Revered course architect Alastair Mackenzie was a GP in another life and wrote in his book Spirit of St Andrews about the health benefits of prescribing golf to his patients. Almost 100 years after those words were penned a study in Scotland shows they are likely true. Dr Frank Sullivan of the University of St Andrews joins episode 158 to discuss the trial which saw more than 50% of those 'prescribed' golf as treatment returning positive reviews.

It's been six weeks since the golf course in the small country town of Dunedoo in NSW was severely damaged in a vandalism attack. This week we turn away from the US Open at Torrey Pines to get an update on the remarkable generosity that has seen Dunedoo start the journey to recovery with Club President Mark Gallagher and GM Ricky Bush. The third men's major of the year does get some air time but in typical Good Good fashion not in the way you'd think.

Chalmers was in the field last time a major was played here in 2012 and well remembers just what a nasty experience the Pete Dye creation can be. Unlike nine years ago, though, this week he is hoping the course bares its teeth and gives the best in the world an examination like the game hasn't seen for some time.

Ep 31: Weaning Golf Off Plastic

Many outside the game see golf as - at best - a negative for the environment and there is no doubt the game has some significant questions to answer about issues such as water and chemical use. But there is another - mostly hidden - way that golf is less than environmentally friendly and it comes in the form of the humble golf tee. The predominantly plastic or hardwood device millions of golfers use to begin almost every hole they play is actually a needlessly damaging piece of equipment and this week's Good Good guest is doing something about it. Ed Sandison formed his company Ocean Tee Golf in 2018 with the aim of reducing the use of plastic tees and instead replacing them with a bamboo version. Having had some success, the company has now begun manufacturing apparel with plans to expand even further.
