If we start vetting them for what they need, vaccines, are their ears infected?, is their skin infected?. Are they Heartworm positive, are they hurt in some other way?. Then two weeks later boom here comes an owner that says “hey thats my dog”…

We have researched the law here in Texas and discussed with at Collin County shelter and they said its all very gray, some say as soon you establish care they belong to you, some say 3 days and some say 5 and some say none at all.

We have had this happen multiple times now, the scruffy dog that looked like Sweeps, the finder had that dog for 5 or 6 days, she was posted on all the social media pages, we all saw her multiple times. Then we took her in, had her for several days, took her to the vet, torn ACL and Heartworm positive and we spent over 1,000 on her just with initial exams, bloodwork, worming, and begin Heartworm treatment. Then poof here comes a guy that says thats my dog and I want her back. He will not compensate us for her vet bills and sadly, we had to give her back, her story was awful, and so was her owner, she lived in the front yard in a pen and he said she was keeping the coyotes and bobcats away, she would never be treated for Heartworm and would die from it, her leg injury, you guessed it, it happened from a coyote almost getting her.

This is where the anger coms from, we cannot and will not use donor dollars for attorneys, it’s just not right so where is the line? Doing right by the dog, doing right and owner…what is the right thing?

It’s a lot harder than you might think and its all on a case by case basis, we encourage you to listen to understand it all.

I want to speak to the village personally for a moment, I spoke last week about this exact subject and the out pouring of donations was heartwarming, it felt like you heard me when I described the downturn of donations and how we continue to operate at a loss that isn’t sustainable. I feel like I need to ask for donations more and anyone that knows me, knows that is hard for me. I don’t have all the answers but I will continue to work hard and fight to raise funds. We used to always have a big once a year auction, last years was not as successful as I had hoped but I choose to learn from that, and regroup rather than give up.

This is what I have decided, and we discuss this in this podcast. We need to seek 10 small ways to raise funds and not count on one big way to raise funds. Ricky and Lorie have a huge inventory of difficult to find liquors of all kinds of varieties, we will most likely have a few raffles up our sleeves. I am open to ideas from the village about this as well, but I need everyone to understand that we are only allowed to have 4 raffles a year per the IRS…. Period.

When it comes to auctions here is how it works, we are allowed 48 hours a year to collect funds from one auction without paying sales tax. This is why when the auction ends we need people to pay their invoice within 48 hours, if it’s not paid we have to pay sales tax for anything paid after that.

I would like to have multiple small auctions during the year, maybe 125 to 150 items max. But…with that being said we will have to pay sales tax on all of the proceeds from each auction. The auction website we use does not collect sales tax so I would either have to find another way or ask people to donate the sales tax to their invoice and hope that they would.

I am currently building two auctions, the one is an all handcrafted artisan auction and right now we are up to about 85 items. The second is donated items that people have been sending to us all year, I worked on that all day yesterday and have about 50 things in it now. I will also sprinkle in a few things from my Mom’s treasures to add a little interest to each auction.

In addition to that I am getting ready to sit down and start creating things to sell in the rescues store, shirts, tumblers, mugs, calendars, note cards, hoodies, all of the things. I would love opinions on what you might want to see or purchase. We have so many big rescues that people love to love and I think using their pics to help the rescue create revenue would be fantastic. By the way if you have or do this kind of work, please reach out to me, I would love some help with a producer and or creator of swag.

It takes a village to continue to do what we do, and we are counting on the village to help, its a big task and requires all our hands on deck for donations, auctions, raffles, and merchandise that we can muster.

It’s truly a huge subject and one that is hard to cover all the nuances in one podcast but we give it our best.

It wasn’t all tears we did laugh and enjoy our memories of the Queen, her huge personality and her years of running the yard at the ranch. She most certainly made an ever lasting imprint on so many of us.

I will talk about it some more and we touched on it a bit in this podcast but we will be implementing a water fountain outside of the office at the ranch in honor of her, I will work to find someone who can make a concrete statue of the queen to sit next to it, I think she would like that to be forever known as the Queen of Lone Star Dog Ranch.

We discuss the subject of microchips, I was a little astonished at how confusing this subject is for so many pet owners. The statistic I found was that 40% of dogs in the country that have microchips are in fact not registered which means they have a chip that will lead to nowhere because no info is attached to it. We try and clarify this subject for so many to help you understand how to make sure your dog not only has a chip but to make sure you get it properly registered to you.

