I saw something this weekend that honestly gave me chills, in the best way.

Young people are done. Gen Z and Millennials are walking away from their screens on purpose. They’re doing digital detoxes, deleting apps, setting hard limits, all because they’re tired of feeling foggy, anxious, and lonely even when their phone says they have 300 friends. They want to think clearly again. They want to sleep through the night. Most of all, they want to look someone in the eyes and feel something real.

While the tech world keeps shouting about AI companions and virtual realities and metaverse everything, regular people are quietly craving the opposite. They want to touch grass. They want long dinners that nobody films. One report I read said that soon you’ll actually be able to hire “professional walkers,” people whose whole job is to meet you and go on a walk while you talk about life. That’s where we are.

We were never built for this much screen. God made us for real rooms, real voices, real hugs that last too long. The internet promised connection and delivered isolation wearing a smiley-face mask. The damage is everywhere now: kids who can’t focus for ten minutes, teens who cry when their phone dies because that’s where their whole social world lives, young adults who have never had someone just sit with them in silence.

This is the moment the church has been praying for, even if we didn’t know it.

Today’s students aren’t begging for another movie-clip sermon or a worship night that feels like a Coldplay concert. They’re desperate for something that feels old and true and solid. They want to sing songs that grieving widows sang a hundred years ago and still feel the same ache and the same comfort. They want to open a real Bible, paper that smells like paper, and read words that have outlived empires.

Pastors, leaders, friends: please hear this.

Stop trying to out-cool the culture. You don’t have to. The culture is exhausted from trying to be cool. Just give people Jesus. The real One. The One who touched lepers and flipped tables and washed dirty feet and said “follow me” to the biggest messes in town.

Sit with your people. Open the hymnal. Sing “Amazing Grace” like you mean it. Then open Scripture and read it slowly, out loud, like it’s the first time anyone has ever heard it. Let the room get quiet. Let the tears come. Show them that two thousand years later, this story still grabs the heart and refuses to let go.

Jesus is not boring. He is not outdated. He is better than the best filter, the funniest reel, the most immersive VR world ever built. He is alive, and when people meet Him for real, everything else starts looking like the cheap plastic it is.

The world is waking up hungry. They’re walking out of the noise looking for a table with room for them, a story big enough to live inside, a Savior worth giving their whole life to.

Church, they’re knocking. Open the door.

Life is so much better on the other side of the screen. I’ve seen it. I feel it. And I believe with everything in me that the best days are still ahead.

**LISTENER OUTLINE

**Philippians 3:12–17**

1. The Goal of the Christian Life (vv. 9–11) --RE-CAP from last week.

• Paul’s deepest desire: to know Christ—His resurrection and His sufferings.
• The prize is not heaven itself, but Christ Himself.
• Being “found in Him” is better than any righteousness we could produce.

Key truth:

Knowing Christ fuels everything else in the Christian life.

2. Pressing On: The Perseverance of the Saints (v. 12)

• We have not yet reached perfection, but we keep moving toward it.
• Like a marathon runner, the Christian keeps pressing forward.
• What matters is not the speed of the start, but the faithfulness of the finish.

Quote – Steve Farrar, Finishing Strong:

Strong men stay in Scripture, stay close to accountability, stay away from temptation, and stay alert to the enemy.

Key truth:

Saved people persevere because Christ is holding them.

3. Forward Focus: Forgetting What Lies Behind (vv. 13–14)

Paul warns against two traps:

A. Romanticizing the past

“We used to be so strong… things were better back then…”

Nostalgia can freeze people where God wants them to move forward.

B. Being crushed by the past

Failures, wounds, and sins can become stumbling blocks we never get past.

Either way, the result is the same:

We stop moving forward.

Key truth:

The Christian life is forward-focused—the goal is to know and obey Christ more deeply than yesterday.

4. Numbering Our Days (Psalm 90:12)

• Every day is a new opportunity to know Christ better.
• Wasting time looking backward weakens our effectiveness today.
• “Teach us to number our days” means:
• Live intentionally. Don’t drift. Make Christ our pursuit.

Illustration idea:

Hours until your next birthday—what will you do with them?

5. The One Thing That Matters (Psalm 27:4)

David’s one request:

• Seek the Lord
• Dwell with the Lord
• Gaze upon the beauty of the Lord

Key truth:

When we know Christ deeply, everything else—priorities, loyalties, desires—is transformed.

6. Marks of a Mature Christian (v. 15–16)

• Maturity means seeking Christ above all else.
• When we drift, God lovingly exposes it so we can repent.
• Our call: hold fast to what we’ve already attained.

