As a retired Air Force officer, I started my first company in 2005, focusing on consulting, employee skill development and program management. These areas remain in place these days and have grown internationally. I have always had a love for education and helping people help themselves become successful. As a business owner, I began thinking about applying profits towards retirement and research clearly indicated that owning real assets would be the best way. It’s also the path that the government supports the most.

This has led to the development of a residential real estate investment portfolio currently worth about $1.5 Million. It’s still growing, and many lessons I learned are now available for me to teach, coach and mentor people.

ZYN comes from the word “zyndagi,” which means LIFE for over 1 billion people in South Asia.

The ZYN “aha” moment happened during a family trip to Pakistan in November 2016 with our parents. After the long plane ride over, our father who is diabetic, suffered from sudden and severe diabetic nerve pain in his foot, to the point where he couldn’t walk. Our aunt made a paste with Turmeric powder and olive oil and applied it to our father’s foot. Within an hour, his pain was completely gone. Meet Celia:

As a kid, I can recall the stress my mom endured when unexpected expenses came up.

As a youngster, I was quite active, participating in multiple sports and extra-curricular activities. After participating in four sports in high school (Basketball, Soccer, Swimming, Track & Cross Country) and Basketball intramurals in college, I didn’t stop. Although I wasn’t a collegiate or career athlete, sports were my life, and my social life as well. Working out hard felt good, despite a habitual sprain or broken ankle. I was rough on my body back then, without fear of growing old or long-lasting pain. Fall, break, heal, and back at it again. Repeat. Year to year in one form or another I injured myself from said activities.

For as long as I remember, I always wanted to be a Marine Biologist. I loved to fish, mammals, and swimming in the ocean. I wanted to dive and discover new things under the sea (Little Mermaid hopeful). One of my goals and dreams came true! I applied to and went on to graduate from UCSC with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology. Passion for cellular level health began during my biochemistry days at UCSC. Could there be a way to bring the love of marine life and the excitement of cellular biology together? Perhaps I could discover a cure for Cancer in marine natural products, like sponges or kelp! How cool would that be? The need for alternative natural products with therapeutic effects was looming, and more and more side effects of day to day chemical exposures were haunting me.

My young adult years were spent living life to the fullest, traveling, adventuring, and livin’ it up! I was not the best to my body, but knew in the back of my head, that somehow I would figure it all out.

Fast forward to 2007 car accident that changed my life forever. I sustained a serious neck injury and my endocrine system went into shock. My body suffered a major blow and I was told by three different surgeons that I needed a neck surgery to reduce the pain level and attempt a “normal” life. Neck surgery?? Yeah right, not me. I purchased my first Light device (APL) in 2008 and avoided invasive neck surgery. Within one month, I weaned myself off of all prescription drugs. Within six months, I was back to running again, working out, and playing basketball. The Light helped my body heal itself. I avoided invasive surgery and got my life back, pain-free!! This opened my eyes once again to the demand for natural remedies and medicines for all to heal naturally, from what the Earth provides. I insist on using the most natural face and body topical products and limit my toxin and chemical exposure by only washing with naturally sourced ingredients. I eliminate chemicals from our diet and make a huge effort to live a non-synthetic lifestyle that will increase longevity and increase sustainable health for years to come.

I was able to maintain this pain-free lifestyle until 2017 when I was a passenger in an Uber and was broadsided by a drunk driver. Once again, 10 years later, I sustained a serious neck injury. The only way I was able to maintain sanity and keep my pain levels low during Dr. visits, Physical Therapy, (failed) injections, was to do light consistently. Light helped and continues to help me daily through chronic pain and injury. I couldn’t imagine my life without it, and I am so grateful for this science-backed technological advance in medicine. Light is indeed the Medicine of the Future.

Laura Dixon is a life & weight loss coach as well as a former CPA who helps other high achieving, ambitious women lose weight for the last time.

She has lost 50 pounds and has kept it off for years and now helps other women become naturally thin without any diet, weird trick or gimmick, but simply by helping them change their relationship with food.

