Jesus will deliver a man from demon possession and is instantly attacked. (What else is new) They hurl verbal abuse at Him in the form of declaring that He/Jesus casts out demons by the ruler of the demons. It is in this exchange that we find out about a sin that is unforgivable: Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Today we will find out exactly what that means?

As we jump back into the Gospel of Matthew, we come to a confrontation between Jesus and the Pharisees. The Pharisees have a problem with what Jesus is allowing His disciples to do. You see, the religious leaders have set up a massive list of dos and don'ts about the Sabbath (Mostly don'ts). What they've done is overcomplicated the Sabbath to the point that it became a day of burden instead of a day of rest. Jesus is decluttering it. He is simplifying faith by contesting their objections. Join me as we take a look at Simple faith.

All Things New - Easter Sunday // April 05, 2026

Luke tells us of the Angels visitation announcing the Arrival of Messiah and announcing the news of Great Joy. We have Joy in the Incarnation of the Son of God. The Psalmist said, “Those who sow in tears will reap Joy.” The Arrival of Jesus brings about the Joy of our salvation.

It All Begins With You // Miracles In Matthew // November 09, 2025

Today, we examine the calling of a despised man called Matthew. He is a tax-collector, which means he is Jewish but working for the Romans. And so he is a hated man. AND THEN Jesus calls him to follow Him. That could be trouble in the ranks of Jewish disciples right there. But here is what I want to focus on today. This one man, Matthew, upon being called by Jesus to follow instantly, sets up a dinner for Jesus and invites all his sinner friends. I think there is a message there, and the message is this: It all begins with YOU. When you become a Christian, you turn around and try to bring your friends and family to Jesus. Because after all, who knows more unbelievers than a just saved person! Yes, friend, it all begins with YOU.

Now we come to that moment when Light meets Darkness. The boat survived the storm and they land on the other side of the Sea only to be met by a demon possessed man. I can only imagine the disciples thoughts, “Great, we survive a storm, we are soaking wet, we are exhausted, and now this?” It is in this interaction between Jesus and the demon inhabiting the man do we see what happens when “Light meets darkness.”

Today Jesus takes into territory that we must be aware of; False Prophets coming in to the church with false teaching. As a Bible teacher I am always on high alert to this because false teachers come in to lead the flock astray and away. As we continue through Matthew Jesus gives us specifics to recognize in order to avoid the false teaching of the false prophets. Now I will add that I am going to take this and apply it to what we’ll call “False partners.” Meaning, how to spot someone that you should not enter into relationship with. Should be a good one!!

It’s one of those Psalms that has an imbedded question that we all wrestle, “How come God?” I think we all have moments where we look at others and think, “How come they are blessed that way and not me?” And by the way it is okay to question God, He is a big boy. Psalm 2 has to be one of the more interesting Psalms. The writer begins with the futility of the nations rebelling against God. He quickly moves to the Anointed One to come. AND THEN, he hits us with the “Ask of Me and I will give the nations” verse. His point is, there will come a time when Jesus the Anointed One resets all things. When He takes back the world and all the nations. It will be the great “reset” for all eternity. Join me this Sunday because it should be interesting!

Yeah, I’d say life is bad. But it is in this Psalm that we can learn some important lessons in David’s response to these attacks. One Substitute // One Way // April 13, 2025

Jesus will not be brought to trial, first with the religious leaders and ultimately by Pontius Pilate. As the trial unfolds before Pilate one thing is obvious to him, Jesus is innocent. But Pilate is in a pressure cooker and succumbs to the angry mob screaming for Jesus to be crucified. Ultimately his only way out is to give them an option, Jesus or Barabbas. Shockingly they choose Barabbas and Jesus will be delivered to die as a substitute.

The Missing Piece Of The Puzzle // Christmas Eve // December 24, 2024

We finish our Christmas series examining something Mary did upon hearing the shepherd's report about an angelic visitation. It says she pondered all the things surrounding the birth of Jesus. Pondered is idea of putting all the pieces together like a puzzle. Now think, Jesus is now born and all the pieces come together in her mind. The same holds true for a person who chooses to follow Christ. When Jesus is born again in us, the puzzle pieces of our life come together because Jesus is the missing piece that completes the puzzle.

