturday. That’s great. That’s absolutely great, but that’s not the identity of this football team.

David:No. Florida historically has had great defenses in the past, and right now Florida has broken defensive records last year that were bad. Not this year they’re breaking even more defensive records that are bad, and this is all ever since Todd Grantham’s got here. If you go to Todd Grantham’s history, let me get started on Todd Grantham. Look at his history at Louisville, at Georgia, at all these other schools that he was defensive coordinator. The defenses have gradually gotten worse each and every single year. I don’t understand why firing a couple of assistants and keeping Todd Grantham helps you improve this defense, because obviously it hasn’t done it.

The first three games, I started changing my mind and started saying maybe this defense is starting to click, maybe it was Covid from 2020, maybe I just need to slow my roll. Now three more games into the season, I’m saying we’re seeing the same things from last year. This defense has gradually gotten worse, worse, and worse ever since the year has gone on. They’ve not gotten better. Other teams are studying Florida’s defensive schemes, their offensive schemes, and they’re pushing everybody up front. Florida’s not able to run the football now. They know Emory Jones can’t pass the ball.

I’ll get into Emory Jones. I love Emory Jones to death, but right now we’ll get into the quarterback thing. Right now, teams are stacking the box, and they know that Florida cannot play good defense on the ground. LSU just ran draw plays all game. The same play for I don’t know how many times. It seemed like 20 times. Right down the middle. It seemed like LSU, whenever they wanted to get a 5, 10, 8, 20 yard chunk, they could just hand the ball off and do it.

Andrew:The thing is they were dragging guys as well. The issue is a couple things here. First of all, changing staff members only works to a certain amount. If the scheme sucks, it sucks. It just is what it is. The scheme hasn’t been very good. You’ve gotten away with it earlier in the year to some extent, because of some good players. Here’s the thing, David. This is what everybody forgets. It’s on Todd Grantham too, but it comes back to one thing, David. You know the answer to that?

David:What’s that?

Andrew:Starts with an R.

David:Yeah.

Andrew:Recruiting. It all starts with recruiting, David. You have no linebackers on this football team anymore. When Ventrell Miller got hurt, you had zero true middle linebackers. Diabate, not a middle linebacker. Jeremiah Moon, one of my favorite players, not a middle linebacker. Ty’Ron Hopper, not a middle linebacker. Derek Wingo, maybe, but not playing, because they don’t trust him or he hasn’t developed enough. You have zero, David. How are you in Year 4 of your program and you have zero true middle linebackers after your starting senior linebacker, who should be gone if it wasn’t for Covid? You have zero. I love Jeremiah Moon to death. I love Diabate to death. Both of them are good players. They shouldn’t be playing Mike linebacker.

David:No.

Andrew:You don’t stop football teams when you have no linebackers. The thing is the linebackers has still not filled a gap correctly in four years.

David:Yeah. What was it? Ventrell Miller is probably our best run stopping linebacker, and now he’s hurt, out for the season. So, who do you got? Who do you have?

Andrew:You’re playing three guys. You’re playing Hopper, Diabate, and Moon. You’re not playing Wingo, whatever that is. I’ve heard he hasn’t developed very well. Cool. Developing is on you, because you’re supposedly a developing football coaching staff, whatever. What is the issue?

I say this, and I’m not trying to get down on players. You have three defensive players who transferred in. They transferred in for a reason. They didn’t transfer in because they were great football players everywhere else. They transferred in because they were either beat out, wasn’t going to play, or something or another. They transferred in. They’re not making the plays. Gervon Dexter, he had some okay plays. Again, he lost a lot of playing time to three transfer guys. Des Watson didn’t play at all. Didn’t play at all on Saturday. Don’t understand that. Clog the gap a little bit. I don’t know.

It all goes back to recruiting though, David, and that is the end all end all. There’s no getting around it. At the end of the day, it’s all about recruiting. You have to have depth, or you don’t win in this league.

David:Talk about offensive line and recruiting. I was talking to, I believe it was Will Miles in private message, and it may not have been Will Miles. Probably somebody else. I forget who I was talking to. They said, minus Tony Livingston, John Hevesy at a star level has not recruited past a three-star offensive line or offensive tackle, unless it’s come from the portal. In high school.

Andrew:Tony Livingston’s not an offensive lineman.

David:Yeah. Exactly.

Andrew:He’s a tight end.

David:Right. He’s a basketball player.

Andrew:And he’s not even playing with his team right now.

David:Right. Anyway, like you said, it comes down to recruiting. I said it on Twitter. I said this is what happens when Miami’s down, Florida State’s down, and you don’t take advantage of both those programs being down and get the guys that are in state. The elite prospects that are in state are still going to Alabama. They’re still going to Clemson. They’re still going to Georgia.

Georgia, they’re just cherry-picking from your own state, a state that you should be able to go up to a recruit and say, your family can come down here, 100 miles, 50 miles, maybe even 150 at the most, travel to see you play just about every game. Instead, they’re all flying out to see their families play a game in Alabama, Tuscaloosa, South Carolina, and in Georgia. They’re traveling 400-500 miles to see their kids play, as opposed to just traveling 50 or 100, because they don’t want to come to the University of Florida. That’s a problem. Most of the talent comes from the state of Florida. We all know that. Why can’t you get any elite recruits from here?

Andrew:It goes back to a couple things. Don’t recruit well. Your guys don’t build good relationships there. Here’s the thing. Stop with the excuses that it’s the facilities.

David:Yeah.

Andrew:First of all, you’ve got way more facilities right now than any previous coach at Florida has ever had.

David:More than Miami.

Andrew:More than Miami’s got. You’ve got an indoor practice facility that you can show off that’s about to be there. Stop. Just stop with the excuses. We’ll get into more of that in a minute. That’s defensively. Offensively, what’s going on? Where is Dan Mullen, the football coach who schemed up a great game against Alabama last year, Georgia last year, Alabama this year? Where’s that guy?