If you don’t know if your dog has a chip you need to take it to your vet and ask them to scan for a chip and take that number and check on it, if it’s there and not registered then go and do that.

We spent the majority of this podcast discussing bad behavior in dogs and why it needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Primarily we discuss Bibble and her vaccuum issues but it goes beyond that.

A few details on the passing of the velvet tiger and of course the heartbreak it has brought.

We missed her terribly and we’re happy to have her back with us. Wes revealed to us that he has turned into a chef at home and now cooks, obviously that was hilarious. Wes inserts photos of his completed meals so enjoy those 😂

A delicate subject that we didn’t discuss at the time because it was very painful and very personal was the loss of one of our beloved clients dogs Rip the Bordeaux pup who you might recall was hospitalized at the same time as Bubbles for the flu and they actually shared an oxygen tank.

Rip didn’t survive the flu, it crushed his family, it crushed all of us and it changed the Lone Star Dog Ranch forever.

Wes has put together a tribute to Rip at the end of this podcast, we will never forget him, his photo hangs in the ranch lobby and is a reminder to us every day as we inform people that the flu vaccine will ALWAYS be a requirement for any dog to step foot in the ranch.

We also discuss bots on the Facebook page, why they are there, how prolific it has become, what is the goal of the bot. So many people think that it’s actually a person that is harassing them personally or us on our page and we try and give details explaining what is happening there.

It feels like we have had so many discussions lately about loss and grief but unfortunately our podcasts are what's going on in our daily life and right now illness and loss in our dogs has been ongoing.

The final conversation about what happened with Melba and how I made the ultimate decision to let her go on and be with my dad. We wanted to provide an update on a subject we talked about several months ago and that is depression and anxiety that both Jessica and Wes have been plagued with. At that time they were both exploring the possibility of ketamine treatment and this podcast has them updating how it went for both of them.

The majority of this podcast we continue our anger about the breeder of these dogs we took into the rescue and the plight of dogs in these circumstances.

Rescuing these dogs from this "breeder" will be the subject of tonights podcast with a special guest appearance from Ricky Barnes. I share with you the details of trying to get these dogs from this woman, and I must tell you that trying to tell the story of these dogs and where they come from, and to try and protect the ability to maybe get more out of there caused me a great deal of stress.

You see as I discuss in the podcast it isn't as easy as just telling the story of the dogs, you have a choice... you tell the story and you piss off the person you are getting them from, and never will you be able to get any others out, or you try and soften the story, try and keep it a little more under wraps to hopefully succeed with getting more of the dogs that are in that hell hole.

I tried to be gentle, I tried to not infuriate her, I really did but it didn't work, you see once the condition of her dogs go up on the page, and the condition of their health, their skin, their ears, and of course Hyacinth dying from pyometra due to her neglect, and then the little pup Larkspur dying from having terrible nutrition and pneumonia.

BUT...she didn't see it that way, she saw it as me lying about her, she sees nothing wrong with the condition of her dogs, she thinks they are fat and healthy and clean.

I'm going to say right now that Ricky could smell the horridness of her house from outside, Ricky said its the worse smell he has ever smelled, and Ricky has seen some things. After I posted about the dogs she went on a rampage blowing up Ricky's phone with voicemails that we all lied and are judgmental about her and she would never work with us again..

Honey, I never lie, and I certainly didn't lie about you.

So we thought it would be best to just discuss the whole topic in ints entirety with all of the details in a podcast.

These dogs lived in hell in a 1,000 sq foot house with nothing but floor to ceiling cages that will knock you over from the yuck in there. Yes she said she was sick for a month in the hospital, yes her aunt died that lived next door and she had to take all of her dogs. BUT ....yes she has been doing this for years and years and years and nothing has ever changed..so the excuse of being sick is just that, an excuse.

It is disgusting, Ricky was livid and wanted to do anything possible to get more dogs out of there, that is why we offered to buy some from her, we succeeded, but we obviously struck a nerve with showing the public what dogs look like coming out of her care and her house..Wes always says shame is a powerful thing

I failed to tow the line between calling her out on every single filthy thing we saw, or trying to buffer her from that, and get more dogs. It makes me sad that I couldn't balance it because I know the dogs in there need out, but I also know that this lady is just one of thousands of other backyard breeders that are gross and have no business doing what they are doing.

Anyway we discuss it at length in tonights podcast but I wanted you to know the struggle this has been. Including the act that no laws are broken here, she would be seen as keeping a roof over their head, she fed them and that would be that..