Key truth:

Mature Christians keep moving forward—even if slowly.

7. The Company You Keep Shapes Your Maturity (vv. 17)

• Surround yourself with people who love Christ deeply.
• Those who chase earthly things will pull your heart that direction.
• Paul models a singular focus:
• “I resolved to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”

Key truth:

You will drift in the direction of the people you follow.

Closing Big Idea

Everything else—good or bad—must be left behind as we press forward to know Christ more deeply.

The race isn’t over.

The finish line is ahead.

And Christ is worth the pursuit.

Introduction

• We’re continuing our study through the book of Philippians.
• Last week we focused on genuine Christian fellowship and how it advances the gospel and strengthens unity in the body of Christ.
• True Christian community isn’t optional — it’s essential for every believer and every church.

This week, as we enter Philippians 3, Paul reminds us of something vital:

The gospel must be repeated often because we are quick to forget.

Like Martin Luther once said, “I preach the same message week after week because the people still haven’t learned it.”

1. Rejoicing in the Repeated Gospel (v.1)

“Whatever happens, my dear brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord. I never get tired of telling you these things, and I do it to safeguard your faith.”

Key idea:

Paul repeats the gospel to protect believers from drifting.

• Repetition is not a sign of boredom; it’s a sign of importance.
• Paul knew that the gospel must be continually preached to safeguard our faith.
• The word “safeguard” means to protect, to keep safe from danger or false teaching.

Application:

We live in a time full of spiritual distractions and false voices. Repetition of truth strengthens discernment and keeps us anchored in the gospel.

2. Beware of False Teachers (v.2)

“Watch out for those dogs, those people who do evil, those mutilators who say you must be circumcised to be saved.”

Paul doesn’t hold back.

He calls out anyone who mixes faith and works as a means of salvation.

• In his day, false teachers claimed salvation required faith plus circumcision.
• Today, false teachers might say faith plus baptism, or faith plus performance, or faith plus church membership.
• But Scripture is clear: Salvation is by grace through faith alone in Christ alone.

Supporting Scriptures:

• Ephesians 2:8–9 — “For by grace you have been saved through faith...”
• Galatians 3:3 — “After beginning by the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by the flesh?”

Application:

Trying to maintain your salvation through your own effort is not only exhausting — it’s unbiblical.

What begins in the Spirit cannot be sustained by the flesh.

3. True Transformation Happens in the Spirit (v.3)

“For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh.”

Paul explains what true faith looks like:

• We are the true circumcision — not by outward signs but by inward transformation.
• In the Old Testament, circumcision marked covenant with God.
• Now, under the new covenant, the Holy Spirit performs a spiritual circumcision — cutting away the old heart of sin and giving us new life.

Supporting Scriptures:

• Romans 2:29 — “Circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit.”
• Galatians 5:6 — “What matters is faith expressing itself through love.”

Application:

When Christ changes you, it shows.

• Your words sound different.
• Your attitude shifts.
• Your priorities change.
• You begin to love what He loves and hate what He hates.
• That’s the mark of a heart transformed by grace.

4. Living Out the Gospel Daily

Paul’s message reminds us:

• The gospel isn’t something you hear once — it’s something you live out every day.
• It protects you from deception, anchors you in truth, and shapes your character.
• The evidence of salvation isn’t religious performance; it’s a life marked by faith expressing itself through love.

Application Questions:

• Am I guarding my faith by staying rooted in the gospel?
• Do I put confidence in my own effort or in the finished work of Christ?
• Is my life reflecting the inward change the Holy Spirit has made in me?

Closing Thought

Paul repeats the gospel because eternity is at stake.

We never outgrow our need for grace.

And just like the Philippians, we need the reminder — salvation is Christ alone, by grace alone, through faith alone.

When your heart belongs to Jesus, the fruit of your life will show it.

Worship by the Spirit.

Glory in Christ Jesus.

Put no confidence in the flesh.

Just so you know, I used to hold to what’s known as Dispensationalism—specifically a Pre-Tribulation Rapture view of eschatology. But a friend once challenged me to study this topic from both a biblical and church history perspective. The short version is this: the Book of Revelation cannot mean for us today what it did not mean for the early church when John first wrote it. Therefore here is where I land now:

1. The Postmillennial Lens

Postmillennialism interprets the Book of Revelation as a message of Christ’s victory in history, not a codebook for predicting end-time technologies.