David:Yeah. You don’t see it. Plus, we’ll get onto offense. Let’s do this. I want to get into quarterback play. It’s going to be the big talk right now, quarterback play. Anthony Richardson comes into this game. Struggling Emory Jones, he throws two picks. One of them was a pick six. He puts Anthony Richardson in around 14 minutes and 21 seconds in the third quarter. This is right after halftime, right after Emory throws a pick right after we get the ball. He puts Anthony Richardson in, and he starts Anthony Richardson the rest of the game.

Anthony Richardson for two quarters would lead the team in total passing yards, 167. Total rushing yards he would lead, 37. Total touchdowns he would lead, three. He wouldn’t come into the game, like I said, until 14 minutes and 12 seconds in the third quarter. He would also account for 29 of the 42 points, which is 70% almost of the points scored all game. He would also score 29 points in 13 minutes and 21 seconds, less than one quarter. Why isn’t this kid starting at quarterback?

Andrew:I have to think about it. I mean, I don’t have to think about this. I have to slow my roll about this for a second. I think there’s a couple things here. I think there’s a couple things in play. First of all, Dan Mullen has not put Emory Jones in a good position to win a football game yet, and that’s on Dan. Second thing, I don’t know that answer. I wish I knew that answer. I don’t know that answer. I will say this. Anthony had two picks too, and both of those were really bad throws.

David:Ill advised throws. Yeah.

Andrew:But I will say this, and your backup quarterback is always your favorite guy on the team. That is what it is. Now, whether or not it was because they were down in this game, and then Anthony came in, the team did look more energized when Anthony Richardson came in the game.

David:The offense did.

Andrew:The thing about it is I don’t know why it is, but Dan turned the playbook loose when Anthony came in. There’s a couple of questions that have to be asked here, David. I don’t mean to filibuster your question. There’s a couple questions that have to be asked. Does Mullen trust Anthony more with the playbook than Emory? That’s Question 1. Question 2 is, if the answer is yes, why is he not starting? If the answer is no, then why doesn’t Emory have the entire playbook? You can’t tell me the playbook Anthony Richardson had and the playbook Emory Jones had was the same. I’m not trying to be an Emory apologist, because stats speak for itself, and he didn’t play well, but both quarterbacks are not given the same opportunities and the same playbook. It’s confusing to me. It’s frustrating to me.

David:Let me ask you this. Are the plays being executed better by Anthony Richardson than they are by Emory Jones? A lot of times I saw yesterday where Emory Jones progressed through his reads, would get confused, take off running with the football or do something, do whatever else. When Anthony Richardson was in the game, he was able to look off safeties. He was able to go through his reads quick, toss the football where it needed to go, and it was for the most part pretty accurate. He threw two picks.

My opinion here is this. You can answer that question in a second. My opinion is Emory Jones, and I love Emory Jones to death. I’m not going to say he’s a bad quarterback. I don’t think he’s a bad quarterback. I don’t think he’s the quarterback that you need for this team right now, the way that they’re playing on defense, to win football games. Emory Jones is not a guy that’s going to dig you out of a 14 to 21 to 28 point hole and lead his team back to a victory, or even tie the game.

Andrew:Right.

David:Anthony Richardson is the type of guy that he’s going to have his warts. It’s going to be pretty much his first year starting as well. He’s going to make his mistakes, but what do you do now?

Andrew:The thing is this. Here’s what you have to do. I’m sorry to cut you off. I get fired up.

David:We’re all fired up here today.

Andrew:What is next year? This year’s gone.

David:Exactly.

Andrew:This year is gone. What is next year? Is next year Emory Jones your starting quarterback, or is Anthony Richardson your starting quarterback next year? Here’s the thing, and remember this, whichever guy you pick, the other guy is probably going to transfer.

David:He’s probably gone.

Andrew:That’s not me starting rumors or anything else. That’s facts. That’s the day and age we live in. Sorry. It just is. Don’t think for a second if Anthony Richardson is the starter Emory’s not looking for other places to play. It’d be dumb on Emory’s part. Don’t think for a second it’s the opposite way around. If Emory starts, and Anthony doesn’t start the rest of the year, don’t think for a second Anthony’s not going to look for other places to play.

It’s a question that has to be asked. I think the answer’s pretty simple here. I think though it’s this too, David. Again, I know I sound like an Emory apologist, and I’m not trying to be, but, yes, this is a quarterback problem, but, yes, this is an offense problem for Florida. This offense is not very good. There’s not a receiver on this team that can get open. When you look at the game in the first half, even in the second half at times, nobody was getting open. Nobody was getting open. Emory does throw some balls behind it. Anthony did throw some balls behind it. The receivers give them no help. There’s no help. There’s no separation.

David:I think I saw one.

Andrew:It goes back to one thing, David. Recruiting.

David:Recruiting. I think I saw one play where they got separation. That was that Jacob Copeland pass for a touchdown that tied the game 42-42. I believe that one was the only play I saw some kind of separation on.

Andrew:That was a double move.

David:It was a double move, and the ball was kind of late a little bit on that play too. But still made it from Anthony Richardson. My thing is this. Anthony Richardson gives you the best chance to win football games right now. That’s not me saying that Emory Jones is a bad quarterback or whatever. Anthony Richardson is the bigger guy. He’s faster on his feet. I think he might have just about as good an arm as Emory Jones, probably better. He’s a bigger guy. But he goes through his reads and progresses through his reads a lot better than Emory Jones.

I just saw him lead a team that was down by almost three touchdowns and looked checked out and came back and almost won them the football game. Usually when a quarterback can energize his offense and energize his players around him to lead a spark into the offense, to get these guys back in the football game, usually the defense comes out with fire and wants to get a stop. You didn’t see that.

Every time it seemed like Anthony Richardson scored, Florida would just give up another touchdown on defense, and Anthony Richardson would have to roll back out there. There’s no question in my mind right now, if you threw Anthony Richardson out there at the beginning of the game and let him play all the way to the end, Florida could have scored at least 60 or 70 points on LSU.

