Jesus Teaches About Heaven and Hell (Luke 16:19 – 31)

Jesus taught that every person faces an eternal destiny: Heaven, the home of God, or Hell, the place of separation and suffering.

To illustrate this, He told the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus. On earth, the rich man lived in luxury while ignoring the suffering beggar, Lazarus, at his gate. In the afterlife, their roles reversed: Lazarus was comforted in heaven with Abraham, while the rich man suffered in agony.

When the rich man begged for Lazarus to warn his living brothers, Abraham explained that if they do not believe the Word of God, they will not be convinced even by someone rising from the dead.

Jesus used this to emphasize that salvation and eternal life come only through believing in Him.

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

On the evening of the Resurrection, the disciples gathered behind locked doors, paralyzed by fear. Jesus suddenly appeared among them, offering peace and proving His physical reality by showing His wounds and eating a piece of fish. He explained that His suffering and rising fulfilled the Scriptures and commissioned them to preach repentance to all nations, granting them the Holy Spirit. Thomas, who was absent and skeptical, famously declared he would not believe without physical proof. A week later, Jesus appeared again specifically for Thomas, inviting him to touch His wounds. Thomas confessed Him as "My Lord and my God," prompting Jesus to bless all future believers who would believe without seeing.

The Emmaus Surprise (Luke 24:13 – 35)On the same day as the Resurrection, two disciples—one named Cleopas—were walking seven miles to the village of Emmaus. Jesus joined them, but they were supernaturally prevented from recognizing Him. They shared their grief and confusion over the crucifixion and the "amazing" reports of the empty tomb. Jesus rebuked their lack of faith and explained how all the Scriptures, from Moses to the Prophets, pointed to His suffering and glory. Upon reaching Emmaus, they invited Him to stay for dinner. It was only when Jesus broke the bread that their eyes were opened; He immediately vanished, leaving them with "burning hearts." They rushed back to Jerusalem to find the eleven disciples already celebrating the news that Jesus had appeared to Peter.

Jesus Rises from the Dead

(Matthew 28:1–15; Mark 16:1–11; Luke 24:1–12; John 20:1–18)

At dawn on the third day, a violent earthquake shook the garden as an angel, radiant as lightning, rolled back the stone. The Roman guards collapsed in terror, paralyzed as the tomb was opened.

When Mary Magdalene and her companions arrived with burial spices, they found the entrance gaping and the body gone. Two men in shining robes appeared, asking, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He has risen!" Recalling Jesus’ promise to return, the women raced to tell the disciples. Peter and John sprinted to the tomb, finding only empty linens and a folded face cloth.

Mary remained behind, weeping in the garden. Through her tears, she saw a man she mistook for a gardener. "Sir," she pleaded, "if you have carried Him away, tell me where He is."

"Mary," the man said.

At the sound of her name, she recognized Him. "Rabboni!" she cried. Jesus stayed her hand, explaining He was returning to His Father, and sent her with a message for His followers. With joy replacing her grief, Mary ran to the disciples with the news that would change the world: "I have seen the Lord!"

Jesus Dies

(Matthew 27:32–66; Mark 15:21–47; Luke 23:26–56; John 19:16–42)

The air on Friday morning was heavy with the scent of dust and the sound of weeping. Jesus, scarred by Roman lashes, stumbled toward the hill called Golgotha. When His strength failed, the soldiers seized a traveler named Simon to carry the heavy timber the rest of the way.

At the summit, they nailed Jesus to the wood. Above His head, a sign in three languages declared Him "King of the Jews." As He hung there, the world below was a contrast of cruelty and grace. Soldiers gambled for His seamless robe, and leaders mocked His power. Beside Him, two thieves faced the same end. One joined the hecklers, but the other saw something different in the man beside him. "Remember me," the thief whispered. Jesus turned His head, promising, "Today you will be with Me in paradise."

At noon, an unnatural darkness swallowed the sun. For three hours, the world stayed hushed until Jesus cried out, "It is finished," and breathed His last. In that moment, the earth buckled. Rocks split, and the massive curtain of the Temple tore from top to bottom. Watching the chaos, a Roman centurion trembled, whispering to the wind, "Truly this man was the Son of God."

As evening fell, Joseph of Arimathea, a man of status who had secretly followed Jesus’ teachings, went to Pilate to claim the body. With the help of Nicodemus, he wrapped Jesus in fine linen and spices, laying Him in a fresh tomb carved from stone.

They rolled a massive boulder across the entrance, sealing the silence. Fearing a final trick, the high priests placed guards at the entrance, ensuring the tomb was secure. As the Sabbath began, the city grew quiet, leaving the King in the dark of the earth.

Jesus’ Last Days in Jerusalem

(Matthew 21–27; Mark 11–14; Luke 19–23; John 12–18)

Jesus entered Jerusalem to a hero’s welcome, riding a donkey as crowds cheered and laid palm branches in His path. He spent His days teaching at the Temple, but in the shadows, His disciple Judas Iscariot conspired with religious leaders to betray Him for money.

On the night of the Passover, Jesus shared a final meal with His disciples. He broke bread and shared wine, identifying them as His body and blood—a new covenant for the forgiveness of sins. During this "Last Supper," He revealed that one of them would betray Him and predicted that Peter would deny Him three times before the next morning.

Later that night, while praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus was arrested after Judas identified Him with a kiss. Though Peter briefly tried to fight, Jesus healed a wounded guard and surrendered, leading His terrified disciples to scatter.

Jesus was first brought before the High Priest, where He was accused of blasphemy for claiming to be the Son of God. Outside in the courtyard, Peter fulfilled the prophecy by denying he knew Jesus three times, weeping bitterly when he realized what he had done.

Finally, Jesus was taken to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate. Though Pilate found no crime in Him, the crowd, stirred up by the priests, demanded the release of a criminal named Barabbas instead. Seeking to appease the mob, Pilate had Jesus beaten and mocked with a crown of thorns. Despite Jesus’s declaration that His kingdom was "not of this world," Pilate succumbed to the pressure and handed Him over to be crucified.

Little Rich Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1 – 10)

In the bustling city of Jericho, a wealthy but dishonest chief tax collector named Zacchaeus desperately wanted to see Jesus. Being a man of short stature and faced with an immense crowd, he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to catch a glimpse of the teacher.

To the crowd's surprise, Jesus stopped beneath the branches, looked up, and called Zacchaeus by name, announcing that He intended to stay at his home. While the townspeople grumbled that Jesus would associate with such a notorious sinner, Zacchaeus was deeply moved.

