First, we discuss a recent proposal to remove the Ligue de Football Professionnel as the governing body of French football and replace it with a Premier League model. Considering the botched media deals that have financially impacted Ligue 1 clubs and the league's lack of marketing, any change to the current structure would be welcomed.

Next, we discuss the radical idea that Ligue 1 may consider a playoff-style format to crown its champion. The report reveals a four-team playoff that would include a semi-final and final. We discuss whether this option is the right move for Ligue 1, or, if it would be better for the clubs other than PSG to step up and invest more in their squads to create competition.

Finally, we look at the potential return of the Coupe de la Ligue, which was abandoned in 2020. First, we discuss the pre-match atmosphere, which included a lackluster tifo from the Arsenal supporters. We also get into the starting lineup and why we're unlikely to see many changes from Luis Enrique ahead of the second leg.

We get into the match next and discuss the opening goal from Ousmane Dembélé. Then there's the controversy surrounding Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, where Jurrien Timber appeared to make contact and bring him down in a rugby-style tackle in the box. Ultimately, a penalty wasn't given, but should VAR have overturned the decision? Arsenal also had a penalty shout when Mikel Merino went down, but on replay, João Neves clearly got the ball first before any contact was made.

In the second half, Arsenal really tested PSG's defense, and their highly orchestrated set-piece dance led to a goal from Merino. However, VAR ruled Merino offside, and the goal was waived off. We discuss Arsenal's strategy and whether they lost focus on the match while trying too hard to perfect their set-piece strategy.

Late in the match, Gianluigi Donnarumma proved once again why he is an elite goalkeeper. He made several world-class saves to keep the clean sheet. We discuss his performances in the Champions League and whether he will sign an extension to remain at PSG.

PSG was able to stop the flow of goals and would go on to lose the match 3-2, but advance on aggregate 5-4. We discuss the main storylines from the match, including Bradley Barcola starting in place of Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé not wanting the Man of the Match award, and Gianluigi Donnarumma's incredible performance late in the match when PSG needed him most.

Next, we talk about the matchup against Arsenal, which is a rematch from the league phase when PSG lost 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. We discuss the unique challenges Arsenal presents for PSG and whether Luis Enrique can figure out a way to beat Mikel Arteta's Gunners.

We begin with our emotional thoughts on the match. Ousmane Dembélé scored in the first half to put PSG up 1-0 in the match and draw level on aggregate at 1-1. The match went back and forth, with both sides displaying incredible skill. There were diving saves, last-ditch tackles, fantastic dribbling, and curling shots that just missed the target. It was a heavyweight battle between PSG and Liverpool that ultimately went to extra time and then penalties to decide the winner.

Gianluigi Donnarumma, who had an excellent night, stepped up huge for PSG and saved two Liverpool penalties, and Les Parisiens went on to win the shootout 4-1. We discuss whether the PSG goalkeeper earned a contract extension following that performance. We also talk about Désiré Doué, who came on in the second half and was the player in line to score the winning penalty for PSG. We discuss his sensational ability and what it means to score such a big goal at 19 years old.

We break down Liverpool's strategy and how Luis Enrique countered that by being patient and trusting the players that got him to that point. We also look ahead briefly to a potential encounter with Aston Villa and former manager Unai Emery.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Drew to break down the disappointing defeat to Liverpool in the first leg of the Round of 16 tie. The show begins with a discussion of Luis Enrique's starting lineup. Did the manager get it right, or should he have considered making a change?

The atmosphere at the Parc des Princes was special, and PSG used that energy to put Liverpool under pressure early and often. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored a brilliant curling shot for PSG, but Kvara's calf and foot were just offside. We discuss PSG's tactics and the fast start to the match.

Shortly after Kvara's offside goal, Ibrahima Konaté appeared to push Bradley Barcola from behind just before he ran into the Liverpool penalty area. After the VAR check, Konaté did not receive a red card, and play went on. We talk about the decision and whether the officials got it right.

In the second half, PSG continued their dominating performance but simply could not beat Alisson Becker. The Liverpool goalkeeper made several spectacular saves and, in total, kept a clean sheet despite facing 10 total shots on target. As if that wasn't enough, in the 86th minute, Arne Slot took off Mohamed Salah and replaced him with Harvey Elliott, and a minute later, he took Liverpool's only shot on target and scored. We discuss whether one PSG player is to blame for the goal or if it was a collective failure.

We conclude the show by looking ahead to the return leg next Tuesday. Can PSG complete the comeback against the Premier League leaders? Is it better from a mentality standpoint that PSG is down a goal? We share our scoreline and how we think this tie will end.

One big moment in the match occurred in the second half when Marco Asensio appeared to be tackled from behind while going for a cross from Hakimi. Initially, the referee, Glenn Nyberg, awarded PSG the penalty. But, after VAR got involved, Nyberg changed his decision, and the match ended 1-1. We debate whether that was the right decision or if, once again, PSG was on the receiving end of a poor decision.

We discuss the impact of not marketing Ligue 1 in the U.S. and how clubs like A.F.C. Bournemouth and Wrexham A.F.C. have traveled to the U.S. to build a fanbase while Ligue 1 clubs have not.

We agree that beIN Sports is most likely going to be the last-minute suitor for Ligue 1 rights in the U.S., but the LFP seems to be holding out for something better. Whether better means more money or more viewers remains to be seen, but DAZN, HBO Max, and Apple TV could be potential options if beIN Sports does not get the rights.