Andrew:Yes. Probably. But you have to take it for what it is, and that is he played in the second half. We don’t know. We don’t know what changes LSU would have made. Andrew Spivey and David Soderquist breakdown on the Gators looked on offense on Saturday and who stood out to them.
Andrew and David also breakdown how the Gators defense improved on Saturday as they now look ahead to Saturday’s game against USF.
TRANSCRIPT:
David: What’s up, folks of Gator Country? This is none other than your boy David Soderquist, along with Andrew Spivey. Andrew, we had quite a week of college football wrapped up in the books. Lot of teams struggled coming out of the first game of the season, and a lot of teams who actually looked impressive in Week 1 as well.
The first and foremost, we have to break down our takeaways from Gainesville, FL. The Florida Gators defeated the fighting Willy Taggarts here, 35-14. Now, Andrew, I know we talked a little bit last night on the phone about the game. I got to watch some of the highlights and go over the stat lines, but taking away what you did from the naked eye, what did you, first off, think about the crowd, because the crowd was pretty packed. The student section was sold out over there. I looked over there. It was completely sold out. Secondly, what was your overall basic takeaways, first off, just from the offense as a whole?
Andrew: First off, how have we missed the crowd? Again, you take it for granted. In our lifetime, have we ever not seen, obviously, Florida’s had 70,000 for some games, 80,000 for some games, but we just take for granted what it is. You even saw it. FAU had some trouble at different times in the game getting calls in. Took a couple timeouts because of the crowd noise. Really crowd noise all around the country. Florida State, for instance, that was an electric crowd. I will say this. Good for them with Bobby Bowden being honored. Good for them. Good for them to sell it out and honor Bobby in that way. That’s coming from a guy who’s not a Florida State guy. I don’t care anything about them. Can’t stand them. If they lose every game for the next 50 years, I’ll be perfectly fine. It was good to see the atmosphere. It’s good to see the atmosphere in general.
Offensively, there was some struggles, but you put up 553 yards. It’s tough for me to say the offense struggled. To put it in perspective, and not to toot my own horn, not to toot the podcast’s own horn, but we said it. We said it last week. This team’s going to be 60-40, 70-30, run to pass. It is what it is. If you’re expecting anything else from this offense, you’re going to get disappointed all year. You might as well turn the TV off and cut off all your Florida Gator football stuff, because it’s just not. Maybe next year, but not this year with Emory Jones. I’m not saying that to get on the Emory Jones train. We’ll back that up in a little bit. We’ll talk about the Emory/Anthony Richardson battle a little bit.
When you look at the stats, 400 yards rushing and 153 yards passing. 153 yards passing is bad, really bad, but, again, when you put it in perspective that this team was going to be more of a run first offense, they had 400 yards of rushing. Most since the Cocktail Party in 2014 when Willy Muschamp decided he wasn’t going to bring any air for the football and throw it. It’s tough for me to say that the offense struggled. I said it on the podcast on Friday, I wanted to see the offensive line just get up and mash.
David: They did.
Andrew: For the most part of the game, they mashed.
David: Yeah. You said 400 yards total rushing, which actually leads the nation for Week 1. #1 in rushing. 400 yards. A big part of that, and a lot of people were talking about it, and I was too. I was right there, right beside the tunnel. I got a bunch of good videos. It was a great atmosphere around there.

Andrew Spivey and David Soderquist breakdown the keys for both teams as we look at the ways the Gators have the advantage in this game against the Owls.<br />
Andrew and David also give you three players to watch for the Gators on Saturday, plus we predict several games around the country.<br />
TRANSCRIPT:<br />
&nbsp;<br />
David: What’s up folks of Gator Country? This is your boy, David Soderquist, along with Andrew Spivey. Andrew, man, gearing up for FAU, the first game of the season. I’m pretty pumped and pretty excited. I’m excited to get down there, mainly to tailgate and to watch the game. I’ll be sitting down there where the Gators come out and taking a few videos. I’m pretty excited. I’ve never had seats there, so I’m ready to get down there.<br />
Andrew: Dan Mullen said something on Wednesday. I knew it, but it didn’t really resonate with me that you really haven’t had a full crowd since the Orange Bowl.<br />
David: Right.<br />
Andrew: That’s over 600 days. Is the crowd going to be rocking and sold out for FAU? Absolutely not, but I think it’s going to be a good crowd on Saturday night in the Swamp. Dan Mullen said, “You can’t simulate that.” There’s no crowd noise you can pump into the stadium. I’m excited. I’m excited for football in general. You have Tennessee-Bowling Green on Thursday, and then you obviously have Miami and Alabama before the Florida game on Saturday. While Florida’s playing, you have Georgia-Clemson, and then you have Notre Dame that’s going to put the beatdown on FSU on Sunday night. That’s a little primetime football. Welcome to TV, FSU.<br />
David: Welcome to mainstream TV. It hasn’t hit you in a while, has it?<br />
Andrew: Yeah. Will we see the teacher with his book is the question?<br />
David: I don’t know. He’ll probably slap them around a little bit with it.<br />
Andrew: There’s a lot of good stuff. People always say, do you really want a tune up game, or do you want a top 10, top 25 matchup to start the year? There’s arguments both ways. There really is. For me personally, I love to see those top 25 matchups to start the year. Even Florida-Miami Week 0 two years ago I thought was good. Florida-Michigan a few years back when it was in AT&amp;T stadium. I like it. I think it’s good for football. Nobody wants to watch Florida-FAU 50 times around the country.<br />
David: When you’re starting the football season, you obviously want to have good games lined up on the slate. That’s usually what they try to do every year is get two or three of those good games in there. What I love about the first game of the season, and I mentioned it last week, you get games on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It’s Labor Day Weekend too, so you get an extra day off to watch all those games too.<br />
Andrew: We’re taping this on Wednesday, and my man, Bill Clark, up at UAB going to kick off here in a little bit. That’ll be a good one. It wouldn’t be game week though if you didn’t have the depth chart that comes out.<br />
David: The depth chart. The dreaded depth chart that everybody loves to hate, and some of the smarter people out there just already know what’s going to happen. It’s like when Steve Spurrier talked about how sometimes he would look at practice, and he’d be like, I’ll just pencil him in here. I’ll just pencil him in there. That’s kind of really what Dan Mullen does, right? He kind of just pencils somebody in there, and then tomorrow it could be somebody else. You might even see Demarkcus Bowman out there this week. You may not. He may release another depth chart before the game.<br />
Andrew: You’re saying he must put all the names in a hat and shake it up and draw it.<br />