One of the most common problems her clients come to her with is dealing with stress and anxiety because that often manifests in overeating in order to cope.

She helps women manage this in a new way so that they experience not only a significant reduction in the stress and anxiety but they are then also well equipped to deal with those emotions when they arise.

In addition, when she helps women lose weight, she doesn’t just teach them all of the tools but she helps them rewire their brain so that they no longer have the desire to overeat.

Growing up with very few financial resources and a challenging family dynamic, I knew there had to be a better way. Call me an old soul, but I knew my life had significance and that God would use those situations and experiences for good. In 2002, I entered the financial industry and began teaching in higher education. Nathan Sroor is the current Sales/Business Development Lead at Interflight Parking, which manages and maintains all of the on-sight parking at MKE airport.

While still in high school, Nathan began with Interflight, working a full-time role at the inception of its valet service, where he was recognized by upper-level management for his hard work ethic and outspoken nature.

Feeling his skills could benefit the company in a bigger role, the Executive Vice President gave Nathan an opportunity of a lifetime.

Fast forward through high school graduation and to the following Monday, where Nathan’s first day in the corporate world began.

After a few months of working Corporate Sales, the company realized that the management of the valet service was seriously lacking and who better to run it than the employee who had been there since day one!

In addition to his sales and marketing efforts, Nathan now also manages MKE Valet. In less than a year of his efforts, the average inventory count has nearly tripled and revenue has increased over 80%.

Though he bypassed higher education to gain valuable work experience, Nathan is still is an avid learner and plans on perusing his real estate license this Spring.

Pat started his career as a software engineer for Bell Laboratories. It was there he became an inventor in GSM wireless technologies, earning two patents. He leveraged his expertise and became a trainer for emerging software Object Oriented methodologies, training 1000s of engineers in the USA and Europe. He was promoted and managed various training groups and a technology adoption organization promoting technology transfer.

In 2003, Monster energy drinks hit this US markets, and at that time she was studying for her undergraduate degree, while also maintaining two part-time jobs. The toy and book drive got its start eight years ago when he and his wife hosted a party and asked the attendees to bring toys. At that event, they collected 40 toys. 1:06 The children that we’re trying to help are what I call forgotten children, unfortunately. They’re children who have been victims of abuse and neglect in our city of Milwaukee. It’s a problem that most people don’t talk about. And in the eight years that me and my wife have been doing the DWYD Gives Toy and Book Drive, we’ve collected over 20,000 items to help these children in the city.

#DWYD Toy & Book Drive: Milwaukee couple making a difference in the lives of children in the Milwaukee area. A

husband and wife team that in their spare time (outside of full-time careers) create positive change.

Over 4,000 children come through the doors of the Milwaukee Child Advocacy Center (MCAC) annually and they rely

heavily on the charity and kindness of others. The MCAC is a hospital-based child advocacy program through Children's

Wisconsin bringing a specially trained team of professionals to aid children. The donated items help provide security and

reassurance to victims. Each child and teen that visits the center is offered a toy and a book to make a stressful day a bit

more comfortable in an unfortunate situation.

#DoWhatYouDesire lifestyle brand headed by Joshua Scarver spreads a message of following your dreams, inspiring

others and giving back. Every year he and his wife, Bekah Lustig join forces, for their annual #DWYD Toy & Book Drive

to prove that anyone can take an idea and create an effort to help their community in a positive way. “I have realized in

the 8 years since this has begun, is that it feels good to help and it feels even better to inspire others to take action”.

Joshua’s true passion in life is giving and inspiring others to join in helping those who are less fortunate. The drive started

as a small event collecting 40 toys and books. As of last year, the drive has grown to over 5,000 donations that help bring

smiles to the faces of the forgotten children in our community. “It is my dream to keep growing the #DWYD Toy & Book

Drive to even greater successes and bringing more of the community and its businesses, organizations and leaders

together to bring positive change to our city of Milwaukee and beyond. Anything and everything is possible.” Collecting

donations sends a message to the children of our community that someone cares about them.