The Magi have found Jesus. They have been instructed by Herod that when they find the new King of the Jews, to inform him as to His location so that he may worship Jesus also. But of course, he is lying because he desires to assassinate Jesus. God speaks to the Magi in a dream to depart home by a different route. Now think, on the one hand, you have the instructional voice of Herod and on the other hand you have the voice of God instructing them to go a different way. We all face this dilemma at times; listening to the voice of God in a sea of other voices.

Paul the writer of Colossians finishes his letter with the mentioning of some of his friends. You can hear his heart and his feelings he has for these friends of his. One of the sadder things in life is to hear someone say, “I don’t need anyone.” That is absolutely not true. And it sure isn’t Biblical because God said in the beginning, “It’s not good for man to be alone.” And yes it was said about a marital companion, but it is also true on a wider spectrum. We need friends. We need people. We need others. And Paul is taking us down the road of “Why I need friends.”

I imagine that everyone would love to live an effective life. What I mean is, we have a deep desire to positively influence family, people and culture by the way we live. I’ve had a number of what I call, “recallable moments” where someone impacted me greatly by their words. These recallable moments didn’t just shake me for a few seconds, it change the course of my life for years to come. And what is wild about it is, those people had no idea the deep impact their words had on my life. Friends, we can all live an effective impacting life and Paul in this teaching points us to how we can do just that. So Sunday we will look at “Living an effective life.”

Paul the writer of Colossians now travels into the depths of what salvation in Christ means. And one of the bigger truths is, we are free. Now, before I was a Christian I really thought I was free. But after I came to Christ I realized I’m not free at all, I’m a slave. What kind of slave you ask? I realized I was a slave to sin and that sin was going to accomplish two things: First, destroy me and Second, plunge me into an eternity apart from God. In this teaching Paul will enlighten us to what Jesus did with our heavy debt of sin to set us free.

I just returned from a checkup with the Doctor and she told me I was lacking something in my system. I asked her what kinds of foods do I need to eat to build that element up in me. She said, “Milk, Cheese, and Yogurt.” I laughed and said, “Doc, those are all a no. I don’t like any of them.” And of course that is why I’m lacking something. She gave me other alternatives like nuts and oatmeal. I said, “Ok, I can do that.” As we begin the letter to the Colossian church, Paul opens up with elements we need in our spiritual system for proper spiritual health. This teaching I’ve titled, “Eating right” will lay out what Paul is telling every believer what they regularly need in their spiritual system.

Jesus told us that He gives us His Peace, but not a peace that the world gives. Before I came to Christ my peace was based on what was going on in my life AND my possessions. That meant that peace was based on things that can change at any moment. It was based on events that many times I had no control over. But when I came to Christ, I experienced an unchanging peace not based on possessions, but on a person who loves me and never abandons me. This Sunday Paul will take us on a peace journey as we continue through Philippians.

I wear glasses. I need them to read words on a page, but I also need them to read the signs on a Freeway. Without them I might end up in Corona Del Mar instead of good old Corona. My point is, the proper lenses get me to where I need to go. Hear me, when life throws us a curve the difference between peace and anxiety is “what I believe.” What I believe from God’s word is the proper lens to view through when worry encroaches upon my life. Our Journey actually culminates three days after the event of the crucifixion with the Resurrection of Jesus. The foundation of our faith in Jesus Christ, the basis for our being born again Christians is founded upon the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave after His gruesome execution. Paul the ex-Pharisee and previous murderer of Christians upon His conversion to Christ would write, “If Christ has not risen from the dead then our faith is worthless and we are still in our sins.” Without the death and resurrection of Jesus we would all be lost for eternity.

It is Resurrection season and we begin our new series “Journey to the Cross” with Jesus locked in on entering into Jerusalem to finish the mission. It all begins with excitement as people celebrate His entering the city with shouts of Hosanna. But that will quickly fade as the confrontation with the city leadership escalates with Him ruining their nefarious money making enterprise. Jesus, the people, and those in power making the money all know of the corruption. As Jesus cleanses the Temple of the corruption, this becomes the first of multiple confrontations that will lead to the His execution on a cross for the sins of mankind.

