She explains how to build a baseline of inner safety so that you can stay regulated when your kids have big emotions or unwanted behaviours. You’ll learn why most popular parenting hacks don’t work for moms with trauma, what nervous system regulation actually looks like, and why timing is everything when it comes to feeling safe enough to co-regulate with your child.

In this episode, Danik talks about:

Why cognitive and "quick fix" parenting tools don't work when your nervous system doesn't feel safe

The difference between top-down and bottom-up nervous system regulation

Why the timing of your regulation practice is more important than the tools you use

❤️‍🩹 Let's have a free, 1:1 chat about your parenting struggles and strategize (no obligation)

You can connect with the host on Instagram, @danikhelpsmoms

DISCLAIMER:

This podcast is not meant to replace psychotherapy from a licensed mental health professional, does not give medical advice, is not a mental health assessment tool, and does not provide a diagnosis. I’m so excited to have you here and accompany you in this healing journey in motherhood. My name is Danik Bernier, and I'm a mom of two littles, a social worker, psychotherapist, and parenting coach. I can't tell you how excited I am to bring this podcast to life because I’ve been wanting to break the isolation and validate the experiences of moms with trauma for such a long time. You probably didn’t want to be a part of this club because of all the pain you had to go through in order to get here, but know that this is your space and you are welcome here, as your true authentic self. Tune in to today's episode as I tell you more about where I’ve been in the last year since the last episode aired, to gain a new perspective on healing in order to break trauma cycles, and to feel like you don’t have to be doing the healing work alone. It’s a heavy lift but it doesn’t have to be done in isolation.

If you want more support in your healing journey, I invite you to download my free guide to navigate anger and regulation and to join my email list. Today, I’m talking about the ways we can figure out for ourselves if we have trauma that needs healing as a postpartum mom. This episode, like every other, is not meant to replace an assessment or therapy provided by a mental health professional, but rather to expose the fact that trauma is subjective, and NO ONE can decide if what we went through was traumatic or not. We can have trauma symptoms even if we do not have PTSD.

As postpartum moms, we go through a lot. So it’s only natural to stop and think about how we feel in regards to certain things we went through during our perinatal journey – or the things we needed but were not given.

In this episode, I chat about:

How you can check-in with yourself to notice what your body is trying to tell you

How we can decide if something was traumatic or not

How to release the trauma so that you can go back to being a present mom

Connect with Danik:

Instagram: @danikhelpsmoms

Website: www.danikbernier.com

Schedule a free call with me

Resources from this episode:

Videos that explain EMDR Therapy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pkfln-ZtWeY&t=22s / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QJbCtr8bvA&t=15s / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5dfULBQpWw

Quote:

“It’s important to note that the definition of trauma is broader than we think. We’re quick to think about major life events that left us feeling terrorized or events that almost took our life.
