In this week's episode Lauren discusses the Pros and Cons of Hiring Skilled vs Unskilled Staff for your Salon Business. No hiring decision is easy, but this episode should allow you to get some clarity about what you're gaining (and potentially what you're giving up) when hiring experienced vs inexperienced Team Members.

Hiring "Skilled" Staff (the Pros and Cons):

• Pro: Skilled Team Members are up-and-running much much quicker and making money for you from the start (08:45).

• Pro: Less training requirements to get a Skilled Hire working at a Professional Level (09:45).

• Pro: A Skilled Hire might bring some Clients with them to your Business (10:15).

• Con: Sometimes with advanced skills comes a big ego, and potentially bad habits that have been let go in the past (10:30).

• Con: The Skilled Hire might not be as skilled as you'd hoped they would be (12:15).

Hiring "Unskilled" Staff (the Pros and Cons):

• Pro: Eager to learn and eager to please, with plenty of positive energy (13:30).

• Pro: Unskilled Hires can help out around the Salon while they build their Clientele (15:00).

• Pro: Due to the Business giving them their start and building their skills-base, Unskilled Hires tend to be more loyal and stay with your Salon for longer (15:45).

• Con: They're NOT making money from the start (16:30).

• Con: It can take longer to build Client Trust with Unskilled Hires (18:00).

• Con: Given that Unskilled Hires are generally younger, they can be immature at times, and may come with overly-involved and interfering Parent(s) (18:30).