He's Arrived // Christmas Eve // December 24, 2023

All-important arrivals carry with them much impact. I can think back to each of my six Grandchildren’s birth and the joy and impact they had on my and my wife’s life. One thing that happened was, there arrival impacted my home. I thought we were ready to get rid of things and streamline our lives. Well, that plan went out the window. The arrival of the Grandkids brought with it high chairs, baby walkers, a crib, a baby swing, an outdoor swing…do I need to say more. And we just added our second high chair in our dining room. Yup, the arrival of these munchkins has had quite the impact in our lives. As we finish off our Christmas series we will see how the arrival of Jesus impacted people in different ways. In this message we will define what the Gospel is, because we can’t share it if we don’t know it. And then we will be challenged to again seek opportunities to share the Good News with others.

We begin a new series on Generosity and generosity has many avenues. The first we will explore is being generous with forgiveness. C.S. Lewis said, “Everyone thinks that forgiveness is a great idea until they have something to forgive.” I have found that is true about humanity, but totally contrary to the heart of God. Jesus came and sacrificed His life to forgive us of every one of our sins and if He did that for me…then I should be able to do that for others.

The Spirit Led Person // The Letter To Galatia // October 29, 2023

As we conclude Galatians Paul will continue with the Spirit led life with specific practical applications and evidences of a Spirit led person. It is one thing to say I live by the Spirit and it is another thing to actually live what is described as a Spirit led life. Paul will give us a clear view again of what that life looks like. He will lead off with what should be obvious; A Spirit led person is a restorer, which is in opposition to a person of the flesh which by definition in chapter 5, bites and devours. We are called to restore others without every excusing sin. Jesus came to set people free and we are an extension of Him in this world.

I think all believers know that we have a daily internal struggle. A battle of our flesh and spirit. A battle to do right not wrong. In Galatians 5 we quickly find it is a battle of appetites. My flesh, the old me and my born again spirit, the new me have differing desires and appetites, and that is the core of the war raging in us. Paul is going to expose this war and give us some great truths in overcoming the old nature that only wants to please itself and thus destroy us. I hope to see you there.

Many women are looking for a man to marry, say they are looking for Mr. Right. And rightly so, because you don’t want Mr. Wrong or even Mr. Maybe. As we progress through Galatians in Paul’s defense of “salvation by Grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone” we find Paul now pointing to Mr. Right: Jesus. When it comes to the salvation of mankind Jesus our Mr. Right came at the right time, He was the right person, He had the right strategy and He brought the right result. So as it pertains to salvation, Jesus was our Mr. Right.

I really admire Paul’s brilliance. And in chapter 3 of Galatians it is on display again. As he battles the Judaizers attempts to infiltrate the Gospel with works of the law, Paul throws out logical and brilliant reasons as he defends “salvation by Grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.” This is something all followers of Christ need to grow in. Can we give reasons for what we believe when asked? Throughout the N.T. the first followers are giving reasons for the hope of the Gospel they believe and follow. I hope you join us as we watch Paul in action again displaying reasons for believing in “salvation by Grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.”

Why Groups? // Belong // September 03, 2023

I thought about some of the things I’ve done alone. I’ve eaten at restaurants alone. I’ve gone to the movies alone. I have visited churches on vacation alone. I have left home alone to study out of town for two and three days. I have no problem doing things alone…but I wouldn’t want to always do things alone. I found that I am human and need to hang out and do things with others. I need the tighter smaller fellowship. As I’ve studied the scriptures I found that the godhead is a fellowship of Father Son and Holy Spirit. And they invite me into their fellowship. Friends, we need smaller tighter fellowship, Jesus even modeled it with His tight knit group of twelve then three. Today we answer the question of “Why Groups?” I hope to see you there.

Taking a vacation is always fun and relaxing. It is a time to refresh. Vacations contain the element of slowing down and letting others serve us. There is nothing wrong with this, in fact there is a lot right about this. But our life is not a continuous vacation, no matter how much we wish it was. Our life, the life of a follower of Christ is that of a servant. Jesus even said that the greatest people who walk among us are those who live a life of serving others. He added that He did not come to be served, but to serve others. I know that the person who lives a life of serving others, knows the inner gratification attached to serving others. Today I want to look at the question of “Why serve?” I hope to see you there.