Standing before Jesus, Zacchaeus’s heart changed instantly. He pledged to give half his wealth to the poor and repay anyone he had cheated four times over. Seeing this sincere transformation, Jesus declared that salvation had come to the house, reminding everyone that He had come specifically to find and save those who were lost.

Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead

(Luke 10:38–39; John 11:1–57)

Jesus was close friends with Mary, Martha, and their brother Lazarus. When Lazarus became very sick, the sisters sent for Jesus. But Jesus waited two days before traveling to Bethany, telling His disciples that Lazarus had died and that this would help them believe in Him.

By the time Jesus arrived, Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days, and many people had come to comfort Mary and Martha. Martha told Jesus she believed God would give Him whatever He asked and that Lazarus would rise again someday. Jesus told her that He Himself is the resurrection and the life, and that those who believe in Him will live forever.

Mary also came to Jesus, crying. Seeing her sadness, Jesus was deeply moved and wept. He went to the tomb and told the people to roll the stone away, even though Martha worried about the smell.

Jesus prayed to the Father and then called out loudly, “Lazarus, come out!” Lazarus came out of the tomb alive, still wrapped in burial cloths. Jesus told the people to free him.

Many who witnessed this miracle believed in Jesus, but some reported it to the Pharisees. Because of this, the religious leaders began planning to kill Jesus—and even Lazarus—since many people were now following Him.

(Mathew 18:1-6; 19:13-15; Mark 9:33–37, 10:13–16; Luke 18:15–17)

Jesus showed great love and care for children during His ministry. When a royal official asked Him to heal his dying son, Jesus simply said, “Your son will live.” The man believed Jesus and went home, discovering that his son was healed at the exact moment Jesus spoke. Because of this miracle, the official and his family believed in Jesus.

Another time, Jesus’ disciples argued about who was the greatest. Jesus called a child to Himself and taught them that to enter God’s kingdom, they must be humble like a child.

Later, people brought children to Jesus so He could bless them, but the disciples tried to stop them. Jesus became upset and told them to let the children come to Him. He said that the kingdom of heaven belongs to those who are like children. Then Jesus blessed the children lovingly.

Jesus, the Good Shepherd (John 10:1 – 30)

Jesus compared Himself to a good shepherd. He said that anyone who wants to belong to His flock must come through Him. His sheep listen to His voice, follow Him, and are safe with Him. Other voices, like thieves or robbers, try to harm the sheep, but the sheep do not follow them.

Jesus said He came to give His followers a full and abundant life. Unlike a hired worker who runs away when danger comes, Jesus cares deeply for His sheep and is willing to give His life for them. He also said He has other sheep to bring in so there will be one united flock.

Jesus explained that He gives eternal life to His followers and protects them. No one can take His sheep away from Him.

Jesus Heals Many People

(Luke 17:11–19; 18:35–43)

Wherever Jesus went, people sought Him for healing. In the region of Tyre and Sidon, a Canaanite woman begged Jesus to free her daughter from a demon. Despite an initial refusal, her persistent faith moved Jesus to heal her child.

Later, while travelling between Galilee and Samaria, Jesus encountered ten men with leprosy. He told them to show themselves to the priests, and they were healed on the way. Only one—a Samaritan—returned to thank Him, and Jesus praised the man’s faith.

Near Jericho, a blind beggar called out to Jesus despite the crowd trying to silence him. Jesus asked what he wanted and restored his sight because of his faith. The healed man followed Jesus, praising God, and the people praised God as well.

Jesus told three stories to show God’s joy when lost people return to Him. First, He described a shepherd who leaves ninety-nine sheep to find one lost sheep and rejoices when he brings it home. Next, He told of a woman who loses one coin, searches carefully until she finds it, and celebrates with her friends. Finally, Jesus told the story of a father with two sons. The younger son takes his inheritance, wastes it, and ends up poor and hungry. When he returns home in repentance, his father joyfully welcomes him back and celebrates. The older brother becomes angry, feeling it is unfair, but the father explains that they must rejoice because the lost son has returned. These stories teach that God eagerly seeks, forgives, and celebrates every person who comes back to Him.

A Kind Person (Luke 10:25 – 37)

Jesus was often questioned by people trying to trap Him, and He sometimes answered with stories. When a religious leader asked how to receive eternal life, Jesus pointed him to Scripture. The man correctly answered: love God fully and love your neighbor as yourself. Wanting to justify himself, he asked, “Who is my neighbor?”

Jesus told a story: A man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho was attacked and left half-dead. A priest and then a temple worker saw him but passed by without helping. A Samaritan—someone Jews normally avoided—stopped, cared for the man’s wounds, and brought him to an inn, promising to cover all costs.

Jesus asked who had been a true neighbor. The religious leader answered, “The one who helped him.” Jesus said, “Go and do the same.”

Jesus Shows His Divine Nature (The Transfiguration)

(Matthew 16:21–17:13; Mark 8:27–9:13; Luke 9:28–36)

Jesus traveled through many villages, teaching, healing, and preparing His disciples for what was to come. He told them He would suffer, be killed, and rise again after three days. One day, Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain. There, Jesus’ appearance changed—His face shone like the sun and His clothes became dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appeared and spoke with Him about His coming death in Jerusalem. The disciples, suddenly fully awake, saw Jesus in His glory. Frightened, Peter suggested building three shelters for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. Then a cloud surrounded them, and God’s voice said, “This is My Son, whom I love. Listen to Him!” When the cloud lifted, only Jesus remained. As they descended the mountain, Jesus instructed them not to tell anyone what they had seen until He had risen from the dead. The disciples obeyed but wondered what “rising from the dead” meant.

A Miracle Meal​

(Matthew 14:13–21; Mark 6, 30–44; Luke 9:10–17; John 6:1–15)

Jesus traveled from village to village teaching and healing, and later sent out His twelve disciples in pairs with authority to teach, heal, and cast out evil spirits. When they returned, crowds were so large they could not rest, so Jesus took them to a quiet place across the Sea of Galilee. However, another crowd arrived there first. Seeing they were like sheep without a shepherd, Jesus taught them.

As the day grew late, the disciples urged Jesus to send the people away for food, but Jesus told them to feed the crowd. A boy had five loaves and two fish, but it seemed far too little. Jesus had the people sit in groups, blessed the food, and gave it to the disciples to distribute. Everyone ate until full, and twelve baskets of leftovers were collected. The crowd recognized the miracle and thought Jesus was the promised Prophet, but when they wanted to make Him king, He withdrew alone to the mountain.