We conclude the show by discussing Ligue 1 as a content vessel and how it should be easy to sell to distributors worldwide. Ultimately, passionate fans in the U.S. and elsewhere will suffer until the LFP figures out how to get the product on as many televisions, computers, tablets, and mobile devices as possible. The league is falling behind and needs to make drastic moves to first cater to the fans who care about the league the most and then build upon that fanbase to secure the health of the league overall.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Ethan from PSG Fan Club Boise to break down PSG's 2-1 win over Olympique Lyonnais in the Coupe de France final. We also look ahead to what's needed for PSG to take the next step, reflect on Kylian Mbappé's final match, and discuss our transfer wish list.

First, we dive into what we liked in PSG's win over Lyon. Ousmane Dembélé opened the scoring, and Fabian Ruiz doubled the lead in the first half. Surprisingly, both goals came off corners, which is something we haven't seen much this season. Mbappé and Bradley Barcola created plenty of chances, and the full-backs Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes joined the attack and were dangerous all match. Vitinha continued his stellar play, and we wonder if he's better than prime Marco Verratti.

Of course, there were negatives as well. From Fox Sports' lack of promotion leading up to the match to the PSG and Lyon Ultras clashing before kickoff to the poor play from PSG's center-backs off of set pieces, we go into detail about what needs to be fixed going into next season.

PSG closed out the season with a domestic sweep, having won the Trophée des Champions, Coupe de France, and Ligue 1. They also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in Luis Enrique's first season in charge. We discuss the accomplishments and what it will take for PSG to take the next step under Luis Enrique.

There was so much hope and belief that the club could overturn the one-goal loss in the first leg, but it wasn't meant to be. PSG recorded 30 shots, four of which hit the goal post, and failed to capitalize on numerous chances. We discuss whether there was anything Luis Enrique could have done and whether Kylian Mbappé's off-the-pitch drama impacted him in the tie.

We then look forward to how PSG can improve ahead of next season. Mbappé's departure means PSG will have to find attacking options to replace his offensive output of 40 goals per season. There's also a need for a starting midfielder and PSG's defense needs significant strengthening with the knee injury to Lucas Hernández that will keep him out for six or more months.

The show concludes with a discussion about Xavi Simons, who is reportedly not interested in returning to PSG once his loan at RB Leipzig expires. The 21-year-old is under contract with PSG until 2027, and if he's transferred to another club before 2025, PSV Eindhoven will receive a significant portion. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Ethan from PSG Fan Club Boise to discuss PSG's 1-0 loss to Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park. We break down the game's only goal, Luis Enrique's lineup, Kylian Mbappé's performance, and much more.

We begin with the rhetorical question of whether or not PSG realizes they're in the semi-finals of the Champions League and what an incredible opportunity they have ahead of them. The performance against Dortmund left much to be desired, and very few PSG players stood out on the night. We discuss Dortmund's defensive tactics and what may have gone wrong for PSG's goalscorers.

Mbappé is the unquestioned leader for PSG, but against Dortmund, he was only held to three total shots. The Frenchman didn't step up like so many expected him to, and we debate whether Luis Enrique should move him out to the left wing and move Gonçalo Ramos into the striker role. We also discuss other potential changes the manager could make, including replacing Fabian Ruiz with Manuel Ugarte or Kang-In Lee.

Dortmund's goal in the 36th minute by Niclas Füllkrug was a thing of beauty. Nico Schlotterbeck played a long pass over the PSG defense from the Dortmund side of the pitch, and Füllkrug was able to stay onside, control the pass, and finish with power and precision. We discuss the goal in detail, including Ruiz's poor effort in tracking back.

Lucas Hernández was the lone defender who was almost able to block the shot on goal from Füllkrug, but as he did, he tore his ACL and is now out for six-to-seven months. We discuss that heartbreaking news and how Luis Enrique will replace him in the starting lineup.

We then transition to the return leg at the Parc des Princes on May 7. Despite the loss in the first leg, many supporters remain positive. We try to predict what changes Luis Enrique will make both in the starting lineup and tactically. We also talk about the importance of PSG getting an early goal, whether Mbappé could position himself for his first Ballon d'Or by reaching the Champions League final, and we give our final prediction for the return leg.

Next, we dive into the 3-3 draw against Le Havre. A win would have seen PSG clinch its 12 Ligue 1 title in club history, but sloppy defensive play from PSG allowed a determined Le Havre side to score three goals and force Luis Enrique's squad to score two late goals to squeak out a draw. We discuss what we liked in the match, including Gonçalo Ramos' header and assist, and the fact there were no injuries. We also break down what we didn't like in the match, like the forgettable performance from Randal Kolo Muani and the poor defensive effort.

The second half of the show is all about the first leg of PSG's semi-final tie against Dortmund in the Champions League. We discuss Dortmund's recent result, a potential injury to a key player, and what lineup changes Luis Enrique may make for that match. While Ethan believes PSG should be a little on the cautious side and play Manuel Ugarte for extra defensive help in the midfield, I believe PSG should flex their offensive muscle and attack Dortmund on the road and try to put the tie out of reach as quickly as possible.