Continuing What Jesus Began // Acts: To The Ends Of The Earth II // July 02, 2023

We are all tempts in life. Some of us took over a business from our parents. Most of us stepped into a position vacated by a retiree. We are simply carrying on what someone took over from someone else or began. Being a follower of Christ is no different. We began with Acts 1:1 a year ago with Dr. Luke’s statement: “All that Jesus BEGAN to do and TEACH.” Jesus BEGAN it and we are to continue it. When we gave our lives to Christ we stepped into a position to share the gospel vacated by past Christians. The book of ACTS ends has no formal ending unlike other N.T. letters. It is open ended. Could it be because you and I are called to pick up the baton and carry on the spread of the Gospel? Yes! We have all stepped into the position and CONTINUE what Jesus started!!!

Persecution // Acts: To The Ends Of The Earth II // June 11, 2023

As we continue to travel through Acts we find one of the reoccurring themes is persecution. Paul is being continuously persecuted for his faith in the Resurrected Jesus. He would one day write in I Timothy 3:12 “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” He is telling us what to expect so as not to be surprised when it happens. We will be persecuted as a result of living “godly lives.” That is important because some are persecuted for living sinful lives all the while claiming that they are living godly. Now persecution is the idea of being chased after and worn out, and we can feel that way to the point of quitting. But do not despair we as we will find out Sunday, we win!!

The Danger Of Delay // Acts: To The Ends Of The Earth II // June 04, 2023

Some decisions should not be delayed. Especially the decision to follow Christ. As we look into Acts 24 we find Paul still in prison but given the opportunity to speak to the governor Felix and his wife Drusilla about righteousness, self-control and judgment to come. Felix delays his decision to follow Christ and we never read that he gave his life to Christ in follow up meetings with Paul. It is dangerous to delay the decision to follow Christ and today we will see why.

The Unforgiving Servant // Parables // May 07, 2023

One of my favorite parables because none of us can escape this one. We all have a bit of the unforgiving servant in us. Jesus tells the story of a man forgiven of a mountain of debt which he could never pay off in a hundred lifetimes. But here is where it gets interesting, the man once set free, finds someone who is indebted to him for a minuscule amount by comparison and he orders the man into jail until he pays him ever last cent. I think we all do this at times. We’ve been forgiven so much, a mountain of sins and what do we do? We turn around and are unwilling to forgive someone of a few sins. Followers of Christ, we are called to forgive the way Jesus forgave us.

The Unjust Judge // Parables // April 30, 2023

In this parable Jesus tells the story of a widow who needs legal protection from an unjust judge. In that culture at that time she is the person who would rarely if ever get justice and yet she does. But how did she get justice from an unjust judge? She kept coming day after day bugging the judge to get legal protection. She wore him down and he gave in to her requests. Now, this is a parable of the need of answered prayer but we must be careful not to think the judge in the story is what God is like. The parable points out the contrast between God and the unjust judge.

We begin a short series through the Parables in the Gospels. Our first stop will be with the Good Samaritan which is a fascinating interaction between a lawyer and Jesus over what a true neighbor actual is. The lawyer is wanting to know who is his neighbor, which means he wants to know who his neighbor isn’t. In other words, who don’t I have to help or be nice to. And so Jesus sets out on describing what a true neighbor is like. We will all be challenged by Jesus’ description of a neighbor.

Authority Challenged // The Final Act // March 19, 2023

So by now the religious leaders have had enough of Jesus and want to discredit and destroy Him. So what do they do? They challenge Him with a question in front of the crowd on the Temple mount. Bad idea. Jesus turns the tables on them exposing them as the ones with no authority. I get asks from time to time for a recommendation of a good church in a certain city. People ask me this because either they have moved or they know someone in that city that is looking for a good healthy church. Now what they are really asking me is if the Pastor is a good Pastor. It’s a good legitimate question. You want a Good Shepherd. But that conjures up another question: What does Good Shepherd look like. What makes them good? I’m glad you asked that because in Acts 20 Paul, while defining his ministry life, gives us the character qualities of a Good Shepherd. And we are the beneficiaries of what he said.