Jesus Heals Jairus’ Daughter (Matthew 9:18–19, 23–26; Mark 5:21–24, 35–43; Luke 8:40–42, 49–56)

After calming the storm, Jesus arrived safely with His disciples and was welcomed by a crowd. Among them was Jairus, a synagogue ruler, who begged Jesus to heal his dying 12-year-old daughter. While they were on the way, news came that the girl had died, but Jesus told Jairus to believe. At the house, mourners laughed when Jesus said the girl was only sleeping. Jesus took Peter, James, John, and the girl’s parents into the room, took her hand, and said, “Talitha koumi” (“Little girl, get up”). She immediately came back to life and stood up, amazing her parents. Jesus told them to give her food and to keep the miracle quiet.

After teaching all day, Jesus and His disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee. A sudden storm arose, and the waves began to fill the boat, but Jesus was asleep. Frightened, the disciples woke Him, asking for help. Jesus calmed the wind and waves with His command, and everything became still. The disciples were amazed and wondered who Jesus was, that even the wind and sea obeyed Him.

Preaching of God’s Word (Matthew 13:1–23; Mark 4:1–20; Luke 8:1–15)

Jesus taught a large crowd by the Sea of Galilee using a parable about a farmer planting seeds. Some seeds fell on the path, some on rocky ground, some among thorns, and some on good soil. Only the seeds on good soil grew and produced a rich crop. Jesus explained that the seeds represent God’s Word and the soils represent people’s hearts—some reject it, some lose faith in hardship, some are distracted by worldly worries, but those with open hearts receive God’s Word and grow strong in faith, producing good results.

Jesus Cares for the Samaritan Woman (4:1 – 42)

When the Jewish religious leaders became angry and jealous of Jesus’ growing popularity, He left Judea and traveled to Galilee, passing through Samaria. At a well near the town of Sychar, Jesus met a Samaritan woman and asked her for a drink. Surprised that a Jew would speak to her, the woman questioned Him, and Jesus told her about the “living water” that brings eternal life.

Jesus revealed that He knew about her past and declared that He was the Messiah. The woman ran back to town, telling others to come see Him. Many Samaritans came, listened to Jesus, and believed in Him. Jesus stayed with them for two days, and even more people came to faith, saying they now believed because they had heard for themselves that Jesus truly is the Savior of the world.

Jesus went to Capernaum and taught in the synagogue on the Sabbath. The people were amazed by His authority. During His teaching, a man possessed by a demon shouted, recognizing Jesus as the Holy One of God. Jesus commanded the demon to be silent and leave the man, and it obeyed. The crowd was astonished at His power over evil spirits, and news of this event spread quickly throughout Galilee.

Jesus’ First Miracle (John 2:1–22)

Jesus, His disciples, and His mother Mary attended a wedding in Cana. When the wine ran out, Mary asked Jesus for help. Though hesitant, Jesus instructed the servants to fill six stone jars with water, which He miraculously turned into wine. This was His first miracle, showing His divine power and leading His disciples to believe in Him.

After the wedding, Jesus traveled to Capernaum with His family and disciples. Soon after, He went to Jerusalem for the Passover. At the temple, He found merchants and money changers and drove them out, declaring that God’s house should not be a marketplace. When challenged about His authority, Jesus said, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up,” referring to His body and resurrection. Later, His disciples remembered His words and believed the Scriptures.

The First Disciples (Mark 1:16–20; 3:16–19; John 1:35–51)

When John the Baptist pointed Jesus out as "The Lamb of God," two of John's followers, including Andrew, followed Jesus. Andrew then brought his brother, Simon Peter, to meet Jesus, who gave Simon the new name Cephas (Peter), meaning "rock."

Jesus continued to call others, such as Philip and Nathanael, and fishermen by the Sea of Galilee, whom he promised to make "fishers of men." These men immediately left their professions to follow him.

Ultimately, Jesus chose twelve men to be his disciples, such as 1. Simon (also called Peter), 2. James, 3. John, 4. Andrew, 5. Philip, 6. Bartholomew, 7. Matthew, 8. Thomas, 9. James the son Alphaeus, 10. Thaddaeus, 11. Simon the Zealot, and 12. Judas Iscariot. Judas Iscariot would later betray Jesus. These twelve disciples then followed Jesus everywhere for the next three years of his ministry on earth.

Jesus Is Baptized (Matthew 3:13–17; Mark 1:9–13; Luke 3:21–23; John 1:32–34)

At the age of 30, Jesus was baptized by his cousin, John the Baptist, in the Jordan River. Although John initially felt unworthy, Jesus insisted it was necessary to fulfill God's plan. Following the baptism, the heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus like a dove, and a voice from God the Father declared, "This is My Son. I love Him. I am very pleased with Him."

Immediately after, the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert, where he fasted and prayed for 40 days. During this time, the devil tempted him, trying to derail his mission. Jesus successfully resisted every temptation by quoting God's Holy Word. After the devil departed, angels came and ministered to him.

Jesus Growing Up (Matthew 2:1 – 23; Luke 2:21 – 52)

When Jesus was 40 days old, Mary and Joseph brought Him to the temple to offer sacrifices, as God’s law required. There they met Simeon, a faithful man, and Anna, a prophetess. Both recognized Jesus as the Savior God had promised.

Sometime later, Wise Men from the east followed a star to find the newborn King. They first visited King Herod in Jerusalem, who became jealous and secretly plotted to kill Jesus. The star led the Wise Men to Bethlehem, where they worshiped Jesus and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. God warned them not to return to Herod. Joseph was also warned in a dream to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt, where they stayed until Herod’s death. Afterward, the family returned to Nazareth, where Jesus grew in wisdom, strength, and favor with God and people.

When Jesus was twelve, He went with His parents to Jerusalem for the Passover. On the way home, Mary and Joseph realized Jesus was missing and returned to search for Him. After three days, they found Him in the temple, listening to the teachers and asking questions that amazed everyone. Jesus told His parents He was in His Father’s house, but they did not fully understand. He returned to Nazareth with them, obeyed His parents, and continued to grow in wisdom and stature.

Jesus the Savior Is Born (Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-56; 2:1-20)

Mary, a young woman from Nazareth engaged to Joseph, was visited by the angel Gabriel, who told her she would give birth to God’s Son, Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph also received a message from an angel in a dream, reassuring him to marry Mary and name the baby Jesus.

At that time, Caesar Augustus ordered a census, so Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem, Joseph’s ancestral town. While there, Mary gave birth to Jesus in a stable because there was no room at the inn. She laid Him in a manger.