PSG's attack continues to be disjointed, and we discuss in detail. Without Mbappé's 11 goals in 13 Ligue 1 appearances this season, PSG would be in serious trouble. Ousmane Dembélé has yet to score since arriving from FC Barcelona, Randal Kolo Muani has been inconsistent, and against Reims, I nearly forgot Gonçalo Ramos was on the pitch because he did so little. The defense continues to give supporters heart palpitations. Milan Škriniar has been sneaky good this season, while Marquinhos continues to underperform. We wonder if this could be the last season for Marquinhos at PSG and who could replace him in the starting lineup.

Up first, we talk about the drama leading up to the match between PSG and AC Milan. There was a PSG supporter who was stabbed before kickoff, and the AC Milan Ultras printed "Dollarumma" dollars with the intended purpose of throwing them at PSG's goalkeeper. Should the referee have done more to protect Donnarumma from the abuse? We also discuss the overall discrepancy in foul calls between the two sides, with AC Milan not recording a foul until after an hour of match play.

We also discuss PSG's attack, which failed to record a goal on the night. Instead, it was Milan Škriniar who scored the lone goal for the visitors. Kylian Mbappé was double, if not triple-teamed at times, Ousmane Dembélé continued his goal drought, and Randal Kolo Muani provided very little in front of goal with only one recorded shot in 60 minutes before he was subbed off. Should Luis Enrique brought on Gonçalo Ramos earlier or even started him? Kang-In Lee provided a spark on the bench and made a case for replacing Vitinha in the starting lineup.

Ethan and I share our level of concern for PSG as it comes to advancing out of the group and into the knockout stage and whether the match against Newcastle United F.C. at the end of the month is a must-win.

On this episode of PSG Talking, we recap the scoreless draw against Al-Nassr in Japan before turning our attention to the latest on Mbappé and transfer rumors.

Up first, I go on my opening rant about Mbappé. As things stand, PSG believes Mbappé has already agreed to join Real Madrid next summer on a free transfer. So the club is now entertaining offers for the Frenchman, and they reportedly have a massive one on the table. Al-Hilal has reportedly submitted a bid of €300 million for Mbappé along with wages in the €700 million range. Both would smash current records.

The atmosphere between Mbappé and PSG is contentious, to say the least, but ultimately, it's up to Mbappé whether he stays in the French capital or leaves. If he stays, Mbappé will likely be benched for the season or play very little. If he leaves, for either Al-Hilal, Real Madrid, or another club, PSG would benefit by way of a transfer fee and getting rid of a massive distraction in the dressing room. We'll see how this one plays out.

The show continues with an interview with PSG Hub. We begin with a discussion about PSG's preseason match against Al-Nassr. PSG Hub shares how he saw the match and which players stood out, including Cher Ndour, Achraf Hakimi, and Noha Lemina.

We then turn our attention back to Mbappé, and PSG Hub shares his thoughts on the latest developments regarding the Parisian superstar. I asked him about the legalities of benching Mbappé for a season and whether PSG could recall Xavi Simons from loan at RB Leipzig should Mbappé leave.

PSG Hub also shares the latest on Harry Kane. We begin with our surprises of the tournament so far. Several notable nations, such as Belgium, Germany, Mexico, and Uruguay crashed out of the group stage while Achraf Hakimi's Morocco managed to top Group F and advance to the knockout stage.

Defending champions, France, entered the tournament with injuries to key players but thus far hasn't let that slow them down. Kylian Mbappé has been the player of the tournament so far and Olivier Giroud became France's all-time leading scorer. Could a date with England prove to be too difficult or can Mbappé lead his nation past a squad full of Premier League stars?

Unfortunately, the tournament hasn't been without injuries to PSG players. Nuno Mendes went down for Portugal and Neymar Jr. injured his ankle in Brazil's first match against Serbia. With news that Neymar could play in the Round of 16, we question whether he's fully healthy or if he's risking further injury by coming back too soon.

The show concludes with some transfer speculation. We discuss one player in particular who has caught our eye at the tournament and would be a good fit at PSG and debate whether Cristiano Ronaldo and Adrien Rabiot should be transfer targets in the near future.

Before getting into the more salacious news, we kick things off with a discussion of PSG's 1-1 draw against SL Benfica on matchday four. It was the second draw against Benfica for PSG in the span of a week and questions are starting to be asked of the defense and Gianluigi Donnarumma who appears to be incapable of playing the ball out from the back.

The conversation then turns to Le Classique where PSG will face their rivals without a full squad. Marseille is within striking distance of PSG in the table and will look to embarrass the capital club in the French capital. For PSG, it's a chance to silence some of their critics and take control of the Ligue 1 title chase. Winning cures all and PSG needs a dominating performance in front of what will be a raucous crowd at the Parc des Princes.

Finally, it's the moment you've all been waiting for. Our PSG experts jump head-first into the Mbappé drama. Essentially, hours before PSG's match against Benfica, several outlets across Europe (The Guardian) reported that Mbappé felt betrayed by PSG's leadership and that the club sold him promises that weren't kept. To make matters worse, the reports go on to claim that Mbappé wants to be sold as early as January.

If the reports are true, should PSG sell Mbappé as soon as possible to the highest bidder? Or, will PSG do what they did towards the end of Mbappé's last contract and refuse to sell him if an offer comes in? Is the drama worth what Mbappé brings to the team on the pitch? Also, what promises did PSG make that Mbappé feels they didn't deliver?

We don't have all the answers and the situation will certainly make for a very interesting season that is only made more complicated by a mid-season FIFA World Cup.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Marc Damon to dissect PSG's summer transfer window and preview the upcoming UEFA Champions League group stage, which kicks off next week against Juventus FC.