We come to a moment in time where it seems people are trying to jump on the “Jesus Name” bandwagon. What I mean is, they attempt to verbally use the name of Jesus to cast out a demon. The problem is, they have no relationship with Jesus. Which means that they are not under the authority of Jesus, they have not surrendered their lives to Him for salvation. So when seven brothers attempt to use the name of Jesus to cast out a demon, the demon turns on them and strips and beats them and they take off running for their lives. We will look at this chapter in the early church to see what went wrong and how we can use the power of the Name of Jesus properly.

There is so much talk and demand for justice these last few years, so we’re going to talk about it. Oh not the type the angry mob screams about. (And we should never allow any angry person or group carry out justice) We’re going to talk about eternal justice, judgment day. Paul in Acts 17 says that “God has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man.” And we know that Man is the God Man Jesus. True justice is coming through Jesus. No one gets away with anything. And if you think about it, if there is no ultimate judgment then there is no ultimate Justice.

As we continue in our Acts series we come to chapter 12 with Peter facing a stressful situation, they are going to execute him in the morning. It should cause him major panic. But it doesn’t. It brings about the opposite result; peace. How can he possibly have peace in a peaceless situation? That is what we will attempt to figure out this morning in our message, “How to have peace when I should be panicking.”

Removing The Lids That Limit Us // Acts: The Arrival II // November 20, 2022

One of the bigger roadblocks to growth we face are the lids on our life. What do I mean? Allow me to get a bit personal. I have been studying the Bible for 43 years and in those years many of the lids on my life have been exposed. There are things I learned from my family, from my ethnicity, from politics, from friends and teachers and from Satan dropping thoughts into my mind. But from time to time as I read and study God’s word, God’s word disagrees with things I’ve learned in my past. And that now becomes a lid that limits God’s best for me and others. So I have a decision to make, do I believe God and change my thinking or disregard what God says and continue living in the lid that limits me. We will examine this very thing in Acts chapters 10 and 11 in the life of Peter.

What Ananias is really wondering is, is Saul a fake or real Christian. It’s a good question and in this chapter we see what genuine article looks like.

In Acts chapter eight we see Samaria begin to be evangelized. This is great but it also carries a potential problem we see today, mixing Jesus with our old beliefs. We are seeing more of this today in our culture, but as followers of Christ we have to stay true to the true Jesus. So today we will see how the first followers of Christ stayed true to the true Jesus.

Because anyone who has a great WHY can face any WHAT in life. As a follower of Christ we have many purposes but only one ultimate one and that is, reach the lost for Jesus. I have observed over the years in my life and in the lives of others that Satan can side track us to abandon our calling for a time. But I’ve also observed that Jesus gets us back on course to fulfill our ultimate purpose. Today we will look at Peter as Jesus gives him his life calling of being a fisher of men…the ultimate purpose.

And when he does he doesn’t march off to heal every person in the Roman empire, even though that would be a noble gesture. Instead he turns the focus to the healer, Jesus and the salvation of souls. Have you ever noticed that life has stages of experience? I can go on a Cruise but I have options of no window, a window or even better, a balcony which is the full effect. I can buy a car but I have options of nicer wheels, leather seats and a more powerful engine which is the full effect. Even the carwash I take my truck through gives me options. Now, in our world of options, the greater the experience the greater the cost so sometimes we have to settle for a limited experience. When it comes to everything God has for us we must remember that Jesus already paid the price. We get to, if we choose to, experience the full effect of everything the Holy Spirit has for us. This first message in Acts will take us into the full effect of the Holy Spirit.

Have you noticed how our natural response to situations or people can be so contrary to what God says in His word? As we finish chapter 12 Paul the writer challenges us to live contrary to our gut feelings. Specifically he is challenging us to use our energies to serve others…all others. To do good to people…even when they may not deserve it or have done some not so nice things to us. This is contrary living. This is Jesus living. Therefore it is right living because after all Jesus said, “The greatest among us is the servant of all” and that “He, the Son of man came to serve.”

These are called the Motivational gifts in Romans chapter 12. These gifts when understood help us to see ourselves and others correctly and allow us to serve others within our gift make up. This first message in our new series, “Living Sacrifice” is designed to put on the corrective spiritual lenses to see how to better use our lives in service for the Glory of God.