22 local businesses have partnered with us to support their local community with the 8th Annual #DWYD Toy and Book

drive as well as Half Price Books and Fashion Angels being two of their largest donators. Each year our goal is to surpass

the collection from last year. This year we will strive for enough toys to fulfill needs through the end of 2020. Below are

the businesses that have donation barrel available for anyone to donate a toy or book during regular business hours.

And that program consisted of an accelerator where we would bring businesses into a room and teach them over five or six months, how to grow. And I’m going to give you a little bit of our magic sauce. The technical training is really important. We’re not trying to replicate an MBA. We’re not trying to be a college. We do teach technical skills, however, the secret is, what makes it super powerful and impactful, is that we teach a way of thinking about growth.

[16:07] When I first started out, I didn’t think about ‘Martin Moore’ as a brand. I kind of just did my thing and yapped. There wasn’t really anything where I stood out in front of everybody else. It wasn’t until I started, whether you do podcasts or videos or photos, we all have these little idiosyncrasies that make us who we are. At least for me, and maybe I’m projecting, I would hide those in my vlog because I didn’t want people to hear my stupid laugh. I didn’t want people to make fun of my hair. I didn’t want people to make fun of what I said. I hid all these things that made me who I was, and I was just this bland dude that made semi-interesting videos on YouTube. It wasn’t until I embraced all those idiosyncrasies, those little things about myself that made me who I was, and shared those as part of a daily story that’s when I started picking up traction.

And not only is that not true, but it’s impossible to live a meaningful, purposeful life when you’re constantly battling the two sides of the coin of ‘I’m awesome’ or ‘I suck’. What I like to help people do is find all the shades of grey, find all the ways they bring meaning and purpose, not only to their life, but to people around them. And find more motivation in this idea of baby steps daily, than in the idea of chasing perfect.

My favorite takeaways from this week’s episode:

You don’t have to be religious, to be spiritual.
The only constant thing is change.
Know your limits.

The Dalai Lama says it doesn’t matter which religion you belong to, or whether you belong to any, for that matter.

Ask yourself: What does being spiritual mean to you?

And then don’t let anyone tell you you’re wrong.

Suffering is a part of life, he says, but by rejecting that we make ourselves into victims and start assigning blame, when there really is none to be assigned.

The only constant thing is change.

Resistance to change leads to suffering. As a matter of fact, it is the root cause of suffering.

Be honest with yourself and others about what you can and cannot do. If you’re okay with not knowing everything, then you can openly admit it, and won’t feel like a fraud.

So rather than building confidence from the outside, build confidence from the inside, by allowing yourself to be honest.

And if you don’t understand something, try this. Say “I don’t understand.” People will explain again.

Being okay with your limits, however, means knowing what they are in advance, and that requires self-awareness.

Dave began his journey in the culinary world at age 16 in a small restaurant in his hometown of Lake Villa, IL. It was here that he was introduced to the wonders of food and never looked back.

He trained at Kendall College, Chicago’s preeminent culinary arts school. Dave also had the opportunity to spend some time at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France, honing his skills of classical French cuisine.

In 2008, he launched Braise RSA (restaurant supported agriculture), which brings locally sourced foods into restaurants. Braise Restaurant & Culinary School opened in 2011. From this endeavor came 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 James Beard Award nominations for Best Chef in the Midwest.

Since then, Dave has become a longtime resident of the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee.

Braise embraces a return to slow grown, natural food. From seasonally inspired menus and creative cocktails to our hands-on classes and events, we work to educate our community on food.

A heartfelt conversation with author and speaker Amberly Lago

Amberly started her speaking career after her life was deeply

altered and her world was completely changed in May 2010.

While riding her motorcycle in Woodland Hills, CA, she was hit by a SUV

and thrown thirty feet down a busy street. Her right leg took the

brunt of the impact and was crushed almost beyond repair.

