Sounds Across Continents: Screams In The Night

Well its been a while but we are back again! Over the next few weeks we are going to be finishing up our Sounds Across Continents series before picking it up again with Sounding Wild's newest expedition Music Across Continents. This episode we join Axel and Ed, who having left Liberia are now in Ghana! Get ready for elephants, baboons and blood sucking insects, as well as a special sound that Jake has brought to the table for the boys.

Sounds Across Continents: Liberia And Beyond!

After a brief hiatus we are back, joining Axel who has just entered Liberia!And excitingly we are joined by a new member of the crew who will be travelling with us as we venture further into Africa! Sounds Across Continents: How The Dance Floor Can Heal Us

Join us as to bid farewell to Sierra Leone (at least for now) as Axel, special guest Bamie from WAYout and I catch up, chatting about Axel's close calls with death so far on this trip, the music he has been making, as well as the serious issues that the youth of Sierra Leone face and how organisations like WAYout are creating opportunities through music and art for those living in poverty. We also listen to a load of sounds, including our mystery sound, and go through the creative process of using the sounds that surround us in nature and combining them with the stories that link them to us, to create music that unites everyone.

Sounds Across Continents: The Arrival

Axel has finally arrived back in Africa, kicking off Sounding Wild's second expedition, Sound Across Continents, in Sierra Leone. We catch up about what it's like to be back, and how he has found settling back into life out there, whilst also reflecting on how whilst we as humans are limited by the lines we draw across the globe, nature has no borders, and what this means for our shared stewardship of the earth.

Oh yeah, and I hear a sound that can only be described as a terrifying prehistoric creature... Enjoy!

Sounds Across Continents: The Beginning

This is the start of a very long journey, that will take you across continents and oceans, bringing to your ears sounds that you are guaranteed not to have ever heard. Welcome to the very first episode of Sonic Migrations, a place where hosts Axel Drioli and Jake Lee-Savage meet to talk audio, nature and art.

To kick our first season off we will be following Axels main project Sounding Wild's second expedition, Sounds Across Continents. Over the next 6 months Axel will be trekking across the West coast of Africa bringing to our ears new immersive field recordings and tales of adventure, all whilst searching for seven key species and the stories that surround them.

And it all begins in East London on a rainy evening in December, the night before Axel is due to set off, where he and Jake meet up to talk about the upcoming adventure, as well as listen to a few sounds from the last expedition. Enjoy!