This is one of those podcasts for fun, Jessica and I are going to Italy and have finally booked the flight, this is a trip that I have wanted to make for at least 8 years, Laura won’t come and we never let her hear the end of it.

Tonights podcast we discuss adopting older dogs, the fear of losing dogs that may not have as long of a life as a younger dog, and grief and how people deal with that in various ways.

Laura recently changed her little tiny dogs to dehydrated raw food so we discuss that topic for a while, from there its carrot cake, cookies, chocolate pie and traveling home from Oklahoma in ice.

We feel like a broken record but its what is engulfing our life right now. This podcast was filmed yesterday where we discussed Bubbs and then we lighted the conversation because it tends to get exhausting and heavy. Laura fills us in on her New Years Resolution and her enjoyment of the purge...

This is the last podcast we recorded for 2022, sadly it had us discussing the virus, discovering a clients dog passing away in the night and of course we discuss Jolene at length.

I know that all of you know how difficult this was, I know that many of you have been through the same thing, and I know that there are many of you who are facing it right now. We try and discuss it in every way possible to help people with the feelings that come with this, it certainly is a very difficult decision and because I discuss it openly and honestly, it leaves me open for criticism and this is exactly why so many people feel shame and guilt about making the same decision.

I hope those of you who feel that will listen to this podcast, and hopefully it will help ease that pain, even if it's just a little bit.

We wanted to circle back and discuss the treatment that Jessica was headed for with depression on a podcast a few weeks back. In addition to a few other topics we will fill you in on how that went as well.

This podcast is off of the topic of dogs, but that’s just how it goes sometimes.

I know so many people that struggle with mental health including Wes and Jessica who struggle every day with depression and or anxiety. It seems that it is an epidemic, tonights podcast gets personal with the subject and what we feel like contributes to it especially with young people now.

I’ll leave it at that, it may be something you have no interest in, it may be something you have great interest in, when recording a podcast sometimes the topic heads off in a way we didn’t anticipate, we are just people sitting together and having a discussion.

Jessica was out of town but Eva stepped in for a little bit in our podcast to fill us in on Taylor Swift 😂

We discussed lots of updates about how Melba is doing and handling making adjustments for a very old dog. We also spent lots of time discussing my pack with Jolene and Ed and Loretta on what I have seen and how that is going.

As I mentioned earlier this week we spend some time discussing the situation with Jolene and Ed at the house. I do want to clarify a few things because I think people tend to imagine the worst case scenario and so I want to talk little bit further in this post.

Some people wondered why Ed would be sent to the other side of the house thinking that was some sort of punishment to her, it very much isn’t. Ed is 10 years old and she sleeps the majority of the day. Jolene is 1.5 years old and has lots of energy and it would make no sense to do anything but have Ed on the other side of the house. It causes her no stress whatsoever so it truly is the best option.

I also think people imagine things like they can never be together, like ever which is also untrue, Jolene is not a monster that attacks a dog on sight, this situation has occurred because of Ed behaving erratically triggered by me moving in and out of the house, and she is responding to that.

I know lots of people have dogs that will just look at another dog and attack it, I assure you this is not the situation we have here.

There is no one answer for why, and how, and what is causing this kind of problem in peoples homes, they are all different personalities, with different energy levels, and lots, and lots, and lots, of extenuating circumstances so there is no way to explain the how and the why for every persons dynamic in their home.

Anyway that’s what a lot of tonights podcast is about, we welcome Laura back from being so ill. Lordy the conversation takes a precarious turn that I’m not even going to touch…

This is a discussion that I have wanted to talk bout for a very long time. Getting Dr. Reno can be difficult as she is very busy but this week we snagged her.

The topic that I wanted to discuss is the subject of spaying and neutering our dogs and the controversy with many that spaying and neutering large dogs or giant dogs too early leads to a higher incidence of joint disorders. At this point in time it seems to have just become fact and we hear it over and over again from clients that they want to wait until their dog is 14 to 24 months old before spaying and neutering, but I think you need to consider all of the information before making your decision based on this one study. There are many things to consider and that is why I wanted to talk about this subject.

This information came from a study out of UC Davis almost 10 years ago and what we discuss is in my opinion and Dr. Reno's opinion that the study is very limited to be basing all of our decisions on it. What doesn't get factored in these decisions is the behavioral issues that arise from not spaying and neutering dogs until they are adults.. That is what we discuss in this podcast. At Lone Star Dog Ranch a dogs behavior is let to being a happy social dog that is able to stay with us and we feel that behavior is ignored in these decisions that  families are making based on this study and the results of 759 Golden Retrievers only from the age of 1 to 8.

