This episode builds on the previous eleven which cover the first chapter of John's Gospel. Since this passage in Chapter Two marks the first of signs and wonders, it carries with it many symbols related to various biblical themes, many of which readers of the New Testament often overlook. From the perspective of motifs and imagery found in the Old Testament we find a wealth of correlative details which glorify God as they work together to solidify in hearts the majesty and wonder which only God could put together so perfectly in His Word through the inspired writers.

This episode builds on the last with more specific details on how Christ builds a group of disciples through pre-established relationships and how these familial and friendly bonds produce a group of devotees that would carry out the Great Commission even before Jesus instructed them to do so. Their knowledge of the Scripture and their expectation of Christ's arrival kept them ready. The behaviors exhibited in John's narrative of the events provide for us an example of how to live out our faith with expectation of Christ's return and how to maximize our missionary endeavors organically through the pre-established relationships designed by God's sovereign hand which make opportunity for us to tell others the Good News of Jesus Christ.

THE HOLY WEEK SERIES #2

The frequency of references to the Light in the Bible, with particular interest to both God the Father and Christ the Son plays an important role in describing God Himself, but also the character of God. In John Chapter 12, Jesus builds on this motif in metaphorically calling people to not only believe in Him as the Christ, but to follow Him as He lights their way. He extends the same invitation to us wherein He will lead us to become children of the Light, a privileged position not but by family bonds but by the will of God by grace through faith in Christ.
