Our Why

BREAK THE CYCLE: the cycle of poverty, abuse, sadness, limiting beliefs, abandonment, thinking we have to live this way because this is how our family has always lived, not living through faith, and depletion.

Research shows women in today’s times are: rushed, frustrated, overwhelmed, depleted, in constant comparison, feeling guilty, looking to fit in, wondering if they are doing enough, if they are enough, feeling alone, overthinking, exhausted, trying to please and be perfect, searching for a peach of joy, emotionally damaged, burned out, resentful, fearful and neglecting themselves.

A recent study tells us 65% of women have said “the pandemic has made things harder for them”.

Many Woman are looking to live fully in the present, find their passion and purpose. They want to feel whole and connected, authentic, live clutter free lives, have good energy, manage time well, have self-love and self-acceptance, balance motherhood & careers, find their meaning, have time for themselves, have productive days, take control of their days, be consistent, stay hydrated…. The list goes on!!!

She is the Founder and Owner to Top to Bottom Cleaning.

Luciana wasn’t always in the cleaning business. After obtaining a degree in fashion design and marketing, in her native Brazil, she worked for the next ten years managing a fashion boutique and for internationally recognized companies Louis Vuitton and Armani. Upon moving to Wilmington, Luciana became the general manager of an oil and gas company and worked for various cleaning companies over the next several years. It wasn’t long before Luciana combined her experience in design, management, and cleaning to create her own business providing premium home cleaning services to residents of Wilmington, NC. And just like that Top to Bottom House Cleaning was born!

Luciana’s goal has been to provide her clients with the best cleaning experience that leaves them feeling relaxed, comfortable, and amazed. She is the writer, producer and director of the play ‘What the River Knows’.

Alicia Inshiradu developed ‘What The River Knows’ - an intergenerational tale of family, romance, murder, racial strife and redemption, set against the backdrop of Wilmington’s White Supremacist Massacre of 1898 - as her Master’s thesis, a feature-length screenplay. In 2017, she excerpted from her thesis a short teaser film script which she directed, produced and premiered at Cucalorus Film Festival. The reaction was so positive that Inshiradu’s executive producers convinced her to adapt the story for the live stage as a gift to the community. The rest is history.

The play will show from November 10-13, 2022 at Thalian Hall in Wilmington, NC.

Judy loves interior design. She cares about personal health and the health of our planet. She enjoys making people happy. She believes that sustainable design is every designer’s responsibility and strives to incorporate environmentally friendly design solutions into each project.

Gabriel Tew and his wife of thirty-five years, Sharlene, live in Wilmington, NC. They have six adult children, two daughters in love and four grandchildren (to whom they are known as G-Pop and Lolli.) Since several of their kids live in different states, Gabriel and Sharlene love traveling to spend time with their kids and their families.

Gabriel has been a musician, evangelist, pastor, church planter and healthcare administrator. He currently serves as pastor-leader/Executive Director of Christian Recovery Houses, a discipleship ministry for people recovering from addiction.

After working with hundreds of Military, Veterans, and First Responders with all of their real estate needs, she continued to hear their stories of hardships. She decided to do so much more for them and help with the issues I was continuously exposed to.

Since 2017 she has traveled the country in an RV raising awareness to PTSD, Suicide and Mental health in our heroes. The National Veteran Resources Mobile Unit travels city to city and state to state providing in person education and resources for family members and friends of Active Duty Military (Including National Guard and Reservists) and Veterans on signs of suicide and how to help your loved ones.

You can join Caroline, a baby green sea turtle, as she begins her life's journey. Her adventures lead her from Carolina Beach, North Carolina to Key West, Florida. Along the way, she meets many colorful creatures and learns some very important lessons about accepting differences. But how does she become The Painted Turtle? Read along to find out.

Jeanne majored in fine art in college and was a full-time artist from 1992-1998. That career became part-time for too many years! Josh Johnson is a combat veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps with 3rd battalion 6th Marines and deployed to Afghanistan with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. After his time in service, Josh moved to Wilmington, NC to find work. “Are my dreams even mine?”

I asked myself this question at the end of yet another 70-hour workweek. I had missed my daughters’ swim meets and soccer games just to get out there and chase the next transaction as a real estate agent.

The funny thing was, the reason I became an agent in the first place was that I didn’t want to work nights and weekends. Yet soon I found myself in the same hole every agent will eventually: the point where you’re not thinking about your career, or your freedom, or your happiness. You’re only thinking about the next transaction.