As promised we worked really hard on this podcast to try and get all of these Bordeaux’s the exposure that they need in order to find them homes. When we have this many Bordeaux’s we are positive it becomes a blur on who is who and what is this dog about and what is that dog about.

So because of that we gathered together myself and Travis and Wes and invited Emma and Jennah who also work with these Bordeaux’s every day and know the ins and the outs of each of them.

So that’s what we did we discussed them one at a time as individual and tried to include lots of photos and videos of each one of them to help you identify them and get to know them better.

Soooo. sometimes we sit down to podcast and we have absolutely nothing planned to talk about...

Tonights podcast is the part two continuation of our podcast sitting down with Aaron Stewart the trainer from The Educated Dog

We welcomed Aaron Stewart from The Educated Dog to come sit in with us on a podcast, we literally talked for hours so we had to divide the 3 hours into two podcasts. This is part one, we will share part two some time soon. Aaron has years of experience training dogs and lots of good stories to talk about. We hope you enjoy listening in.

A couple of months ago we recorded a podcast with the history and back story of all of our dogs, only those that are currently living.

As I said last night, I have always known that I needed to do a podcast about Mooie alone. It’s hard to explain the essence of Mooie but thousands of you have been here long enough to remember.

She meant everything to me, she was tiny, she was hilarious, she was fearless, and she was undeterred by anything life threw at her and when you listen to this podcast you will understand just how much was thrown at her, and subsequently me.

The story obviously doesn’t have a happy ending, Mooie was ripped away from me in 2016 at the age of 8, but that doesn’t mean this podcast is filled with sorrow, there are lots of funny stories and photos and videos of this little nut Moo Moo.

Poor Wes has worked his fingers to the bone with getting the Bet video done before this morning but in addition to that I spent 3 hours gathering photos and videos of Mooie that he has to sort through and get inserted into the podcast at the appropriate times. I added so many videos at the end of Mooie at her best, chasing chickens, loving puppies, chasing the mop, etc etc etc…

I’m sure its clear to you just how much I adored this dog and I cry today when think about her and remember the pain and the loss but I can also recall the hilarity that was Mooie.

I will warn you there are some graphic photos when we discuss flesh eating bacteria trying to literally eat her alive, I felt it was important to put them in to understand the magnitude of what this little 13 pound dog had to overcome.

I mostly hope you walk away after watching this podcast with a good solid understanding of the story of Mooie…

Tonights podcast we welcomed Emma to come in and sit with us. Emma works at the ranch and works at the sanctuary. She is a vet tech with lots of experience working in a very busy ER.

We thought we would tackle a lot of subjects including dogs overheating, snakebites, reverse sneezing, and bloat to name a few.

Travis of course updates us on Birdie with her snake bite and we did have to handle a live emergency during this podcast that we left in because that is our life and you want to be able to see and hear that.

We made it!!

Back upstairs to the podcast room after a couple of months with not ability to get up there.

We primarily focus this podcast on a dog like Missi, a returned intelligent rescue who took ownership of her home. We try to go into all of the details of how this happens, what it looks like very early on and how to correct it if this is what might be happening to you.

This podcast is a continuation of last weeks podcast where we talked for too long so e divided it into two podcasts.

The discussion focused on the update with the cats and how things are going with princess locked up in her own space. We also discussed the state of the rescue right now in todays world of owner surrenders, rescues with no space and shelters at over capacity.

I will close with this podcast where we discussed quite. few things including snacking your dogs, and feeding a raw diet along with lots of other things. We will not have a podcast next week while I try and navigate a new normal with only having one leg.

In this podcast we talked and talked some more about my injury, my surgery and my recovery with everyone having their suggestions on what I will have to do on a daily basis with the kind of injury I have, sadly I will be in a wheelchair and I’m unsure how many weeks or months that will be.

I would like to reach out to the village for anyone who works in the world of medical equipment that might be able to advise or recommend on how to make my life work. In addition we discussed Kobuk because he was such an interesting case for us in the rescue with a happily ever after we weren’t sure he would ever have.

We picked up where we left off a bit from last weeks podcast with lots of questions sent to us about discerning fear aggression from true aggression. We talk about many of our past rescues to help explain. Travis tells some stories about many dogs you might recall.

I spent some time talking about grooming dogs that need haircuts and starting young with them and the benefits of that and we also discussed my history of grooming cats and the cat attacks that unfortunately I have in my resume.