We begin with the transfer window where PSG signed several players to strengthen the midfield especially, but also the overall depth of the squad. We also discuss the players who left the club and debate why Leonardo, PSG's former sporting director, was unable—or unwilling—to offload players like Julian Draxler and Layvin Kurzawa.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Marc Damon during PSG's Ligue 1 match against Lille OSC. We spend the entire first half discussing Penaltygate 2.0 and PSG's recent performances on the pitch. We also stop periodically to admire the four goals scored in the opening 45 minutes as well.

First, we tackle the drama. Essentially, it boils down to this. Kylian Mbappé wants to be the first choice when it comes to taking penalties at PSG. Unfortunately, the Frenchman might be the third or fourth best penalty taker at the club. Neymar Jr. is clearly better at converting those chances, but following his decision to sign a new contract at PSG, Mbappé does have a more commanding voice regarding the sporting project. We discuss whether Mbappé has a clause in his contract that stipulates he takes all penalties, whether the situation has been overblown, and if Neymar is at fault for taking a penalty against Montpellier after Mbappé missed his chance.

We then take a break from the penalty drama and focus on all the good happening on the pitch. Through the first three Ligue 1 matches, the reigning champions have outscored their opponents 17-3. How has Christophe Galtier, aka GOAT-ier, unlocked the potential of this team? Is it Sergio Ramos finally being healthy? The move to a back three? The addition of Vitinha? PSG's world-class full-backs? Ultimately, PSG's start to the season is an indictment on Mauricio Pochettino who fooled people into thinking Lionel Messi was washed up.

The show begins with a quick recap of the 1-0 win over Rennes. Kylian Mbappé's stoppage-time winner secured the three points, but how worried should fans be that the last tune-up for Real Madrid was less than inspiring?

Around the 17-minute mark, we transition to the upcoming match against Real Madrid in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. We address Neymar Jr.'s availability and whether or not PSG should play him in this match or keep him on the bench as he's just getting back from injury.

We also discuss Madrid's most potent attacker, Karim Benzema, and the problems he will cause PSG's defense. In the midfield, PSG will be overpowered there as well. Regardless of the lineup and who's available, we both agree that PSG supporters should remain positive and get behind this team. We may question Pochettino's tactics and the constant injuries at times, but now is not the time for negativity. PSG can absolutely beat Real Madrid over the two legs and advance to the next round.

Speaking of supporters voicing their opinion and frustration, a PSG Ultra group (Collectif Ultras Paris) issued a statement that absolutely skewered the club and the executives running it. Their complaints range from the team wearing the recently released fourth kit at home to not getting rid of the players within the squad who offer very little on the pitch but collect hefty wages. Guillaume does his best to explain the criticism and why their timing couldn't be worse.

On this episode of PSG Talking, Tyrone Taylor hosts and he's joined by fellow contributors, Jon Olangi and James Carter.

The show begins with a recap of PSG's underwhelming January transfer window where the problem appears to be two-fold. First, why was Leonardo, PSG's sporting director, unable to get certain deals over the line, like Tanguy Ndombele who clearly wanted to be in the French capital but ended up at Olympique Lyonnais instead? The second issue when it comes to transfers is Leonardo's inability to sell players who are doing very little other than training and collecting their wages.

The conversation then turns a bit dark with some realities that PSG supporters may have to come to grips with. First, Ty shares his hot take on whether PSG should have signed Messi at all and that he creates more problems than he solves. All too often this season, the legend has gone missing during games in a league he should absolutely be dominating.

Then, Ty shares how bad things could get for PSG if they lose to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, and then Kylian Mbappé decides to join them next summer on a free transfer. In retrospect, should PSG have accepted their offer before the season started? And, is the PSG project approaching the point where a complete reset is needed?

To wrap up the podcast, the panel discusses the loss to OGC Nice in the Coupe de France. The match went to penalty kicks and with PSG needing to convert to stay alive, 18-year-old Xavi Simons stepped up but it was Marcin Bułka (on loan from PSG) who made the save for Nice to secure the win. After the match, Mauricio Pochettino's comments about not selecting Simons to take the penalty left many PSG fans frustrated because it shows the disfunction between the players and the manager.

On the final episode of PSG Talking in 2021, I'm joined by French football expert and CBS Sports Golazo correspondent, Jonathan Johnson, to discuss the first half of PSG's season, Kylian Mbappé's future, Mauricio Pochettino difficulties, and more!

To kick off the show, I bluntly ask Johnson who is to blame for PSG's lackluster first half of the season? Is it the manager's inability to get the most out of one of the best squads in Europe? Is it the players who appear disinterested the majority of the time? Or, is it the fault of the sporting director, Leonardo, who put the whole thing together?

Next, I ask JJ about Pochettino's future and whether or not Zinedine Zidane could replace him in the French capital in 2022. One issue that is brought up when discussing Zidane potentially managing PSG is his Marseille roots. Johnson explains the rivalry between the two cities and gives his thoughts on whether it might keep him from taking the job at the Parc des Princes.

Just recently, Mbappé gave an interview to CNN after being crowned the Best Men's Player of the Year at the Glove Soccer Awards 2021. In that interview, the PSG superstar was asked about playing with Lionel Messi, his desire to win everything with PSG, and the rumors linking him with a move to Real Madrid. I ask Johnson what his biggest takeaway from the interview was.

