Show Highlights:

What is the seat height of the KTM 790 Duke? Can riders of any height ride it?

36:08 Nani and Bimbo

The seat height is 825mm or about 32 inches and doesn’t require a specific height for the riders. (vertically challenged rider friendly)

Where can we get the PowerParts for the KTM 790 Duke?

36:17 Nani

PowerParts and demo units are available at KTM BGC, KTM Quezon Avenue, KTM Cebu, and KTM Davao.

When is the best time to apply chain lube?

52:39 Nani

The perfect time to apply the chain lube is once you get home from a ride and the bike is still warm. Let the oil sit for the night, and your bike is ready for use again the next day.

53:36 Bimbo

Wipe off excess lube after application. The essential parts that need to be oiled are the rollers and o-rings (or x-rings for some models). There’s no need for excessive lube application to the outer side of the chain as this could become flammable or leak into the tires.

The seat height is 855mm, higher than your average everyday motorcycle because it’s an adventure bike. The taller height is compensated by a slimmer saddle.

Yes, the seat can be lowered. You can order your lowering kits through your KTM Authorized Dealers. There is no need to worry about the ground clearance because the geometry of the KTM 390 Adventure does not change regardless of the seat height.

What is the KTM MY RIDE Navigation App, and where can we get it?

51:20 Bimbo

The KTM MY RIDE App is an in-house navigation app that you can download from the App Store or Google Play Store for only P399. It’s fully adapted to the Philippine map and traffic system.

You need to nurture it, so your relationship grows longer and stronger.”
Loving the thrill of riding your KTM bike? Let us ask you, though. When was the last time you visited your local KTM Authorized Dealer for a check-up? To sustain your motorcycle’s maximum performance, take advantage of KTM’s Aftersales Service.

Aftersales starts the moment your KTM Authorized Dealer hands over your new KTM motorcycle and orients you on how to use it. Upon turnover, you will be given the Delivery Certificate, which you will sign and become your proof of purchase. This certificate also contains the vital information you need when bringing your bike for PMS or repair and checking the service record online.

With Aftersales Service, three critical elements need to be in place. First, proper tools and equipment are used to check your bike’s condition. At KTM, we use the XC-2 diagnostic tool kit that works like a patient’s chart for your motorcycle and knows its ins and outs. Second, with proper tools comes a trained and knowledgeable technician who will perform the complete diagnostics check using the XC-2 tool kit. There are no other technicians qualified to handle KTM motorcycles than those at our KTM Authorized Dealers. And finally, since your bike is built ready to race and packed with superior components, only genuine parts must be installed to maintain its unrivaled performance.

Make sure to tune in to the rest of the episode as Nani and Bimbo walk you through each step of the Aftersales Service and discuss the importance of performing regular preventive maintenance on your bike. Subscribe and check out the other episodes of Thursday Bike Talk Live! Podcast for more riding tips!

Exceptional Highlights:

Looking after a motorcycle and keeping it in optimum efficiency is the responsibility of the owner and rider, not just the dealers and distributor.
Genuine parts are available only at the KTM Authorized Dealers nationwide. When you buy these parts and have them installed at the dealership, you are covered by a 6-month warranty.

Before hitting the streets, you need to check first if your bike has the right oil level, as indicated in the gauge levels. Next, to have unbeatable performance, charge your battery adequately. A battery lasts for 1.5 to 2 years only, so it’s best to note the date when you last replaced yours. Lastly, ensure that your bike has the correct tire pressure before rolling out since it’s normal for tires to lose pressure after prolonged storage.

On the flip side, if you’re going to keep your bikes for an extended period because of the pandemic, you must remember three things: First, maintain 5 to 6 liters of fuel in your tank to guarantee that the fuel pump is submerged, thereby avoiding corrosion. Second, secure your bike’s tire pressure; add 1 to 2 PSI to allow for tire pressure reduction during the lockdown. Lastly, you need to lubricate your bike’s chain right after using your bike. Timing is essential as you need enough heat on the chain to allow the absorption of the lubricant.

Tune in to the rest of the show as Nani and Bimbo break down each item on our checklists and talk about the dos and don’ts of bike maintenance. Don’t forget to share this episode with your friends and family who are into motorcycle sports to give them more knowledge about proper bike maintenance.

Exceptional Highlights:

An appropriate oil level is critical in achieving the superior performance of your bike. Excessive oil can cause overflowing, air filter spoilage, difficulty in shifting gears, or damaged oil seals.

In the worst scenario that your battery fully flats out, use jumper cables to kick-start it and stop further damage to your bike’s engine.

It is helpful to read the owner’s manual to learn about basic maintenance and how to unleash your bike’s ultimate power. 70-80% of frequently asked questions are answerable by the manual.

Show Highlights:

Can we buy bigger rear tires for our bikes?

24:45 Nani

We don’t recommend bigger tires since this changes the geometry of the bike and its lean angle position, which poses a danger to the rider. Switching to bigger tires affects the handling of the bike, its performance, and required tire pressure. While having bigger rear tires is good to look at, it’s better to stick to what the manufacturer recommends. You can upgrade your experience by buying the right sized tire from a better brand with a better compound.

Is it true that the KTM 390 Duke often breaks down and requires repairs more frequently than the other models?

32:20 Nani

I have been a lucky owner of a 2nd-generation 390 Duke since 2017. In my experience, I have not done any repairs on my bike besides regular preventive maintenance. All parts are original except the battery, which I replaced since it’s been used for over two years.

Can we use WD40, Singer oil, or ordinary engine oil to lubricate our bike chain?