We came back this week in our podcast and of course we had to discuss the attack on Ricky and the subsequent decision to euthanize Carlsbad. The topic of unpredictable dogs and dog attacks in general and our responsibilities with placing dogs in our rescue. It’s an important conversation and we spend quite a bit of time discussing it.

We then touched on the subject of the barn cats and the discovery we had about feeding them raw food, I will cover the topic in a future post but we discuss all of the details in this podcast.

When we gather and record a podcast lots of times we just sit and shoot the crap and huck it up before we actually get to the podcast. We don’t usually include that in the podcast but this time I thought what the hell I will share some of it with you, some of us don’t even have our microphones close enough but I think you can still hear it all. If you want to know what video we are laughing about just go to Youtube and search for Bobby Done Fell and you will find it. It makes us all laugh so hard every time and this time was no different.

Once the podcast actually begins we discuss the subject of dog scams that people fall into on social media with thinking they are buying a puppy that these scammers don’t actually even have. We also spend some time talking about dogs with IBD and our history with that.

And then there is Travis who ran off with my Bessie to a party with his friends and the trouble he got in!!!

We are always glad the Laura’s husband Danny doesn’t listen to our podcasts because he is the subject of our humor many times.

We get stuck on Danny’s chair that Laura hates so very much and she explains all of the details with it along with “family time”

Our serious topic is the changes at the sanctuary with hiring the girls to work over there. All of our thoughts about it and how we all felt that this would be the most optimal thing we could do for the dogs. We thought about this for a very very long time and we finally made the decision to just go for it and we think it's going to be a game changer for the dogs and for the rescue.

We discuss Travis as the now infamous “Cat Daddy” I swear to you I’m going to make a shirt. We give you all of the details on how that is going, we then discuss rescuing a big group of dogs and the subject of Pit Bulls and their plight.

We finish the podcast with my reflection on the one and only donkey boy aka Koufax, his love for Hawaiian rolls and his special relationship with Mabel. This video made me cry and I’m sure it will do the same for many of you. I had Koufax for almost 5 years and I assure you he was probably 10 years old if not older. I worked hard to make it work for him in my home and I think he had a blessed life.

We think you will enjoy this podcast, the boys get to taste the new cookie on camera and give you their feedback. Somehow our conversations lead to all kinds of topics, and this one is no different, we laugh, and we are serious all rolled into one. We hope you enjoy this one too.

Another year gone, and the first podcast of the year. I thought I might reflect back on the year some and look forward some and talk a little bit about this podcast too.

This year was tough just like last year but Covid caused pain in different ways this year than last. Last year we lost all of our business in the period of about two weeks when we sheltered in place, this year people moved out more and took trips by trying to be as safe as possible, road trips, remote trips, camping trips, beach house trips. People get creative when trying to have a vacation and a pandemic at the same time.

This year Covid hit very close to home and killed our only employee Asheley, the pain was just too much and it then hit us as well, thankfully vaccinated even though I was very sick I was going to be okay and I was. Wes also came down with it and at the very end of the year one of our new employees Emma came down with it, Laura, and her whole family are currently trying to recover, volunteers are hit wit it, Dr. Renos staff and just about everyone you know is sick with it. I just hope they are all vaccinated.

We had a good year with business until Omicron came to show itself, we were booked for Christmas and then as the holiday approached cancellations came too. Day by day people called cancelling sick with covid, relatives they were traveling to see were sick with covid and ultimately we lost about 20% of our Christmas bookings due to Covid. Nothing to do but keep pushing forward, withe very single aspect of it.

I lost Georgia this year she was an old girl that lived a great life but it doesn’t make it any easier, I have so many senior dogs I was grateful to have only lost one of them this year. The changes at the Ranch were pretty big, Kirk retired with declining health, we lost Asheley and replaced them both with 4 new employees, which was huge for us.

Those of you that are clients will be meeting them as you come in, they are a great group of kids with lots of experience working with dogs. When you come in allow them to introduce themselves to you and please welcome them, we know it’s different for people to come in and not see us but we assure you they are all great. Emma, Makala, Jennah and Wyatt. It was high time we took some of the pressure off of us and asked for some help with experienced people.

In this podcast we talk quite a bit about Bessie and her allergies, in addition we are never going to give up our cookie business, its turned out to be pretty popular and you know what after going through this pandemic with the loss of business we diversified into cookies, a store, and podcasting because we just aren’t going to keep all of our eggs in one basket anymore. In this podcast we talk about making a new cookie and what we think we might like to make and what we think all of you might like to try. We encourage you to chime in about that too.