To wrap up the show, we talk Champions League and discuss what it might take to defeat Real Madrid in the Round of 16 and whether that might convince Mbappé to stick around in Paris for another couple of years.

After the second draw, PSG drew Real Madrid, the club Kylian Mbappé is rumored to be heading next summer.

Next, we go around the horn and give our prediction for the tie against Real Madrid. Will the removal of the away goals rule hurt PSG? Is Real Madrid peaking as a team too early? Can Neymar Jr. and Sergio Ramos return from injury to propel PSG to victory despite a lackluster midfield? Finally, how will Mbappé handle his contract situation leading up to the highly-anticipated matchup?

Sure, you have a star-studded squad and endless amounts of cash to sign more players, but between injuries, coaching drama, and unrealistic expectations, the club is constantly making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Guillaume Delaporte to discuss PSG's 3-1 win over AS Saint-Étienne, Mauricio Pochettino's future at the club, injuries, and the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

Up first, we break down the win over Saint-Étienne at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. The offense looked better, but the defense was beaten once again by a diagonal pass into the box to wide-open attackers. Sergio Ramos did start and despite the goal given up by PSG, we were impressed overall with his performance.

During the match against ASSE, Neymar Jr. went down with another ankle injury and had to be carried off the pitch. The extent of his injury hasn't been released by the club yet, but we question whether he should have been on the pitch in the 88th minute with PSG in full command of the match.

Speaking of injuries, we also discuss Marco Verratti's injury history and whether PSG needs to sign a midfielder in January if they can't rely on their world-class maestro.

Next, we discuss Mauricio Pochettino and whether PSG will sack him for Zinedine Zidane. With so many superstar players in Paris, it would make sense to bring in a high-profile manager who has the resume to command the respect of the dressing room.

Finally, we wrap up the show by talking about the Champions League and who we want to see PSG play in the Round of 16.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Guillaume Delaporte and Ty Taylor to discuss the fallout of Kylian Mbappé's interviews with RMC Sport and L'Equipe. There's also the interview Mbappé's mother gave to Le Parisien that seemed to contradict some of what the PSG star said.

Up first, we dive into the comments from Mbappé, which are nicely summarized by Sporting News. We learned that the player did ask to leave PSG and that the only club he has eyes for is Real Madrid. Guillaume and Ty give their thoughts on the situation and hypothesize how Mbappé's comments might have been received by Nasser Al-Khelaifi, PSG's president, and Leonardo, PSG's sporting director.

The Mbappé contract saga has been lingering for at least a year, if not longer, and his comments cleared up a lot of confusion supporters have regarding timing and what has really been offered to him. He also confirmed he said some not-so-nice things about Neymar Jr., which we also discuss. Looking ahead though, the footballing world is still unsure of what Mbappé will do, and his mother only complicated things late last week.

In an interview with Le Parisien, Fayza Lamari told the publication (via ESPN) that "we are talking right now with PSG and all is well. I spoke last night with Leonardo. Will we reach a solution? One thing is clear. [Mbappé] is going to give everything until the end to win the UEFA Champions League."

As we discuss on the show, Mbappé's decision will likely come down to PSG's performance this season and also Real Madrid's. If the France international clicks with Neymar and Lionel Messi and PSG win the Champions League, he may extend for another two years. If the super team implodes and Real Madrid looks like the better project, Mbappé will likely bolt on a free transfer next summer.

We conclude the Mbappé segment by putting a percentage on whether he will sign an extension with PSG and whether the supporters will boo him at the Parc des Princes.

Getting away from the Mbappé drama for a second, there was some monumental news in the world of football. Newcastle United FC has new owners! Much like PSG with Qatar Sports Investments, Newcastle will be majority-owned by an investment fund (Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, or PIF). How will this change the landscape of football and should PSG be worried about competition from Newcastle in the transfer market?

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by James Teague to discuss Mbappé's interview with RMC Sport and L'Equipe in which he confirms he did ask to leave PSG and so much more.

Up first, James and I give our initial reaction to the interview and our take on the revelation that Mbappé asked to leave for Real Madrid at the end of July. Why did he wait until there was a month left in the transfer window and why did he choose now to do an interview? Should PSG have sold Mbappé last summer when there was no progress on his contract extension?

The conversation continues with us discussing whether Mbappé is using the media to change the narrative around his contract situation. Having already been jeered at the Parc des Princes this season by PSG fans, Mbappé appears desperate to come across as he tried everything to help his hometown club even as he lines up a move to Madrid.

Regarding the interview with L'Equipe, Mbappé continued to burn bridges at PSG. He admitted to calling Neymar Jr. a "tramp" for not passing him the ball. He also expressed concern over comments made by club president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who said that he wouldn't let Mbappé leave on a free transfer. Overall, he painted the picture that PSG is a prison and showed other potential transfer targets that if they sign a long-term contract with the capital club, they better be prepared to see out the entire deal.

In typical Mbappé fashion, he left the door open ever so slightly for potentially remaining at PSG—even though we all know that's a lie but again, Mbappé doesn't want to tarnish his image. "If I was told that [Lionel] Messi was going to play at PSG, I wouldn't have believed it," Mbappé told L'Equipe. "So you never know what's going to happen."

So, what does this all mean? We conclude the show by debating whether or not Mbappé could be sent to Real Madrid in January when the transfer window opens, or if PSG would send him to the reserves since he can't control his emotions when a teammate doesn't pass him the ball when he feels they should.

