01 Pay Careful Attention

What worked yesterday won’t work today.

Elders are fathers in the house, and what they do and how they do it will affect the children in their care. In this session, Andrew starts by saying that we all tend to drift into comfort and convenience if we aren’t paying attention, and what worked yesterday won’t work today or tomorrow. He urges the elders to “Pay careful attention to yourselves” (Acts 30:38) first, to check that they are in Him and reflecting Him correctly, and then “to the flock.”

04 Leading by Example

We can only take people where we have been.

In this session, Andrew shares how we can only take people where we have been in the secret place and only give them what we already have. He goes on to explain that there is a measure of grace and influence given to each of us, and if we are faithful with that, God may give us more. He then uses 1 Timothy 4:12-15 to explain all the ways in which we should lead by example.

07 We Will Be Tested

Everything is a test.

In this session, Andrew looks at the various tests we will face at some point on our journey, set up by the Lord to reveal our cracks and shadows. God is a good Father who wants us to come through the trials, but He needs to assess our faithfulness and uncover any selfish motives to make us safe, healthy leaders. Andrew encourages us not to grow weary or to lose faith but to trust that the Lord is able to do immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine.

05 Understanding Authority

The realms of authority given to elders and apostles.

In this session, Andrew explains authority and the care we should take to stay within the limits of the authority God has given to us. He goes on to explain that there are different realms of spiritual authority, using examples to illustrate when apostles and elders of a church carry the highest authority within these realms.
