Hi! I'm Bryson!
I never thought I’d want to teach elementary music. Like so many of us, I always thought I was going to be the next great high school choir director. Through my undergraduate courses and field placements I soon realized that the elementary level was my zone of genius.

My classes in undergrad prepared me to be a fantastic secondary music teacher, but unfortunately I found that most of what I’ve learned about the elementary level came from a trial l by fire. I spent HOURS each week during my first couple of years out of college trying to take in as much professional development to fill in the gaps so I could be the best elementary music teacher that I could be.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an uncommon story. I’ve talked to so many music educators that felt like they spent four years in undergrad to learn how to teach secondary music and then had to figure everything else out once they got into the elementary music classroom. Once I realized my situation was anything but unique, I decided to share what I’ve learned the hard way to help early-career music educators feel confident and empowered in the elementary music classroom.

I’ve spent the past few years sharing what I’ve learned during my first few years of teaching elementary music so that other teachers don’t have to struggle before they thrive. I firmly believe that your first few years of teaching don’t have to be an uphill battle.

Monica's website continues - When I was a struggling 15-year-old, the first time I discovered my ability and love of writing was sitting on my bed after a night with friends. I was feeling lost as most fifteen-year-olds do, and I decided for some reason to pick up a pen and start writing poetry. I wrote two poems that night in red pen on lined paper. I wish I had these poems today, but sadly they are lost in the paper trail of my life. A few days later, i picked up these poems and looked at them for the first time. I was taken back by how real, raw, and good they were. They really spoke to me and described the feelings I was feeling on the inside. If I am to be honest, which is what this website is all about, I didn’t remember writing the words that were on those pages. They came from a place outside of myself. I have often and still often write things down and then wonder where those words come from… but… This is writing for another time.

I am excited to have a space to talk about all things life. It will be real and raw and sometimes spiritual, sometimes artistic, sometimes random but always honest and truthful. I often have these epiphanies and then forget them an hour later if I don’t write them down. Sometimes I write them down, but do nothing with them. Finally, at the age of 38, they are going to get written down. I have a space to share what I know, what I think, what I feel, and my general ramblings. You have a choice to read them.

My name is Monica. I have taught kids for many many years, and when I was teaching younger kids, they would often call me Momica. So years later Momicaintheraw was born. I thrive on honesty and rawness. I love to see people as their raw selves and try to bring more of my raw self forward. Jim Love is 30 years old and was born and raised in the south side of Chicago. Carmen Williams is a machine. She is actually not happy unless she has a list of things to smash.

However, the difference between Carmen and a lot of other people is that she is a mastermind at getting others to do stuff for her. She just realizes the power in it; the power of support to propel a business forward.

Even when she was a self-proclaimed “baby business owner”, she employed Noe in the Philippines to work part-time for her.

She may have been doing it tough (as a single mum with a business less than six months old), but she knew she couldn’t grow if she tried to do everything herself.

And spending 4 hours a day marketing herself on LinkedIn, looking after her clients and handling the admin ALL herself was not her idea of fun (or very clever). So she invested in her first VA.

Fast forward a few years, and with Carmen often leading the way, Global Teams has built a team of 14 superstars in the Philippines and is helping other businesses do the same. (Carmen is always finding new things we can get support with. Video editing, social media marketing anyone? :)).

Carmen and I are very different but have always liked and respected each other. She’s brave and funny and annoying at times (please can’t we look at the bigger picture and just dream?! :)).

The terms essential and non-essential sure had a huge impact on what one would consider "secure jobs" - to be a barber or hair stylist, s server in a restaurant, an actor on stage, a musician, bar owner, travel advisor, wedding planner - all deemed "non-essential" and out of work. Essential - Doctor, First Responder and Grocery Clerk? The Great Resignation has included employees and business owners that had to pivot and reinvent themselves, some of which will no longer return to the positions held prior to the pandemic - where do you fit in all this?

If you’re like me, a parent that is troubled by the amount short use and “disposable” toys on the market, then you are in the right place.

Children's toys and accessories can be quite expensive, especially given how quickly children develop physically and cognitively.

Families need more affordable, sustainable and local options than ever before when purchasing for their babies and children.

Upcycling textiles to make baby and children's toys and accessories gives people the option. Fabrics are also diverted from landfills, giving them a fresh lease on life.

At the outset of the pandemic, I was at a loss regarding how to procure things needed to comfort a newborn baby, while also attempting to meet the demands of a developing toddler. Then it dawned on me; I could use garments from around the house that have been outgrown and worn out! Despite my postpartum challenges, I was motivated when I came up with the concept of crafting products out of upcycled textiles