I’m TJ McGraw, creator of the Agent Mind podcast. My aim is to help real estate agents break out of the same rut I was in.  I was trapped in a Groundhog Day loop of stress; my previous job as in the hospitality industry as an operations manager had been just as demanding. My personal life was suffering because of my job. And that was the point where I knew I had to stop looking outwards for only the next transaction, and actually, look inwards for once.

How do we define our goals? Usually, we just adopt other people’s – the simplest ones. Get the most money, buy the biggest car. We limit ourselves to one-dimensional thinking in a way that actually ends up hurting our bottom line. Yes, it may feel like you’re earning more money, but if it means sacrificing an extra 30 hours a week of your time… are you really?

What I find best is to let your entrepreneurial tendencies take over. Something that doesn’t require your constant presence, but allows you to make passive income. This income feeds back into your perception of your day job, and all of a sudden you’re okay with working fewer hours because you’re making more money anyway. You end up richer not just in your bank account, but in your life.  Of course, this requires insight and self-discovery, which I’m only all too happy to help you with. Our Purpose:

We provide residential, therapeutic programs to female victims of human trafficking who have been sexually exploited, offering medical, spiritual, mental, and emotional care. We welcome women and girls of all ages, and mothers with their children. Regardless of race, color, creed, or religion, survivors in pain can be assured they will find love and acceptance at The WellHouse.

Our Services:

We offer emergency-, short-, and long-term restoration programs to female victims of human trafficking.

Our Story:

The WellHouse began when a survivor of human trafficking determined that there needed to be a place of safety and trust for victims not yet rescued. Her outreach, and that of others, to women in the Woodlawn area, close to the I-20 corridor, led her to realize that there were no shelters solely for trafficked victims. She then conceived the idea of a home with no prerequisites or requirements that often hinder victims from obtaining needed assistance. 

 The WellHouse was born from this vision.

We are a 24-hour shelter offering immediate assistance to trafficked women who are rescued from anywhere in the United States. Entry requirements to programs, such as a state identification, proof of homelessness and a birth certificate, can undermine a woman’s access to an immediate, safe environment; therefore, these have been eliminated. We welcome victim survivors who desire help and who want to move toward becoming Overcomers! There is nothing lacking at The WellHouse that would hinder success, and there is everything to gain for a life that was once hopeless!

The WellHouse Name:

The name, The WellHouse, is taken from The Bible’s story of the Samaritan woman at the well, because we are a “a place where women never have to thirst again, ” - John 4:11-15.

“A place where women never have to thirst again.”

“Sir,” the woman said, “You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where can you get this living

water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his flocks and herds?”

a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

The effort began in the summer of 2019 and culminated in a final 4-1 vote of the New Hanover County Commission to partner with Novant Health and create a $1.2 billion community foundation. The result will transform New Hanover County and southeastern North Carolina for generations.

Natalie has a knack for leading teams to create innovative ways to educate and inform chamber members as well as give them a way to connect with each other and the resources they need in order to grow. The creativity and innovation Natalie employs to drive revenue have led to an impressive increase in cash on hand for the Wilmington Chamber.

Natalie received her B.A. in Communications from North Carolina State University and achieved her designation as a Certified Chamber Executive in 2012, one of only several hundred. In 2010, the National Association of Women Business Owners – Charlotte Chapter awarded Natalie with their Community Service Award. When the decision to move back to Wilmington became solid, she asked Heather & Ash of CLD to bring their model with her and become their sister school, Wilmington Latin Dance. Wilmington was ready and poised for some new energy and it's been an exciting journey growing the dance community. Since WLD's Launch Party in 2012, the word continues to spread and the community is growing! Latin Dancing is the choice for nightlife and Wilmington Latin Dance is the choice to learn and connect. 

Summer has a true passion for teaching and sharing the joy of dance. Performing is another avenue where her spirit can be expressed. She was surprised by the satisfaction of creating choreography and was up for the challenge! WLD's Ladies Bachata Team has been able to perform regionally and share their unique style through their routines. Summer is also the Director of Wilmington Touch, a local Team that is a branch of the internationally known, Island Touch Dance Academy. It is an honor for her to have been chosen to represent and direct a Team here in Wilmington that is a part of a worldwide network of over 65 Touch Teams. 

Along with dance, Summer also enjoys drawing, painting and traveling. Her husband is one with crazy ideas as well and owns King Neptune Restaurant; an awesome restaurant in Wrightsville Beach. She also has two daughters with self-expression and crazy all their own!

Alexandra Lysik is a double graduate of UNCW, with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a master’s degree in Public Administration.