That night, shepherds in the fields were visited by angels who announced the Savior’s birth. The angels praised God, and the shepherds hurried to Bethlehem, where they found Jesus just as the angel had said. They spread the good news, and Mary treasured these things in her heart. The shepherds returned to their fields, glorifying and praising God.

John the Baptist (Matthew 3:1–12; Mark 1:1–8; Luke 1:5–25, 57–80; 3:1-20)

John the Baptist was a pivotal figure chosen by God to prepare the Israelites for the coming of the promised Savior, Jesus.

He was miraculously born to elderly, devout parents, Zechariah and Elizabeth, as foretold by the angel Gabriel. His divine mission was to be a powerful prophet, living a simple and rugged life in the desert, much like the prophet Elijah.

As an adult, John preached a strong message of repentance and baptism for the forgiveness of sins. Although many people wondered if he was the Savior, John made it clear that his role was only to be a forerunner. He famously stated that he was not worthy to untie the sandals of the one coming after him, who was far more powerful and would baptize with the Holy Spirit.

Queen Esther Saves Her People (Esther 1 – 10)

After many Jews remained in Persia, a young Jewish woman named Esther was chosen by King Xerxes to become queen. Her cousin Mordecai, who had raised her, once saved the king’s life, but later angered the king’s advisor Haman by refusing to bow to him. Haman became so furious that he plotted to destroy all the Jews in the kingdom.

Haman convinced the king to sign a law allowing all Jews to be killed. Mordecai urged Esther to risk her life by going to the king and asking for mercy. Esther and the Jews fasted and prayed, and Esther bravely approached the king. He welcomed her and asked what she wanted.

At two banquets, Esther revealed Haman’s evil plan and asked the king to spare her people. Furious, the king had Haman executed and made Mordecai his new advisor. A new law allowed the Jews to defend themselves. God saved His people, and they celebrated with days of feasting and joy.

Daniel in the Lions’ Den (Daniel 6)

Daniel, a faithful servant of God, rose to a high position in Babylon under King Darius. Other officials became jealous and tricked the king into making a law that no one could pray to anyone except the king for 30 days—or be thrown into a den of lions.

Though Daniel knew the law, he continued to pray to God three times a day. The jealous men caught him and brought him before the king. Though Darius cared for Daniel, he was forced to obey the law and had Daniel thrown into the lions’ den.

That night, the king couldn’t sleep. At dawn, he rushed to the den and called out to Daniel. God had sent an angel to shut the lions’ mouths, and Daniel was unharmed! Overjoyed, the king had Daniel lifted out and punished his accusers.

Then King Darius issued a new decree declaring that everyone must honor the God of Daniel, the living God who saves and performs wonders. Daniel continued to prosper under Darius’s rule.

The Fiery Furnace (Daniel 1 – 3)

After the people of Israel disobeyed God for many years, He allowed foreign nations to conquer them. The Babylonians, led by King Nebuchadnezzar, took many young men from Judah into captivity, including Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These four men remained faithful to God and were given wisdom and high positions in the king’s palace.

King Nebuchadnezzar built a giant golden idol and commanded everyone to bow down to it. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused. The king angrily threw them into a fiery furnace, but God protected them. The fire did not harm them, and a fourth figure—like the Son of God—appeared with them in the flames.

Amazed, the king called them out and praised the God of Israel for His power. He made a new law to honor God and promoted the three men to even higher positions in Babylon.

Jonah and the Great Big Fish (Jonah 1 – 4)

God told the prophet Jonah to go to Nineveh and warn the people to turn from their evil ways. But Jonah didn’t want to go, so he ran away by boarding a ship heading in the opposite direction.

God sent a powerful storm, and the sailors discovered that Jonah was the cause. At Jonah’s request, they threw him into the sea, and the storm immediately stopped. Then, a big fish swallowed Jonah, and he stayed in its belly for three days and nights, praying to God.

God had the fish spit Jonah out onto dry land. This time, Jonah obeyed and went to Nineveh. He warned the people that the city would be destroyed in 40 days. The people and their king repented, fasted, and prayed for mercy. Seeing their sincere hearts, God forgave them and did not destroy the city.

Elijah Taken Up in​ a Fiery Chariot (1 Kings 19; 2 Kings 2:1 – 22)

After Elijah defeated the prophets of Baal, Queen Jezebel threatened to kill him. Elijah fled into the wilderness, discouraged and afraid. God sent an angel to care for him and gave him strength to travel to Mount Horeb. There, God spoke to Elijah through a gentle whisper, not through powerful signs.

God told Elijah to anoint Jehu as king and Elisha as his prophetic successor. Elisha followed Elijah and became his loyal assistant.

Later, God took Elijah to heaven in a chariot of fire and a whirlwind. Elisha received a double portion of Elijah’s spirit and continued serving faithfully as God’s prophet in Israel.

Elijah Defeats the Prophets of Baal (1 Kings 16 – 19)

After King Solomon, many kings in Israel turned away from God. One of the worst was King Ahab, who led the people to worship Baal, a false god. Ahab even threatened to kill anyone who worshiped the true God. But 7,000 Israelites remained faithful, including a prophet named Elijah.

God sent Elijah to tell Ahab that no rain would fall in Israel for years as punishment. A great drought came, causing famine. To protect Elijah, God led him to a valley where He provided water from a brook and food from ravens each day.

After three years, God sent Elijah back to Ahab to challenge him to a contest on Mount Carmel to prove who the real God was. Hundreds of Baal’s prophets prayed for fire from heaven, but nothing happened. Elijah mocked them, knowing Baal was not real.

Then Elijah built an altar to God, soaked it with 12 jars of water, and prayed. God sent fire from heaven that burned the altar, the sacrifice, and even the water. The people were amazed and declared, “God is the true God!”

Elijah then had the prophets of Baal arrested and removed. After that, God sent rain back to Israel.

Proverbs share the wisdom of God in short, meaningful sayings. They are designed to help people live according to God’s way. They give people wisdom about things that are important to God. The Proverbs teach people to:

• Trust in the Lord and rely on His understanding
• Respect God and turn away from evil
• Honor God through offerings and acts of kindness
• Raise children in ways that please God
• Value wisdom from God more than wealth or status

Through Proverbs, Solomon helped people understand how to live a life that pleases God’s Will.

Wise King Solomon (1 Kings 1 – 3; 6 – 8)

As King David neared death, he instructed his son Solomon to be strong and obedient to God's commands to ensure success. After David died, Solomon became king. One night, God appeared to Solomon in a dream and told him to ask for anything. Solomon humbly asked for wisdom to govern the people justly. God was pleased and granted him great wisdom, along with riches and honor.

