What is Stamped Social?

One way to know what your audience wants is to create a community. While there are free tools like Facebook,  you don't own your community in Facebook. I once was banned from my own Facebook groups for letting them know group coaching was starting in 5 minutes. In the last episode, we mentioned mailerlite is a powerful email list and more affordable than some competitors. But what if you want a free solution?

For me, after using Mailerlite for a while, it dawned on my that I don't need all the marketing tools it provides. My newsletter is more for communicating with my audience. I started using Substack.

The exciting part of Substack is on a normal week, I might have 3-5 new signups, and Substack seems to do a great job of cross-promotion. Your newsletter is also on a web-based version of it. You can turn a chat for your newsletter.

The surprising thing was that I was playing with the premium tool. This enables you to sell access to premium posts in your newsletter.  Without promoting it, I had someone sign up for a yearly account.

In terms of using Substack as a marketing tool, their terms of service, "Substack is not an email marketing platform. We don’t permit publications that are set up with the sole purpose of advertising an external product or service, distributing offers and promotions, or similar activity."

So I think the key phrase that could get you in trouble is the phrase "Sole purpose" of advertising. 

It also has an app to read/listen to posts on your device. When I say listen, you can record and use substack as a free tool for a podcast. For me, I uploaded a version of my summarizing the newsletter topics for that episode.

I've used Otter for transcriptions and they recently changed their pricing and more importantly reduced the amount of time you can upload files to be transcribed. So I began to search for a replacement. I found Scribie.

If you work on your podcast with more than well yourself, they're going to be times when you want to comment on how the show was going, what needs to be edited.
Whether this be with your co-host, or an editor, or both. The problem is there may be different time zones, and all sorts of different things that make it hard. Today, I've got a tool to make it super easy.

Communication Tool
When you are trying to communicate about an episode, specifically, in this case, you either are using a Google Doc, and you're like, hey, at the two-minute mark, somebody said this, or you're doing it in Slack, or whatever sort of Team tool that you have.
I Use NOtetracks

I use Notetracks at the School of podcasting, where my students can say, hey, I would like feedback on an episode. They uploaded there where basically they send me the link, I have them fill out a form. I upload it. And then I can go in. And let's say at the two-and-a-half minute mark, they asked a really good question, I can click there and say leave a comment. This was a really good question that led to a great story.

People Can See Where the Feedback is Tied To
While the students can log in to NoteTracks, I can also export all of my notes with times stamps and they can listen to their episode anywhere and see the time stamps associated with an episode.

Notetracks does have a free trial. And basically what happens is, when you sign up, and their plans start at $9 a month, I'm on the $29 a month because it limits how many projects and a project would be a file. So you might be able to get by with the basic plan and $9 a month just swap out the files. That would be one way of doing it. But they do give you a seven-day free trial. And basically, when you sign up, you get immediate access to all of their tools, so you can really kick the tires on it.

Its very simple search in podcast apps is not great. But search on a website is actually pretty good thanks to our good friends at Google. One of the things that can really make your podcast grow is by writing better headlines. And today, I've got a great tool that I just bought and couldn't wait to share with you.

One of my top pet peeves is when I see somebody put the name of their show. And then they'll actually read out the words, Episode 16. So something like this:

And I cannot stress this enough that the title of your episode is like grandma's fine china, you just don't want to mess with it. It's really, really important and you should take some time to come up with a headline/title that is going to help you get found

I've used other headline resources, but this one not only helps me make better headlines that will catch people's attention, it TEACHES ME how to write better headlines. It's like having an SEO and Copywriting Coach all in one.

It is so easy to use, and I'm finding my headlines weren't bad, but I can make them go from what would be a "C" grade to a B or A easily by just using a few analytical tools and tweaking some words and I'm ready to go.

interviews in studio quality from anywhere. All from your browser." Guests and producers join with one click. All from your Chrome browser on laptop or desktop. They also have an iOs app. They do have some interesting features.

You can have up to 8 people on a session. It records the audio and video separately (in WAV for the audio and in 4K for the video) and uploads the recordings while you are recording (so you do fill up someone's hard drive).

It also has tools to share previously uploaded video and audio, you can use their magic editing tool that, according to their website, "Compose your video in 4 easy steps: Add your media, set your audio and video settings, customize your video, and export. It’s that easy!"

They also have an AI tool that will switch the audio in the video to anyone who is talking (similar to the old days of Google Hangouts RIP).

I'm going to give this a shot on my Ask the Podcast Coach show. If this works well, I may cancel my streamyard subscription. Streamyard IS BETTER for streaming, but I have situations with shows like the Podcast Review Show where Separate audio and video would give me more flexibility.

Their pricing starts at $9/month. The plan I will be using is $19/month.

I noticed in the address bar of Google chrome you now have the ability to make a QR code for whatever website you are currently looking at. So I put these two together. I put my smart link into Google Chrome and got a QR code for my smart link.

I added one more little bit of icing and put my logo over the default dinosaur in the graphic.

I've seen QR codes on the back of a car using sticker from a business like Sticker Mule. Sitting behind them at a stoplight I wasn't sure it would work, but it did.

