The Horus Heresy Dropsite Massacre (2025) by John French, performed by Jonathan Keeble. There will be spoilers.

Dropsite Massacre is a love letter to fans of the Horus Heresy saga, featuring many different characters and factions, following the reveal of Horus' betrayal against the Imperium. This novel follows the Primarchs and their legions, alternating between the traitors and the loyalists sent to end their treachery. What ensues is a storm of violence that will shake the brotherhoods of the Astartes forevermore.

March's Book Club will be a classic. 'Helsreach' (2010) by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, performed also by Jonathan Keeble. The novel follows Grimaldus of the Black Templars' defiant defense through the Third War for Armageddon.

Da Red Gobbo is synonymous with the fires of 'revolushun' which stir in certain Grots' hearts. Whether called to action by the oppression of da Ork bosses or by the need to lead their fellow twits in defiance of an overwhelming enemy, Da Red Gobbo is not one entity but a figurehead adopted by many a Grot.

This was definitely the most 'fun' we have had with a Warhammer novel. Our next Book Club will be a bit more serious with The Horus Heresy: Dropsite Massacre, written by John French, released in 2025.

These Phoenix Lords include Asurmen and his disciples from the earliest days of The Fall, where he taught Jain Zar, Fuegan, Baharroth, Maugan Ra, Lhykis and more the ways of warfare and how to defend the Aeldari people. On the tabletop, the Phoenix Lords and their Aspect Warriors form an elite backbone of an Aeldari force, and even receive their own suite of tailored rules known as the Aspect Host detachment.

We return to Chaos with a comprehensive look at Vashtorr the Arkifane, Architect of the Arks of Omen, and ruler of the Forge of Souls. He is Chaos's weapons dealer - he plays all sides of the conflict within the warp, bartering with each of the Four to create their daemon engines and other infernal weaponry. He has established a sense of order within his growing domain, as industry and creation in the material realm empower him in his quests for pantheon ascension. Upon the tabletop, Vashtorr wreaks havoc against his opponent's machinery, as well as seriously buffing nearby daemon engines.

Fifth on the roster is Ahzek Ahriman, at one time Magnus' the Red's favoured son, and most promising prodigy. A rampant mutation would plague the Thousand Sons since their inception, and after making a deal with Tzeentch to save the legion from the Space Wolves and their assault during the Horus Heresy, the legion would be doomed. As this mutation increased, Ahriman sought a cure - a magical antitode he would name The Rubric. The ways of Tzeentch would reveal themselves as The Rubric would change the mutated into dust, animating their armour as soulless beings. Ahriman would spend the rest of his life seeking to correct his mistake, along the way gaining power beyond that of any mortal psyker throughout the galaxy.

The Flayed Ones are Necrons lost to the Flayer Virus - the death knell curse of the C'tan Llandu'gor the Flayer. Likened to Zombies, Flayed Ones stalk the battlefields of Warhammer 40,000 to feed an insatiable hunger. On the tabletop, they have but a single unit, so we, Joshy and Jonny, thought, "But what if there were more?"

The C'tan are primordial. They are the beginning. They were the great Star Gods whose patrons were the Necrontyr, and were also their undoing. The Necrontyr were saved by way of becoming the unliving Necron. They would be deceived, and they would have their revenge.

A first for us, a LitRPG, or literary role-playing game, combines the qualities of a role-playing game (think Dungeons & Dragons) with a fantasy novel. The result? Joshy and Jonny review the likely final codex of Warhammer 40,000's '10th Edition' - Codex: Drukhari.

This faction is the setting's equivalent to a fantasy "Dark Elf" The Drukhari are sadistic raiders, riding out from their Dark City to enslave and butcher all, so that they may stave off their own demise at Slaanesh's hands. On the tabletop, the Drukhari are at baseline the fastest group of units, excelling at rapidly disembarking from, slaughtering their foe, and re-embarking into transports as hit-and-run specialists.

While their range may be slim in recent times, and with models approaching an outdated aesthetic, we had a lot of fun exploring their rules and determining ways to use every unit and engage with the factions in several detachments. We even discuss Harlequins, the Reaper's Wager, Legends units, and Crusade.

• Gabriel Seth, the chapter master of the Flesh Tearers, is a total badass, leading his chapter with a fierce determination and a penchant for violence.
• The Flesh Tearers have a notorious reputation for their bloodthirstiness, often leading to chaotic battles where they sometimes attack Imperial forces instead of enemies.
• Seth's leadership style is all about embracing the chaos of war while trying to maintain some semblance of honour for his chapter, which is a delicate balancing act.
• During the Third War for Armageddon, the Flesh Tearers were so savage that even Orks labelled them as 'Eaters of the Dead,' which says a lot about their ferocity.
