In such situations we all need hope. We long for things to come back to “normality “ but it’s often in going through great suffering and threat that we find the courage to become bringers of hope to others.

Comfort, ease and security are incredibly seductive and Bev shows from the life of Esther that our empathy should go out to all people groups.

Indeed, this question strikes at the heart of what makes the empty tomb so significant. It reminds us that Jesus was not just a historical figure who lived and died like any other. He was, and is, the living Son of God, who conquered death and rose victorious from the grave. The empty tomb is a powerful symbol of this truth, and it continues to inspire and challenge us today.

Nobody expected “no body” but Jesus grave was empty on that first Easter Sunday morning. 

John shares resurrection stories and invites us to identify with those who met the risen Jesus. 

Let this message of hope sink in - if you are unsure or disbelieve, know that God is not mad with you, God is mad about you and has shown this in Jesus 

Like the mocking thief, we also often think God has let us down as he allowed some sickness or evil. Like the repentant thief we have the opportunity to enter paradise even though we don’t deserve it. Like millions of others who have trusted that Jesus, on the cross, took the punishment for our sin, we can find our true worth in God, experiencing the divine exchange that happened on the cross.

Through repentance we can receive his grace instead of vengeance or justice, divine favour instead of rejection, and real life and love instead of hatred and death. 

It is a banquet of love that he invites us to. In fact Murray Avril points out that the practice of hospitality is all through scripture and reaches a climax in the “last supper”, commemorated by us in communion and in receiving the salvation that is ours in the body and blood of Jesus. 

It is Gods plan that we offer Gods feast of love and forgiveness to those around us - to even go to the roads and countryside to call people to this banquet of love and grace. Build trust. Invite those who need salvation.

She talks about this passage as a “call to arms”. Evil is the enemy. Evil personified in humans destroys the life of humans. God’s armour is essential in this battle- a battle which was won in Christ by his resurrection power.

This enables us to have an assurance of victory. The captives are being set free. The broken are being healed.

giving examples of what justice is not, Pastor Sue explores the story of the woman caught in adultery found in John 8.

From international relations to our interpersonal relationships Sue applies biblical principles to Gods call on Christians to bring light into the world in the form of spiritual warfare - salvation and a repentant life of humble reliance on God.

She concludes that we need to trust in the saving grace of Jesus - no pretence, just accepting Jesus our advocate and rejecting the kingdom of darkness.

It is what it means to be a “disciple” - a committed follower of Jesus. Sue explains how this foundation begins - with repentance and faith which are the beginning of Christian character and of real, fulfilling life (as opposed to rule following life). You don’t do to become - you do because you are!

Storms will come to everyone and Sue outlines how we can put the words, works and ways of Jesus into practice in our own life, giving practical examples of how we can prosper and “reign” in life.

Tim suggests that these have led the world again to the geo-political problem of famine.

He suggests that humility is a foreign value in this increasingly secular nation and that we need to understand the times in which we live as Christians.

For our PM message at Steel River this week, we have one of our Maitland Campus Pastors Phillip Cosgrove come and preach as we get closer to the end of The Book of Matthew.

Sue explains how nothing we can do ourselves can lead to salvation. Anyone who preaches anything other than the cross of Christ as the way of salvation is a “sheep in wolves clothing “ Sue states.

She outlines what the “fruit of our salvation “ looks like - the “fruit of the Spirit”.

Bev begins with Adam and Eve’s expulsion from the Garden to explain how shame, fear and rejection have become shapers of what we need and desire.

She uses biblical, historical, relaxant and personal examples to show how the corruption of human nature has caused our asking, seeking and knocking to often become shaped by the patterns and culture and thinking of this world.

What is the answer to this dilemma?

This message will explain the call upon believers to reject both the world and Christendom, embracing instead an intimacy with Jesus which changes us and empowers our prayers.

Christians are definitely called to wise discernment and to make decisions based on the guidance of God’s Word and the Spirit’s prompting. However, Sue points out that our judgement of others, which is often based on our own imperfect views of what is important in life, or on presumptions about people’s motives, can mask our own failings - the “plank in our own eye”.

Rather, she encourages us to allow God to do surgery on our own hearts and remove our “plank”, and she teaches us how to remove a “speck”!

Josh speaks an amazing sermon at our Steel River & Maitland Campus on how Jesus knows that we are going worry with things like food, clothing, accomodation but wants us to have a complete perspective shift in how we think of things as Jesus sees us as more valuable than we think.

