In Acts 17:6, the early believers were described as those who "turned the world upside down." As they followed Jesus and boldly proclaimed the gospel; people, cities, and cultures were transformed.

In the chapter leading up to this, we hear of the impact that they had on the city of Philippi. This story provided the framework for this message and an invitation to radically following Jesus.

We had the immense privilege of welcoming Mark Buchanan; author (The Rest of God, Your Church is too Safe, Hidden in Plain Sight (and so much more)) and professor at Ambrose Univeristy in Calgary in Alberta. He preached this powerful message around at Terwillegar Community Church at our Resurgence Edmonton Gathering in March, 2024.

The Movement of Jesus: Travis Holownia (February 10, 2024)

When Jesus called His disciples He called them to a movement. This movement was one that changed history on a global scale while impacting the lives of the individual disciples.

As followers of Jesus today, we are called to be a part of that same movement and it happens on a large scale but it also happens in our hearts as we surrender ourselves to His plan and leadership.

Travis Holownia, Executive Director of Resurgence Initiatives, preached a message around these themes at Kingdom Church (St. Albert) at our Resurgence Edmonton Gathering in February, 2024. This message was a call to each present to join in the movement of Jesus as well as an overview of the role we feel Resurgence is going to be playing in this movement as some major changes to our ministry are introduced and expanded on.

In Romans 12, Paul encourages us not to conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. How does this happen? Jim proposes that this transformation comes as a result of giving ourselves to the place of prayer that is rooted in repentance and from a place of relationship.

We have a desire to see everyone come to the saving knowledge of Jesus, but oftentimes, in our focus on the crowds, we can miss the one right in front of us. When Jesus was ministering a crowded house, a few men had to break through the roof and lower their friend in need of healing to see Jesus. This 'interruption' led to an incredible encounter for the man, who was healed and forgiven by Jesus. In order to reach everyone, we need everyone to know their worth and calling: to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the people God places on our path.
