SHARE GOOD NEWS: KNOW GOD’S HEART TOWARD PEOPLE

He said to them, “Go everywhere in the world. Tell the Good News to everyone.”

Then Jesus told them this story: (4) “Suppose one of you has 100 sheep, but one of them gets lost. What will you do? You will carry it (6) home, go to your friends and neighbors and say to them, ‘Be happy with me because I found my lost sheep!’ (7) In the same way, I tell you, heaven is a happy place when one sinner decides to change. There is more joy for that one sinner than for 99 good people who don’t need to change.

(12) Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. (13) This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. (14) Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 

Ephesians 4:15-16 NIV

Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. (16) He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love."

HONORING GOD 

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE HEART OF A SAMURAI?

The Seven Virtues of Bushido

1. 義 (Gi) - Rectitude or Justice: This is the most important virtue. It's about doing what is right and just, and having the moral courage to act on that knowledge without hesitation. It's the ability to make a rational, ethical decision and follow through, even if it means dying.
2. 勇 (Yū) - Courage: This is not just a lack of fear, but the bravery to do what is right. True courage, according to Bushido, is only virtuous when it is exercised in the cause of righteousness and justice.
3. 仁 (Jin) - Benevolence or Compassion: A warrior with the power to command and kill was expected to demonstrate a high degree of benevolence and mercy. This value emphasizes the importance of love, sympathy, and magnanimity toward others, especially the less fortunate.
4. 礼 (Rei) - Respect or Politeness: Samurai were expected to be polite and courteous to everyone, including their enemies. This virtue is rooted in a benevolent regard for the feelings of others and is a sign of inner strength and self-control.
5. 誠 (Makoto) - Honesty and Sincerity: A samurai's word was their bond. To make a promise was considered a serious and absolute truth. Dishonesty, deception, and lying were considered shameful and unworthy of a true warrior.
6. 名誉 (Meiyo) - Honor: This is the vivid consciousness of one's personal dignity and worth. For a samurai, honor was the most important thing, and a life without it was not worth living. The fear of disgrace was a powerful motivator, and in the face of dishonor, a samurai might choose ritual suicide (seppuku) to restore their name.
7. 忠義 (Chūgi) - Loyalty: This was a supreme virtue, especially in the feudal era. A samurai's loyalty to their master (daimyō) was paramount, and they were expected to serve them with unwavering devotion, even to the point of death.

“Every foreign visitor notices the politeness and refinement of the Japanese people. If courtesy were practiced merely out of a fear of losing one’s good name, it would be a poor kind of virtue. True courtesy is the visible expression of consideration for the feelings of others. In its highest form, courtesy approaches almost to love.” ~ Inazo Nitobe

Jesus answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ (38) This is the first and most important command. (39) And the second command is like the first: ‘Love your neighbor the same as you love yourself.’ (40) All of the law and the writings of the prophets take their meaning from these two commands.”

When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer[b] came and pleaded with him, (6) “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.” (7) Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.” (8) But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. (9) I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.” (10) When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!

Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.” And the young servant was healed that same hour.

TO HONOR MEANS TO PUT WEIGHT, VALUE, RESPECT, PRIORITIZE

But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. (9) I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. GOD HONORS THOSE WHO HONOR HIM

WHY EVERY WORLD CHANGER NEEDS A HELPER & COMMUNITY

(Psalm 84:10 ERV) 

One day in your Temple is better than a thousand days anywhere else. Serving as a guard at the gate of my God’s house is better than living in the homes of the wicked.

(Acts 9:3-8 NIV) 

As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. (4) He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” (5) “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. (6) “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” (7) The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. (8) Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus.

In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered. (11) The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” (18) Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength.

BE STRONG IN GOD'S GENERATIONAL PROMISES

ABRAHAM'S JOURNEY OF FAITH AND PROMISE

(Genesis 12:1-3 NIV / 創世記 12:1-3 JCB) 

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. (2) I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.(3) I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

ABRAHAM'S FAMILY TURNED FROM IDOLS TO GOD'S PROMISES

(Joshua 24:15b NIV) 

"But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

WE BECOME SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST

(Romans 4:2-3 NIV)

If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. (3) What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

(Romans 4:16 NIV) 

Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

ZACCHAEUS BECOMES A “SON OF ABRAHAM” PROMISE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”(6) So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. (7) All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” (8) But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” (9) Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. (10) For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

THE PHILIPPIANS JAILOR ASKS THE KEY QUESTION

He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” (31) They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” (32) Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.(33) At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. (34) The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.