42:25 Nani

No. WD40 or Water Dispersion 40 only takes out the water but does not lubricate the chain. It’s suitable for cleaning but not as a lubricant replacement. Using WD40 also allows rust to form.
Ordinary engine oil is also not recommended since it doesn’t have the property to stick to the chain. The consistency is typically thinner than a chain lubricant.
Use only a lubricant intended for bike chains, no matter the brand. The crucial part is to regularly apply them to your bike chain at least twice a month.

After how many kilometers do we change the bike chain?

44:58 Nani

Chain replacement is relative to use. If you’re not using chain lubricant or not properly maintaining your bike, the kilometers would be shorter. For regular use, replacement would be in about 15,000 to 20,000 kilometers. The chain links begin to harden, and you hear a noise coming from the chain when it’s time to replace it.

**This episode was aired and recorded live in April 2020, at the height of the first COVID lockdown in Metro Manila.**

The lockdown has been immensely challenging for us, especially for the frontliners in the medical field and essential services, who protect and provide us with our basic needs. Staying at home is one way to show them our unyielding support and help flatten the curve until we overcome the pandemic.

For some, staying at home can feel monotonous and unexciting. But there are multiple ways to turn boredom into something exciting and productive. For KTM riders, you can maintain the adrenaline kick by cleaning and disinfecting your bikes and accessories. You can warm up your engines at least once a week for five to ten minutes to sustain your bike’s superior power. Do this in an open space to avoid inhaling toxic fumes and overheating the headlight. These are just some of the many things you can do during your pause from riding.

For more practical tips, listen until the end of the episode as Nani and Bimbo walk you through other lockdown activities and special announcements for KTM riders! Please share this with your friends and family who are into motorcycles to give them the thrill of riding experience even while at home.

Exceptional Highlights:

All KTM riders are granted a 30-day extension for the PMS schedule and warranty period during the lockdown (in 2020). This means that if your PMS schedule falls within the lockdown period, you will have another 30 days to complete it. The warranty period is likewise extended.

Extension of 30 days also applies to KTM riders with expiring warranty claims falling during the lockdown period (in 2020).

A KTM PH text message (SMS) was sent to frontliners who are KTM riders to help with repairs and technical concerns. KTM will then provide online diagnostics and support. Through this initiative (in 2020), KTM hopes to aid frontliners as they tirelessly carry on with their jobs every day.

Show Highlights:

When will the lowering kits and crash guard for KTM 390 Adventure become available?

12:45 Nani

We are expecting the units to arrive in the country in a few months. Soon as they are here, lowering kits and crash guards will be ordered and will become available shortly after.

Do you recommend the KTM 390 Duke for a beginner rider?

16:00 Nani

It would depend on where you intend to use it and for what purpose. For long rides and when using the expressway, yes, 390 Duke will give you that naked performance. However, if you have just started biking and riding within the Metro only, I suggest getting the 200 Duke. It’s a lightweight fighter with a heavyweight's uppercut to give you ultimate power when you hit the streets.

Where can we request for the warranty booklet?

30:33 Nani

There is no need to request the booklet anymore. The warranty and history will be made available online. Email us, and we will provide you with the page where you can see the warranty file.

30:54 Bimbo

When visiting the page, simply input your VIN (vehicle identification number) and delivery certificate number to see the history.

TBT Live! Podcast talks about riding, KTM and everything motorcycles.
With “dyed in the wool rider” Nani Juarez and Bimbo Isidro as the dynamic duo of this show, both renowned motorcycle personalities also work full-time with Adventure Cycle Philippines, Inc., the official distributor of KTM motorcycles in the country.
Nani heads the Aftersales Department which provides technical support for KTM owners, while Bimbo, as Business Development Manager, handles all KTM Authorized Dealers nationwide.

First aired in 2017, Thursday Bike Talk (TBT) was created as an avenue to promote KTM motorcycles and serve all riders. To this day, TBT Live! continues to share valuable information and knowledge that benefits the local and Filipino riders.

Through the podcast format, TBT Live! is made more accessible to riders, giving them the chance to download and listen to the show whenever and wherever they are. Exceptional Highlights:

Beware of fake news and false information spreading online. If you have issues or technical concerns with your bike, not just KTM bikes, ask people who are knowledgeable and trained in handling motorcycles. These are your KTM Authorized Dealers.

Reading your Owner’s Manual is a huge help in preventing problems when riding your bike. Answers to most of your technical questions are found there.

When you encounter troubles with your motorcycle, do not attempt to repair it yourself. Instead, bring your bike to the nearest KTM Authorized Dealer to avoid voiding the warranty.

Show Highlights:

When and how did KTM start in the Philippines?

KTM Philippines started in 2016, intending to bring top-notch European motorcycles to the country. The first Thursday Bike Talk (TBT) aired in 2017.

Presently, KTM has become one of the known brands in the premium segment of motorcycles in the Philippines, offering different ranges of bikes: from the punchy 200s to the agile mid-range 790s up to the beastly 1290s.

The dream of KTM and Ayala Corporation was to make superior motorcycles affordable to all Filipinos and make known around the globe the world-class talent of Filipino bike builders.

Are the hosts of TBT Live motorcycle riders themselves?

Nani and I go way back as riders. We are what you call the “dyed-in-the-wool” riders. Riding has improved the quality of life we have now and has brought us so much enjoyment, which I’m sure other riders understand.

5:38 Nani

Bimbo and I have been riding motorcycles since before riding became mainstream. Riding is our passion, and it’s helped us in many ways and different aspects of our lives.

Where can we get a copy of our owner’s manual?

8:27 Bimbo

All manuals of every KTM motorcycle are found on the KTM website. After buying your bike, KTM will provide the link to view the manuals online and download them.
