One year ago today, Rose Hawk (AKA @RoRoMuffins) joined us to share her entrance into the Star Wars fandom when she, two months earlier, watched (& reacted to) the franchise for the first time. Since then her Star Wars fandom has grown and she has watched not just the Lucas Trilogies (The Original Trilogy & The Prequel Trilogy) but also the Sequel Trilogy, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi the first 2 seasons of Clone Wars as well as a ton of other franchises.

Rose shares how her fandom has evolved, why Andor is a good entry point for new fans, her favorite star ship, her first light saber, and how the galaxy far, far away has completely transformed her life!

This week we chat what Mitch & Bailey meant to us, our adventures at Emerald City Comic Con and our Star Wars fan on the Street interviews with attendees! Using real reviews from the time of release and infamous internet comments we see if the same could be said about A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi. Is there clunky dialogue? Wooden acting? A "Mary Sue"? Can some of the harshest critique actually describe the holy trinity of trilogies?

Christopher Giroux’s career spans a multitude of productions, genres and over 50+ feature films.

A 2009 Sheridan graduate in the Advanced TV and Film program, Giroux moved quickly up the industry ladder, producing 10 back-to-back high concept genre features with Black Fawn Films and Breakthrough Entertainment.

Giroux is the former SVP of Production at Vortex Media from June 2023 - July 2025. In recent years he has produced and overseen production on such films as The Christmas Charade, Christmas Island, Learning To Love Again, Take Me Back For Christmas, The End of Sex, Anything For Jackson, The Voices of Her Mother, and the 2022 official TIFF selection, The End of Sex.

Giroux's produced work has aired on Netflix, The Hallmark Channel, Lifetime, UPtv, Paramount+, Super Channel, W Network, Prime Video, Tubi, Roku, BBC, Shudder, Showtime, Hollywood Suite, Diva-Romania, TF1, StackTV, Hallmark+, Crave and more.

In addition to Giroux’s production work, he is also a member of The Producer’s Roundtable of Ontario. He was awarded a Certified Fresh Trophy from Rotten Tomatoes for producing Anything For Jackson (2020), and has received two Canadian Screen Award nominations, for his work on Christmas Island (2023) & Take Me Back For Christmas (2023).

Currently Giroux is the President of the not-for-profit, The Hamilton Film Board (2025).

I am a public historian and author who specialises both in transnational experiences of warfare and modern media representations of history; predominantly computer games and the Star Wars franchise. I received my PhD from the University of Sussex in 2013 where my thesis examined relations between British and French soldiers during the First World War. I have taught and lectured on war, conflict, and European history at a wide assortment of universities. I am currently the President for the International Society for First World War Studies and a Senior Research Fellow for the Centre for Army Leadership, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. I am also a series editor for the De Gruyter academic book series ‘Video Games and the Humanities‘ and a co-presenter on ‘Oh! What a Lovely Podcast‘ which explores the portrayal of the First World War in popular culture and media.

The Forest Moon Festival grew out of a passion for film and love of our beautiful region, and all it has to offer. It began with the vision of the Humboldt • Del Norte Film Commission, to embrace one of the great film franchises of all time, STAR WARS and it's choice to cast our region as the Forest Moon of Endor-- the home of the Ewoks, some 40 years ago! ​ Our hope is that by inviting fans of all ages to come see the stunning filming locations featured in STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI and attend screenings of the film, it will also give them a chance to discover all the Redwood Coast has to offer in natural beauty, hospitality, arts, and culture. Marc Thompson is an American voice actor who has worked for Konami Cross Media NY, NYAV Post and DuArt Film and Video. His most well-known role was in MTV's Daria (1997–2002), where he voiced numerous male characters including Kevin Thompson, Anthony DeMartino, and Timothy O'Neill. He is notable for voicing the titular character in Robocar Poli. He voices Casey Jones in the 2003 version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons and video games; and is also the voice of Tepig, Primeape, Gliscor, Krookodile, and Gengar in the Pokémon television series. He is the narrator of numerous Star Wars audio books including the Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi series. He earned his BFA from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 1997.

