She is a gifted facilitator, an experienced public speaker, spiritual coach and director. People are the spice of her life and she comes from a legacy of "equity" for all.

Through her role at Centers for Spiritual Living and involvement with the RAARE Women Collective, she has learned the value of listening and building trust within multicultural settings. We discuss how white women can become safe spaces for authentic discussions about racism and equity, and the necessity of integrating racial equity into our daily lives. We shared a moment of reflection on Kamala Harris's nomination and the growing responsibility of white women to step into spaces of racial equity, even when it means confronting our own fears of making mistakes.

We then focus on the distinction between being an ally, advocate, and operative, and how active engagement in support roles can drive meaningful change. Intersectionality is a concept coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989 to describe how various forms of social subcategories, such as race, gender, and class, intersect to create unique dynamics and effects. When we recognize that individuals can't be defined by a single aspect of their identity, we begin to see the full picture of their lived experiences.

This deeper understanding enables us to address the complex realities of discrimination and oppression. This is particularly true in this political season. The ‘gotcha’ mentality comes from a biopic perspective on humanity - there’s one way, the right way, my way. That has never been helpful for creating safe spaces for people to connect.

I share about intersectionality and civil discourse and how we can have a significant impact living in a racial world.

She explains practical ways through somatic healing or body work for clearing grief in our individual and collective pain. Our topic for today is Raising Children in a Racist World. Meet Tracey Butler-Johnson. Tracey has been drawn to this work for as long as she can remember. We talk about how she was raised in Brooklyn and how she met her husband and how their family navigated interracial marriage, and then how they are raising their child in a very liberal part of DC.

And yet still at the age of 3 their child was exposed to racism. Tracey is known for her TikTok presence and that was where I first stumbled across her. She is direct and unapologetically for racial equity and empathy along the way. I love her presentation; I love her smile; and we agree that white people in America need to acknowledge how deeply embedded white supremacy culture is in the United States and that there are ways to deconstruct that in our families in our homes, in our organizations, our churches, and our workplaces.

And so how do we recognize it? Where do we get support and how do we undo it in our lifetime?

Welcome to One Voice Evolving podcast where our mission is to reclaim joy in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) spaces. Our goal is to dive deeper than the surface and bring on guests who are raw, real, and relatable, shifting the conversation away from the usual presentations to White women.

As a White woman, my understanding of racism has been shallow and sheltered. The privilege of my skin color has opened doors to me that I once believed were universal rights. It wasn't until later in life that I truly saw the barriers faced by those who do not share my complexion. I acknowledge living in a "white bubble" of privilege that allowed me to flirt with change and retreat to my comfort zone at will, a luxury not afforded to my Black and Brown sisters.

With privilege comes responsibility. White women, including myself, have a crucial role in dismantling racism and advocating for fairness in our societies, communities, and creations. I recognize the imperative to break free from generational constraints and face the reality that has always existed. I am now accountable to use my privilege and influence for good.
