Talking In The Dark With Martin Hibbert: Machester Bomb Survivor And Author</itunes:title>

This week’s guest has had a life experience that no-one should ever have to endure. In May of 2017, whilst at a concert with his daughter, Martin Hibbert found himself stood only meters away from a suicide bomber seconds before detonation. Caught directly in the blast of the explosion both Martin and his daughter were left fighting for their lives, and suffered life changing injuries as a result.
Martin’s story is one of extreme physical and emotional trauma but also great resilience, determination, and ultimately triumph.
Today on Talking in the Dark Evie speaks with Martin Hibbert: author, motivational speak, vice president of the Spinal-Cord Injuries Association and survivor of the Manchester Arena bomb attack.
In this powerful conversation Evie learns all about Martin’s experience on the night of the attack, his recovery and rehabilitation afterwards, and the relentless and inspiring work he now does raising awareness for others with spinal-cord injuries.

In this fascinating chat Evie discusses with her esteemed guests amongst other things; the people that have inspired them, working in the military, 60’s prog rock music, Midge - the first dog of Government House, …and bungie jumping!

This lovely talk is highly engaging and provides a wonderful insight into the lives of these very special people and highlights the huge amount of love and respect they both have for the Isle of Man, and the people that live there.

We would like to thank His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor and lady Lorimer very much for giving us their valuable time and sharing their personal stories so openly on the podcast.

On this week’s Talking in the Dark Evie sits down with Chris and talks with him about his life and career being blind.

In this wide-ranging conversation Evie and Chris discuss, amongst other things his particular form of blindness, the role humour can play in breaking down barriers, creating the hit TV show “Wonders of the world I can’t see”, and whether, if given the opportunity, Chris would ever want his sight back.

This conversation is both funny and illuminating and we thank Chris greatly for agreeing to talk so openly. A brilliant role model, a genius performer, and a truly wonderful ambassador for the blind community. Thank you, Chris!

In 2024 Chris McCausland will be heading back out on tour with a brand-new show “Yonks!”!

Mat, who has a physical disability, has been at the centre of British culture for the past 35 years. Immediately recognisable for his performance work in such shows as American Horror Story and His Dark Materials, Mat is also well known and greatly respected as a staunch advocate for the disabled community.

Through this wonderful conversation Evie and Mat talk about many issues related to disability, including growing up as a ‘Bornie’, the education system, and being an actor. Mat also explains how he created the ground breaking BBC Four series ‘Criptales’, a powerful television project written and performed by disabled people.

This is a sparkling conversation full of fun, humour, and love of life.

There is a reason Mat Fraser is considered a national treasure, his generosity of spirit, his kindness, his talent, and his complete commitment to the disabled community, which he clearly adores, that quite simply knows no bounds!

Thank you, Mat. It was a complete joy and privilege to meet and talk with you.
