The goal is to get lingering thoughts out of your head so you can truly relax and recharge. Rest is not optional! It’s essential for coming back energized. And it's hard for us to get back into the mindset of them being basically preschoolers. So we're going to get into all these tips for everyone.

In this episode, we discuss the importance of refreshing expectations after the winter break. As teachers, we shouldn't assume that everything will be fine when students return to school, so it's crucial to proactively remind them about the classroom expectations to avoid behavior problems. I suggest starting the first day back by reviewing and reinforcing the expectations and routines. This can be done through engaging games or activities that visually and verbally remind students about the class promises. Additionally, it's beneficial to give students the opportunity to share about their vacation experiences before diving into academic areas.

7. Supporting Striving Writers

Today we are talking about how to support our beginning writers in kindergarten. Writing is the hardest time of day for many of our students, and that completely makes sense. Think about all the executive function skills that you need in writing. You need to be able to stop your impulses and sit still and plan out what you're going to write. Figure out how you're going to write it, and then remember what you are going to write as you're sounding out the words. I mean, it is a lot for little writers. This is where I see my kids struggle the most is writing, but again, it makes sense given all the demands we're putting on them. So today, I'm going to talk with you about how I support my beginning writers, the ones that come in not knowing how to write yet in kindergarten.

I am thrilled to share some exciting news with all of you today on the Kindergarten Cafe Podcast. After years of hard work, I am proud to announce that I have written and published a series of 12 children's books! These books are part of the social-emotional curriculum that I provide on my website and on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Each book in the series focuses on a different social-emotional skill and features an animal character who learns about that skill. The first book in the series is called Felipe the Feeling Frog, and I am thrilled to say that it is available NOW!

I have personally witnessed how these books resonate with my students and help them navigate their own emotions. The response from my class has been incredible, with one student even sharing how the book helped him manage his own feelings. It fills me with pride to have created something that has such a positive impact on young learners.