One thing we know for sure is, PSG didn't sanction these interviews. Mbappé went rogue and created drama at a time when it really isn't needed. Just last week, PSG defeated Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League, and instead of talking about that or what Mauricio Pochettino needs to do to maximize the squad's potential, we're talking about Mbappé drama.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by James Ridge from the PSG Unrestricted podcast to discuss PSG's 2-0 win over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League. If you're a PSG supporter, you know it's difficult to find insightful commentary, in English, about PSG, so make sure to give them a follow and subscribe to their podcast.

We begin this episode with James sharing his overall thoughts on the win that wasn't as convincing as the scoreline might indicate. PSG was put under pressure by City for most of the night, but as James states, it was a real statement of intent for what is to come throughout the rest of the season.

Next, we highlight the midfield trio of Idrissa Gueye, Ander Herrera, and Marco Verratti. They were instrumental in the performance and without their defensive determination, City could have gone on to win this match. Gueye stood out especially with a goal in the eighth minute, but later in the first half, he was on the receiving end of a reckless challenge from Kevin De Bruyne. The City star only received a yellow card for the tackle but we discuss whether he should have been sent off immediately.

Moving on from the midfield, we address the performance of PSG's three superstars: Mbappé, Messi, and Neymar. While Messi did score his first goal since arriving from FC Barcelona, the performance from MNM didn't live up to expectations. What changes does Mauricio Pochettino need to make to unlock their potential?

Later in the show, we praise PSG's defense, which stood strong against City's waves of attacks, and debate whether or not Gianluigi Donnarumma has won the starting goalkeeper role over Keylor Navas.

I also get Kapenen's thoughts on PSG's 4-2 victory over RC Strasbourg Alsace and the presentation of PSG's five summer transfers.

Up first, we break down PSG's latest match against Strasbourg at the Parc des Princes. Mauricio Pochettino's squad went up 3-0 in under 30 minutes, but the visitors scored two quick goals to open the second half. Is this a case of PSG's top players being unavailable, or, does the manager need to change formation to ensure the defense doesn't leak goals?

One of the main talking points in the match against Strasbourg was when some PSG supporters whistled and jeered Kylian Mbappé when his name was announced as a starter. Obviously, his contract situation isn't endearing him to the fans, especially the Ultras, but with a goal and an assist, he did silence his critics for the time being.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by long-time contributor, Guillaume Delaporte, and the two of us had a chat on Sunday after the final whistle of PSG's 1-0 loss to Lille OSC in the Trophée des Champions.

We begin the show by talking about that defeat to Lille who continues to have PSG's number after beating them to the Ligue 1 title last season. While PSG's squad was missing several regular starters, there were a few who put in a good shift, including newcomers Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Next, Guillaume and I debate whether PSG should start Keylor Navas in the most important matches this season, or make the switch to Gianluigi Donnarumma. Navas is a fan favorite and a leader in the dressing room. His accolades speak for themselves but he does turn 35 in December and you have to ask if his best days are behind him. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old Donnarumma is coming off a Player of the Tournament performance with Italy in the 2020 UEFA European Championship. It's very possible PSG has the best goalkeeper in the world in Donnarumma and will let him watch from the bench the majority of the season.

Following our Lille talk, we switch gears to break down the situation regarding Kylian Mbappé. Guillaume and I both feel he will move to Real Madrid at some point, either this summer or next, but the lack of communication from Mbappé's camp is deafening. Could signing Paul Pogba be the move to convince PSG's superstar to stick around for a few more seasons?

After an impressive run in the tournament, defeating FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich in the knockout stage, PSG's fizzled out like a defective firecracker against the Premier League leaders. We discuss what happened and perhaps more importantly, who is to blame.

In the second leg at the Etihad Stadium, Mauro Icardi was called upon to start alongside Neymar Jr. and Angel Di Maria, but the former Inter Milan striker struggled mightily and was subbed off shortly after half-time in favor of Moise Kean. Is Icardi such a poor fit that he should be sold this summer or can PSG build around him?

Kylian Mbappé was left on the bench and didn't play a second in the second leg. Should Mauricio Pochettino have started him to try and get an early goal or was he right to rest his injured superstar?

We also discuss Di Maria's sending off in the 69th minute and the resulting comments from CBS commentator Jim Beglin who used the phrase "Latino temperament" to describe the Argentina international's questionable decision-making.

We wrap up the show by grading Pochettino's performance against City, sharing who we want to win the Champions League final, and whether this season should be defined as a success if they come from behind to win Ligue 1.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I’m joined by Matt Gooding and Guillaume Delaporte to break down PSG’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City in the semi-final of the Champions League.

The match was a tale of two halves, but we try to start with the positives. In the first 45 minutes, PSG was able to score a goal through a Marquinhos header and Angel Di Maria skipped around defenders with ease. Truth be told, PSG should have probably scored two goals as Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé both had excellent opportunities, but they were chances that would go unfulfilled.

It doesn’t take us long to get to the negatives of this match for PSG. In the entire second half, PSG struggled to move the ball out of their own end and City’s pressing created chance after chance.

Even with PSG causing their own problems, City still couldn’t score. It took an uncharacteristic mistake from Keylor Navas on a Kevin De Bruyne cross and one of the worst walls of all time on a Riyad Mahrez free-kick to push City into the lead. Was it Pep Guardiola’s tactics or was this simply a case of PSG giving the game away?