Andrew Spivey and David Soderquist give you a game by game prediction for the football season for the Florida Gators.<br />
Andrew and David look at the tough match-ups for the Gators and give you the games to watch for the Gators this coming season.<br />
TRANSCRIPT:<br />
David:What’s up, folks at Gator Country? This is your boy, David Soderquist, here along with Andrew Spivey. Gearing up for Week 1 of real actual college football this time in the SEC. A huge slate of games comes to you this Saturday, as Florida gears up to face the fighting Willy Taggarts of FAU in the Swamp. Today we’ll be doing a little season preview here for you folks before we officially are in game week, where we will preview FAU on next week’s episode. We might get a little bit into it today. Andrew, before we start this season preview, there’s some injury news on the cusp of Week 1. Would you like to go ahead and just give us the 411 real quick on that?<br />
Andrew:Kamar Wilcoxson looks like he’ll miss a good amount of time. Down with a meniscus tear. Probably the second biggest injury, the second most significant injury of the fall with Kamar going down and Jaydon Hill going down before with a torn ACL. Two big injuries out of fall camp. We’ll see how long it keeps Kamar out. Some are saying six weeks. Some are saying eight weeks. I don’t want to say it was a successful fall that only two guys got hurt, because that’s downgrading those two guys, but a successful fall in that you didn’t have a lot of injuries, and that’s a good thing. That’s what you want out of all camp. It was good.<br />
There’s several small injuries. Jaydon Hill’s dealing with the famous high ankle sprain. We know how that is. That could be two weeks, six weeks, twelve weeks, two years. Then Daquan Newkirk, some are saying it’s a growing injury. Some are saying it’s a little bit of a hamstring injury. Both of those guys are probably questionable for the FAU game, at best. It’s FAU.<br />
David:Right. I was telling fans on Twitter. It’s like, don’t worry. We’re against FAU, Willy Taggart, and a quarterback that’s throwing for 52% for his career. I think if Florida struggles in that game I’m going to be really optimistic about what the rest of the year is going to look like, if that happens. It’s nothing to worry about really, especially this early in the season. I would say if Daquan Newkirk’s injury isn’t as extensive as reported I would say you rest him and get him ready for Week 3 against Alabama. I just don’t think it’s time to start worrying all of a sudden. Hopefully Kamar Wilcoxson will be good by that LSU game.<br />
Andrew:With Newkirk, you worry about him, because of his injuries in the past. That was always the thing at Auburn was he was always had a nagging injury that bothered him. If he’s not fully healthy, don’t risk in Game 1, potentially have something tear or something else, and then you’re looking at three, four, five, six weeks down the road. You don’t want that to happen. You need Daquan Newkirk against Alabama in the Swamp.<br />
David:Right. You think we see big meat Game 1 then, Desmond Watson.<br />
Andrew:I think so. I think so. That new three game rule for the redshirts helps Desmond. The way I look at it is this. Des has Game 1 and Game 2 to show everybody in the world that even though he’s 30, 40 pounds over what Dan Mullen wants him to be, he can still be effective in a game.<br />
David:Right.<br />
Andrew:If Des goes out there and wreaks havoc in Game 1 and Game 2, the redshirt rule won’t matter to Des. If Des goes out there and looks slow in Game 1 and Game 2, rule will matter for Des, and he’ll be on a redshirt rule losing weight the next six, seven, eight weeks.<br />
David:From all the videos I have seen of Desmond Watson, he does move really quick for his size.</itunes:summary><itunes:author>GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!</itunes:author>

Podcast: Previewing the 2021 football season for the Florida Gators
<itunes:title>Podcast: Previewing the 2021 football season for the Florida Gators</itunes:title>
GC brings you a new podcast as Andrew Spivey and David Soderquist start to the preview the football season for the Florida Gators.

GC brings you a new podcast as Andrew Spivey and David Soderquist start to the preview the football season for the Florida Gators.

http://www.gatorcountry.com/podcasts/podcast-previewing-the-2021-football-season-for-the-florida-gators

<itunes:image href="https://artwork.captivate.fm/b6cc2348-53d2-498b-864b-9ca7d120635f/gclogo-podcast.jpg"/>
GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!