Most of the events described in Revelation — especially chapters 6–19 — are understood as first-century realities, centering on the persecution of the early church by Rome and the apostate Jewish establishment.

So, the “mark of the beast” (Revelation 13:16–18) fits within that historical and covenantal context — not as a prediction of modern technology, but as a symbol of allegiance during a time of intense persecution.

2. What the Mark Represented Then

In Revelation 13, the “mark” is described as being on the right hand or the forehead — a direct parallel to Old Testament covenant imagery:

Deuteronomy 6:6–8 — God’s law was to be bound on the hand and between the eyes, symbolizing obedience in action and thought.

The “mark of the beast” is the counterfeit of that — showing allegiance not to God, but to the beastly empire (Rome).

In the first-century world:

The “beast” represented Rome’s imperial power (and often Nero Caesar specifically).

To “receive the mark” meant to pledge loyalty to Caesar — acknowledging him as “lord” instead of Christ.

Refusing the mark often meant economic and social exclusion, as Revelation 13:17 says — they couldn’t buy or sell unless they bore that allegiance.

Thus, the “mark” was not a physical stamp or chip, but a spiritual-political declaration of loyalty: your allegiance either to Christ or to the empire.

3. What the Mark Represents Now

From a postmillennial perspective, the mark continues as a timeless principle, not a technological prophecy.

It represents:

Allegiance to any anti-Christian system that demands your worship, obedience, or moral conformity over Christ.

A person “marked” today is anyone who identifies with the world’s rebellion against God, rather than with Christ’s kingdom.

It’s not something you can accidentally receive.

It’s a matter of worship, loyalty, and worldview — who you ultimately serve and trust.

4. What About Blockchain or Modern Tech?

While blockchain, digital IDs, or AI surveillance can certainly be tools of control in ungodly systems, they are not the mark of the beast in a prophetic sense.

Technology itself is morally neutral — it’s the use and intent behind it that matter.

A postmillennial reading would say:

The “mark” is not about what’s in your hand — it’s about what your heart and mind are aligned to.

If technology ever becomes a means to enforce allegiance to anti-Christian powers (for example, being forced to deny Christ to participate in commerce), then it would functionally resemble the same principle — but not as the literal fulfillment of Revelation 13.

• Paul’s letter is written to the whole church and its leaders.
• He expresses deep thankfulness for their partnership — not just in ministry, but also in his suffering.

“So that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard…that my imprisonment is for Christ.”

• The entire Roman prison system hears the Gospel.
• Instead of complaining, Paul starts a prison ministry!
• His faith turns captivity into opportunity.
• Application:
• Stop asking, “Why me?”
• Start asking, “What can God do through me in this moment?”

4. Courage is Contagious (v.14)

“Most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.”

• Paul’s chains inspire others to be bold.
• Instead of silencing the church, persecution amplified the message.
• The same is true today:
• The persecuted church grows stronger under pressure.
• When we’re pushed down, the Gospel rises higher.

5. Mixed Motives in Ministry (vv.15–17)

A. Two Groups of Preachers

• Verse 15:
• Some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry.
• Others from goodwill and love.
• Verse 16:
• The loving group preaches from sincerity — motivated by love for Christ and support for Paul.
• Verse 17:
• The others preach from selfish ambition, hoping to make Paul’s suffering worse.

B. Lessons from This

• Some people use ministry as competition.
• Some envy other people’s success instead of celebrating it.
• But even their bad motives cannot stop the power of the Gospel.

6. True Preachers vs. False Preachers

• True preachers: Call men and women to repent — to forsake sin and trust Christ alone for salvation.
• False preachers: Avoid repentance, sell easy religion, and seek personal gain.
• Truth:
• A real Christian hates sin and fights to live a holy life.
• We don’t play with sin — we flee from it.
• “How close can I get to sin without getting burned?” is the wrong question.
• Illustration:
• Playing with sin is like asking, “How close can I get to a rattlesnake without getting bit?”
• Call to action:
• Die to self.
• Live for Christ.
• A love for Jesus and hatred for sin are signs of genuine conversion.

7. The Wrong Response to Church Hurt

• Many say, “I quit church because people hurt me.”
• If anyone could’ve said that, it was Paul — betrayed, slandered, imprisoned.
• Yet he stayed faithful and focused on the mission.

8. Paul’s Response: Rejoice Anyway (v.18)

“Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice.”

• Paul’s focus: Christ proclaimed.
• He doesn’t waste energy on bitterness or rivalries.
• His joy isn’t dependent on circumstances — it’s rooted in Christ’s glory being made known.
• Challenge:
• Can you rejoice when others get credit?
• Can you celebrate when Christ is exalted even if you’re overlooked?