We also talk about Idrissa Gueye’s ridiculous challenge that led to a red card, that mistake from Navas that led to City’s first goal, whether Neymar should have been awarded a penalty in the first half, and look ahead to the return leg at the Etihad Stadium.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by James Teague, JC, and Carl-Oscar Källström (albeit a little late), to break down PSG's 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes that was ultimately just enough to see Les Parisiens through to the next round via the away goal rule.

Up first, I ask the panel if the best team advanced. So much was made of Bayern's performance in the first leg and how statistically, they outplayed PSG, but at the end of the day, it was Mauricio Pochettino's squad that scored the goals needed while the Germans wasted chance after chance.

The opening 45 minutes for PSG was especially thrilling. Neymar Jr. was sensational and reminded everyone why he's considered one of the best. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to find the back of the net and instead hit the post and crossbar while attempting to score. Kylian Mbappé was at his best as well, but he was called offside numerous times as he attempted to exploit Bayern's high defensive line once again. I ask the panel what they thought of PSG's superstars and whether this was their best performance for PSG to date.

While Neymar and Mbappé get all of the headlines, we give some love to PSG's defensive unit who held on in the waning minutes under intense pressure from Bayern. Idrissa Gueye, Presnel Kimpembe, Colin Dagba, Danilo Pereira, and Keylor Navas were outstanding on the night and I ask the guys just how they managed to only allow one goal.

Next, we discuss Pochettino and what he did tactically to frustrate Bayern Munich. Was his decision to not play Marco Verratti and Alessandro Florenzi the right one? I also ask the guys whether or not they believe if former manager, Thomas Tuchel, would have been able to advance past Bayern.

After the match, many pundits had to give PSG credit for their accomplishments this Champions League season, but one, in particular, felt like he needed to take a shot at the club, its best players, and the French league. Jamie Carragher, who is a former Liverpool FC player and current pundit for CBS Sports, tried to make the point that Neymar and Mbappé have no business playing for PSG because of the perceived weakness of Ligue 1. His argument, as I understand it, is that those players are only in Paris for the money and he even goes as far as to say PSG is not a big club. You can watch a clip of the comments below and you know we go in on Mr. Carragher for his foolish comments.

To wrap up the show, we look ahead to the semi-final tie against Manchester City and discuss which players in their squad PSG may have trouble with over two games.

Statistically, Bayern dominated PSG everywhere except for goals scored, and the reason why could be blamed on their arrogance in thinking they could get away with a high defensive line like they did in last season's Champions League final. This time, Kylian Mbappé was able to exploit the high line to the tune of two goals. Will Hans-Dieter Flick set up his team the same way in the return leg knowing he needs goals to advance to the next round or can PSG expect a tactical change?

After the match, much of the conversation centered around who wasn't on the pitch for Bayern. Robert Lewandowski was out injured and many speculated that if he were fit, he would have finished several of Bayern's scoring opportunities. However, PSG was without Marco Verratti, Leandro Paredes, and was down to their third-string full-backs. Should Mauricio Pochettino and PSG get more credit for this result considering who they were without?

Towards the end of the show, we switch gears slightly and discuss a recent New York Times article in which the author writes about the plethora of talent in the Paris region and PSG's inability to bring those players through their academy and into the starting lineup. Could PSG's new training facility make the difference and help the club keep the best players in the French capital?

We close the show by discussing other results around the Champions League including whether Borussia Dortmund can pull off the upset over Manchester City.

On the latest episode of PSG Talking, I'm thrilled to be joined by James and Carl-Oscar, two contributors we haven't had on the show in a while but are passionate PSG supporters who know their stuff.

We begin with our overall thoughts on a match that most supporters would call disappointing. Sure, PSG drew and advanced to the next round over their European rivals, but Barcelona's dominating performance definitely puts manager, Mauricio Pochettino, under the microscope (especially after the decision to start Julian Draxler).

Miraculously, PSG did score first via a Kylian Mbappé penalty in the first half and we debate whether the penalty should have been given at all after incidental contact on Mauro Icardi.

Speaking of penalties, the match turned on its head right before halftime when Layvin Kurzawa conceded a penalty. Lionel Messi, coming off a rocket shot to tie the game, stepped up to take the penalty that was ultimately saved by Keylor Navas.

That effort alone would have made Navas the Man of the Match but the Costa Rica international made one spectacular save after another on the night and he showed why PSG moved on from players like Alphonse Areola and Kevin Trapp.

In the second half, Pochettino used all of his substitutions, including taking off the struggling Kurzawa for Abdou Diallo. We discuss the manager's decisions, Diallo's surprisingly excellent performance, and how Angel Di Maria helped PSG close out the game.

We wrap up the show by discussing the team's we hope PSG draws in the quarter-finals, whether Messi will come to PSG in the summer, and TV shows/movies we're watching at the moment. On Wednesday, December 23, I recorded a PSG Talking podcast with Guillaume and James and then a 1970 podcast with Marc during Paris Saint-Germain's 4-0 win over RC Strasbourg. We talked about Thomas Tuchel quite a bit but little did we know that he would be sacked the following day.

For easy listening, I've combined the two podcasts into one and you get to hear us analyze the job that Tuchel has done at PSG and which PSG Talk contributors wanted him gone and others who may be disappointed to see him leave the French capital.