<itunes:duration>57:03</itunes:duration><itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:summary>GatorCountry brings you a new podcast as GC welcomes the newest addition David Soderquist to the team.<br />
Andrew Spivey and David start to preview the season for the Florida Gators as we&#8217;re now just over a week until the Gators start the football season against FAU.<br />
Andrew and David also talk recruiting and how things are going for the coaching staff off the field as they head into the 2021 football season.<br />
TRANSCRIPT:<br />
Andrew: Welcome back, Gator Country. Brand new exciting podcast, and I’ve got my man David Soderquist. Probably said it wrong, because I’m going to say it wrong. We’re back, and we’re going to start doing this podcast. We’re going to back and doing it two times a week, like before. We’ll be back doing our recaps as always, our previews, bringing on some guests. Doing it in the video format as well, so if you’re just listening to us or reading the transcript, we’re on video as well. David’s coming over. Big fan of David. Joined his podcast a few times. David, first, before we get going, tell everybody a little bit about yourself.<br />
David: Man, I’m just a crazy guy, man. I’m a big fan of Florida Gators. I don’t walk on crates and bust my face on the concrete, but I definitely love my tailgates and hopefully nobody brings any crates to the tailgates this year. Great Gator fanatic here. I’ve been doing podcasting for a while. Did some over for Chomp Talk, and now I’m over here at Gator Country, and I’m exciting to begin this journey with you, Andrew Spivey, over here. It’s just great to be back in the podcasting world. I took about a month hiatus and kind of twiddled my thumbs there. I was waiting to get back in the podcasting world. Now I’m here with you, Andrew, and it’s great to be a Florida Gator.<br />
Andrew: Did you see the Oriole? They screenshotted him when the Orioles finally won, and he conquered the crate. That was pretty good. I’ll be honest. I was watching through Facebook, and you get those dumb videos that come through Facebook. It was just some crazy guy, a big guy, an offensive line guy, and he was trying to do it. I thought it was a joke. I didn’t know that it was this new thing going on. You’re not going to catch me walking over no crates. I’m sorry.<br />
David: No, but I did post a video of Hevesy. If you didn’t watch it, it was like when you go up to the final crate it’s a five star. You come down, it’s a four star. It’s a three star, and he just falls and hits his face. So, yeah. That pretty much just takes up for all the offensive line recruiting that we’ve had here lately.<br />
Andrew: We’ll get into that, because it’s been a circus. Offensive line has been an adventure. It’s been an adventure for the last three years. Some good news overall. Florida’s done really well in certain positions. Nick Evers looks to be now, I think we all knew Nick was going to be a really, really good prospect and commit for Florida, but it’s looking like Nick’s the guy that Florida’s been missing. Myself, I’ve missed covering guys like Nick who just absolutely love recruiting, who absolutely love the process, who love to talk about the process. Nick, his family is very involved. We all make fun and make jokes, Miss Evers is on him. She is on him. So is dad. If Florida eventually lands Evan Stewart, you can thank Nick and his family. They’re huge in the Evan Stewart thing.<br />
I say this all the time, but you only have a select few guys every year that love recruiting, love to help you get the guys on campus. Nick’s one of those guys. We always talked about Tebow loved in. I’m trying to think back. Nick Washington. He loved to recruit. Nick loves to recruit.<br />
David: Definitely. If you see it now, Monica Evers just started following me too, so shout out to Monica Evers out there. Finally, I got the follow from her. You could just tell Nick loves recruiting. He loves the sport.</itunes:summary><itunes:author>GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!</itunes:author>

Podcast: Talking recruiting visits, plus baseball regional
<itunes:title>Podcast: Talking recruiting visits, plus baseball regional</itunes:title>
GC brings you a new podcast as we recap recruiting visits for the Florida Gators, plus we talk baseball regional.

GC brings you a new podcast as we recap recruiting visits for the Florida Gators, plus we talk baseball regional.

http://www.gatorcountry.com/podcasts/podcast-talking-recruiting-visits-plus-baseball-regional

<itunes:image href="https://artwork.captivate.fm/5249190c-89cd-4b88-93bc-87fd426d4cf0/gclogo-podcast.jpg"/>
GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!

<itunes:duration>40:18</itunes:duration><itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:summary>GatorCountry brings you a new podcast as we talk recruiting visits for the Florida Gators as they hosted prospects on campus on Tuesday, plus they will host official visitors this weekend.<br />
Andrew Spivey and Ethan Hughes recap how Tuesday&#8217;s cookout went for the Gators, plus we preview official visits for the Gators.<br />
Andrew and Ethan preview the Gainesville regional for the Florida Gators baseball team as they received the 15 seed in the tournament.<br />
TRANSCRIPT:<br />
Andrew: What’s up, Gator Country? Your man, Andrew Spivey, back with Ethan. Ethan, we’re back, man. Things have changed a little bit over the last few days. We got visitors back on campus for the cookout on Tuesday. Baseball is about to play for a Regional. My Jaguars are coming to town, and we’re going to talk about that in a minute. Softball had a not so good finish, and official visitors this weekend. A lot to talk about. A lot to get to.<br />
First off, you were on campus Tuesday. Was it nice to see kids for a change?<br />
Ethan: It was. Anything is better than just Zoom and phone interviews at this point. You combine that with the fact that we’re going to see full capacity potentially in baseball. It’s just nice to feel like things are what they used to be at this point.<br />
Andrew: Let me ask you. You’re a tad younger than me, so you’ve been through this process a little later than have. How difficult would it have been for you to never see a campus and make a decision?<br />
Ethan: For it would have been easy, because I went to college 30 minutes from home.<br />
Andrew: Yeah.<br />
Ethan: I can’t really relate to these kids.<br />
Andrew: Okay. Let me ask you this. How had would it have been for you to go out of state without seeing a campus?<br />
Ethan: Oh, impossible. That would not have happened.<br />
Andrew: Right. Exactly. It’s good to see. Florida had about 50 or so prospects on campus on Tuesday for the cookout. Overall, I thought it was a really good event. Some people kind of were upset that different things were going on. They said it kind of looked cheesy at times and different things like that. Overall, I thought it was a really good event. I thought they got a lot of quality players, prospects, on campus. I thought they were able to spend a lot of time with them. They took them on the bus tour around campus. They had the photo shoot. They had the barbeque from former Gator great Shannon Snell. A lot of things overall.<br />
First off, Ethan, when you were able to kind of see them get on campus and that kind of stuff, what was your just overall take of the event in general?<br />
Ethan: What we got to see from sitting on a bench in the parking lot, it sounded like it was pretty loud. They had the stadium music and everything blaring. Sounded like it was a party in there, which I guess is what you’re aiming for on the first day after a lengthy dead period. Kind of grab these kids’ attention. It grabbed everybody that walked by’s attention, so I would think it was effective for the guys that were participating as well.<br />
Andrew: Again, it’s always one of those things where how much can you see, how much can you do as far as atmosphere goes when you’re not in school, not in session, as far as for games and that kind of stuff. So, you have to kind of create that atmosphere in the Swamp and that kind of stuff. I thought they did. Again, for what they can, I thought they did a good job of it. I think the biggest thing, and you can correct me if you think differently here, I think the biggest thing in general was just getting them on campus to see coaches in person, to meet coaches in person, and to put face to the voice. I know they see them on Zoom and everything else, but seeing somebody on Zoom and then meeting them in...</itunes:summary><itunes:author>GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!</itunes:author>

Podcast: Talking Diamond sports for the Florida Gators, NCAA tournament and more
<itunes:title>Podcast: Talking Diamond sports for the Florida Gators, NCAA tournament and more</itunes:title>
GC brings you a new podcast as we break down the diamond sports as softball starts the NCAA tournament and baseball heads into the last regular-season series of the year.