We also discuss Covid and Laura’s family and we would like to talk to the village and ask how all of you are doing personally with yourself or your family. Has covid affected your life? Have you lost people you love? Are you a healthcare worker? And if so how are you doing? I think it really helps for us to talk together in this village we have, share stories and support one another. This village is about way more than rescuing dogs, it’s a community and I encourage people to share in this community to find some kind words and support that might make all of us feel better. Can we all hope that we might be able to move to an endemic and away from a pandemic? I’m just so very sick and tired of this virus, so weary and I just want it to go away..

You probably don’t know this but Travis has some crazy tendencies, he’s pretty type A about procedures and the beginning of this podcast will give you a little glimpse into that insanity, and please note the half squeeze is very important!!!

It happens to be about how to clean up poop dens but oh well, that is our life…

We spend the rest of the podcast giving you a glimpse into a week of our life, which this past one was filled with so many things, including the loss of Gina, the difficulties with Jace and the return of Pony and all of the struggles that go with all of those things.

A couple of pieces of info, Trav’s camera failed and therefore Wes had to try and just use the room camera to make it work for Travis, it sucks but that’s just how it goes sometimes. Also please hang to the end after the credits roll for a tribute to Gina by her foster mom Christi.

This is the last podcast of the year, we enjoy spending time with you telling stories, laughing, crying sometimes, trying to teach things other times, and basically just giving you much more information on the day to day stories that Facebook only captures a tiny bit of the details, we hope you have enjoyed them as well. We will continue to make them as long as people want to come along and so far we feel like we have done okay with them.

A little peek at Wes at work, for a guy who has had absolutely no training at editing or sound, but we think does a pretty darn good job. This is our 53rd podcast which means its just past one year, kind of crazy but here we are week after week. If you look at the pics on Wes's monitors I think you can see we are discussing Dogue De Bordeaux's aka French Mastiff aka a breed we adore, and have owned for over 20 years.

We discuss the breed, the health, the history the tendencies and generalities of the breed.

We sat down to have this podcast on the same night it was Wes’s birthday, little did we know just as the podcast began we got the news that Abraham had been killed by a train.

We have few opportunities in the week to get our podcast recorded and you guys follow along with us through our lives and quite frankly sometimes that’s the good, as well as the bad, so this podcast begins with us coming to terms with what had happened to Abraham before we can continue to discuss Jace, Nanas and Parade.

What is this podcast about?

It begins with what I will call Lauraism's.

She makes me laugh everyday and when you tune in you will learn these terms, Terrible business, The Swordsman, Up in your bed, Taking a bath, and Showing your ass. After you hear this podcast you will know all of them.

We then led into the details on poor little Puddles the Bulldog we lost.

We then went into details on boarding facilities and what you know about the facility you might use? in a addition to using trainers and what do they know?

We wanted to film and release this podcast before the auction ended, so that is what we did. We are so grateful for all of our donations, it is truly incredible what people send to us, but we thought it would be nice for us to try and talk about some of them in our podcast and bring a little more light to them and some of the people behind them.

We are just on the brink of reaching our goal with just one more day left before the auction ends on Sunday October 24th.

Well, it took us a while but we finally had a sit down with Mr. Ricky Barnes, this is almost a 2 hour podcast and we barely scraped the surface of stories to talk to him about.

Ricky has been just a life saving component to Dog Ranch Rescue, so many dogs that he has come to their aid, and transported them to their new life. We touch base on personal questions as well, a little history and tried to get some of your questions answered for you. We will absolutely have Ricky back again but for the fist time sit down with him we think you will really enjoy the conversation.

We spent some time talking about all of the things we remembered about Asheley, the things we loved about her. Our conversation evolves into spelling, Math, travel, changing tires on a car and lord knows what else.

This podcast is what I would call chit chat, we needed a podcast that wasn’t heavy, one where I didn’t cry.

As they used to say about Seinfeld it was a show about nothing, but it was a show that I loved and it truly was about nothing. As we continue doing podcasts I get more and more comfortable with the fact that many times it will be a podcast about nothing. What does that mean? It means we invite you into sitting down with us for just casual conversation and wherever that conversation leads. Obviously dogs are a big part of our life so the majority of time our conversation is going to include talking about dogs. Other times it can be anything at all and we just don’t know where it will lead.