We also discuss PSG's poor results against Lille OSC and Olympique Lyonnais, two clubs who are currently ahead of Les Parisiens in the Ligue 1 table. Contributing to those disappointing performances are injuries. From Presnel Kimpembe to Neymar Jr., many of PSG's top players are out of action and for some, it's a race against time to get them fit ahead of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against FC Barcelona.

It wouldn't be a holiday episode without asking the guys what gift they would give PSG this year and who deserves a lump of coal (don't worry, Leonardo, I've made sure you won't receive any coal this year!).

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Ty and James and we share our reaction to the Champions League draw that pits PSG and Barcelona against each other in the competition for the first time since 2017. Which team should be considered the favorite?

The first match between the two sides is slated for February 16, so there's plenty that can change for both teams between now and then, but one major talking point is the health of Neymar Jr. The former Barcelona man went down with an ankle injury against Olympique Lyonnais last weekend and while he should be back in time for the Round of 16, will he have enough preparation ahead of the tie?

The upcoming January transfer window will be an opportunity for PSG to strengthen, but what positions should the club look to upgrade? Who is available? Could PSG pull off a surprise transfer for Stade Rennais midfielder Eduardo Camavinga?

It's still a bit too early to make a prediction for the PSG match, but I ask the guys what other matchups in the Round of 16 they're excited to watch.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by French football journalist Jonathan Johnson who recently joined CBS Sports to cover the UEFA Champions League and contributes to the outstanding ¡Qué Golazo! podcast where PSG is a frequent topic.

The episode begins with a discussion about Johnson's recent article on injuries at PSG, the most devastating being Neymar Jr.'s muscle injury suffered against Istanbul Başakşehir. The injury will keep the PSG superstar out for the next three games and if it were up to Thomas Tuchel, he wouldn't play for Brazil during the upcoming international break either. There is already bad blood between PSG/Tuchel and Brazil from previous injuries Neymar has sustained and it will be interesting to see how this situation plays out.

Up next, we discuss Tuchel's situation and whether or not he will make it through an entire season without being sacked. The offense has sputtered and while there have been quite a few injuries, there appears to be a malaise over the squad and he hasn't proven to be able to light a spark that is so desperately needed. Could Thiago Motta return to the Parc des Princes and solve PSG's issues?

I also asked Johnson for his ideal starting lineup if injuries weren't an issue. Does he go with Marquinhos in midfield or center-back? Kean or Icardi? Speaking of Kean, Johnson offers some clarity to his loan deal from Everton FC.

The show begins with a conversation about PSG's frustrating 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the first match of the Champions League group stage. The squad looked tired and devoid of ideas offensively even with Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr. on the pitch together. We discuss whether the blame rests on Thomas Tuchel's shoulders and whether his days could be numbered as manager.

PSG rebounded from that defeat to United with a 4-0 win over Dijon FCO—the last place team in Ligue 1. Tuchel was forced to rotate his squad due to injuries, which included starting Moise Kean who scored his first two goals in a PSG kit. The 20-year-old has loads of potential and this performance could lead to him taking minutes away from some of the usual starters.

We then discuss Wednesday match against Istanbul Başakşehir where anything other than a win could lead to Tuchel getting sacked and the very real possibility that PSG may not qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League. We go around the panel and get score predictions for this highly-anticipated match.

The show concludes with a discussion about a surprising statistic. According to journalist Robin Bairner, since the start of the Qatar Sports Investments era (2011-current), PSG has conceded 18 penalties in the Champions League and only been awarded 7. Is this a case of bad defending or is there a conspiracy against the French giants?

Not only were several PSG players sent off, but Neymar Jr. claimed he was racially abused by a Marseille player. We discuss what should happen to Álvaro González even if it's not proven with a video that he did abuse Neymar.

New signing, Alessandro Florenzi, made his debut against OM and he was one of the rare bright spots in that match. We discuss his performance and whether or not PSG needs to sign a left-back with Juan Bernat going down with a serious knee injury.

Speaking of changes, one move some fans would like to see is a new coach. Thomas Tuchel did get PSG to the Champions League final but with one goal scored in the opening three matches, serious questions are being asked of the former Borussia Dortmund boss.

On the latest episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by James Teague and Eduardo Razo for a reactionary show recorded just a few hours after Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's game-winning goal in stoppage time. And before you all send me hate mail about the audio quality, I am without my fancy mic as I'm in the middle of a move and my stuff is probably somewhere in the middle of Wyoming.

We start the show by talking about where we watched the match and how stressful the final minutes were. We talk about Thomas Tuchel's lineup and whether or not he got the tactics right. The story of the first 45 minutes was Neymar Jr., who was brilliant in every way possible except when it came to putting his shots on target.

Neymar's misses were highlighted on social media as PSG's detractors lined up and salivated at the prospect of the most hated footballer on the planet bowing out of the Champions League to a modest club like Atalanta. We discuss the media's coverage of PSG and whether or not they will ever embrace this team.

Once PSG went down a goal in the first half, some doubt started to creep in but once Kylian Mbappé entered the game in the 60th minute, things took a drastic change. We discuss his influence on the game despite playing with an injured ankle and the goal from Marquinhos that leveled the score at 1-1 at the 90-minute mark.

We wrap up the show by sharing our reaction to Choupo-Moting's incredible goal in stoppage time and the fact that he will now go down in PSG history for this goal and not that famous miss he had last season.