FAITH THAT AMAZES JESUS!

(Luke 7:2-8 NLT)

At that time the highly valued slave of a Roman officer was sick and near death. (3) When the officer heard about Jesus, he sent some respected Jewish elders to ask him to come and heal his slave. (4) So they earnestly begged Jesus to help the man. "If anyone deserves your help, he does," they said, (5) "for he loves the Jewish people and even built a synagogue for us." (6) So Jesus went with them. But just before they arrived at the house, the officer sent some friends to say, "Lord, don't trouble yourself by coming to my home, for I am not worthy of such an honor. (7) I am not even worthy to come and meet you. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. (8) I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, 'Go,' and they go, or 'Come,' and they come. And if I say to my slaves, 'Do this,' they do it." 

JESUS HAS ALL AUTHORITY AND POWER

(Philippians 2:9-11 NIV)

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, (10) that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (11) and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

JESUS HAS GIVEN US AUTHORITY

(Luke 10:19 NLT)

Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.

FAITH IN THE AUTHORITY AND POWER OF JESUS

(Luke 7:9 NLT)

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to the crowd that was following him, he said, "I tell you, I haven't seen faith like this in all Israel!"

And because of their unbelief, he couldn't do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. (6) And he was amazed at their unbelief.

And when the officer's friends returned to his house, they found the slave completely healed.

FAITH IN JESUS = PEACE

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

DOES MY DOUBT DISQUALIFY MY FAITH? 

HOW CAN I OVERCOME MY DOUBTS?

(Hebrews 11:1 NLT)

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

(Mark 9:17-18 NLT)

One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, “Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won’t let him talk. (18) And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn’t do it.”

How long has this been happening?” Jesus asked the boy’s father. He replied, “Since he was a little boy. (22) The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can. (23) “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” (24) The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” (25) When Jesus saw that the crowd of onlookers was growing, he rebuked the evil spirit. “Listen, you spirit that makes this boy unable to hear and speak,” he said. “I command you to come out of this child and never enter him again!” (26) Then the spirit screamed and threw the boy into another violent convulsion and left him. The boy appeared to be dead. A murmur ran through the crowd as people said, “He’s dead.” (27) But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.

JESUS > DOUBT

But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.”

Protection

Once we were safe on shore, we learned that we were on the island of Malta. (2) The people of the island were very kind to us. It was cold and rainy, so they built a fire on the shore to welcome us. (3) As Paul gathered an armful of sticks and was laying them on the fire, a poisonous snake, driven out by the heat, bit him on the hand. (4) The people of the island saw it hanging from his hand and said to each other, “A murderer, no doubt! Though he escaped the sea, justice will not permit him to live.” (5) But Paul shook off the snake into the fire and was unharmed. (6) The people waited for him to swell up or suddenly drop dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw that he wasn’t harmed, they changed their minds and decided he was a god. 

External Protection 

(Psalm 121:7-8 NIV) 

The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; (8) the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

(2 Thessalonians 3:2-3 NIV) 

And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith. (3) But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

(Psalm 23:4-5 NIV) 

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Internal Protection 

(Matthew 26:41 NIV) 

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

(Philippians 4:6-9 NIV) 

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (7) And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (8) Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (9) Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Protection to Breakthroughs

(Acts 28:7-10 NLT) 

Near the shore where we landed was an estate belonging to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us and treated us kindly for three days. (8) As it happened, Publius’s father was ill with fever and dysentery. Paul went in and prayed for him, and laying his hands on him, he healed him. (9) Then all the other sick people on the island came and were healed. (10) As a result we were showered with honors, and when the time came to sail, people supplied us with everything we would need for the trip.

An Impossible Situation

(Esther 3:13 NLT) 

Dispatches were sent by swift messengers into all the provinces of the empire, giving the order that all Jews-young and old, including women and children-must be killed, slaughtered, and annihilated on a single day. This was scheduled to happen on March 7 of the next year. The property of the Jews would be given to those who killed them.