GC brings you a new podcast as we break down the diamond sports as softball starts the NCAA tournament and baseball heads into the last regular-season series of the year.

http://www.gatorcountry.com/podcasts/podcast-talking-diamond-sports-for-the-florida-gators-ncaa-tournament-and-more

<itunes:image href="https://artwork.captivate.fm/a03d932f-d76c-4343-b21f-59b621eea7cb/gclogo-podcast.jpg"/>
GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!

<itunes:duration>40:27</itunes:duration><itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:summary>GatorCountry brings you a new podcast as we break down the diamond sports as softball starts the NCAA tournament and baseball looks to finish the regular season strong.<br />
Andrew Spivey, Ethan Hughes, and Bailiegh Carlton break down how the softball did in the SEC tournament and what to look for in this week&#8217;s regional as the Gators host.<br />
Andrew, Ethan, and Baileigh also break down what baseball has to do this weekend to win the SEC East, plus we talk about the Swamp going to 100 percent capacity this fall.<br />
TRANSCRIPT:<br />
Andrew:What’s up, Gator Country? Your man, Andrew Spivey, back with Ethan and Baileigh. We’re going with the trio today. Have everybody back, and got a pretty good podcast coming up. Diamond sports are getting towards the end. Softball is going to host the Regional of the NCAA Tournament. Will also host the Super Regionals, if the Gators are able to move on. Then baseball is in their last weekend series, as they take on Arkansas. There’s still a slim chance of winning the East. We’ll get into that in a minute.<br />
Baileigh, let’s first talk about it. Softball gets all the way to the SEC Tournament championship to fall to host Alabama. I don’t want to say Florida played terrible in the championship game, but they didn’t play very good. Some very uncharacteristic defensive mistakes in the game, but overall, the Gators played well in the tournament.<br />
Baileigh:I think they played well, but it’s like I’ve said over and over, you just never know what you’re going to get from this team. In postseason you can’t rely on needing those late game clutch hits, and that’s what they had to use in both, in the quarterfinal and the semifinal. Then that never came against Alabama, because when you’re facing Montana Fouts it’s just not going to happen, nine times out of ten. So, it wasn’t a bad tournament. I’m not a huge fan of riding Elizabeth Hightower as much as Florida is doing right now. She’s been great this year, but she started all three games in the SEC Tournament, which I thought was a little odd.<br />
Now we’re moving into Regionals. Florida’s the #4 overall seed, hosting Baylor, South Alabama, your school there, and USF. It’s a very winnable regional. I think Florida should get out of it pretty easily.<br />
Andrew:I think what you said is a good point. You go with Montana Fouts, who set the SEC Tournament record for strikeouts. Every team seems like they have that one stopper. Hightower is that for Florida. You go around the country, Oklahoma and the other big name schools, they always got it. Kelly Barnhill was that for a while for Florida. Ocasio kind of was that a little bit too. That’s what Fouts is. I kind of compare it to baseball, where that’s your ace. You have to figure out a way to grind at bats the whole game. Grind at bats to get the pitch count up, but to grind at bats and to get across a run or two. When Bama was up 3-0, had Florida been able to scrape across a run or two there, it’d been a whole different ball game, but they didn’t, and they went on to lose four to nothing.<br />
You kind of look at it. You look at the earlier games in the tournament, where it was some late action in the game. The Missouri game, they allow what, five runs in the ninth inning and have to score two in the bottom of the seventh to come back win the game just to advance to the championship. When you get into, maybe not the Regional, but you get into Super Regionals with either probably Georgia or Duke as that next opponent, and then you get into Oklahoma City and the College World Series, you’re not going to be able to do that. If you allow five runs in the seventh inning, you’re probably done.<br />
Baileigh:Right.<br />
Andrew:If you don’t score a run early on, you’re probably done. I hope that it’s a team that understands what’s about to be in front of them. A lot of these girls have the experience there. Hightower doesn’t necessarily have the experience in the circle as some...</itunes:summary><itunes:author>GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!</itunes:author>

Podcast: Talking Florida Gators baseball and SEC softball tournament
<itunes:title>Podcast: Talking Florida Gators baseball and SEC softball tournament</itunes:title>
GC brings you a new podcast as we preview the diamond sports for the Florida Gators this weekend, plus we talk football recruiting.

GC brings you a new podcast as we preview the diamond sports for the Florida Gators this weekend, plus we talk football recruiting.

http://www.gatorcountry.com/podcasts/podcast-talking-florida-gators-baseball-and-sec-softball-tournament

<itunes:image href="https://artwork.captivate.fm/aab23e94-72b8-4873-bd11-c4211e87bdc9/gclogo-podcast.jpg"/>
GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!