As you all know we have had so much stress and so much sadness at the ranch its been reflected in our last two podcasts. We can't apologize for that because our podcasts are real and sometimes they are raw. We basically share our thoughts and feelings with you each week and times have been tough.

We sat down to this podcast and we just wanted to talk about things that were lighter so we did, we talked about vacations that we can't take due to covid and we talked about vacations that we took in the past. Somehow it fell into baseball and we share some of out thoughts on teams we dislike and why

It was nice to laugh and just talk about lighter things, we did have to end talking about what happened with Georgia so once again I end up crying in our podcast and I once again need to say, I'm typically not a crier but there certainly has been a lot of tears shed lately.

We were not able to bring a podcast to you last week because of illness. Covid has struck the ranch and while I recover sadly Asheley continues to fight for her life. There is no improvement and she is still on the EcMo and will be for the foreseeable future.

Travis could not join us for this podcast, its just emotionally too hard for him right now. I tried not to cry in this podcast but Jessica and I both failed at that.

The subject is just that its Covid, and its compassion. Our podcasts are just us speaking about how we feel, and how we think, with what is going on with life at the ranch. After the post I put up about Asheley that brought about negative comments we absolutely could not go without discussing this topic. I'm sure people will disagree, I am sure some people will get angry, but that isn't the point, the point is this is how we feel, this is what we are doing.

I shared with you guys several days ago how I was feeling down and stressed about the pandemic. It felt good to talk about it, the struggle is real and more and more people that we know are sick with Covid. Our employee is now very ill and we are so worried about her. My son in law Doug was ill with it and my granddaughter Eva was also very sick with it, and Jessica now has a good friend that has been hospitalized. It just keeps getting worse.

I will share some of what my post that I shared for those of you that missed it. I do also want to say that when we started a podcast it was with the though in mind of not only sharing our lives with dogs, with the rescue, with educating about dog behavior but we felt like if you wanted to hang out with us then our podcasts will sometimes just be conversation about whatever is on our mind. That is what this podcast is, we gather around and discuss our feelings about how we feel about some things.

As I discussed a little earlier part of tonights podcast discusses predators around your yard and how we all feel about that and how we all handle that, in addition you will hear us discuss all of our different philosophies on housebreaking with our pack…no we all don’t agree as you will hear.

In addition to that I go into great detail the trouble that I am having with Georgia and her being a very old dog and how her behavior is now affecting the pack and is endangering her safety at home. I am working on taking care of these issues with the help of Dr. Reno and hopefully I can get this situation handled better.

We were excited to have our first time guest for our podcast with Dr Reno. 

We had many things to discuss but first and foremost the subject of the high rate of suicide in veterinarians was a very important topic for Dr Reno to hopefully help all of understand their industry better. The difficulties brought on due to Covid that none of them expected and the stress on vets causing the statistics of suicide to be one of the highest in the nation. 

I encourage you to listen and help everyone understand exactly why this is happening, it’s probably nothing you’ve thought about before, and we are hoping to educate the public about this subject. 

When we began recording a podcast we knew that we would be sharing many things about our lives, our jobs, our dogs, and sometimes what happens in our lives is difficult, sometimes we go through the process of loss and that happens with rescue dogs, our own dogs and even village members that have adopted from us and have become like family to all of us.

This podcast is exactly that, the discussion of the week we just went through, our thoughts and our feelings about all of it. All of our podcasts won't be funny, or about educating, sometimes its just about us and loss and things and people we care about and that's what this one is.

Tonights podcast will have you joining us for conversation about a lot of things. Sir Frederick taken to the ER, the struggles with Richie, the struggles of taking care of extremely old dogs and their end of life.

We also spent some time talking about Panda Bear and the difficulties in finding a home for her, due to her psychologically being damaged and all of the thoughts and decisions that go into choosing a home for her.

We also discussed the admiration and appreciation we have for our medical team and how much it means to us to have a relationship with all of them, not only for our rescues but for our own personal dogs too.

As I said earlier with a short promo of this podcast. The subject matter is about breeders. As I explain in this podcast that term is too broad, and the great breeders are tossed in with the garbage breeders and made into villains as if they are the same as commercial breeders or worse yet dirty hoarder backyard breeders. This scale is huge everyone, and cannot be thrown into one pile together.

I have always been a supporter of reputable breeders and I always will be, but you must understand what the two different worlds look like and why they are not the same.