Despite an arduous recovery process, being a former professional

dancer and athlete she was determined to walk again and return to

work as a fitness trainer. After a lengthy hospital stay and 34

surgeries, doctors were able to fuse her leg together and repair her

severed femoral artery despite the initial recommendation to

amputate.

However, Lago was diagnosed with a nerve disease

called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (formerly known as RSD)

and deals with chronic pain daily. This chronic pain has led her to

develop positive, healthy ways of coping with pain and all the emotions that come along with it, and pass it on to others in any

kind of pain.

This life altering experience inspires Lago to communicate how you

can turn tragedy into triumph. She demonstrates how you can hit

For more than 35 years, Dennis Hill, PhD has been a change agent and solutions architect, serving on more than 20 boards in business, industry, and education, including EXACTA Corporation, a forty-three-year-old business specializing in software architects and solutions.

As a young professor in the ’80s and ’90s, Dr. Hill founded one of the first accredited computer science & engineering programs in the USA. Concurrently, while working with businesses, he led the development of the first enterprise-class CRM solution on Oracle/Sun Servers.

The ’80s, integrating ERP but uniquely spanning all contact relationships, including sales, supply chain, workforce recruitment, and HRIS. He is an avid believer in both formal and continuing education, professional development, and certifications.

Joined GE’s Healthcare Financial Services business, became CFO in 2014. He led the organization through a host of changes over the past 4 years. New tax laws, lease accounting changes, revenue recognition rules, and the sale of GE Capital all impacted his business. He had to set up new business processes and international finance/accounting teams as the support infrastructure was sold.

Started Supporting Strategies Milwaukee Franchise in 2018. It allowed him to help his hometown business community with the skills he built over the past 20 years and not have to worry about someone “in Corporate” making bad decisions to ruin his day. Every day he gets to learn about a new business in the Milwaukee area and he gets to see his kids most nights.

Starting in IT back in 1994, working for a Digital VAR (Value added reseller) as the Tech Support for their spin-off, WCF Internet, in Mukwanago Wisconsin.

While the internet side of the business was slow, I learned “Big Iron” computing by building, configuring and installing OpenVMS Servers for small places like St Lukes, the Chicago Stock Exchange and First Star!

Y2K was a boon for most IT companies, sadly, OpenVMS was not affected by the “bug” and the IT budgets of companies went to fix the Microsoft Windows, so… I was out of a job.

I got my A+, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, and MCSE+Security. And went into becoming the inhouse IT Administrator for a few small Milwaukee Software Companies. Took a taste as a consultant, and started my own IT Services Company focusing on Small and Medium businesses. Sensible Gurus LLC. I have been running that since 2007!

The Idea for Ultra Scary LLC started as an idea for a branch of Sensible. Bug with all the confidential data that our services come in contact with, we brought Ultra into this world as its own legal entity!

Aside from that, I am happily married for over 20 years, have three kids, two of whom are identical twins, and cut gemstones as a hobby!

Meet Toomas Mitt,

Toomas Mitt

Owner: TBG Networks LLC

A lifelong technology cheerleader, at the age of 11, Toomas was the youngest amateur radio operator in the US. In high school, he was one of the first students to work with the schools new IBM 360, using punch cards on panel switches to program. Later, he went on to program for SAMI Systems, a food service marketing firm that provided reports to major producers around the country. In the 70’s, he became interested in the new microcomputer industry, working with Imsai, Altair, IBM and other systems.

Toomas realized that these systems were more than simply hobbist toys and wrote business programs, including accounting. Inventory and business management programs for clients using the hardware and languages of the day. Toomas wrote one of the first remote management programs which allowed him to program and maintain his client’s systems from his office.

In the early 80’s, Toomas was a founding member of Telesphere International, providing hardware and software solutions to the hospitality industry nationwide. As VP of R&D, Toomas managed a core group of programmers and a nationwide network of installers and troubleshooters. At its peak, Telesphere software and hardware was installed in over 500 hotels around the country.