Solomon soon displayed his wisdom when two women came to him with a dispute over a baby. Both claimed to be the child's mother. Solomon proposed to divide the baby, prompting the real mother to offer to give up her child to save his life. Solomon then declared her the true mother.​Solomon’s fame for wisdom spread far and wide.

In his fourth year as king, he began building a magnificent temple for the Lord in Jerusalem. He partnered with King Hiram of Tyre for materials. The temple was built with care and adorned with gold, carvings, and sacred furnishings. After seven years, the Ark of the Covenant was placed in the Most Holy Place, and God's glory filled the temple.

To dedicate the temple, Solomon offered thousands of sacrifices and held a fourteen-day celebration. He ruled Israel wisely for 40 years.

David’s Grave Sin (2 Samuel 11–12:25; Psalm 51)

Some years later, in the spring, the Israelite armies went out to battle against the Ammonites. The leader of the Israelite army was a man named Joab. King David remained in Jerusalem. One evening, while the armies were gone, David got up and walked around on the roof of his palace. From his roof, he saw a beautiful woman taking a bath. The moreDavid looked at the woman, the more he wished she were his.

King David sent a messenger to find out who the woman was. David did not think about Uriah, who was out fighting for him. David did not think about God’s commandment, which says, “You shall not commit adultery.” David did not think about the fact that he was stealing another man’s wife. David only thought about what he wanted.

When Bathsheba arrived at the palace, King David made love to her. A few weeks later, she sent a message to King David to tell him that she was pregnant. David knew the baby was his. He knew that soon everyone would know that he had stolen Uriah’s wife. So King David came up with a plan to try to cover up his sin.

King David sent a letter to Joab, ordering Uriah’s murder. After Uriah died, King David made her his wife. But God was not pleased with what David had done. So God sent His prophet Nathan to go and tell King David the parable about a very rich man who had many flocks of sheep, but instead of killing one of his sheep to eat, he took the and killed the poorman's only precious lamb.

David was horrified. He said, “The rich man deserves to die for doing such a thing!” Nathan replied, “You are that man!King David confessed to Nathan, and Nathan told King David, “The Lord has taken away your sin. You will not die. But the son who has been born to you will die.”

Finally, God made King David and Bathsheba’s son very sick, and he died. Sometime later, another son was born to King David and Bathsheba. The boy was named Solomon.

King David (1 Samuel 27–31; 2 Samuel 1–10; 13–24)

After David killed Goliath, King Saul became very jealous of him. Eventually, King Saul became so jealous that he tried to kill David on numerous occasions. To keep himself safe, David and his 600 men escaped from Israel and lived for a time in the land of the Philistines. God was no longer with King Saul. Eventually, Saul was killed in a battle with the Philistines. It was now safe for David to return to Israel. Even though Saul had tried to kill him many times, David was sad that Saul had died.

David was 30 years old when he became king. King David captured the city of Jerusalem from the Jebusites. Because God was with him, David became more and more powerful. With God’s help, David and Israel’s army defeated the Philistines and drove them out of the land.

David wanted Jerusalem to be God’s city. So David and 30,000 of the best soldiers in Israel brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. David set up a special tabernacle for it.

King David wanted to build a beautiful temple in which to house the Ark of the Covenant.​ One night, God told Nathan to tell David that when he dies, one of his own sons will become Israel’s king. David’s son will be the one to build God's temple and David's throne will last forever. This was a wonderful covenant that God made with King David.

David Defeated Powerful Giant (1 Samuel 15 – 17)

At first, Saul proved to be a good king and strong leader. He rescued the people from their enemies, the Ammonites. Saul grew strong and powerful in Israel. God directed all that Saul did through Samuel. But Saul began to want his own way more and more. He disobeyed God’s commands about when to go into battle. He disobeyed other instructions God gave him.

God spoke to Samuel​​ that He is sorry that He has made Saul king. So Samuel told Saul, “Because you have disobeyed God, your sons will not be kings after you. Instead, God will find a new king for Israel who will obey Him and follow His laws.

After a time, God told Samuel to​ go to Bethlehem to anoint and choose David, Jesse's youngest son to be king. Samuel went to Bethlehem and anointed David under God's guidance.

The leader of the Philistines was a man named Goliath. Goliath stood over nine feet tall. He always stood and called out to the armies of Israel to fight him one-on-one. When King Saul and his men heard Goliath’s words, they were terrified.

Then one day David came into the camp to visit his brothers who were soldiers in the army. As David was talking with his brothers, Goliath stepped forward and shouted out his daily dare. David saw how afraid all of the Israelite soldiers were of Goliath he then went up to ask King Saul's approval to challenge Goliath.

After receiving the green light from King Saul, David then walked to a small brook to choose five smooth stones and put them in his pouch. With his sling in his hand, he ran quickly by reaching into his pouch and put a stone in his sling, and hurled it at the giant. The stone struck Goliath in the forehead and sank into it. The giant fell face down on the ground. Then David ran over to Goliath. He took Goliath’s sword out of its sheath and cut off Goliath’s head with it.

Israel’s First King: Saul (1 Samuel 4 – 11; 13 – 14)

Samson’s and Israel’s old enemy, the Philistines, grew strong again. They fought against Israel and triumphed over them. In one battle, the Philistines even stole the Ark of the Covenant from the tabernacle. When Eli the priest heard this news, he fell and broke his neck.

The Philistines thought that by capturing the Ark of the Covenant that they had won power over God. But when they placed the Ark in the temple of their god Dagon, God caused the statue of Dagon to fall over and break. Then God punished the Philistines with an illness that caused tumors in their bodies. The Philistines were scared. They decided to send the Ark back to Israel. Their cows pulled a cart with the Ark on it back to Israel.

For the next 20 years the people of Israel were filled with sorrow. Samuel became their judge when Eli died. Samuel was the last of the judges God gave to the people. The people listened to Samuel. God used His powerful hand against the Philistines for as long as Samuel lived. The Philistines didn’t attack them again.

When Samuel became old, the elders of Israel came to Samuel to demand him to appoint a king to lead them. Their words hurt Samuel, and then he told God about their demand. But God encouraged him that the Israelites did not abandon Samuel, but abandoned Him.

After that, God told Samuel to agree with their demands. Finally, God led Samuel to a man named Saul. Saul was tall and handsome. Saul was who God chose to be Israel’s first king.

Samuel Dedicated to God (1 Samuel 1 – 3)

During the time when Samson was a judge, a woman named Hannah lived in the hill country of Ephraim, and she was one of the wives of a man named Elkanah. Because she did not have a child, Peninnah, the second wife, always teased her until she was so upset that she cried and wouldn’t eat.