9. Summary & Application

• God uses pain for progress.
• Gratitude changes every room you walk into.
• Persecution strengthens the church.
• Motives don’t stop the message — the Gospel always advances.
• Our calling:
• Repent from sin.
• Rejoice in Christ.

As I travel the country speaking to students and staff in schools, one message I emphasize repeatedly is this: ONE person can change the world.

I know this firsthand because one person changed mine.

Growing up, I attended a private school from first through eighth grade. But when I transitioned to a public high school, I was not well received. My freshman year was incredibly difficult—filled with loneliness, rejection, and uncertainty. I often tell schools across the country that I understand why kids hurt each other. Whether in school or in life, people can be mean. The way we treat one another matters. The words we speak, the kindness we show (or don’t show), and the way we acknowledge—or ignore—someone can completely shape their experience.

By the end of my freshman year, I was exhausted and discouraged. I was ready to give up. Sensing my struggle, my father sat me down and walked me through Psalm 139—reminding me that God didn’t make a mistake in creating me. He told me that I was designed for a purpose, that I was placed in my mother’s womb for a reason. His words gave me a small boost of encouragement, but it wasn’t until a guy named Andy came into my life that everything truly changed.

Andy had heard I could sing and asked if I wanted to join a band he was putting together. That simple invitation changed everything.

Before that moment, I dreaded waking up every morning. After meeting Andy, I had a reason to get out of bed. He introduced me to the other guys in the band, and suddenly, I was part of something bigger than myself. I wasn’t an outcast anymore—I belonged. That one friendship shifted my entire high school experience.

Looking back, I realize that Andy changed the room for me. And because of that, I made a decision: Everywhere I go, I want to be the person who changes the room instead of letting the room change me.

One Person Can Change Everything

Just the other night, I heard a powerful testimony that reinforced this idea—that one person can change everything.

The testimony came from a man who had spent time in prison. On his very first day in lock-up, another inmate approached him and gave him some unexpected advice:

"This place has the power to change you. It’s like a pot of boiling water."

Then he gave him three analogies:

• You can be like a carrot. The boiling water will make you soft, weak, and broken.
• You can be like an egg. The boiling water will harden you, making you bitter and cold.
• Or you can be like a coffee bean. The boiling water won’t change you—you’ll change the water.

That one piece of advice transformed his entire experience. Instead of letting prison harden or break him, he chose to be the coffee bean. Today, he’s no longer a meth dealer—he’s a multi-millionaire motivational speaker who inspires others to rise above their circumstances.

You Have the Power to Make a Difference

Never underestimate the power of your presence, your words, and your actions.

ONE person can change the world.

So, never believe the lie that you don’t matter or that you can’t make a difference. Choose to be the person who changes the room—who brings hope, encouragement, and kindness wherever you go.

Because the room doesn’t have to change you.

• Eternal Advocate = eternal security.

Application: If you are in Christ, you are called, known, and held by God.

3. The Assurance (v.1c)

“…beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ.”

• Loved by God the Father
• His love is the foundation of our calling.
• Kept for Jesus Christ
• Believers are safe and secure in Him.
• Eternal security isn’t man’s idea—it’s God’s promise.
• Warning: This only applies to true believers.
• Shallow prayers, church attendance, or “asking Jesus into your heart” ≠ true conversion.
• True salvation = repentance, faith, and surrender to Christ alone.

Application: Don’t play church—get serious about eternity.

4. The Mission of the Church (Colossians 1:28)

• Proclaim Christ — the center of all preaching.
• Warn everyone — judgment for sin is real.
• Teach maturity — help believers grow into Christlikeness.

Application:

• Assurance flows from maturity.
• Childlike faith ≠ childish faith.
• Open your Bible. Read. Obey. Grow.

5. The Danger of Neglecting the Word

• Many avoid Scripture because it confronts sin.
• Comfortable flesh resists God’s truth.
• True peace and assurance come only by:
• Making war on sin.
• Trusting Christ’s finished work on the cross.
• Walking daily in obedience to His Word.

Conclusion

• Jude begins with encouragement: called, loved, and kept in Christ.
• But this only belongs to true believers.
• Eternity is real—don’t play games with your soul.
• Main Call: Open your Bible. Trust Christ. Live as one who is called, loved, and kept.

0. The Reality of the Judgment Seat (v. 10)

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

• Not about programs or showing off ministry “success.”

• Our focus: advancing Christ’s Kingdom, not our image.