I didn't want to talk about designer dogs but invariably because of what has happened in our society with them, and the phenomena and demand that exists it was impossible to avoid. I will not disparage the dogs themselves but we don't hold back on how we feel about this subject, and the suffering the dogs take on because of it.  its a shame, a damn shame. Yes I recognize that some people are rescuing designer dogs, but the vast majority of them are purchased continuing this cycle, and no matter how you feel about that we take the time to express our opinion about the Doodle phenomena and how they do not fall into the category of coming from a reputable breeder and why.

Once again this is a very large topic, and we will revisit it again and again, dogs are our passion and that's one of the things we love about having a podcast is to express our thoughts and feelings on subjects with dogs that mean a lot to us.

This is our 31st podcast and normally the video versions of our podcasts require a subscription, it's rare when we release one to the public for free and this is only the second time we have done so.

Please remember our goal with what we do on social media and in our podcast is provide information and education, and that is why we determined that this podcast would be shared to all. We hope our subscribers understand our mission and why we have opted to do that this time.

Tonights podcast is all about dogs and behavior. We try and stay on the subject of bringing a dog into your house, the issues that arise, how to go about doing that in the best way. There are lots of variables to this subject and we try and go into detail on all of the aspects. We go into details on submissive dogs, middle of the pack dogs, and dominant dogs and we even headed down the road to talk about dog parks a little bit.

We hope there is some helpful information in this podcast and if it leads to more questions then by all means shout out your questions and it may be a future podcast in the making.

Tonights podcast we spend some time talking about Jim Bob, the details on his rescue, happier times and stories of who he was, and of course his passing. Travis couldn’t attend this podcast he was just too sad about Jim to come and discuss.

Bryan and Jim Bob truly had a love affair like no other. Breaks my heart that he has lost him.

We discussed further in the podcast about the rescue and many of the details on issues that arise with us and how we make decisions about rescuing more dogs and all of the factors that go into our day to day lives with the rescue.

Sometimes when we sit down to record a podcast we don’t really have an idea of what we want to talk about - this was one of those times. We had some bear pups with us, talked about the donut group of rescues including the new pup Munchkin, and of course the conversation was derailed down a number of tracks…

Tonights podcast is up and this week we begin with saying goodbye to Joe Joe and how we all felt about that and the process of choosing his new home. We also discussed the bear pups, the fears of losing them to distemper, the jinx of talking about them according to Wes and Travis. Unfortunately we did have to discuss losing another one of Orbit's pups to distemper and the pain that goes along with that. We know at some point we will get through it all but as you can imagine it is painful. No worries the conversation isn't all dark, there is always humor and this podcast has humor too.

Tonights podcast...  come along and have dinner with us, Laura brought us pizza and we discuss many things from the passing of Bernice, Lamont and his IBD and we then spent some detailed time discussing the motorcycle accident from Mothers Day. A podcast is the perfect platform to be able to discuss all details of this event.  I am in touch with Colins mom Stephanie and happy to tell you that he is out of the hospital, walking with a walker, he's got a long way to go but this was very good news indeed.

As usual we go off topic many times and have lots of laughs during our podcasts and this time we veer right off topic into the discussion of poop, yep poop.. From dogs pooping in weird places to a hilarious story and video of one of our team captains Anne and her poop adventure at the sanctuary.. 😂

Tonight's podcast is a continuation from last week where we discussed all of the crazy nicknames our dogs have but the podcast led into the topic of catching lost dogs. It truly is a very complicated thing to catch a lost dog. So many variables come into play, the dogs behavior, the location, how long its been lost, etc etc..

We discuss a few stories of us catching dogs that were lost and hopefully it will give you some insight into the topic. Georgia is a common topic as a "helper" in catching a dog, dogs can be used as a tool to help and Georgia has always been one of the best.

This is one of those family podcasts where its just silly conversation about our dogs, nicknames, and voices that we have made up for them. We know we aren't the only crazy ones, come on along and then share with us the nicknames and silly stories you have about your dogs.

We intended to discuss mill auctions and how they work. We were successful for a bit before getting derailed to doodles, how those got started and the plight of the poodle. We end with desserts and the burning life questions of "what is a custard? Is it banana bread or cake? What dessert is yucky? What is a cut gallon? Baklava? What is a ramekin? Red Pistachios? Dressing or stuffing?

First we cover Joe Joe and his amputated leg. We cover how this leg was injured and lost and why he can't use a prosthetic to help him around. 

One of the craziest cases we have ever tackled early on, Miracle Marcus. What a hail Mary trying to save that dog that by all accounts should never have made it.
