Not only a renowned adventurer, but one of the world's preeminent polar explorers and an internationally recognized leader who is dedicated to inspiring women and girls around the world to unleash the power of their dreams. Through her various roles as an explorer, educator, sought-after speaker and philanthropist, Ann believes that by sharing stories related to her dreams of outdoor adventure, she can help inspire a global audience to pursue their individual dreams.

Ann's teamwork and leadership skills have undergone severe tests during her polar expeditions and provided her with opportunities to shatter female stereotypes. The tenacity and courage that define her character have earned Ann worldwide recognition as one of today's most influential role models for women and girls. She has been named among Glamour magazine's "Women of the Year" (2001); featured in the book Remarkable Women of the Twentieth Century (1998); inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame (1995); named Ms. magazine's "Woman of the Year" (1987); and honored with numerous other awards for her accomplishments.

Ann's passion for exploring our natural world is matched by her enthusiasm for teaching children. After earning a bachelor of science degree in physical education from the University of Oregon, Ann taught physical and special education in Minneapolis and Saint Paul and coached various high school sports. Ann founded the Ann Bancroft Foundation (ABF) in 1991 to support the educational mission of the historic all-women's Antarctic polar expedition in 1993.

On this episode we talk about discovering passion and purpose.

Lisseth is a Registered Nurse (RN) and has been a nurse for over 10 years with most of her career working in emergency departments and Level I trauma centers. In recent years she has also worked in a children's hospital working in vascular access, and notably, in the past year and a half, Lisseth had worked in Queens, NY working at the well known Level I trauma Center - Elmhurst - standing strong and in unity alongside other healthcare heroes on the frontlines of the pandemic. Her current full time role is within the ER unit at Northern Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis. Her list of personal hobbies and busy motherhood schedule impressed us all- especially given her newest venture to start a preventative wellness company servicing hydration IVs to patients in-home. A strong leader in her own right, this episode offers inspiration and proof that there are heroes (many undetectable by glance) still working every day to keep us safe.

Sharing from her first-hand experience, having been on the 'inside', Lisseth offers heartbreaking stories as well as some lighthearted experiences that happened amidst recent medical hardships. With such heart and conviction, Lisseth also speaks to the importance of bringing "human" back into medicine.

"Human interaction is such a huge, huge thing"..."Knowing you're not alone"..."that kindness does so much [for a patient]." - Lisseth DeGracia, RN

Lisseth has, and still is, a soldier in the midst of a number of crises both directly and indirectly related to the pandemic.

"On top of the COVID pandemic we have another pandemic and that is trauma. And that is nationwide and is worse with everything going on in the world." - Lisseth DeGracia, RN

A mother since she was 18, and having been through a lot of life before that time, Lisseth has an incredible ability to give compassion, care, and to use non-invasive modes of connection, simply listening and being there, to begin healing a person in the midst of trauma. As someone who has seen some of the 'worst of the worst', Lisseth shares how she seems to stay human, and to not "shut down" or "shut off" the softer parts of herself to get by- in medicine or in life. In our opinion, she not only stays human but she allows others to feel that same peace, beautifully.

In this episode:

- The medical importance of bringing human interaction back into practicing medicine

- Chronic and acute issues that occur as a result of vitamin and mineral deficiencies

- New preventative medicine approaches that bridge modern and alternative medicine

- Personal testimonial to working medical frontlines in the pandemic

- Inspirational stories of Lisseth's own, and those of patients

Listen in to be touched by our human connections, our strength, and to find motivation to support another- regardless of what arena it's in.

"Just being there for someone, understanding"..." When people end up in the ER, [consider that] nobody plans to be there. No one starts their day thinking that." - Lisseth DeGracia, RN

Resources

- Get more information about Lisseth's Dynamic Drips (IV Hydration company), and schedule an event or at-home visit yourself:

https://www.dynamicdrips.com/

- Meet Lisseth at The Point's first Social Wellness Club event in Edina, MN at Basecamp Fitness - 9 AM, October 30th.

Dr. Suzanne, a healthcare leader reintroducing forest bathing into the US, offers anecdotes, studies and much more backing the approach that time in nature medically heals. An author, speaker, an expert in several integrative modalities, having her own conventional MD background, and with an active client base in OB-GYN, Dr. Bartlett Hackenmiller didn't miss a beat in acknowledging the potentially 'out-there' claim that simply being in nature can tangibly better your health. As you listen-in, she will debunk any hesitancy with anecdotes, stories, and studies as Suzanne teaches us not only what forest bathing is, but how and why it may be practiced.

"Going outdoors and walking, hiking, running, sitting, gazing, bird watching, fishing. Whatever the activity is, if you enjoy it and you're outdoors, you're benefiting from it. It doesn't have to be some fancy new thing - it's just getting outdoors." - Suzanne Bartlett Hackenmiller, M.D.

Board certified by American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Board of Integrative Medicine, Suzanne holds additional certifications in herbal medicine and is a certified forest therapy guide. She currently serves as medical director for the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy and as medical advisor for the organization, AllTrails. Her partnership with AllTrails paris well with her interest in outdoor adventure; something she notes is a great alternative to quiet meditative time in nature while still having the wellbeing benefits. Her personal interest in mountain biking and National Park hiking also brought to light insider trail recommendations - shared in the podcast!

Dr. Suzanne Bartlett Hackenmiller is a great resource for any person interested in health and wellbeing. Though her stories commonly speak to the symptom solving and healing nature of time outdoors; her work also pairs well with nutrition and movement in living a preventative medicine lifestyle. As a bonus, Suzanne also dives into breathwork and the importance of breathing exercises. Another integrative modality she recommends that, alone or paired with forest bathing, can surpass many conventional approaches in resolving unwanted symptoms.

Tune into this episode to be reminded of the small but impactful changes that you can implement immediately without side-effects or a need for continuing education. Better yet, you get to individualize how you bathe in the forest, so you will enjoy the practice on both a visceral and cognitive level - all while you're improving your health.

Resources

Personal website providing integrative wellness offerings and opportunities - events, media, blog and more.

Authored book: The Outdoor Adventurer's Guide to Forest Bathing: Using Shinrin-Yoku to Hike, Bike, Paddle, and Climb Your Way to Health and Happiness

Join Dr. Suzanne Bartlett Hackenmiller as she leads and facilitates activities and education at The Point.

It is not an either/or it's a both/and, and after listening today you will no longer brush past issues without addressing the impact they've had on you.

Dr. Corey Martin's work has most been with the healthcare professional population, but his wisdom also offers a great deal of hope for educators and anyone else struggling with life-dissatisfaction. Corey's interview covers three pillars that contribute most to burnout, and provides listeners a fresh perspective on how we can mend our communities. We have a need for long-term change within our working systems (companies often overburdening their staff), but until greater change happens on the business operations front, we cannot forget that we need to take action now towards individuals; to throw some life preservers out to save people before there are more dire consequences in the future. To avoid an even worse up-tick in disastrous outcomes for our healing frontline workers and leaders, Corey discusses opportunities in the form of:

1) Taking care of ourselves

2) Taking care of each other (peers)

3) Taking care of our families

There is a great deal of hope provided in this interview, and you'll also feel the heavy reminder that we all have a need for self-compassion.

Feel understood as you listen to Corey's own experiences with death and dying that most changed his approach to life.
