Giles was inspired to create the play after learning about the resilience and strength of the enslaved Africans on the ship who fought back. In this candid chat Terera talks about the importance of understanding Great Britain's historical past in order to move forward positively. This February, Cameron’s play Typical will make its world premiere on Soho Theatre On Demand.

Based on the early years of the critically acclaimed and award-winning author Alex Wheatle, this film focuses on Alex's time in care, prison and then how he found his home in the Brixton community.

Author of iconic books such as East of Acre Lane, Brixton Rock and more recently Cane Warriors Alex is renowned for his documenting of British Black life. He was also a consultant on the Small Axe series.

Newcomer actor Sheyi Cole landed the opportunity to play Alex in this Small Axe anthology.

A pioneer of Dub Poetry Zephaniah has rubbed shoulders with black icons Bob Marley, Nelson Mandela and more.

The South Bank Show returned for a new series and will feature Zephaniah in conversation with the host Melvyn Bragg about his life and work, and reveals how his troubled youth inspired him to channel his energies into poetry – and how, in his words, poetry saved his life. He also performs a selection of his poems, exclusively for the South Bank

Zephaniah also has a new book 'The Windrush Child' described as a heart-stopping adventure based on real historical events.

Lastly Zephaniah has hosted the first ever Spoken Word sTV show, Life & Rhymes for Sky Arts.

Adrian is a scriptwriter/producer/director and co-owner of indie production company Mellow9 Productions. He's written 4 shorts, two of which he produced. He was also one of the writers of the feature film Victim (2011). Under Mellow 9 he directed the critically acclaimed documentary Trial By Fire: The Terry Dunnage Story.

More recently Adrian has set up an Indiegogo campaign to raise finances for Time & Technology which features short films RelaSinkShip, Phone Play, and Black Knives Matters on which he worked with award-winning filmmakers Ethosheia Hylton and Shantelle Rochester.

  This August, tiata fahodzi released the film adaptation of ‘good dog’. Directed by Andrew Gillman and Natalie Ibu, the film chronicles growing up in a multicultural community in the early noughties, and the everyday injustices that drive people to take back control.

  We caught up with Natalie to chat about ‘good dog’, the impact of lockdown on the theatre industry and how theatres can take a more effective anti-racist stance.

She has also starred in popular TV shows including Doctors, Call the Midwife and Lenny Henry's autobiographical TV film Danny and the Human Zoo.

  King Hedley II is set in 1985 and forms part of African American playwright August Wilson's Pittsburgh Cycle, a series of plays that documents the African American experience in each decade of the 20th century. Other works in the Pittsburgh Cycle include Fences (adapted into a film starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis) and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.   Actress Cherrelle Skeete's acting CV includes A Small Place (Gate Theatre) and Fun Home (Young Vic). In 2017 Skeete played Rose Granger-Weasley in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Palace Theatre) in a groundbreaking colourblind casting move. She has also starred in popular TV shows including Doctors, Call the Midwife and Lenny Henry's autobiographical TV film Danny and the Human Zoo. 

  If that wasn't enough Skeete also co-founded Blacktress UK, a networking group for black women actors of the African diaspora. The collective just enjoyed a run of productions at the Tristan Bates Theatre.

  Created and starring Daniel Lawrence Taylor, the first series was the most watched new comedy in 2017 for 16-24’s on any digital channel in the UK.

  This time around our time-travelling jazz band are transported to 1950’s London where the future has arrived: the birth of the teenager, slick-haired Teddy Boys, the vibrant Windrush crowd, box-fresh televisions and - crucially - the dawn of Rock n’ Roll. 

  All the band are back for another spin through time in series two: Daniel Lawrence Taylor (Cockroaches, Uncle) plays Nick, Kadiff Kirwan (Chewing Gum, Crims) plays Jason, Adelayo Adedayo (Skins, Some Girls) as Lauren and Samson Kayo (Famalam, The Javone Prince Show) as Horace.

  Marianne Jean-Baptiste has been quietly chipping away at her impressive acting career for a couple of decades now.

  Showing as part of this year's BFI London Film Festival, In Fabric, directed by Peter Strickland is 'a haunting ghost story set against the backdrop of a busy winter sales period in a department store, following the life of a cursed dress as it passes from person to person, with devastating consequences'.

  ]]>Chizzy Akudolu has been a regular on British screens since 2012 in Holby City. Akudolu's Maureen "Mo" Effanga joined in 2012 as a surgical registrar who was promoted to consultant Cardiothoracic and transplant surgeon.