Realistic Expectations
Keep in mind that 3-5% of your audience will join a premium program.

Fees
Apple will take 30%
Patreon takes 5-12% of your monthly revenue PLUS processing fees PLUS payout fees PLUS conversion fees (according to the Supercast website)
Supercast takes .59 per active user per month.

Clicks and Joining
With Patreon , it takes 10 clicks to sign up. You need to create a Patreon account. While you can turn on a private RSS feed for listeners/members they then have to MANUALLY subscribe to it in whatever app you use to listen to podcast. The alternative is people click to listen on the Patreon website, or in the Patreon app.
Apple makes it easy as long as you want to use Apple podcasts (which 75-80% of the people in Europe on an Android phone won't be able to).

With Supercast your listener clicks on a link and Supercast looks at their phone and suggests apps that are already on their phone (so no need to use a separate program).

Bundles
Apple allows you to make channels, and Supercast allows you to make bundles.

Stats
Supercast allows you to see how many downloads you get per episode, and who is an active listener and who is not. Patreon does not provide any stats on listener activity.

Customer Data
While Patreon and Supercast enable you to see and export customer data, Apple gives you zero access to YOUR CUSTOMER's data.

Supercast and Patreon can be linked using Podpage (see the episode about podpage). Both Supercast and Patreon integrate with Zapier.

I understand that when people say there's a discovery problem, what they're really saying is, I have a discovery problem, people aren't finding my podcast. And so it kind of makes me scratch my head when I hear that because if only there was like some sort of tool that would search the entire internet. Oh, that's right, you may have heard of one. It's called Google.

Today, we have a tool that makes it easier to be found in Google Now, right now, wherever you're at your current website has a ranking. And what you can do is go into this tool, it's called it's got a funny name, mangools. 

Mangools allows you to see where you're currently ranking. Then you can type in your topic and you can see keywords. The key of this is you can see what are the popular keywords, and then it'll say, oh, if you wrote about this particular topic, you would have a good chance of scoring at the top of search engines because of where you currently rank.

So there's a whole analysis tool, they analyze your website, there are tools in there to tracking your backlinks. If you ever have somebody ask you, Hey, can I do some sort of guest posting or they're really looking for is a backlink to their website?

They even have an extension for your browser. So you can go to different websites and kind of do a quick analysis of what that website is doing and how it's ranking and keywords and things like that. They have a 10-day free version, that if you want to kick the tires on this, which is enough time, it's a little over a week to basically see the tools that are available, and see where your website is currently ranking and then see what keywords that you could actually go after.

If you want to then from that point, start to use this on a regular basis. It's not super expensive for an SEO tool. It comes in at $29 a month if you do an annual plan. If you do it month to month, it is quite a bit more expensive. It is $49 a month. So you save 40% by doing an annual plan, but it's a pretty handy tool.

I do like the extension where you can kind of go to different websites. Again, it's called man goals. And it's got a whole suite with one thing in mind and that's helping you rank higher in search engines. And when people talk about discovery problems, well, you can help get discovered by using band ghouls.

While there are other platforms that try to be everything to everybody (kajabi) one of those items is going to be "not so great." When I looked at a Kajabi demo, their community tool looked like a forum from 1995.

Circle does one thing (Creating a Modern Community) and it does it so well. It has been around about a year and is gaining lots of steam as it is listening to its users and giving them what they want.

What they do is it integrates into the platform you already have.  For example, if you have a course you can paste a snippet of code into your course for people to ask questions and comment. That will appear in the course, AND it will be in the community area.

Some homework:
1. Google the phrase "Facebook lawsuits."
2. Go into Facebook and see how many groups you've sign up for and never returned.

While you may have fewer members in Circle, the people who are there WANT To be there. You get a smaller, more engaged, community. With their integration tools (and in some cases single sign-on) it can be seamless.

Today I'm talking about Acuity Scheduling

This is such a powerful tool, the thing I love about it, is you can sync your calendar with pretty much whatever calendar you're using. I use Google Calendar and I love the fact that if I'm in front of somebody, and we set up an appointment, it syncs with the Google Calendar. Then if somebody online goes to schedule an event, they can't double book me because it's all synced together.

You can accept online payments from stripe from square from PayPal.
You can use this for not only scheduling, but you can also have different scheduling types (and forms) so you can use it for coaching calls for clients, and use it for booking guests. If you're a consultant there is no hoping someone pays for an invoice before the session. They pay when they book the session. Consequently, you have much less "no shows."

Another reason there are fewer "No Shows" is the system can remind the person via email or text.

There are also reports so you can see what kind of money you made this month.

But it's not just consulting. You can also offer things like gift certificates, packages, memberships, and group classes.

One of the ways you can make money is you can sell classes or paid webinars.  This is a group coaching for only X amount of people, you can create a class and specify how many people can sign up that way it actually has that scarcity as there are only so many seats available.

You can meet clients anywhere, this actually syncs with zoom, which is great. There are all sorts of integrations that you can do. You can easily share your calendar via Facebook or Instagram or email, whatever you're doing and of course, you can customize everything to match your brand.

I know there are other tools out there that do scheduling. For me, I've been using acuity for probably a decade at this point and I just love it.