4. Willing to Be Called Crazy (v. 13–15)

• Paul was seen as extreme—so will we be if we truly live for Christ.
• The love of Christ controls us—His death changes everything.
• True disciples stop living for themselves and live for the One who died and rose again.
• Until the cross becomes personal, our lives and loyalties won’t change.

5. A New Way of Seeing (v. 16–17)

• Salvation is a total transformation—we are new creations.
• The old is gone; the new has come.

• We are reconciled to God through Christ.

Main Idea: When Christ is truly your Shepherd, you lack nothing—and life takes on a new peace, purpose, and power.

Introduction

• The “Danger” of Familiarity
• Steve Farrar calls Psalm 23 one of the most dangerous Psalms because we’ve grown too familiar with it.
• Familiarity can dull the meaning and power of God’s Word.
• Fresh Eyes: Today we’ll revisit this passage and let it cut through the routine, so it can transform our lives.

I. When Christ Is Our Shepherd, Our Desires Shift (Psalm 23:1)

• Bold Declaration: “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.”
• Not just words—this is a life posture.
• Shift in Desires: No need for worldly success, constant validation, or anxious striving.
• Reality Check: Many claim Jesus is their foundation but live in panic when trials hit.
• Sheep Analogy: Sheep are defenseless, prone to filth, and often foolish—completely dependent on their shepherd.
• Illustration: Sheep in a ditch rescued, then immediately jumping back in—just like us sometimes.
• Application: Depend fully on the Shepherd; repent quickly when you fail. (James 3:8–10)

II. The Danger of Misplaced Expectations (Psalm 23:2–3)

• In Marriage: Many love transactionally, expecting a “return” for service.
• When expectations aren’t met, frustration leads to anger, bitterness, and destruction.
• Biblical Order: When Christ is center—peace follows.
• He leads, restores, guides.

III. God Is Not Just Good in Theory—He’s Good in Practice (Psalm 23:4)

• Living Like He’s Good:
• Marriage becomes discipleship, not just maintenance.
• Parenting becomes shepherding hearts, not just correcting behavior.
• Church becomes joy, not duty.
• In Valleys: Life’s darkest moments don’t bring fear because the Shepherd is near.

IV. The Shepherd’s Presence Is Our Power (Psalm 23:4–5)

• Our Limits: We aren’t strong, wise, or patient enough—but He is.
• Order of the Shepherd’s Care:
• He leads, protects, disciplines, prepares, pursues.
• Discipline as Love: Like a shepherd breaking a wandering sheep’s leg to save it.
• Christ’s discipline means you belong to Him (Hebrews 12:6).
• Knowing His Voice (John 10:24–29): Sheep know the shepherd because they’re constantly with Him.

V. Final Challenge: Recenter Your Life on Jesus (Psalm 23:6)

• Root Problems: Marriages, joy, and peace often fail because Jesus is not at the center.
• Life-Altering Reality: “I shall not want” is not a coffee mug slogan—it’s a way of life.
• Stop placing on others what only Christ can fulfill.
• Let Christ be your Shepherd—in home, marriage, business, and daily life.

Conclusion & Invitation

• If Jesus is your Shepherd:
• Follow Him.
• Trust Him.
• Build your life on Him alone.
• Promise: “I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever” is for today—not just eternity.
• Life is better this way.
• Prayer.

Psalm 1:1-3.

1 Blessed is the man[a]

who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners,

nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

In all that he does, he prospers.

Rhett uses polished language and philosophical gaslighting to try and justify his departure from the faith. But when you peel back the layers, it’s clear: he has committed moral suicide. He’s compromised his ethics and reshaped his beliefs to fit a lifestyle and worldview that no longer wants to be held accountable to the God of the Bible. He has crafted a god in his own image—one that soothes his conscience rather than convicts his soul.

As I watched, Romans 1:22 echoed loudly in my mind: “Claiming to be wise, they became fools.”

This is what happens when someone surrounds themselves with voices that do not revere the Word of God. Rhett was elevated to celebrity status, and somewhere along the way, compromise crept in. To preserve a public image and support immoral ideologies—especially around sexuality—he had to abandon a biblical worldview. And that’s exactly what he’s done.

Make no mistake: the devil despises humanity. All he needs is a moment of distraction to plant seeds of doubt that grow into deception.

My heart breaks for Rhett. I am praying that he repents, turns back to the true and living God—King Jesus—and returns to the holiness he was called to walk in. Eternity is no small matter. The time to speak truth and call people back to the authority of Scripture is now.
