In this episode, I am joined by esteemed guest Anthony Uvenio, a pastor and host of The Reformed Rookie podcast, as we delve into the implications of church authority as articulated in Scripture versus the traditions upheld by the Roman Catholic Church. We explore the historical context of Peter's role within the early church and scrutinize the theological underpinnings that claim apostolic succession and papal supremacy. Through rigorous examination and scriptural references, we seek to elucidate the principles that define the true church and its leadership, emphasizing the necessity for a return to biblical authority in matters of faith. Join us as we engage in this critical discourse, aiming to clarify these pivotal issues for our listeners.

Takeaways:

The essence of the church is not confined to a physical building, but it is constituted by believers who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, having repented of their sins and placed their faith in Christ as Lord.

A thorough examination of Scripture reveals that the authority of the church is derived solely from God, and not from any human institution or figure, thus affirming the doctrine of sola scriptura as central to our faith.

Peter, while being a significant figure in the early church, is not the foundation upon which the church is built; rather, that foundation is Christ himself, as articulated throughout the New Testament.

The concept of papal infallibility and authority is not supported by Scripture, as it contradicts the teachings of the Bible regarding the sole headship of Christ over the church.

The Roman Catholic Church's teachings on salvation, which include a reliance on good works and additional mediators, diverge from the Gospel message that emphasizes faith in Christ alone for salvation.

A critical engagement with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church is essential, as many sincere believers may be ensnared by doctrines that obscure the simplicity and sufficiency of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Links referenced in this episode:

stopandthinkpodcast.com

soulfishingministries.org

gbcny.org

youtube.com

https://stop-and-think-about-it.captivate.fm/episode/unveiling-the-papacy-divine-institution-or-human-invention

<itunes:image href="https://artwork.captivate.fm/d22c72e0-07c3-4565-8d3c-59f9285b0a9d/stopandthink-3000.jpg"/>

<itunes:duration>01:30:40</itunes:duration><itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType><itunes:episode>64</itunes:episode><podcast:episode>64</podcast:episode><podcast:transcript url="https://transcripts.captivate.fm/transcript/c3b83f20-78f0-45da-ab8d-9de92b0678a5/transcript.json" type="application/json"/><podcast:transcript url="https://transcripts.captivate.fm/transcript/c3b83f20-78f0-45da-ab8d-9de92b0678a5/transcript.srt" type="application/srt" rel="captions"/><podcast:transcript url="https://transcripts.captivate.fm/transcript/c3b83f20-78f0-45da-ab8d-9de92b0678a5/index.html" type="text/html"/><podcast:chapters url="https://transcripts.captivate.fm/chapter-44dd9300-ad06-4eae-a366-78f2bfdae119.json" type="application/json+chapters"/>

#63 Understanding Manhood: Navigating Cultural Confusion
<itunes:title>#63 Understanding Manhood: Navigating Cultural Confusion</itunes:title>

In this thought-provoking episode of the podcast, host Phil Sessa and Special guest Rick Thomas engage in a substantive discussion regarding the current state of gender identity and its implications for society, particularly from a biblical perspective. These men used the only analytical tool that has the power to destroy arguments and every lofty opinion that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, that is the Gospel. Men like Tertullian, Ignatius, Athanasius, Augustine, Huss, Wycliffe, Luther, Calvin, Knox, Tyndale, Spurgeon, Warfield, and Machen fought courageously to defend the purity of the Gospel.

Today that battle continues. Men have risen from among our ranks and are introducing destructive ideologies and heresies that have slipped in through the “Trojan Horse” of Social Justice. Russell Moore, Thabiti Anywabile, Matt Chandler, Matthew Hall, Jarvis Williams, Curtis Wood, Eric Mason, J.D. Greear, Tim Keller, Ekemini Uwan, Jackie Hill Perry, Jemar Tisby, Mark Dever, Jonathan Leeman, Isaac Adams, David Platt and many more, are either adamantly teaching or passively permitting this godless ideology to spread through the church. Where are the Spurgeons of our day? Where are the Christians who will fight against this wickedness and join the ranks of those who boldly stand for the Gospel and care more about truth than their own reputation?

In this four-part series entitled “Social Justice: The Trojan Horse”, we will define the modern-day heresy of Social Justice, name names of those who are promoting it and provide you with the only analytical tool that can refute it: the Gospel. So, please join us now, as we take this time to “Stop and think about it.”

“Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.” (Jude 3-4).

Important Notice: A warning about Gregory A. Boyd.

Although we are recommending his excellent book on Oneness Theology entitled,"Oneness Pentecostals and the Trinity". We cannot recommend other work by this author. Gregory A. Boyd has embraced the heresy called Open Theism. Unfortunately, Greg Boyd is guilty of what Glenroy Clarke has often stated, "Some people run hard away from one heresy, but they run too far to the other side and fall into the ditch of another heresy".

In this case, the old axiom stands true. “A broken clock is right twice a day".