Toomas founded TBG Networks in 2004 and provides hardware and software support to businesses, specializing in systems management and administration. Today, TBG Networks has grown to providing IT and VOIP services to over 100 businesses in southeast Wisconsin.

Melissa Blair is a serial entrepreneur and a product of 2 entrepreneurial parents. Small business is in her DNA.

This is also why she is so passionate about helping other entrepreneurs. She knows all too well how much time, energy, and money it takes to run a small business.

As a self-proclaimed ‘marketing geek’ she has worked with a wide variety of software systems on the market that claims to be easy to use.

What she found though is that none of those tools were built for the Soloprenuer or 2-5 person companies. They were built for organizations who had a marketing staff or who could afford to hire out consultants to help them. In most cases, it still meant having to Frankenstein together numerous software tools in an effort to build a cohesive system.

Her company, Cultivating Sales, has what she has nicknamed her ‘Soloprenuer Software.’ Software that has been specifically designed to incorporate the tools that a small service-based business needs and that is easy to use and at an affordable price.

What Defines Roger:
I’m a people person and I want to help people navigate through the confusing world of technology. I strive for understanding when I educate people and try really hard not to talk over people’s head – which is real easy to do when it comes to technical topics.
What do I do?
With the many ways technology solves problems, I evaluate a situation and narrow down solutions specific to the needs of the person I’m working with. For instance, a customer of mine with Parkinson’s disease has different requirements from his technology than our carpet cleaner or hair stylist.

I performed on the Fox 6 Summerfest Stage when I was in High School.

Meet Amanda:

Amanda was raised in the Fox Valley area and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Wisconsin Lutheran College. After graduation, she spent a few years of living in Indiana while her husband completed his PhD at Purdue University. Amanda has resided in Milwaukee for the last 5 years. Over this time she has enjoyed being a tourist in the town and taking advantage of all that Milwaukee has to offer. She and her husband have a 4 year old boy and a 1 year old girl.

Amanda recently completed her master’s degree in Instructional Technology. In addition to working in the technology field, Amanda has previously taught every grade from kindergarten to grade twelve in a variety of settings, from rural to suburban to urban. She also taught English Language Learners. She has been employed with Tech Lab since 2013 and has helped the company add new clients and grow internally. No matter what setting Amanda is in she is driven by a strong work ethic, a desire to help people and give back, and a loyalty to family and friends.

Meet Dr. Lees

Dr. Lees received her Doctor of Psychology degree with honors from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 1990. Prior to opening Lees Psychological Services in 1998, she developed and directed several hospital-based as well as independent clinic-based, eating disorder programs for anorexia and bulimia.

A licensed psychologist and one of the only Certified Eating Disorder Specialists (CEDS) in the area, Dr. Lees was recognized in 2001 by her peers as a leading expert in eating disorders in Milwaukee Magazine’s “A Guide to Top Psychotherapists.”

Dr. Lees has expertise treating binge eating disorder, emotional overeating, obesity and the psychological aspects of weight-related medical problems such as heart disease, high cholesterol and diabetes. She has over 25 years of experience treating anxiety, panic, post-traumatic stress disorder and depression as these conditions often underlie and/or occur along with eating, weight and medical problems.

In 2012, Dr. Lees received a post-doctoral Master’s degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology which provides her with advanced knowledge in the uses and effects of psychiatric medications.

In 2013, she received certification in the practice of Integrated Care which focuses on collaborating with medical professionals to treat the mental health issues in people dealing with medical conditions. Treating and helping people manage the lifestyle factors that contribute to medical conditions promotes improved functioning and quality of life, which in turn decreases the disease process and medical complications. Integrated care prioritizes treating the whole person and recognizes that untreated problems like anxiety and depression can strongly contribute to medical problems and a person’s ability to adhere to treatment recommendations, medication regimens, healthy eating, physical activity and lifestyle balance.

