It’s a suicide prevention project started in 2018 for high school seniors that is designed to spread rays of hope and to be points of light to classmates and other students. Karen photographs seniors wearing the official HashtagHope shirts while they hold a sign displaying a message of hope that resonates with each student. These photos are then posted on social media sites and shared by students!

Karen has tapped into youth’s desire to help their fellow students, their connection to the themes of depression, negative self-talk, and suicide and their adept use of social media to create a movement that is making an impact!

Ryan is the fourth generation of Brooks entrepreneurs. His Great Grandparents started a chicken farm. His Grandparents started cooking and selling them, and his Dad and Mom-the largest indoor BBQ pit in the east.

Why only 4.9 stars? The reason is due to a characteristic common among most successful entrepreneurs. Can you guess what it is?

John freely expresses gratitude for the blessings and opportunities he and his family have and it is very evident throughout our interview. When entrepreneurs realize all they do have, they are usually able to serve others in a more complete way. John also displays the work ethic that most immigrant families relied on to get a foothold in a new country. A child of immigrants, he was born shortly after his parents arrived from Vietnam. Even though times were tough for John’s family, he is very lucky that his parents, his mom in particular, instilled such great values in him. John speaks fondly of watching his mom support other immigrants and also about his trip back to Vietnam where his mom reunited with friends and family decades after leaving.

Candace was looking forward to traveling abroad as she recently retired from her regular "day job". Then, the pandemic hit, and travel was canceled.

It's interesting that in the midst of trouble, some of us can find opportunities. Candace immediately started making, selling and donating masks. Then a friend told her there was a movie production company in town looking for a costume designer. Since Candace believes one should, "Say yes until you gotta say no", the rest, as they say, is movie making history!

Brenna is one of the rare individuals who recognized her passion’s calling at an early age. As a toddler, she enjoyed singing and dancing to the radio. Then theater, guitar lessons, and at 13 years old she performed her first solo show.

Along the way, she taught herself other stringed instruments, piano, and drums. It all started with Bill's parents Bill and Carolyn Bandera and their heart of giving and the desire they had to give back to their community.

In 1989 a small group of 68 people was served a free, hot, homemade meal at The American Legion Post 80 located in the city of Binghamton, NY.

The dinner is now served at multiple locations across three cities! Plus buffet lines and community gatherings for seniors in several additional locations.

The meal and fellowship, free for all people, has continued to blossom, including sit-down meals, take-out, and deliveries. Over 4000 meals are served-all on Christmas day!

Son, Bill Bandera, now heads an organization of hundreds of motivated volunteers as they endeavor to add yet another city to join the Christmas event.