What do you worry about when you wake up?

In unpacking these verses Sue looks holistically at our human condition - the real inner you. 

Rather than telling us “just don’t worry “ Jesus speaks of the value of human individuals to God. Sue concludes that if we truly understand and experience Gods love for us, responding by seeking Gods kingdom first, we will not need to worry as God meets your deepest needs. 

What Asher teaches us in this weeks AM message at our Steel River Campus is that first need reflect and ask ourselves, what are the desires of our heart?.

Second, we are to surrender our desires and trade them with the desires of God's heart

Finally, we are to be transformed to love like God loves.

Sue encourages us to be filled with God’s Spirit, experience God’s love and value in Jesus, and live out that fullness in joyful love of others. The reward will be a profound and palpable sense of God’s acceptance, esteem and regard.

We will then not crave the esteem of the world and won’t live that out in showy behaviour living out of an empty live tank. Instead we will be givers and bringers of justice, dignity and value to others.

He gives a key to an overflowing and abundant life. It goes beyond appearance management to heart change. Fulfilling the desires of our own heart in our own way will be destructive to a thriving in life. Allowing God to renew our hearts, leads us to become a free, peaceable, loving person.

He goes on to say that he didn't come to get rid of the old laws but to shift our perspective

In this week's AM message, Theo preaches that Jesus taught that the Bible is true, that it is meant to belived in obedience, and that Jesus shows us how to obey the Bible (through the lens of Jesus).

Likewise in the historical setting of the Gospel of Matthew, a difficult time for the Jews, Jesus brought a whole new perspective on the kingdom of God. It involved rejoicing in the face of persecution. It involved influencing the flavour and perspectives of our world. Don’t give up on the world and don’t blend in. Be a true influencer, flowing from your intimacy with Jesus.

She talks about how when all 10 lepers got healed, only the Samaritan came back to ask for forgiveness from Jesus.

National or international peace. They can be based on false peace - just don’t care. They can be based on avoidance - escapism into different soul soothing endeavours. They can be based on forced peace - ending conflict by force. None of these result in real, lasting peace.

In our Easter PM service, Josh explains the source of real, lasting, fixed peace, peace and its ultimate expression as God’s “shalom”. You can’t have the peace which comes from the “Prince of peace” without radical obedience to his rule.

As we get closer to Easter, we remember how Jesus came to save us which is why he came on a donkey which means "arrival in peace" and not on a horse like a war-waging king

In this setting the Hodge family have brought the gospel message- sharing thelove of God and the forgiveness found in Jesus, which can set even the hardest and most burdened of hearts free.

She tells stories of first hand experiences of violence and vitriolic behaviour into which God intervened and brought a peace which shows he is the King of Creation and the Lord of Liberty.

Sue asks us who we identify with in this story and encourages us to analyse the thoughts of our own hearts, keeping our eyes focused on Jesus and on bringing ourselves and others to Jesus in faith, hope and boldness based on God’s mercy.

Jesus’ death and resurrection was not all about “good advice” and Sue explores being “born again” as an entry point into a new adventure with God which transforms all of life. Centering our focus on what it means to love as God loves us.

Sue calls us to be known by our love, and to repent of the ugly ways we have presented who God is to a world in dire need of his love.

From John 3:16 Asher explains who Jesus is and why he came to earth - not for a holiday but for a rescue mission. He came to save us from ourselves, and that is exciting as we could never have rescued ourselves. Using a modern day parable of an asteroid hitting the earth, Asher explains how, when a person becomes aware of what they have been rescued from, the celebration takes on a whole new depth.

The gospel (good news) is built into the Christmas story and if you want some real meaning in your Christmas, this is where you will find it.

The first Christmas was a surprise to everyone who experienced it. For several centuries God had stopped speaking to his Chosen People through his prophets. But something else was happening. The prophetic message was being renewed, transmitted by angels and prophets. To Mary. To Joseph. To Elizabeth and Zechariah. To Simeon. To Wise Men and Shepherds.

Are we hearing God speak to us or have we lost connection? Today is the time for the church to renew our commitment, our connection and our transmission of the music of Gods love to a lost and dark world.

This week's bible verse is from Philippians 4:6-7 and this message applies these to the common anxieties Australians are facing. We are encouraged to do our part in overcoming anxiety, but also to place our faith in God by prayer and thanksgiving. The result is an overflow of God’s amazing peace in our lives.

From the gospels, using three short stories, Jake shows just how relatable and receptive to our prayers God is:
