Lisa Cassenti is a single mom entrepreneur and breast cancer thriver. She received her BA in biology from SUNY at Stony Brook University in 1997. She studied capuchin monkeys in Argentina through SUNY at Stony Brook University, as her initial dream was to work in conservation biology with non-human primates. While applying to graduate school, she took a position working with teenagers with special needs. She fell in love with the children and the field of special education. She completed her student teaching at Bank Street and received her MA in early childhood special education from Teachers College at Columbia University in 2001. Throughout her 24 years in special education, she worked with a primary concentration with children with autism. She worked primarily in early intervention (birth through three years) and CPSE (three through five years), supporting the children with special needs and their families in a variety of community settings. She then served as the Assistant Director for an NYC early intervention program for several years. At the end of 2018, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and found her way to health, hope, and happiness through being introduced to NWM. Her ripple effect is vast via her work in NWM. She adores partnering with single parents, advocates for patients of breast cancer, parents of children with special needs, those who live and work with animals, and female athletes.

Cory Weissman suffered a catastrophic stroke at the age of 19. He was a 1000+ point scorer in his Jackson, NJ high school and was on his way to becoming a standout point guard at Gettysburg College. That all changed on March 26, 2009. However, Cory was determined to not let the debilitating stroke stop him from getting back out onto the basketball court. He worked hard for 3 years to overcome the paralysis of the left side of his body until he finally achieved his goal and had a chance to step back on the court for 1 final game. Not only did he achieve his goal by getting on the hardwood and playing in the game, he scored a highly unlikely point to cap off his college basketball career. 

Cory's story spread nationwide throughout numerous media outlets including ESPN’s Outside the Lines, Yahoo Sports, Sports Illustrated, and NPR. His inspirational story was made into a full feature film called, '1000 to 1: The Cory Weissman Story' starring David Henrie, Beau Bridges, and Jean Louisa Kelly. The movie chronicles Cory's recovery including all of the obstacles and adversity he had to overcome to get back onto the basketball court and score the hardest point of his basketball career.
