After an unintended break, Diggy is back with a run of stories that escalate quickly. There’s a school-day stomach ache that turns into three days off thanks to a baffling sickness policy, a brutal bout of COVID, and a delivered breakfast sandwich that contains all the right ingredients in entirely the wrong order.

Then it’s Christmas Day. A late start, chaotic family logistics, relentless cups of tea, dropped roast potatoes, burnt Yorkshire puddings, and a Christmas dinner that finally happens far later than intended and is deeply unsatisfying.

After all that, Diggy makes a big announcement: episode 100 will be the final episode of That’s a Free Bee.

The show was always an experiment, and it worked, but rigid schedules didn’t. So rather than force it, the podcast is ending cleanly and making way for something more flexible.

That new show is Hey It’s Diggy. Short, ad-hoc episodes released whenever there’s something worth saying. No fixed length. No fixed schedule. The first episode is already live.

Plus subscribers haven’t been forgotten. Payments were paused, subscriptions will be cancelled properly, and all previous Plus content will be unlocked and made free.

There’s one final episode of That’s a Free Bee next week, featuring the joke that inspired the name of the podcast.

After an unplanned week off thanks to a particularly grim round of COVID, there is a catch up on being completely bedbound, surprise lab swabs at the doctor, and trying to keep the whole “go to the gym and not fall apart” plan vaguely on track. Weight loss is happening, motivation is wobbling, and the scales are apparently doing performance art.

This week’s episode of That’s a Free Bee is a bit of everything: seaside misery, near-death heroics, gecko care, food-related slapstick, and, of course, a tram story.

Friend of the show Chris checks in with an update on Victor Wright’s Electronics in Bury. Then I recount our family trip to Llandudno — a beach day that started with seaweed stink, drunk strangers, and grumpiness but ended with me literally saving a kid from drowning. Beach shoes: 1, Seaweed: 0.

Elsewhere, Goldie the leopard gecko has been on a rollercoaster of diets, burns, and humidity issues — but he’s finally turning the corner. I also witness one of the most bizarre food-court disasters ever (imagine someone trying to levitate both feet at once) and wrap it up with a tram tale involving a balaclava, ticket inspectors, and one very dumb kid.

This week on That’s a Free Bee, I confess to a little podcasting oopsie—some of you might have briefly seen Pod Tales pop up in your feed before it vanished into the digital void. Turns out, between flat audio, 40 failed attempts to say “skeletons,” and a rogue unedited section, I had to pull the plug. But don’t worry, because from the ashes of Pod Tales rises something new, something clever, something with a gavel: Lore and Disorder.

I walk you through why the name works, the vibe I’m chasing (dry wit, sarcasm, spooky-but-true stories), and the big plan to launch the show with ten deep-dive episodes come January. Think history, mystery, and a little “DUN DUN” energy.

Meanwhile, on the home front, Seraphina braved her first holiday club at her new school—navigating anxiety, backpack mishaps, and a rocky start with more resilience than most adults muster before coffee. Spoiler: she absolutely smashed it, and it changed the way we’re looking at her school future.

I take you on a nostalgic trip to the “Bob Shop,” where toilet rolls came in singles and video rentals never rotated stock.

Then it’s onto Tang Soo Do—my triumphant/almost-collapse return to class, where “beginner’s lesson” somehow turned into 300 kicks, 300 exercises, and my new personal vendetta against burpees.

Public transport also gets its turn in the spotlight with a week of replacement buses, including the most luxurious coach I’ve ever boarded and, the next day, possibly the most unhinged driver Manchester has ever produced. (Yes, people were literally jumping off a moving bus.)

Finally, we wrap up with a Dungeons & Dragons session where Toby ignores every clue, kicks open a booby-trapped door, and learns the hard way what a natural 1 means—earning Seraphina’s in-character declaration that I’m an “✱✱✱✱✱✱✱*.” Can’t even be mad at that.

In Hindsight, I Was Sick When I Made This