Dr. Lees has been a member of the Wisconsin Psychological Association (WPA) since 2002. She was elected President of the WPA Board of Directors for 2018 and has been the Chair of the Continuing Education Committee since 2017. She was elected to the WPA Board of Directors in 2015 where she served on the Continuing Education and Membership Committees. In 2016, she served as the Vice President and the Chair of Professional Activities and participated on the Licensure Workgroup that rewrote the Wisconsin psychology license statute. From 2009-2014 she was a member of the WPA Advocacy Cabinet where she worked on determining the need for state certification of outpatient clinics, evaluating continuing education requirements for psychologists in Wisconsin and promoting the authority of properly trained and educated psychologists to obtain privileges to prescribe psychiatric medications. Dr. Lees is also a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders, the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, the National Register for Health Service Psychologists and she actively supports the National Eating Disorders Association and Mental Fitness, Inc.

“I love the challenge of a complicated case and that’s what has always attracted me so strongly to treating eating disorders and medical conditions like heart disease. There are usually multiple levels of issues that require change – from nutrition, to mood, to coping skills, to lifestyle, etc. I consider myself extremely honored that patients trust me to help them make the changes that make a difference in their happiness and quality of life. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a person experience recovery after witnessing all the effort it took to get there.”

Meet Ron,

I can’t remember when I didn’t carry a camera. I’ve been inspired by images and art my entire life. My Uncle Ray got me interested in photography when I was about ten or twelve years old and continued to water that seed. Photography was a hobby of his and he enjoyed sharing it with me. He set me up with a makeshift dark room in my parent’s basement and taught me how to process and print in black & white. Thanks to him, I have been creating images ever since.

During high school, I realized I wanted to pursue photography for a living. After graduation, I joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a Naval Photographer for five years. I traveled the world via an aircraft carrier and photographed everywhere we went – from land, sea and air!

After completing my service in the Navy, I finished my photography degree and opened my original studio in San Diego. I moved back to Milwaukee in 1994 to be closer to family and friends. I feel incredibly fortunate that I get to follow my passion – photographing people.

I have served as President of the South Eastern Professional Photographers Association and am a Member of the Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association. Currently, I am working on my Master Photographer’s Degree.

This quote comes from my daughter, Wendy, who has observed me all her life:

Her quote surprised me but I do agree with her: I enjoy meeting new folks to listen. Everyone has their own unique story. GE moved me to the Milwaukee area 15 years ago, and I’ve lived in the same house in Brookfield since
Worked as a pricing manager at Miller Brewing Company
Led continuous improvement efforts at Cooper Power Systems and then moved into product management, a practice which is incredibly challenging, poorly understood, and a ton of fun regardless
Came back to GE to lead marketing efforts for bedside patient monitors, learning more about cardiology than I ever planned to and in the process helped save my grandfather’s life after a minor heart attack went otherwise undetected
Most recent role before starting my own business was on the executive team of a local industrial manufacturer, where I had the opportunity to build a product management organization from scratch and re-tool a marketing team to drive improved results.
During extensive corporate travel, I always learned 10 phrases in the local language anywhere I went. One of them was “Another beer please” which necessitated also knowing “Where is the bathroom?”

Though I didn’t start playing until I was 21, I am a huge hockey fan and intend to play for many years to come (some of the guys I’ve played with have been in their late 60s, so I have a good number to beat)

I’ve been married to my wife Megan for 19 years (as of June 26, 2018) and we have two great kids together.
My approach/philosophy — Patience…it’s better to win in the long run. At the same time, always operate with a bias for action!

Matt King – he was diagnosed in 2010 at 4 years old with Leukemia. He was selected as the honored hero shortly after his diagnosis for the Scenic shore 150 bike ride and has been a force at the ride every year. Last year, in 2017, he became our youngest rider to complete the route at the age of 12. This year, his little sister is taking up the challenge. In 2017, Matt raised $1,225 for the ride!

Roger Nelson: He has ridden every year of our ride (this will be year 26) since our very first one in support of friends. He will complete the ride this year and turn 91 the following week. His wife Barbara rode until she was 81 and only stopped when her vision made riding hazardous. They are a staple every year!