Years passed by. One year when Hannah and Elkanah were at the tabernacle for worship, Hannah prayed to God and made a promise to Him that if God helped her to have a child, she would give him back to serve God all his life.​God answered her prayer. When her son was born, Hannah named him Samuel.

When Samuel grew old enough to be able to put on his own clothes, Hannah brought him to Eli the priest​ so that Samuel could serve God at the tabernacle with him as she had promised to God.

Eli loved Samuel and treated him like he was his own son. Eli taught Samuel all about God and how to be a servant in God’s tabernacle.

One night as Samuel slept by the lampstand in the Holy Place near the Ark of the Covenant, God called his name 3 times and spoke to him to tell Eli about the sins of his two sons.

From that time on, God often spoke to Samuel. People soon learned that God spoke with Samuel. More and more people came to Samuel for advice. Samuel became a prophet while he was still a boy because God was speaking to him about things that would happen. Samuel continued to grow. God was with him and made everything he said come true.

Ruth (Ruth 1 – 4)

During the time that Israel was ruled by the Judges, a man of God named Elimelech lived in Bethlehem with his wife Naomi and their two sons. One year the harvest was so poor that Elimelech did not have enough food to feed his family. So he and his family went to live in the nearby country of Moab.

While they lived in Moab, Elimelech died. Naomi was now a widow. But her two sons were now old enough to marry. They married women from Moab. These two women were named Orpah and Ruth.

After a time, more sadness came to Naomi and her two daughters-in-law when the two sons of Naomi died. When Naomi heard that the famine in Bethlehem was over, she decided to return home with only Ruth, who insisted on going with her by saying that “Where you go, I’ll go. Where you stay, I’ll stay. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”

In Bethlehem, because neither Naomi nor Ruth had a husband, they did not have any land of their own from which to get food. So Ruth went out and began to pick up grain in a field that was owned by a very kind man named Boaz, who was a relative of Naomi’s husband.

Finally, under Naomi's guidance, Ruth married Boaz, and they lived happily. Later, under God's blessings, they both had a son and became the great-grandmother and great-grandfather of King David.

Samson (Judges 13 – 16)

After Gideon died, the people once again turned away from God. Eventually, God allowed the Philistines to rule over them. But God once again gave the people of Israel a new leader and judge whose name Samson. Samson never allowed anyone to cut his hair. God blessed Samson with great strength. As a young man, Samson killed a lion with his bare hands!

For many years, the Philistines tried to capture Samson. But filled with strength from God, Samson single-handedly fought off the Philistines.

Some years later, Samson fell in love with a woman named Delilah. The Philistines found out about this. Secretly, they visited Delilah and made an agreement with her. If Delilah could discover the secret of Samson’s strength, the Philistines would pay her more than a thousand pieces of silver. Delilah agreed to carry out this plan.

Delilah tried to get Samson to tell her the secret of his great strength. At first, Samson tried to lie to her many times. But when Samson got tired of her questions, he decided to tell her the secret of his great strength: if his head was shaved, his great strength would disappear.

Delilah got Samson to go to sleep on her lap. As Samson slept, she had a man shave Samson’s seven braids off his head. Immediately, Samson’s strength left him, and the Philistines easily captured him, bound him, and put him in prison, gouging out both of his eyes.

One day, the Philistines held a big party in their temple to celebrate their god Dagon, and they brought Samson to make fun of him. Finally, Samson, whose hair had grown back, prayed to God, and God gave him back his great strength, and he pushed down the pillars of Dagon's temple, killing everyone there, including himself.

Gideon, A Reluctant Leader (Judges 6 – 7)

Joshua faithfully followed God as he led the Israelites for many years. Under Joshua’s leadership, separate areas in the land of Canaan were given to each of the 12 tribes of Israel. The people of Israel spread throughout the land of Canaan. As long as Joshua lived, the Israelites served the Lord. But after Joshua died, the Israelites forgot about God. They did not follow God’s Law. They worshipped other gods. So God allowed robbers from other nations to come into Canaan and steal the Israelites’ food and animals. God allowed enemy armies to enter Canaan. When the people tried to fight these enemies, the enemies won because God’s power was against the Israelites.

Then the Lord gave the Israelites leaders who saved them from the power of the enemies and the robbers. These leaders followed God. These leaders were called judges. One of the judges God gave to His people was named Gideon. God chose Gideon to lead the Israelites at a time when they were being ruled by the people of Midian. The Midianites treated the Israelites very badly. The Israelites were forced to hide from the Midianites in holes in the mountains and in caves.

At first, Gideon was reluctant to follow God, but after he tested God, he knew for sure that God wanted him to be a leader and judge in Israel. He prepared for battle against the Midianites by choosing only 300 soldiers through God's guidance.

With His great plan, God gave Gideon and the Israelites victory over a much larger army of enemies. During the 40 years that Gideon was judge, there was peace in Israel.

Jericho is Destroyed (Numbers 13–14; 27:12–23; Deuteronomy 34; Joshua 1-2; 5:13-6:27)

After many years of traveling in the wilderness, the Israelites came to the edge of Canaan, the land God had promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob many, many years. After Moses died God said to Joshua and his people to get ready to go across the Jordan River to go into the promised land.

Joshua sent two spies to check out Jericho and stayed with a woman named Rahab hid them. The two spies returned to Joshua. “It is true,” they reported. “God has given this city into our hands. The residents of Jericho are melting in fear because of us.”

When all the Israelites were safely across the Jordan River as God commanded, "March around the city once with all of your fighting men. Do this for six straight days. Have seven priests get seven trumpets made out of ram’s horns. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times. Have the priests blow the trumpets as you march. When the priests blow a loud blast on the trumpets, have all the men give a loud shout. The walls of the city will fall and the whole army will be able to enter Jericho.”

Moses Not Allowed to Enter​ the Promised Land (Numbers 20:1–12; 22–29; Deuteronomy 3:21–28; 32:48–52; 34:1–12)

The Israelite people whom Moses and Aaron led for forty years were not the only ones who sinned during the trek to the land of Canaan. Moses and Aaron also disobeyed God. It was when God told Moses to tell the rock to give water so that the people and their cattle could drink. Instead of telling the rock to yield water as God had commanded him, Moses instead used his staff and hit the rock twice.

Therefore, when Moses wanted to cross the Jordan and see the Promised Land. But because of his sin at the rock in the wilderness, God would not allow Moses to cross into Canaan. Instead, God chose a young man named Joshua to be the one who would lead the people into Canaan.