I am a public historian and author who specialises both in transnational experiences of warfare and modern media representations of history; predominantly computer games and the Star Wars franchise. I received my PhD from the University of Sussex in 2013 where my thesis examined relations between British and French soldiers during the First World War. I have taught and lectured on war, conflict, and European history at a wide assortment of universities. I am currently the President for the International Society for First World War Studies and a Senior Research Fellow for the Centre for Army Leadership, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. I am also a series editor for the De Gruyter academic book series ‘Video Games and the Humanities‘ and a co-presenter on ‘Oh! What a Lovely Podcast‘ which explores the portrayal of the First World War in popular culture and media.

Charles Ross was born in the town of Prince George, in British Columbia, Canada. Later, his family moved to Nelson, a gorgeous little place featured in the movie Roxanne. Nelson is where he first discovered the theatre. HIs drama teachers saved his sanity. Acting gave him a place to focus his energy. He studied theatre at the University Victoria’s Theatre program, in the pre-internet wastelands of the 1990’s. Since then his career has been happily writing, performing and touring solo shows. The legions fans of Tolkien and Star Wars, who’ve attended my One Man Star Wars and One Man Lord of the Rings, has enriched his life with their own sense of community. He’s toured the globe since 2002, sharing his frenetic, frequently nerdy creations with audiences of every stripe. Fandom is a community, theatre is community, and when he makes a new show about something he loves, he feels as though that’s what keeps his community together.

Last week we spoke to Dan of Star Wars Centralized (@Scentralized) who is a big fan of all of the novels and comics, we asked him if there was one Legends book that really changed his point of view of the movies. His answer was quick and simple - the novelization of Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover! In past interviews, Mike Chen, author of Brotherhood and Adam Christopher, author of Shadow of the Sith, both praised that novelization as well! So as part of our Vader month (which could turn into a Vader year) we decided to read the book and see what impact it had on us!

Even though it’s the novelization of Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It is also the middle book in a trilogy about the end of the republic and the eventual rise of Darth Vader. The books in order include; Labyrinth of Evil by James Luceno, Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover and The Rise of Lord Vader by James Luceno. The first two were released in 2005 with the final book releasing in 2008. But In 2014, all three books became part of the Legends Series, as Disney deemed it no longer canonical. Which is funny because one is an adaptation of a movie totally within canon.

Marvel Comics launched it’s reboot of the Star Wars comics in 2015 with two books - DARTH VADER and STAR WARS.

The stories followed the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Yavin and gave us never before stories of our heroes (and villains’). In Star Wars, we followed the rebels as they escaped the Empire and on the flip side (or the dark side) we follow Vader as he is punished by the Emperor for his failings to get the Death Star Plans back and the destruction of the Death Star as well as Vader’s own mission to discover the identity of the force user who destroyed it.

The first 12 issues are full of political intrigue, manipulation and a droid whose sole focus and delight is to torture and kill living beings. You know, all the things you’d expect in a Vader comic.

Matthew Freeman is a Brooklyn based playwright & stage director. His plays have been produced in theaters all across New York City and New England. He has been published by some of the biggest publishers of plays and monologues - including Samuel French, Applause, Smith & Kraus, and Playscripts. He is an alum of New Dramatists, was a MacDowell Colony fellow, and recipient of the Kesselring Prize for playwriting from the National Arts Club. (Insert Kessel Run joke here.) Pete Fletzer is a freelance writer who was best known for his work in the mid-90s for Lucasfilm and Topps’ Star Wars Galaxy and Star Wars Insider magazines. Discovered by Steve Sansweet, he wrote content about toys and collectibles, unique fan stories, and New York area Star Wars movie premiers. He was right in the thick of the Star Wars resurgence at the turn of the century, covering events like the Special Editions in 1997 and all three Prequel premieres. He authored almost 200 Star Wars questions for The Amazing Science Fiction & Horror Trivia Game. In the early 2000s, Pete stepped away from writing and disappeared from the public eye - other than issuing the occasional blog post.