<itunes:duration>43:14</itunes:duration><itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:summary>GatorCountry brings you a new podcast as we preview this weekend&#8217;s diamond action as baseball host their last home series, plus the softball team is playing in the SEC tournament.<br />
Andrew Spivey and Ethan Hughes talk about Tim Tebow potentially signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars, plus the latest recruiting news for the Gators.<br />
Andrew and Ethan also break down what the baseball team needs to do this weekend to continue to trend in the right direction.<br />
TRANSCRIPT:<br />
Andrew:What’s up, Gator Country? Your man, Andrew Spivey, back with Ethan. It’s a duo today, tag team. We’re back. Pretty jampacked show we got planned here, Ethan. Gators last weekend at home, correct?<br />
Ethan:In baseball, yes. Last home series against Georgia.<br />
Andrew:Overall, it’s been a good season at home. Welcome the new ballpark. Obviously, things could have went better overall. Let me ask you this. First impressions of the new stadium. Playing as you expect them?<br />
Ethan:It’s played pretty much like I expected. It’s a little bit bigger and more of a pitcher’s park than what McKethanStadium was, but at the same time, it plays very fair. If you absolutely crush a ball, like you saw with Jud Fabian and Chris Armstrong a couple times, it will still sail out of there in a hurry. From a playing standpoint, I think it plays very similar to what the stadium is like in Omaha. Just from a fan standpoint, it’s a gorgeous stadium. The shade is going to be so beneficial over the years with the heat and then rain. It’s one of the nicer stadiums in the country, I would imagine. I haven’t seen any other college baseball stadiums, but I think you’d be hard-pressed to build anything a whole lot nicer than that.<br />
Andrew:I haven’t seen Florida’s new stadium in person yet. We’ll see that soon. Seen a lot of stadiums around the SEC, the new box at LSU is beautiful. The thing about it is is they don’thave the whole 360 and being able to see the field from everywhere like the new Minor League stadiums are, and I’m a big Minor League guy. From the photos I’ve seen and the impressions I’ve gotten from people, Florida’s new stadium is as close to a Minor League ballpark as it is.<br />
Like you said, I think it plays true. If you hit the ball good enough to go out of the ballpark, it’s going to go out of the ballpark. It’s definitely an extra base hit ballpark in the gaps. Definitely a pitcher’s ballpark at times too. That’s kind of to be expected with Kevin O’Sullivan, even though this year hasn’t been a great pitching year overall, but we’ll get into that here in a minute.<br />
Softball was the SEC regular season champions, entered the SEC Tournament as the one seed. We’re taping this on Thursday, and they’re taking on Mississippi State in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Playing Mississippi State. Should be a good weekend for the Gators as well. They technically tied with Arkansas, but took the #1 seed over percentage points against Alabama, because they were the third seed, and Florida won two out of three against them. We’ll get into that in a minute.<br />
Some big news in the NFL. The man, the myth, the legend, the goat, Tim Tebow is expected to be signed to a one-year deal by the Jaguars to play tight end. You heard that right. Not quarterback, but tight end. After he worked out for Urban Meyer’s staff. Did not workout for Urban, as Urban said he didn’t want to be a part of it, so that no one called him biased or anything else, and I get that. Ethan, first impressions are what? You’re a Jaguar fan.<br />
Ethan:Urban can try to remove himself from the process as much as possible, but if he’s not the head coach of the Jaguars, I don’t think Tim Tebow’s getting a job in the League right now. From a Jaguar standpoint, it’s the worst tight end room in the NFL, possibly by a pretty large margin, so it’s kind of a low risk, high reward move. Either he’ll improve the position group and help the team get better,</itunes:summary><itunes:author>GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!</itunes:author>

Podcast: Recapping the NFL Draft for the Florida Gators
<itunes:title>Podcast: Recapping the NFL Draft for the Florida Gators</itunes:title>
GC brings you a new podcast as we recap the Florida Gators draft picks as eight guys were drafted and three others were picked up as free agents.

GC brings you a new podcast as we recap the Florida Gators draft picks as eight guys were drafted and three others were picked up as free agents.

http://www.gatorcountry.com/podcasts/podcast-recapping-the-nfl-draft-for-the-florida-gators

<itunes:image href="https://artwork.captivate.fm/50561288-c3b3-4c04-abab-4bd79618c0b3/gclogo-podcast.jpg"/>
GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!

<itunes:duration>39:56</itunes:duration><itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:summary>GatorCountry brings you a new podcast as we recap the NFL Draft for the Florida Gators as eight guys were drafted.<br />
Andrew Spivey, Bailiegh Carlton, and Ethan Hughes give you their thoughts on the eight guys that were drafted, plus we give our thoughts on the guys who signed free-agent contracts.<br />
Andrew, Baileigh, and Ethan also recap the diamond sports as both softball and baseball took their weekend series against Missouri and Vanderbilt.<br />
TRANSCRIPT:<br />
Andrew: What’s up, Gator Country? Your man, Andrew Spivey, back with Ethan and Baileigh. Guys, we’re post NFL Draft, so that means we’re a little bit closer to football season. Ethan, you were right. The Gators did take a series against Vandy, and it was a wild series. Baileigh, go up and have Missouri come to town and take two out of three, and now just sit a game back of Arkansas still. Rough series pitching wise at times for the Lady Gators. Overall, good weekend for the Gators. Eight guys drafted. Some surprises there, and we’ll get into that. First of all, Ethan, we got to know the story about the water park. The man goes to the water park, hurts his arm. He’s MIA for the Vandy series. I mean, did you just want to miss the Vandy series? You thought it was going to be that bad?<br />
Ethan: To be honest, missing the Vandy series was actually one of the first things that went through my mind after it happened. Just couldn’t happen any other time of the year? What happened, basically went to a water park, got on a waterslide, and couldn’t figure out how to get off the tube when we got to the pool. It was like a two-person tube, but for whatever reason they only had one person in a tube at a time, so I had a hard time trying to figure out how to get out of it without flipping the thing over on top of me. I ended up rolling over onto the concrete steps and dislocated my shoulder. Was not very fun that day.<br />
Andrew: So, you’re on the 10-day IL, or we going to put you on the 60-day IL?<br />
Ethan: 60-day is not necessary. Probably 10-day, and then need maybe a couple Minor League rehab assignments before I get back.<br />
Andrew: There you go. Let’s recap that series real quick. Gators put it on Rocker and win Game 1. Then they lose. No. Sorry. They lose Game 1 to Rocker. Put it on Leiter, and then turn around and win Game 3. First of all, how Vandy with as great of pitching they are do not have a #3 starter is wild to me. Whatever it may be, the Gators take advantage of it. For all the talk about what’s going on with this team, I say it all the time. It doesn’t matter how you start. It’s how you finish. I think this team is starting to finish how we thought this team could be. Obviously, a little bit different. The pitching isn’t as good, but Jud Fabian’s starting to hit a little bit more. You’re seeing Nathan Hickey still hit really good. Chris Armstrong started to come around. Is this team hitting the strides at the right time, Ethan?<br />
Ethan: It definitely seems like they are. That Vanderbilt team was a team that I still think as of now would be the favorite to win the National Championship, with those two starters that they’ve got. It was just an incredible offensive series. They scored 23 runs in three games against the best pitching staff in the SEC, I think by a pretty decent margin. They got three homeruns and five runs off of Jack Leiter, who a couple weeks ago people were saying that he was basically the equivalent of having a Major League starter stuck in a college uniform.<br />
Then pitching wise, they didn’t get a good start from Franco Aleman in Game 1, and that ended up costing them. Tommy Mace, same thing. Didn’t get off to a great start, but he’s able to battle through it and give them eight innings, and that ended up being a huge factor in Game 3, because then they were able to have Jack Leftwich, Christian Scott,</itunes:summary><itunes:author>GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!</itunes:author>