Finally, God led Moses, who was 120 years old, to the top ofMount Nebo and showed him the whole land He had promised to give His people. Then Moses died, and God Himself buried Moses in Moab.

Look and Live (The Bronze Serpent) (Numbers 21:4–9)

As the people traveled away from their destination, they became impatient. The Israelites spoke against God and Moses. God heard the people’s complaints and became angry. He sent fiery serpents among them. They bit the Israelites so that many of them died.

Moses prayed to God for the Israelites, and God told Moses to make a bronze serpent and set it on a pole so that everyone who is bitten, when they look at this serpent, will live.

Therefore, whenever anyone who was bitten and who looked at the serpent trusted in God to save them would live.

God’s Law for Our Lives (The Ten Commandments) (Exodus 19:20–21; Chapters 32–34)

The Israelites continued their journey through the desert to the land which God promised them. Exactly three months after they had left Egypt, the people arrived at Mount Sinai,​set up camp at the base of the mountain. Moses climbed up the mountain to talk to God, and God Himself carved these ten laws or commandments on two large, flat stone tablets so that Moses could teach these commandments and instructions to God’s people.

While Moses was away on the mountain for forty days, the Israelites asked Aaron to make some new gods by melting their golden earrings to make a golden calf for them to worship.

When Moses went down the mountain and saw his people worshiping the golden calf, he became so angry. He then threw the stone tablets on the ground. The tablets broke into pieces at the foot of Mount Sinai.

However, after he prayed to God to forgive the Israelites, God wrote all of His Laws and commands from the first tablets on the two new tablets and gave them to Moses. Moses carried the tablets back to the camp and read them to the people.

Wilderness Woes and Relief (Exodus 15:22 – 17:7)

After God’s amazing rescue of His people at the Red Sea, Moses led them away from the sea and into the wilderness. The wilderness land was a desert. It was hot and dry. There was little water.

After a few days, the people came to Marah where they found water. But the water there was so bitter the people complained to Moses. God changed the bitter water into sweet, drinkable water.

Later, they arrived in the wilderness of Sin and complained to God again. God provided them the meat and bread, manna, to eat.

After a time, the Israelites moved from the Desert of Sin and continued to travel from place to place in the desert as the Lord told them. When they camped at a place called Rephidim, there was no water there. The Israelites complained to Moses. God told Moses to hit the rock at Mount Horeb and suddenly the water came out of the rock for the people to drink as much as they wanted.

The Red Sea Miracle (Exodus 13:17 – 15:21)

Moses led the people as they left Egypt. During the day​ God went ahead of them in a thick cloud. During the night, God went ahead of them in a flaming fire.

As Moses and the Israelites traveled, they came to the Red Sea. There they set up camp on the shore. Meanwhile, Pharaoh sent out his big armies to bring the Israelites back.

When the Israelites saw the Egyptian army approaching them, they were terrified. But As Moses reached his hand out over the Red Sea, God pushed the water back with a strong east wind. God parted the waters of the Red Sea and turned the sea into dry land​ so they could walk to another seashore.

All of Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and horsemen followed God’s people into the sea. At sunrise, the waters of the sea went back into place. The Egyptians tried to run from the sea, but God swept them into it. The water covered Pharaoh’s entire army. All of them drowned in the waters of the sea.

Plagues and Deliverance (Exodus 5 – 12)

Pharaoh did not listen to Moses, so God sent ten plagues over Egypt in order to let the Israelites leave Egypt as God desired.

1. First plague: God turned the water in Egypt into blood.

2. Second plague: God made frogs from the river, ponds, and streams come up out of the water and cover the land of Egypt

3. Third plague: God sent gnats to attack all of the people and animals of Egyptians.

4. Fourth plague: God sent flies swarmed in the Egyptian houses.

5. Fifth plague: all of the Egyptians' livestock died.

6. Sixth plague: God caused boils to come upon every person and animal in Egypt.

7. Seventh plague God sent huge hailstones that crushed every plant and all the crops in the fields over Egypt.

8. Eighth plague God sent locusts over Egypt.

9. Ninethplague was a plague of darkness.

10. Tenth plague is the death of all the firstborn boys of Egyptians including the firstborn boy of King Pharaoh.

Finally, King Pharaoh permitted Israelites to leave Egypt after they had lived there for 430 years.

Calling of Moses (Exodus 2 – 4)

Moses grew up in Pharaoh’s palace. Even when he had become a man, he remained there as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. But Moses knew that he was an Israelite. It angered him to see how the Egyptians were cruel to the Israelite slaves. One day as he went walking, Moses saw an Egyptian mistreating one of the Israelite slaves, he walked to rescue the Israelite by killing the Egyptian.

In fear, Moses escaped to Midian and began to work there as a shepherd for forty years and married Jethro’s daughter, Zipporah. Together, Moses and Zipporah had two sons.

One day in Midian, while Moses was watching over​ Jethro’s sheep he saw a very strange bush. The bush was on fire but did not burn up and just then, God appeared to him and called to him from inside the burning bush to go and lead the Israelites from Egypt, and during the conversation, God told His name to Moses.

Nile River Rescue (Exodus 1 – 2:10)

After Joseph and his family had died, their children, called​ the Israelites, still lived in Egypt but things did not go well because new pharaohs forced the Israelites to work as slaves. Their work was very hard and very long.

As the number of Israelites grew, the evil Pharaoh was even more worried that they soon would outnumber the Egyptians and take over their kingdom. So the Pharaoh made a cruel and terrible decision. He said that all of the baby boys of the Israelites must be killed.

After Pharaoh made his new law, an Israelite woman gave birth to a baby boy. She took care of him and kept him hidden from the Egyptian authorities for three months. But soon the baby boy became too big to hide any longer. To try and save her son from death, the woman hid her baby in the basket and sent it out on the Nile River.

After a short time, the daughter of Pharaoh​ came down to the Nile to take a bath. The princess saw the basket floating and sent her servant to bring the basket to her. The baby boy cried when the princess opened the basket, making the princess feel compassion for the little baby. Finally, she took the baby and raised him as her own by naming him "Moses".

God’s People in Slavery (Genesis 50:22 – 26; Exodus 1:1 – 22; 5:1 – 6:12)

Joseph, his father Jacob, and all of Joseph’s brothers and their families lived in Egypt for many years. The families of the Israelites grew and grew until there were many, many Israelites all over Egypt.

