Kent E. Dicks is a successful serial entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience providing dynamic and strategic leadership in new and emerging markets. 

While Dicks has a broad range of experience across several business sectors, he has most recently established himself as one of the true thought leaders in the mHealth (mobile health) space. In 2006, Dicks founded MedApps and immersed himself in the world of healthcare technology. He dedicated himself to improving telehealth systems -- which had shown much promise to benefit the chronic care population worldwide -- with patient-centered solutions that could provide relief to an overburdened healthcare system. 

While telehealth demonstrated success in improving patient outcomes, widespread adoption was elusive. The existing technology was expensive and complex – especially for the older patient population, which typically consumes the most healthcare dollars. Ubiquity of cellular technology with increasingly lower costs inspired Dicks to develop more automated and cost-effective remote patient monitoring solutions to help care for Medicare and Medicaid populations.

Dicks was a leading pioneer in the evolving mHealth field, using dedicated M2M cellular “hubs” to connect patient, providers, and electronic health records. His lower-cost mHealth solutions provided the industry with a much-needed alternative to enable a proactive healthcare model. The consistent flow of accurate, real-time data provided with the MedApps solution gave healthcare professionals the ability to better track the conditions of individuals with chronic disease in order to keep them out of the hospital, intervene when necessary, and avoid expensive admissions and readmissions. Dicks implemented a strategy centered around ease of use, allowing healthcare providers to be “clinicians instead of technicians” and focus on the care of the patient rather than the care of the equipment – a strategy that maximized professional resources while keeping costs low and increasing patient compliance. Dicks’ philosophy was disruptive to the large established players in the remote monitoring space. It also was at odds with the growing number of tech companies eager to enter the emerging field. 

Realizing that “one solution does not fit all,” Dicks envisioned a dynamic cloud-based architecture that was completely agnostic to the types of monitoring device, their manufacturers, and the clinical back-end systems the data would be integrated to. His mission was to build out and prove his newly conceived CloudCare Platform. It was a monumental task for a young startup competing in a deeply entrenched healthcare industry. Even though the U.S. faced one of the worst economic times in history, Dicks raised the capital necessary to keep his company competitive in an ecosystem of well-heeled, international corporations – putting innovation and quality first – investing in 17 issued patents and a UL and ISO-certified Quality and Regulatory System. His perseverance proved out the model in numerous chronic care pilots and programs centered around reducing hospital readmissions. 

With the MedApps team, Dicks built a strong track record of performance in realizing his vision and business model for the emerging mHealth field. He was recognized as an industry innovator and thought leader, barnstorming the U.S. and abroad, and advocating patient engagement using innovative “connected health” solutions. As a subject matter expert, Dicks has authored numerous articles, given a vast number of media interviews, and demonstrated the efficacy of his vision for Congress, including providing testimony before the House regarding the utilization of mHealth to improve Veterans Health affairs. Dicks and his MedApps System garnered many awards and accolades over the years, notably recognized with a nomination for the prestigious Davos Technology Pioneer Award, and culminating in an Edison Award for Best New Product in Health, Wellness & Safety.

He is board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Clinical Informatics. He serves as the Program Director for the Clinical Informatics Fellowship at HonorHealth and as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Informatics Fellowship at University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix Fellowship in Informatics.

Prior to becoming the CMIO, he was the Network Patient Safety Officer for HonorHealth, and has previously served as Department Chair of Emergency Medicine as well as Chief of Staff for the Thompson Peak Hospital. In 2017-2019, he completed professional development programs through academic and professional organizations that prepared him for his leadership roles, including Intermountain Health's Advanced Training Program and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Patient Safety Executive training. His additional credentials include EPIC physician builder certification, executive training at Harvard Business School in healthcare delivery, and training in artificial intelligence from MIT.

His areas of interest are process, quality, and outcome improvement as well as improving the patient and provider experience with information technology in healthcare. His expertise has resulted in invited membership on panels and reports with the ECRI Institute and the National Quality Forum. He continues to work on the state level on opioid prescribing, use disorder recognition and treatment, as well as risk reduction methodologies including naloxone distribution from the Emergency Department. He has organized and chaired the Arizona College of Emergency Physicians opioid prescribing summit for the past 9 years.

