Recently, 900 people came to a community meeting where—for the first time—the gospel was shared in a way they could truly understand: through simple stories and personal testimonies. Nearly everyone responded, saying they wanted to follow Jesus.

Hearts, lives, and entire lifestyles are being transformed. Lies are being exposed, freedom is being found, and light is replacing darkness. Our bodyguard even had a vision of angels covering the gathering as protection—God’s presence was undeniable.

1. Daniel’s Story:

A boy suffering from seizures and unable to speak was rejected and beaten by his community, who believed he was demon-possessed. The Social Welfare Department asked ORR to intervene. ORR’s Country Director and his wife took the boy into foster care, naming him Daniel. Just six weeks later, Daniel began to speak—marking the beginning of his healing journey. The story emphasizes that knowing our identity and value in God changes everything.

2. The Baby Girl:

While talking with local women about child trafficking, Rebecca encountered a critically underweight baby girl (4.7 lbs at 8 months old). Although tempted to rush her to the hospital, Rebecca felt prompted to find a different way—one that empowered the community rather than creating dependency.

Go into the audience and there is a child that grabs my attention. God rips my heart apart for the life of the child in front of me.

A young girl abandoned by her mother, was left to care for her 7-month-old brother while enduring abuse and harsh treatment from her aunt. She was forced to handle household chores, care for her cousins, and faced neglect and hunger. Orphan Relief and Rescue intervened, enrolling her in their program to ensure her safety while investigating her situation and searching for her mother. This case is part of a broader mission, including past rescues that have freed children from abuse and trafficking, impacting dozens of lives. Thanks to the organization’s efforts, Rose is now on the path to safety and protection.

Confession in community brings freedom by breaking the power of sin when it’s brought into the light. In the area we serve, there’s a struggle between gods, similar to Daniel 6, but chiefs and villagers are seeing that Jesus Christ is victorious. Despite daily curses on our staff, Jesus always prevails.

This trip focused on ensuring open communication with village chiefs to protect staff and safely share the message of Jesus. The Country Director emphasized the importance of spreading hope, particularly in a village where 35 children were recently rescued. Rebecca encouraged families to bring children back home, offering support through their program.

Chief’s of the village want to

learn more of Jesus because of the Almighty Power of God. Currently there are

so many religions intertwined in their practice and they are asking for more

knowledge about the God of love. The staff sharing said the speakers would not

be cursed because we want our community to hear about Jesus.

God calls us to pray for His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Through prayer, we hold incredible power to make an impact. Prayer can change lives, circumstances, and destinies, as evidenced by biblical heroes like Moses, Esther, and Daniel, and by modern testimonies of healings and transformations. A local staff member’s unwavering faith reminded me to pray with expectation, trusting that God answers prayers daily. This challenged me to deepen my faith and believe in God’s ability to work powerfully through prayer.

In this week’s episode, Rebecca shares a miraculous story of financial provision for ORR's safe home through a Holocaust survivor who was "paying it forward." She survived the Holocaust by serving in a convent in Switzerland. After the war, she was given a small stipend to begin a new life. Instead of living off the money, she invested it for the purpose of protecting others. Years later ORR was the beneficiary of her generosity.

Acts of compassion not only bless others but also bring spiritual fulfillment and peace as highlighted in in Isaiah 58:10-11.

What motivates you to do what you do?

Deb Baliko, ORR’s Communications and Event Manager, shares that her love for her coworkers and the people ORR’s serves motivates her to do her work.

In 2004, Deb encountered spiritual opposition—rituals, curses, and an overwhelming sense of darkness. That night, intense nightmares and a dark spiritual attack occurred, but through faith in Jesus and reliance on the Holy Spirit, Deb found deliverance and peace.

The experience reaffirmed the power of faith and the victory of Jesus over ll things – even life and death.

The biggest takeaway from this trip was a powerful reminder from the Lord: her spiritual gifts are not gone, even while raising three young children. This experience provided her with the opportunity to reconnect with and actively use those gifts once more.

25. Protecting Children through Partnership with Police and Social Welfare

During a recent trip to West Africa, we witnessed the incredible impact of ORR's Community Freedom Centers in four major villages. These centers host educational gatherings and meals, bringing together the community, police, and social welfare officials to discuss abuse and its legal consequences. Many in the community lack awareness of what constitutes abuse, so these meetings shed light on troubling issues like child marriage, domestic violence, harmful rituals, and trafficking. Attendees were encouraged to report such incidents, with punishments ranging from 6 months to 20 years in prison.