God is with You and He Wants to Help 

Jesus’s Love For Peter

(John 21:15-19 NIV) 

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” (16) Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” (17) The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. (18) Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” (19) Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

Promise of Jesus (Helper)

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. (5) For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

The Day of Pentecost

The Holy Spirit Enables Us To Be Strong Leaders

Peter Preaches the Good News with Boldness

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (39) The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (40) With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” (41) Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

How Can the Holy Spirit Help Us?

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. (2) Suddenly a noise came from heaven. It sounded like a strong wind blowing. This noise filled the whole house where they were sitting. (3) They saw something that looked like flames of fire. The flames were separated and stood over each person there. (4) They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak different languages. The Holy Spirit was giving them the power to do this.

Then Peter stood up with the other eleven apostles. He spoke loudly so that all the people could hear. He said, “My Jewish brothers and all of you who live in Jerusalem, listen to me. I will tell you something you need to know. Listen carefully… (37) When the people heard this, they felt very, very sorry. They asked Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” (38) Peter said to them, “Change your hearts and lives and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ. Then God will forgive your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Then those who accepted what Peter said were baptized. On that day about 3000 people were added to the group of believers.

The Holy Spirit Helps Us

(Romans 5:5 ERV)

And this hope will never disappoint us. We know this because God has poured out his love to fill our hearts through the Holy Spirit he gave us.

The Holy Spirit Helps Us Help Others

(Romans 12:6-8 ERV)

We all have different gifts. Each gift came because of the grace God gave us. Whoever has the gift of prophecy should use that gift in a way that fits the kind of faith they have. (7) Whoever has the gift of serving should serve. Whoever has the gift of teaching should teach. (8) Whoever has the gift of comforting others should do that. Whoever has the gift of giving to help others should give generously. Whoever has the gift of leading should work hard at it. Whoever has the gift of showing kindness to others should do it gladly.

(1 Timothy 2:4-5 ERV)

God wants everyone to be saved and to fully understand the truth. (5) There is only one God, and there is only one way that people can reach God. That way is through Christ Jesus, who as a man (6) gave himself to pay for everyone to be free. This is the message that was given to us at just the right time.

Questions:

• Jesus asked Peter three times, “Do you love me?” Then, Jesus said to Peter, "Feed my sheep." How can we show our love for Jesus? How can we show we care for others in our daily lives? (John 21:15-17)
• Peter denied Jesus three times, yet Jesus restored him and gave him a purpose. How does this encourage you when you feel like you’ve made mistakes? (John 21:15-19)
• Jesus promised the disciples they would receive power through the Holy Spirit. Why do you think the Holy Spirit wants to help us be bold? (Acts 1:8, Acts 2:38-41)
• The Holy Spirit gives everyone unique gifts to serve others. What gifts do you think God has given you? How can you use them to help others? (Romans 12:6-8)
• When Jesus told Peter, “Follow me,” it was a call to completely trust Jesus. What does it mean for you to follow Jesus in your life? (John 21:19)

For his life was taken from the earth.” (34) The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, was the prophet talking about himself or someone else?” (35) So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus. (36) As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look! There’s some water! Why can’t I be baptized?” (38) He ordered the carriage to stop, and they went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.

Always Be Ready

Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.

What is Righteousness? How Do I Know I Have It?

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. (9) Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.

Love is Strong

When I entered your home, you didn’t offer me water to wash the dust from my feet, but she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. (45) You didn’t greet me with a kiss, but from the time I first came in, she has not stopped kissing my feet. (46) You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume. (47) I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” (48) Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.”

Love Keeps No Records of Wrongs

(Ephesians 4:26-27 NIV) “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, (27) and do not give the devil a foothold. 

Daily Habit to Forgive

(Matthew 6:12 NLT) And forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. 

We Can Forgive Because We Have Been Forgiven Much

Strong Love

I will make a helper suitable for him.”

(18) He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Hold of God’s Word

(25) The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock".

Shake off that Snake　

(Acts 28:3-5 NIV) Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. (4) When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.” (5) But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.

What Is Love?

Love is the Greatest Goal

Isaac & Rebekah: An Imperfect Love Story

Running over to her, the servant said, "Please give me a little drink of water from your jug." (18) "Yes, my lord," she answered, "have a drink." How Can I Be a Better Friend?

(4) They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. (5) Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” (6) But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, (7) “What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!” (8) Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? (9) Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’? (10) So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, (11) “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” (12) And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!”
