How can we make our podcast relevant?</p><p>That is all about geography.</p><p>While it may be true that you can help every woman, every where on every continent ... most entrepreneurs do not have the financial war chest to be able to reach every woman, everywhere on every continent.  Coca Cola does.  They have billions to spend.  </p><p>Do you have billions to spend?</p><p>There's an old adage that comes to mind.  And a question to ask of you.</p><p>Would you rather be a small fish in a huge pond?  Or big a big fish in a small pond?</p><p>The chances of you reaching 1,000 loyal fans is much higher in your geographic region than it is to keep casting your net on the billions of people on the internet every single day.</p><p>Now is to say that you don't serve someone outside your geographic region?</p><p>Absolutely not!  If you're podcast focuses on Long Beach, California ... you never know if someone from Myrtle Beach, North Carolina will love your podcast because they have family in Long Beach.  They love to visit Long Beach.  They have a blast every single time they go!</p><p>Again, when you niche down you can further explore those issues that are plaguing your ideal customer avatar.</p><p>Because your avatar might care (a lot!) about the local events that are happening.  Local political issues.  Or re-zoning.  Or the new restaurant that opened up.</p><p>Gary Vaynerchuk said this back in 2015.  That's the first time I heard it.  He said, "You need to be the digital mayor of your town."  He didn't say of your continent.  Or of the world.  He said "Of your town."</p><p>Because I'll be you dollars to donuts that your ICA is located within your geographical area.</p><p>And once you accept this, why not start seeking out speaking opportunities?  Join the local chamber. You have times when the economy is booming, everyone is spending money like crazy.</p><p>These people come out with outlandish programs like "Make $1M in a weekend!"</p><p>And people spend $300 or $500 on the program.</p><p>But winter is coming.</p><p>These people aren't going to be so quick to spend money on outlandish programs that make ridiculous promises.</p><p>So what can we do to prepare ourselves for winter?</p><p>Because 2/3 of businesses are going to collapse.  It's just a given.  No one will believe their promises.  Plus they never had a real business to begin with.  Because their entire model is based on promises they can't deliver on.</p><p>So first off: we need to recognize that when these business go under, there will be orphan customers out there.  These are people who have money, are willing to spend it, but lost their business because they folded.</p><p>So this presents us with an opportunity.</p><p>With winter coming, will you be scared?  Or will you step into your role as a leader and lead these people?</p><p>Now you can't make outlandish promises.  No one will believe you.</p><p>I see other podcast coaches out there, promising that they can get you 5 and 6 figure clients.</p><p>They will disappear before long.  Because most of us don't even have a product that is 5 or 6 figures.  They are just saying that to try and get you spend money on a program that doesn't deliver on the promises.</p><p>But here's a few things to consider.</p><p>Your podcast has value.</p><p>So what can you do with your podcast to generate an extra $500 or $1000 a month? I asked him, "How often do you publish episodes?"  His response was "It depends.  Every 2 to 3 weeks."</p><p>When I pushed him on this issue, he said he doesn't believe people care when episodes drop.  They check their podcast player app, see a new episode has been downloaded, and then they play it.</p><p>Is he right?</p><p>That may be for people who are already subscribed ...</p><p>But what about people who have not yet subscribed?  </p><p>Buzzsprout reported on some data in August 2022.  People on average subscribe to 6 podcasts.  That's it.</p><p>So the question becomes: how can we make sure that our podcast is one of those that people subscribe to?</p><p>When I take a look at my subscribing habits, I always look for consistency.  Is this person producing content on a regular basis?  I personally do not want to invest my time into a podcast and a person who sporadically shows up.  If their episodes are week, that's my expectation.  If it's monthly, that's my expectation.</p><p>Unless the show is super good.  Like Hardcore History.  I love that podcast.  That's the only podcast that I'll forgive them for not being more consistent.</p><p>And it's also personal preference.  The other day I gave a group coaching call.  I said the start time was 5 p.m.  I arrived at 4:50.  And at 5 p.m., we started.  </p><p>People staggered in 5, 10 even 15 minutes late.</p><p>I knew they would.  But just because they were showing up late does not mean I can show up late.  Because I show up for my regulars.  I show up for the people who are committed.  Whether they are ready or not doesn't matter.  I'm ready.  I'm producing content.