The partnership between the police and social welfare office is growing stronger, ORR acts as a bridge, connecting professionals with the community to foster engagement and education. Additionally, discussions were held on sustaining ORR’s Savings and Loan program to further support the villages.

One inspiring story came from a fifth village, where 35 children were rescued from trafficking. A 10-year-old girl, previously forced to sell goods on dangerous streets, was reunited with her mother and enrolled in school through ORR. She is now safe, fed, and has a chance at a brighter future. Stories like hers highlight the transformative work ORR is doing to protect and empower children.

Fatu's Miraculous Journey: A Life Transformed

Fatu's story is a miraculous testimony of faith and transformation. On her deathbed, in a coma and pregnant with tumors, she had a vision of her body wrapped in chains and Jesus standing in the room. He promised to set her free if she committed her life to Him. After saying "yes" in her mind, she saw the chains break off from her body. She woke up, vomited out her tumors, and began singing, “He touched me, He touched me, now that joy fills my soul.”.

Her husband, who had returned with a coffin assuming to find his wife dead, saw her singing in a chair and thought she was an angel. He witnessed her miraculous recovery and gave his life to Jesus as well. There was a supernatural shift. When she was resurrected, she had a supernatural impartation of love for others. Together, they converted their bar into a church to share the miracle and love of Jesus to anyone who would listen.

During the Civil War, Fatu cared for 85 orphaned children she found in the forest. Her story is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late for hope or transformation, and she continues serving the Lord today with a heart full of compassion.

Personal Application:

God has given us one life and free will to live it. Matthew 10:39 reminds us that clinging to our own life leads to loss, but surrendering it for Christ brings true fulfillment. Shifting our focus from ourselves to loving and honoring others transforms our souls.

23. Songs of Deliverance: Developing Our Anti-Trafficking Program

Summary:

ORR's Anti-trafficking Program was started to combat child trafficking and poverty in partnership with a local judge. Originally the jude requested ORR build more safe homes to protect the 5-12 children he was rescuing everyday, but we couldn't build enough safe homes to protect these kids. Instead, we were giving written permission by the judge to discover how to curb poverty to address the root causes of trafficking. A team pastors and translators was hired to learn from the community and not reveal they were Christian, as the area was 95% voodoo-practicing and resistant to Christianity. Over six months, they learned families trafficked children due to extreme poverty. Solutions included: $20 to outfit kids for school, a feeding program, which kept children in school, and a micro-loan program, helping women start businesses to support their families. This approach transformed communities, with parents no longer needing to sell their children. One woman shared that before our arrival, their only business was selling their children. But now, thanks to our efforts, they no longer face that heartbreaking choice. Instead, their livelihood comes from selling a variety of consumable goods. The program’s success is attributed to practical support combined with the motivation of learning about a God of love, leading even former traffickers to come to know Jesus and become advocates for change. The judge was amazed by the results, as other NGOs tried to do what we are doing, but did not succeed.

Luciana and Pedro Bartes have been in the Puget Sound airwaves for more than 20 years. They started at the turn of the century doing a show from 2 to 6 am on 89.9 FM KGRG, Green River College student-run radio station, but it didn’t take them long to start working in commercial radio. They hosted shows on Salem Media Seattle’s Spanish station, Radio Sol for a couple of years. They then moved on to produce radio shows in English, like Radio-Hall-of-Famer Bob Rivers’ show for 8 years, and the Marty and Jodi show for 6. Pedro then moved back to Salem Media Seattle as Program Director for KGNW and KKOL while producing Live from Seattle. Luciana took a break from radio and went on to become a Spanish medical interpreter, but her love for radio brought her back to Salem Media Seattle. 2023 finds them hosting another show together, The Sound of the Puget Sound.

Rebecca shares how ORR works with 31 staff members and grassroots partnerships to create meaningful change. One of their success stories is Albert, a boy once labeled deaf and dumb by his community and discarded. ORR took him in through their Foster Care program, discovering he simply had a tongue tie, which was treated. Now a teenager, Albert excels academically and thrives, a powerful example of ORR's impact.