Podcast: Previewing the NFL Draft for the Florida Gators
<itunes:title>Podcast: Previewing the NFL Draft for the Florida Gators</itunes:title>
GC brings you a new podcast as we preview the NFL draft as several Florida Gators' are expected to be taken in the draft that starts on Thursday.

GC brings you a new podcast as we preview the NFL draft as several Florida Gators' are expected to be taken in the draft that starts on Thursday.

http://www.gatorcountry.com/podcasts/podcast-previewing-the-nfl-draft-for-the-florida-gators

<itunes:image href="https://artwork.captivate.fm/7561495e-09f1-41a7-bee9-a08f57f469b3/gclogo-podcast.jpg"/>
GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!

<itunes:duration>43:17</itunes:duration><itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:summary>GatorCountry brings you a new podcast as we preview the NFL Draft that starts on Thursday as several Florida Gators&#8217; are expected to be drafted this week.<br />
Andrew Spivey, Bailiegh Carlton, and Ethan Hughes breakdown where we see the Gators being drafted this week and just how many guys could be drafted this week.<br />
Andrew, Baileigh, and Ethan also recap how the Gators did on the diamond this past week, plus we look ahead to this coming weekend.<br />
TRANSCRIPT:<br />
Andrew: What’s up, Gator Country? Your man, Andrew Spivey, here with Ethan and Baileigh. I was going to say Baileigh and Ethan, but we’ve been on a roll, and we’ve been going with Ethan and Baileigh, so got to keep that way. Guys, we’re back. We’ll have NFL Draft on Thursday and should be a good night or three nights for the Gators.<br />
Baileigh: Yeah. There’s a few that we’re not really sure exactly where they’re going to go, but I think it’s going to be a really good night. Some are speculating that Florida could even tie or possibly break its current school record for players drafted in a single Draft. I guess we’ll see what happens there.<br />
Ethan: When you list guys, I think there’s probably eight guys you could feel very confident about getting drafted, and another two or three that are on the fence. What is the record? 11?<br />
Baileigh: No. I think it’s only nine.<br />
Andrew: Yeah. I think it’s nine.<br />
Ethan: I think they definitely tie that then.<br />
Andrew: Do I think three will be drafted in the first round? No. I don’t. But I also think that there’s an opportunity for three. I think Pitts obviously is probably going to go in the four spot. Who that will be to, we’ll see. Right now it’s the Falcons. I’m cool with it, if Justin Fields isn’t there. We’ll talk about that later, as a Falcons fan. Kadarius is at 15-25 range right there, another guy kind of depending. Then Kyle Trask is an up in the air guy.<br />
My thing for Trask is this. I don’t know that he has got the first round grades, and I don’t know that he is a for sure first rounder as far as talent or whatever goes, whatever the Draft people put on the boards, but I think it becomes a situation where when you look at this it could come down to, let’s just say the first four picks all go quarterbacks, and it goes Lance and Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, and Trevor Lawrence, all four of those guys are gone in the first four picks. I think you could see some team trade up. Mac Jones will be fifth coming off the board, probably. Then you’ll have Kyle as the sixth guy. I could see a team get very anxious and eager later in the first round and maybe try to trade up into the late first round and pick Trask.<br />
Ethan: I could definitely see that happening. Trask is maybe one of the weirder prospects I can remember in recent years from the Gators, because I’ve seen projections that have him in the first round all the way to like the fourth. There’s just a huge range in opinion on him. I think he’s a first round talent. I don’t think a lot of people have him evaluated as a first rounder, which is going to make him fall, because why would you draft somebody higher than what you have to, when you can fill other needs in the meantime? I think it’ll just come down to which team is willing to pull the trigger first, whether that’s first round. I don’t think he makes it past the second. I think that’s about the floor for him.<br />
Andrew: I think the thing here, Ethan, and we see this every year, guys that should not be taken in the first round are taken up because teams get nervous that they’re not going to be able to check off a need. I said this. I was doing another podcast last week. When you look at the quarterback class, the top six quarterbacks in this Draft are really good. After that, it’s not very good.</itunes:summary><itunes:author>GatorCountry.com - The Insider Authority on Florida Gators Sports!</itunes:author>

Podcast: Thoughts on Florida’s spring practice, plus basketball transfers
<itunes:title>Podcast: Thoughts on Florida’s spring practice, plus basketball transfers</itunes:title>
GC brings you a new podcast as we breakdown what we liked about spring practice for the Florida Gators, plus we talk basketball transfers.

GC brings you a new podcast as we breakdown what we liked about spring practice for the Florida Gators, plus we talk basketball transfers.

http://www.gatorcountry.com/podcasts/podcast-thoughts-on-floridas-spring-practice-plus-basketball-transfers

<itunes:image href="https://artwork.captivate.fm/8fd5e1ed-fff6-448c-8747-4b5c627cbd0d/gclogo-podcast.jpg"/>
GatorCountry.com -