As time passed, Egypt had a new pharaoh in power as their king. This new pharaoh did not know about Joseph. This new king became very worried that there were too many Israelites and he placed slave masters over the Israelites and made them slaves. The Israelites were forced to work very hard under very difficult conditions. God’s people cried out to Him for help. God heard their cries. And God had a plan to rescue them from their slavery in Egypt.

Job Was Tested by Satan (Job 1 – 42)

During the time of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob lived a​man named Job. Job was an honest man. He respected​ God and avoided evil. Job had seven sons and three daughters. He was also very rich. Job owned thousands of sheep and camels along with many oxen and donkeys. Job had many servants.

One day, Satan came to see God to test Job's faith until Job lost everything including his health. Job did not blame God for any of the terrible things that had happened to him. During that time, even his friends and wife blamed him.

Finally, because of His mercy and grace, God made him healthy and successful again.

God Blesses Joseph (Genesis 37-47)

Exactly as God had led Joseph to explain Pharaoh's dream who is the king of Egypt. As the result, Joseph became the ruler of Egypt who controlled the amount of grain that was sold. When Joseph's older brothers came to buy grain in Egypt, they met Joseph, but Joseph pretended not to know them in order to trick them into seeing and keeping his blood-younger brother, Benjamin. At last, he later forgave his older brothers by saying that "am Joseph,​ your brother that you sold as a slave. Don’t be afraid of me. You did evil to me, but God turned it into something good.”

Finally, through Joseph When Jacob and his family arrived in Egypt, Pharaoh gave them a wonderful piece of land to live on in a place called Goshen. There Jacob and his family lived safely through the years of famine.

Joseph is Sold by His Brothers (Genesis 37, 39 – 41)

Jacob had twelve sons, but​ his favorite son was Joseph. Joseph was Jacob’s second youngest son. Jacob had a beautiful and very expensive coat made for Joseph. When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father Jacob loved Joseph best of all and had given him such an expensive gift, Joseph’s brothers became very jealous of Joseph and hated him and found ways to sell Joseph to merchants for twenty pieces of silver as a slave. When the merchants arrived in Egypt, they sold Joseph to be a slave to a man named Potiphar. Potiphar’s wife tried to make Joseph fall in love with her, but Joseph resisted her. Because Joseph would not love her, Potiphar’s wife made up lies about him. Potiphar believed his wife’s lies and had Joseph locked up in Pharaoh’s prison.

Even in prison, God was with Joseph and He even helped him to be able to interpret Pharaoh's very troubled dream. Pharaoh liked Joseph’s plan. Pharaoh took off his ring and gave it to Joseph. He gave Joseph royal robes to wear. In all of Egypt, only Pharaoh was greater than Joseph. Joseph was 30 years old when he began to serve Pharaoh.

Two Very Different Twin Brothers

(Jacob and Esau)​ Genesis 25 – 33

Rebekah did give birth to twins. The oldest twin had reddish skin and hair which covered his body like a coat. This twin was named Esau, which means “hairy.” The second twin was also a boy. As he was being born, he came out holding on to Esau’s heel. The second boy was named Jacob, which means “he takes by the heel” or “he cheats.” When the boys had grown up, Esau became a skillful hunter who liked to be out in the open country. Jacob was a quiet man who stayed back home inside the tents. Isaac’s favorite son was Esau because he liked to eat the meat of the wild animals Esau hunted. Jacob was Rebekah’s favorite.

Later, Jacob pretended to be Esau in order to get blessings from their old father, Isaac. Esau was so angry and planned to kill Jacob. But some years later, when Jacob returned home, Esau forgave his brother, Jacob.

God worked in the hearts of Jacob and Esau so they could be reconciled to one another.

Abraham’s Great Test Genesis 22:1 – 19

Abraham and Sarah loved their son Isaac very much. One

day while Isaac was still a boy, God​ had a very difficult test for Abraham. Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill his son as God had directed, But God provided him a ram as a burnt offering instead of Isaac. Abraham named that place, “The Lord will provide.”

Abraham’s love for God was so strong that he was willing to

sacrifice his son Isaac according to God’s command.

Evil Cities: Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18:16 – 19:29)

The men who lived in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were very evil. God knew all about the evil and sinful things that the people in the city were doing. When God and the two men visited Abraham outside his tent about a year before Isaac was born, God told Abraham that He planned to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. When Abraham heard about God’s plan, he became very worried about his nephew Lot. He did not want Lot and his family to die along with the evil people in Sodom and Gomorrah.

In His great love and mercy, God answered Abraham’s prayer and rescued Lot and his family from destruction.

God's Starry Promise to Abraham: Abraham was a very wealthy man. He owned many herds of cattle, sheep, and camels. One day God told him to leave his hometown and go to a new land that God would give him. So Abraham took Sarah and his nephew Lot and left as God had told him. God continued to bless Abraham and protected him from many dangers. The Lord kept His promise to Sarah and Abraham. Sarah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. Sarah was 90 years old and Abraham was 100 years old when their son was born. They named their baby Isaac.

The Tower of Babel: In the years after the great flood, Noah's sons Shem, Ham and Japeth had many sons and daughters. Everyone spoke one language. The people wanted to build a tall building that would reach all the way to Heaven. But God was not pleased with the people's proud and arrogant talk. The tall building was called Babel, which means "confusion." It was there that God confused the language of everyone in the world.

The Great Flood: From the time of Adam and Eve, God blessed His people so that their population grew and grew. Only Noah was righteous, but all the people on Earth had become very evil. God told Noah that He was going to send a huge flood for 40 days and 40 nights upon the Earth to destroy all the people because of all the evil in the world. God wanted to save Noah and his family from the deadly flood waters. God told Noah to build a giant ark (which took 120 years!). Because Noah followed and trusted God, God rescued him and his family from death in the flood.

Brothers Divided: Cain and Abel: It was a horrible sin when Cain murdered Abel. Yet, God had mercy on Cain and protected him. When we sin, God has mercy on us. He forgives our sins and loves us for Jesus' sake.

A Life-Saving Promise: Because of Adam and Eve’s sin, trouble was brought into the world. Pain, suffering, thorns, thistles, hard work that was no longer joyful, and physical death came into the world because Adam and Eve disobeyed God. The perfect paradise in the garden with God was lost for Adam and Eve. But God still loved them. God did not forget them. God promised them a Savior who would destroy sin, death, and the devil and restore our relationship with Him (Genesis 3:15). This Savior is Jesus, God’s Son.

God Creates a Perfect World describes how all the heavens and the earth were created. All of God’s creation displays His glory and might. By the seventh day, God had finished creating everything, so He rested. God blessed the seventh day and made it holy. By that day, God had completed all that He wanted to create.