Dr. Craig is passionate about the use of technology to facilitate the improvement of care and development of a learning health system.

On a personal level, he has been married to his wife Laura for 25 years and is an enlisted Navy nuclear power plant operator veteran. He is an active Ironman Distance Triathlete, having completed his 19th full distance Ironman, and an accomplished Ultrarunner who completed the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning in 2015. In 2021, he completed chemotherapy for non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and is currently in remission.

Labfront enables real-world research, taking the science out of the lab, 10x-ing research workflows while saving time and budgets. Before Labfront, Chris was involved in nonprofit and volunteering projects in Thailand, Ethiopia, and Taiwan, including the building of the first ambulance system in Ethiopia.

Dr. Jake Lancaster is the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation and Chief Medical Officer for the Baptist Medical Group. He also continues to practice as an internist part-time for the Baptist Medical Group (BMG). 

Dr. Lancaster completed his undergraduate degree in physics at the University of Mississippi and Sally McDonald Barksdale Honors College, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He earned his medical degree at the University of Mississippi, where he served as student body president and was inducted into the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. He then went on to complete an internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he simultaneously completed a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the UAB School of Health Related Professions. 

After residency, he pursued a fellowship in the field of Clinical Informatics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and earned an additional Master’s degree in Applied Clinical Informatics from Vanderbilt University. After completing fellowship, he went on to be the Chief Medical Information Officer at West Tennessee Healthcare in Jackson, TN, where he practiced as an outpatient internal medicine physician and hospitalist. 

He is board certified in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine and clinical informatics through the American Board of Preventive Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Informatics Association. He is also a Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association and the author of the book “The Matter of Medicine.”

She is also an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Urban Health and Population Science, the Center for Urban Bioethics, and the Department of Pediatrics at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. Her specialties include the human connection in healthcare, ethics, trauma-informed care, substance misuse, urban health, healthcare professions education, and health equity.

She spent 20 years at the Katz School of Medicine before taking the helm of the Gold Foundation. Her leadership positions there included Founding Director, Center for Urban Bioethics; Chair, Department of Urban Health and Population Science; Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs; and inaugural Senior Associate Dean for the Office of Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. She is a Gold Humanism Honor Society member and was previously recognized as an Honorable Mention for the Gold Foundation’s Pearl Hurwitz Humanism in Healthcare Award.

Dr. Reeves earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Juniata College, graduated from the Sidney Kimmel College of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University, and completed her Pediatric Residency at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She is board certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric hospital medicine and continues to practice as a pediatric hospitalist. She has served in the leadership team as part of the Northeast Group on Student Affairs within the American Association of Medical Colleges.

Dr. Tim O’Connell is a practicing radiologist in Vancouver and cofounded emtelligent in 2016. He has served as vice chair of medical informatics in the University of British Columbia’s Department of Radiology since 2017. Prior to his clinical and entrepreneurial careers, Dr. O’Connell worked as an IT professional for Nortel Networks and Bell, where he was director of engineering for the Bank of Montreal account.

Early in his career, Dr. O’Connell realized that radiologists were often tasked with a volume of work that didn’t afford them the time needed to carefully review and understand each patient's clinical history. Her public sector experience spans innovation, trade, and healthcare policy through roles in the UK Government and US Office of Management and Budget.

Alice holds a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from MIT. Prior to joining Houston Methodist, Dr. Pletcher was the founder of the Centers for Connected Care & Telehealth at Dartmouth- Hitchcock, where she led the health system in the selection and implementation of new strategies utilizing telehealth technology platforms, and developed new clinical products and telemedicine programs across multiple specialties, and in multiple settings. This work includes a national scale telemedicine program which includes more than 60 specialties and six 24/7 hospital service lines, covering 100 hospitals across 10 states, and providing care through 20,000 patient encounters every month. 

As a consultant, Dr. Pletcher has advised health systems, policymakers, and investors about disruptive technologies and new business models that can provide value in serving populations. With over 25 years of healthcare innovation experience, she is frequently sought as a thought leader and invited speaker in areas of telemedicine, mhealth, innovation, clinical quality improvement, provider education and rural program development; and has been the principal investigator on over 15 million dollars of grant and foundational funding to advance these initiatives.