20. Three Siblings on the Brink of Death Find New Life

Three young siblings (ages 5, 3, and 2) were left to fend for themselves after losing their parents and grandmother. Rejected by their community and subjected to abuse, they struggled to survive, with the 5-year-old managing to find food daily to keep her siblings alive. ORR's child monitor discovered their situation, and although it took a month for legal approval to move them to our safe home, ORR provided immediate help by providing extra food for a neighbor to cook for the children as well as her own family in the interim. This case highlights the neglect orphans face, with the community often deeming them cursed because their parents died. Even the mayor shared that when an orphan dies no one traces the cause of death because they don't belong to anyone.

Fear often stems from a lack of faith in. God and understanding of God's character, but seeking Him wholeheartedly allows us to overcome it and live with purpose. Each year, kids from ORR's Safe Home visit their villages, sharing Jesus' love, praying over meals, and for the healing of neighbors and family. The love of Jesus motivates me in my work to combat human trafficking, a reality I didn't fully grasp until witnessing it firsthand. Meeting a teenage boy whose mother justified trafficking her children as part of her upbringing was a shocking and eye-opening experience. It's heartbreaking to see such cycles, but seeing rescued children smile, find hope, and embrace God's love is truly rewarding.

One powerful testimony involved a boy who witnessed his father kill his mother and later forgave him after years of counseling and prayer. He even wrote a beautiful worship song thanking God for his love and protection.

Never Underestimate What God Can Do

Summary:

Through reflection on personal faith and trust in God, we are reminded of His ability to work miracles through what we already possess. A mother in ORR’s Savings and Loan Program returned from the capital city to the heartbreaking discovery that her brother had sold her children to a neighboring country. Undeterred, she fought relentlessly to bring them back. The uncle who betrayed her trust was able to retrieve the children and return them safely. Justice prevailed as the uncle was held accountable and prosecuted for his actions.

8. Learning to Hear God's Voice

Rebecca favorite thing is for people to be awakened to hear the voice of the Lord. In preparation for the new year, take 1-hour to ask yourself the following questions:

1. God, What Do You Think about Me?

Write down the first things that come to mind. If they are condemning thoughts, they are not from the Lord. If they are beautiful words, they are from the Lord. This is not a time that God will give you disciplinary words, but rather a time for God to share how He feels about you. Ignore the 2nd thought of you disputing that you heard from the Lord. Ignore the 3rd thought from the enemy telling you that you did not hear from God.

Spend some time thanking God for what He has done for you and sharing with the Lord what you love about Him.

2. Is there anything that I feel is hindering me from living the life I know God has intended for me to live in this season?

3. What do I feel God wants me to do about it?

4. Ask the Lord for a word for the New Year (you may get a scripture, a quote, or a song).

You can the answer to someone’s prayer!

Summary:

The children in our program were praying for a miracle to be rescued. If we didn’t listen to God these kid’s miracles would not have taken place. We get to be the answer to their prayers.

One story stands out: a 14-year-old girl, forced into a harrowing existence as one of nine wives. Every night, she prayed for God to give her a way to escape. After three long months, her prayers were answered, and she found her freedom.

Without the help of organizations like ORR, many of these children would not have survived. This work is a true partnership with God, a calling to fulfill His perfect will. We don’t have to have all the answers ourselves. Instead, we can bring their needs to the Lord, trusting Him to provide guidance and solutions. Together, we are part of something miraculous.

Looking around at the malnourished children, a sobering thought came to Rebecca, “What if these were my own biological children and I was dead? What if someone with the power to relieve their pain walked by and saw my babies suffering like this yet chose to do nothing? If possible, I would cry from my grave a big, ‘Shame on you for not helping my babies!’ Overwhelmed with emotion, I felt God remind me of the unique future and value He has for each child, including little Gifty in my arms.”

After returning to America and having six months of sleepless nights, it became clear to Rebecca that Orphan Relief and Rescue would focus on helping children in the most dire and neglected circumstances, providing intervention to save lives, bring justice, and alleviate suffering.

2. How ORR’s Anti-Trafficking Program Began

Summary:

“Rebecca, I have 18 children. My husband’s other wife died, and I have inherited her children. I have already trafficked 6 children, and I will have to traffic 5 more because I cannot feed them.”

Our anti-trafficking work started with a judge seeking safe places for rescued children to prevent them from returning to their traffickers. The judge gave legal permission for our Anti-trafficking team to get to know the community —understanding their needs. Through six months of listening to the community, we identified solutions to prevent trafficking: enrolling children in school, providing two daily meals, and supporting parents with Savings and Loan programs to start businesses to provide for their families.
